Hey. Just finished levelling my engineer and loving it for PvE and WvW. Thinking about taking it to PvP now.

What PvP options are available now that turrets no longer work? I’m thinking of rifle with grenade/toolkit/elixir S but have no idea about amulets/traits/sigils etc…

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hey. Just wondering what people recommend as the secondary sigilS when using D/P and SB in sPvP. I figure fire should be the first choice on both weapons, but do people use energy, battle or what as their second choice?

Sorry it took a while to reply, but I think it is worth rezzing this thread to answer.

As of the time or writing my previous post (following complete reinstall of the game) I was still crashing in WvW on virtually every skirmish. I started dabbling with the graphics settings at the start of the weekend, turning one down and then trying until a crash – rinse/repeat.

After a few crashes I now have the settings as seen in the attachment. I played all day Sunday in Edge and EB/Borderlands and have not crashed (yet – but I’m hopeful).

My specs are:
27-inch iMac, late 2012
3,2 GHz Intel Core i5
8GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB
OSX 10.9.4

Everyone runs PU because they can’t play mesmer without using a build that carries them.

I’m sorry, I meant it’s because “PU is what’s viable and because it’s the only way a mesmer can roam effectively”.

I’m currently experimenting with different builds and I’m not totally settled yet.

Hated mantras, and I tried condition in PvP last night and it was depressing watching the 7ft bikini wearing Norn lady regenerating as fast as I could hurt her.

That stew could work really well with a shatter build that I tried and enjoyed.

Currently jumping through the hoops provided by Anet support in an attempt to fix the crash to desktop from WvW (system basically crumbles on every encounter bigger than a gank squad skirmish in Eternal Battleground).

Got to the delete/uninstall game and reinstall stage and it has improved stability greatly. WvW still crashes after about an hour or so, but at least it is playable now.

Thought I would share. I’ll continue ‘jumping through hoops’ with support and post back if we ever manage to solve the problem.

PS: I’m on a late 2012 27-inch iMac

Just hit 400 in cooking (and thoroughly enjoyed levelling it – hours of addictive experimenting).

But how do go about figuring out the best food for your build? What foods do you prefer and what playstyle are you using it for?

I’m always a little sceptical when I read peoples’ reactions to patch notes. Basically no-one likes change and there is always an influx of people complaining – see the thief forums after the 3 button was ‘fixed’ on short bow (hmmm another 3 button fix… wonder if it is a thing). I didn’t think that ‘fix’ was anything to complain about…. but this sword fix is a mess.

I’d say 80% of the time you hit iLeap and no clone appears at all. Then the clone switch doesn’t work because of the recent ‘fix’. So basically the button is redundant.

Could you please now fix the fix? I don’t mind changing up my game to make sure I switch before the clone dies, but this is just not fair.

Even if you equip the Signet of Illusions and Inspiration V, your phants below Level 80 won’t be much more than cannon fodder. Especially when you are alone, they will die within seconds. So treat them like cannon fodder and use a mix of phants and clones. Eg. when you summon the iSwordsman swap to staff, summon a clone and the warlock and place the Chaos Storm, because the leap attack of the Swordsman is a finisher that will give him Chaos Armor.

And you spotted the other thing I’m worrying about at the moment…. half my button presses replace a phantasm with a clone. Good to know I don’t need to care about it until 80. ;O)

Thanks for the tips, but I have a ‘and what then?’ question. I’m just levelling a mesmer now. Having come from a thief background I thought swords were a good way to go (S/S S/P), but I’m having trouble keeping everything flowing.

If I’m maintaining/resummoning phantasms then I’m just stood there auto-attacking and dying.

If I’m dodging around to stay alive then I’m interrupting my own casting for all the good stuff like mantras and phantasms.

Alternatively I can drop back out of melee to get my illusions up again, but then I’m losing dps by not hitting anything.

Any tips?

The reason why we won’t leave beta is because of the level of support they want to give us. With the beta label they can pretend that a subpar level of support is justified (even though if it was a true beta they would be talking to us…the supposed testers way way more than they are). Yes, google perverted the term beta to mean “here is something with no support” rather than “here is an in development piece of software that we’ll be giving you regular status updates about and would like your help testing”.

On the button. I fully expect that the beta tag is there so they reserve the right to drop all Mac support in the future when it starts to be more trouble than it is worth. Call me cynical

1) Not crashing to desktop in WvW is by far my biggest wish. It is one of my favourite things about this game compared to other MMOs, and it sucks that I’m not allowed to do it.

2) Native client. Yup #2. I’m happy to sit in beta-wrapper-land if the game works. Native client may fix some things, but as long as I can play the game without crashing to desktop everytime things get interesting, I will be a happy shopper.

3) Continued communication and support. (I don’t remember ever seeing any patch notes with fixes – only new content).

And with that I have to log a complaint about the current support. I currently have a ticket which has been open for several days and it is just going backwards and forward because the support agents aren’t doing the very basic first response action of ‘READ THE TICKET’. Sersiously. I stated the problem. I stated my platform and that I’m using OS 10.9 So far I have been given advice for Windows, OS 10.7 and OS 10.8.

I seem to remember the previous support system was much better. It was a bother to have two logins, but at least they got things done with a pleasant demeanor.

So there we go. I’m not greedy. Just three wishes.

I don’t understand why anyone would (or even could) claim ownership or IPR on a particular build. It doesn’t make sense. I’m not going to pay royalties if I use it.

Sizer’s build == the build that Sizer plays at the moment. When thief gets patched and he changes to 3/5/2/0/4, that will be the build that Sizer plays. Sizer’s build.

Adding to the throng to keep this problem in mind.

Spent the entire day yesterday trying WvW and basically crashing everytime we got into an encounter. Very disheartening. Other fun encountered included crazy graphical corruption and occasional control screw ups (like auto-run sideways, buttons not responding or camera locked in one direction looking upwards from ankle height).

As the guy said “You have a beautiful game you designed… it’s a shame that it’s gotten so hard to enjoy it.”

Minor cosmetic comedy, but I find when I use a shadowstep skill while auto-running my character running animation freezes and I just glide across the landscape like some creepy moon-walking ghost.

Pressing any buttons after this fixes the issue, but sometimes I like to leave it and see how far I can glide before the character realises he should be running.

Thought I would share my experiences:

Gem store not working. No amount of restarts have helped with this and I am unable to buy gems.

Occasionally (and read ‘far too occasionally’ with this) the trading post stops working, therefore I can’t sell anything. Bags get full. Frustration ensues. Deleting the cache folder does not help. However if you exit the game and restart enough, eventually it seems to start working again… for a while.

Crazy spinning camera madness experienced, but it seems to be fixed by alt-tabbing out of the game and then back in.

Update this morning changes nothing. Furthermore if I exit the game and start it again, it re-downloads and installs the updates. Do they updates need to be run and installed as admin, perhaps?

Tech Support>Camera Swings Up Wildly

Any other mac users occasionally have the camera jump out of control so they end up suddenly looking at the sky?

Hey, does anyone else get this?

Game plays fine and I use free-cam to look around using the mouse and right button, but every now again the camera will just flick out of my control and I find myself suddenly staring at the sky. Only a minor inconvenience, but enough to make me wonder if anyone knows anything about it or if it can be fixed.

Not sure if it is a Mac only problem, happens to everyone or if it’s just my setup.

PS: I’m on an iMac with a Razer mouse.

Is this from a Macbook or similar using a Miniport to HDMI adapter? If so then it is not possible to get sound through the TV as miniport doesn’t support it to my knowledge. You would need to also run the sound out from the Macbook.

As far as I know, the official Apple answer to this problem is “use Airplay”.
