Hello everybody, just decided to type up what’s been on my mind, and this is related to the concept of content
I feel as though Anet doesn’t quite get what the playbase means when we say we want content. I would even say that they overthink it in many cases. new content is literally just new things for us to do. It does not have to revolve around some master story, or have some utlimate end goal, It is just stuff for us to do.
Heart of thorns is content, however, the content is very easily overshadowed by the “prize” or “end goal” of the content. This is what makes content not as fun, when it is more focused on finishing it than actually playing it. This is the core of what is wrong with masteries and elites specializations. They do not focus on the road to them and rather focus on the end of having them.
Content does not need to be the ultimate end all be all “greatest expansion of all timezomg” content can be simple as well as fun and easy to produce.
I’ll probably take a massive load of kitten from the community for saying this, but honestly I would look at a game like maplestory and the way it handles content. The content released there is very often simple, maybe just a new dungeon, or a new zone to explore, maybe with an attached armor set that you can get after a while, but it does not focus on anything but itself, and that is what makes it good(if you are a fan of the game). You can go explore the new zone or dungeon and take your time just enjoying it because in the end it’s just about experiencing the content. I wish that GW2 would release more “just for fun” content. It hurts nobody, you can do it if you want or you don’t have to, it’s just up to you.
Some people call this “filler” content, but honestly content is content. HoT was not designed to be filler content, and yet that is what it comes down to, and it’s bad because it’s mandatory filler. you pretty much have to buy HoT to experience a lot of things in GW2 now. I would just love if the crystal desert was opened up and there were new quests and places to explore and maybe a few new dungeons there, that is what would make that area great. But if this area was opened up and you were forced to go there to level up some new system so that you could stay relevent, that would ruin it. this kind of content is not hard to push out, and for the most part it appeases many of the cries for content.
Probably could have worded a lot of this better but it’s just some mind rambling I had.

I can assure you that I am pressing the button at the correct time and using the space bar. my glider will deploy, just about 3 seconds later than when i pressed.

Just as the title states. I cannot complete any part of heart of thorns that requires precise timing of my glider due to the fact that everything must register serverside, and by the time that happens i have hit the ground or completely missed my mark
notable places:
1. trying to find taimis holograms and getting to the one on top of the log, my glider will not open in time, have to have a mesmer port me, this is kittenty design, change it.
2. mordremoth: two issues here. one being that by the time that the server registers me going into one of the wind tunnel things when he does his whole area attack, my character has already done it and i am on the ground, and two, it only shoots you a little ways in the air so i wouldn’t be able to open my glider in time anyways.
Anet this is making me beyond furious. i currently have 400 ping to a european server from Afghanistan. I cannot upgrade my internet because that would require for people to lay faster lines outside of my base and nobody wants to get shot by the taliban so that i can play guild wars the way you want it to be played.
Accommodations must be made for people with slower connections, this is seriously kittening me off. At least make instanced zoned INSTANCED, why does me playing single player on a single player map need to be serverside anyways.

I think 3 is fine as is, too many flashy animations is bad, and the skill, while fine, doesn’t warrant a flashy animation. It applies vuln/gains LF, not something big like a massive hit, big field, or pull.
Tempest is the FABULOUS class, not necro. Tempest must waltz into battle and say "look at my skills, LOOK!!
while we don’t know exact numbers obviously…we can at least make educated guesses by comparing threads. say the number of people posting in this one on page 1:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Elite-Specializations-Hero-Point-Feedback-Merged/firstand the number of people that posted in this one buried on page 9:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Thanks-Anet/first#post5649042You cannot infer anything statistically relevant with that data.
First: The sample size is way to small
Second: The people on the forums are not a representative sample of the playerbase, because angry people are more likely to post on the forums than satisfied people
Third: Angry comments are more likely to spread on the internet. There is research about this:
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-is-everyone-on-the-internet-so-angry/
And a youtube video to explain it if you are not into reading scientific papers:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE3j_RHkqJc
Point number two is null and void because when anet implements good content and good changes, they receive waves upon waves of praise(look at corrosive poison cloud change for necro and more recently minion/pet pve changes)
anet is getting called on the BS and no amount of fanboy can cover it up

As many of you have seen, very many people right now are pretty kittened about the amount of HP required to unlock elite specs, and rightfully so. This is indeed an incredulous number that anet really just poofed into the game for no/terrible reasons and then tried to justify it.
The main focus of this is to the people who say “look at all these whiners that want everything unlocked on day one, play the game nerds” ect ect ect…
No, we do not want everything unlocked on day one. We want unlocking things to be fun, and involve actual content. the current system of masteries gating hero points gating elite specs is all about repetetive grinding, which is no fun
I think I speak for all of the angry people when I say that I don’t care if it’s not a day one unlock. I care about the means of unlocking. I think everybody can agree that elite specs would be much more enjoyable to unlock if instead of grinding HP, it unlocked as you progressed through the HoT story. I would MUCH rather unlock my elite through 30 hours of engaging story content that was interesting, than 20 hours of mind numbing, head bashing grinding.
We do not want day one unlocks, we want content, and fun ways of unlocking content.
Boy oh boy I’ve never seen so much cry babys. So what a lot of you saying is: We wanna play an MMO, we buy an MMO, but we don’t like this game to be so much MMO’ish… Maybe a lot of you forget that masteries are acount wide? So when you have them all unlocked you don’t have to do it anymore on other characters, never again… After that you may come back here to cry about how you all have nothing to do etc… Common guys, enjoy the game, or go play some other crap game like WOW… -.-
Okay, now here is my comment/rating:
10/10. There is no better MMO then GW2… Period…
(I’m not even starting on those sour people who wanted their elite spec on log-in).
Ouchy, you are really not brightest bulb in the room, aren’t you.
GEE DUB TUU BEST GAEM EVAR U HATERZ SUX
these are the people that need to stop riding anets kitten and actually look at the game from a critics point of view.
I give HoT a 2/10
on one hand, as a necro i love reaper
but putting myself through splitting headaches, hours of unnecessary boredom, and lots of unbridled rage due to how poorly designed and implemented hero points and mastery system are, is simply not worth it in the slightest
I honestly feel insulted by anet with all the BS they are making us put up with after we already gave them OUR MONEY.
Grind wars 2: Heart of grind
edit:
So as not to just complain without a solution, here is what I think
1.Mastery system gating: This should not be a thing, This is not horizontal progression at all. This mechanic specifically blocks content and in many cases utterly halts all progression until grinded to the correct level. And yes it is grinding
In case some genius at anet decides to think “Well FOTM is grinding, it’s the same thing, and you guys like that!” No, fractals are not grinding because you constantly progress in difficulty as you go on, and that keeps it refreshing. Grinding the same events on the HoT maps over and over and OVER is not fun in the slightest. It makes me want to pull my hair out. I don’t know what other people here play video games for, but I play for fun, and doing the same thing over and over in order to unlock CORE FEATURES is terrible. mastery needs be redesigned as not to gate core features
2. elite specializations: great, you did it anet, the elites are great, if only we could PLAY THEM. once again this CORE FEATURE is gated by massive amounts of grinding and gates by the mastery system. my solution, make hero points on the HOT maps worth 5 each and reduce the cost of specializations by half, this would make the work we do outside of the new maps less trivialized while still making playing on the new maps a good idea(instead of absolutely mandatory)
3. treat your players like kitten adults: I have made many decisions in my life, I am currently fighting a war in Afghanistan, I think that I am adult enough to make my own decision to skip content and unlock core features. The people on this forum who enjoy the content, good for you, keep playing it, but DO NOT force others to play it just because “you like it”. we are all adults(a few kids play i’m sure) and we are perfectly capable of making our own decisions, let us skip the kitten content.
(edited by Lilly Satou.1482)
Why do so many of you care about the people who “prepare” for HoT release. You are trying to make it seem like a sin that they want to have their elites right out of the gate. They paid for the new content, anet got their money, they should be considered adult enough to make the decision to skip content. If you don’t want to skip content then don’t skip it, but FORCING everybody to do it for their specs is completely unreasonable. We paid money, we don’t want to pay extra time, that is why we tried to prepare.
Dagger is best, GS is most fun & rewarding and no amount of range can save the Axe (and btw 12k crit on GC is not true.. its a channeled ability that a guy with no legs can Dodge)
Dodge is not this magical infinite thing you can spam 24/7. There are a lot of other things players will want to dodge. Replying to every single skill “they will dodge it” is a bit overreacting because players won’t have dodge for every skill someone has. Lets be realistic here. Often it’s also not 1v1 but x vs x where nr of dodges is static but nr of things you want to dodge out of increases.
ยด
Well I was being nice, to counter GC u dont even have to dodge at all u can just move abit… thats how bad it is
Well GC is a no travel time instant hit attack so you saying that being able to “move a bit” to dodge it is rediculous. You have to dodge to avoid it. It’s also got a very fast channel time which means that the burst is kind of an all or nothing. If your opponent is skilled they can dodge the whole thing, but if they are out of dodges or miss a tell, getting hit by all or most of it is pretty easy.
I do agree that axe needs work, but you’re kind of overexagerating
Because rev is a forced class and they took all of the interesting ideas to make other classes better and called it revenant.
What people fail to take into account is that while dagger may very well be used in high level gameplay, and might foreshadow other weapons for raids, this will happen to every class. I very much doubt that build diversity is going to be a thing for raids, certain classes will be shoehorned into certain roles.
However, greatsword(if not used as the choice weapon of raids) may very well find itself in a role that many people overlook and scoff at; casual play. Believe it or not this is actually a role that needs to be filled for players that are not looking for raids and rather prefer to putz around the world and do the occasional dungeon. Axe has already founds it’s role there, even though the meta may shift shortly.
It may not be the answer that my fellow reapers are looking for, but greatsword may just find it’s niche as something for casual play, since daggers may always be the superior pve choice.
So you want to change a trait that focuses on healing power and benifits all builds(while also residing in a trait line that focuses on healing power) to be changed to focus on conditions and only benefit one type of build.
Pass
I’m personally not going to be running reaper as I mainly wvw and spvp. I find the skills to be powerful, but they telegraph like crazy. Gravedigger is like “oh hey I’m floating now, better dodge away”. I’m also not too keen on giving up plague blast on death shroud. It’s the only reliable ranged damage a necro has.
Also on a side note, I don’t understand why reaper gets a GS. The whole feel they were going for was 1. Slower swings 2. Bigger damage 3. Chills. That sounds a whole lot more like the HAMMER to me. Hammer would have fit the role they are trying to fill with the current GS, while also giving us a weapon that isn’t already used on many classes. But i digress (especially before the "but muh legundery GS is spaaaaaaace)
All in all I think reaper is balanced, but I just won’t be using it and wanted to see if any other necros would be sticking with the old ds
