I bought this game specifically for PvP and WvW. I dislike grinding PvE content.
However, I stopped playing PvP fairly early, because there is only one game mode, and I don’t enjoy it very much.
Now, I primarily WvW – for which I unfortunately have to grind PvE content to stay effectively geared. I want to compete against other people, not dumb AI. Witness the increasing popularity of dueling in WvW.
I don’t think the PvP in this game will ever gain popularity without more game modes. I’ve seen this complaint echoed many times in-game.
Look at other online games for inspiration, and not just MMOs. And BTW – I would pay for good PvP add-ons/expansions. My suggestions:
- Search and Destroy (see Call of Duty 4+)
- War (see Call of Duty 3 and 5)
- Rush (see Battlefield 3)
- Variations on the above as mini-WvW maps (keeps/siege)
- Team Deathmatch
- Squad Deathmatch (e.g. 2v2v2v2)
- 1v1 Duels
Bonus points for “hardcore” modes where teammates are not immune from each other, i.e. friendly-fire is a concern. I think this makes for more tactical play (with some kind of system to limit griefing).
Also, (pretty please) full-on PvP servers – i.e. the entire PvE open world is PvP-enabled (maybe as WvW). Starting cities and Lion’s Arch could be safe zones, or city safety could just be enforced by mobs. Mega-bonus points for incorporating PvP into the normal PvE events. Check out DC Universe Online for some ideas – I enjoyed their PvP servers.
Anyway. Need variety.
Can someone please clarify? Here’s what I think you all might be saying:
a) If your feedback bubble intersects the path of a pull skill, then you are pulled to your feedback bubble?
b) And it doesn’t matter if you are the target of the pull or not – i.e. you would be pulled in addition to the actual target(s) of the pull?
c) Or is it that the pull is targeted at the feedback bubble itself?
Thanks for posting, I had no idea that it didn’t scale in sPvP. Did you happen to do any testing in WvW?
For context – my main is a level 80 mesmer, and I’ve done plenty of zerg events (e.g. Orr). Before the iBerserker nerf, I had no problem tagging mobs with the greatsword. It probably still works (albiet less effectively).
Basically for tagging, spam:
- Mirror Blade + immediate shatter
- iBerserker + immediate shatter
And if traited w/ Deceptive Evasion + Illusionary Persona, you can also rotate in:
- dodge INTO a mob cluster + immediate shatter
The above works best with a 20/20/0/0/30 trait spread, but it is workable with a wide range of builds, as long as you have power on most of your gear. My current gear is Soldiers armor, Rampager weapons, and a mix of Knights and Carrion trinkets.
Let me put it this way – on the Orr events which move across the map (e.g. opening temples), I barely had time to get all my loot before the NPCs moved on.
iBerserker and shatters are the only decent mesmer AoE damage, in the context of mob tagging in a zerg. But, since the last mesmer nerf, my iBerserker is only doing 33% to 50% of it’s previous damage. I really hope that is fixed.
I can confirm this as well. My iBerserker is consistently doing 1/3 of it’s pre-patch damage… ONE THIRD. My autoattack does more damage now – this damage nerf really makes the greatsword pointless.
Is this a known issue? I just started playing PvP, and throughout several matches a particular player kept getting under the map. He was able to capture/hold points without being seen or with any risk or way to counter. I could tell he was under the map, as a few times a particular camera angle would pop up his name on the side of a hill. And he was able to attack me from under the map while I was under water.
I wanted to report him, but there’s no option for abusing glitches or hacking, and no “write-in” option. I added him to my “friends” list for reference, as I’m eager to see this fixed.
Another player even wrote “such-and-such is still hacking” and quit the match.
