cramped locations like homes etc.

It doesn’t feel cramped or anything to me either (Sylvari and Human). I’m also a European, definitely used to smaller spaces than the average American I’m sure. I’ve also lived in a Japanese dorm and now THAT was the definition of cramped. And don’t get me started on the bathroom. But yeah. Divinity’s seems modeled on medieval Europe, so the size of the houses makes perfect sense to me. They look a lot like pre-1900s houses here (minus the fantasy elements ofc).

There is no “easy” way really. Fractals have a decent chance of dropping ascended, but that’s about it.

Legendaries are designed to be costly and time consuming/ short of buying one outright, there are very few shortcuts one can take

Oh I know that much, I’m almost done with Nevermore IV :‘) All that wood…… There’s a reason I wrote “least painful” instead of “easiest” haha. But thanks, I guess I’ll keep doing my fractal dailies until I catch up on all other parts and hope for the best.

@others seems fractals or outright crafting is the way to go… urks

So I need a ball of dark energy for my legendary, but I have no spare ascended armor or weapon to salvage. What’s the least painful method (in terms of money and time) of getting ascended equipment for salvaging?

(And sorry if this topic was addressed recently, the forum search tool doesn’t work for me and google only gave me old topics)

Edit: I know rings don’t drop BoDE, other trinkets have a low drop rate and that armor & weapons are 100%.

How about Trahearne's memorial?

in Living World

Posted by: Linnea.5146

Linnea.5146

I agree that having nothing at all really annoyed me. Even if I didn’t like Trahearne as much as I do, it would at least make SENSE to have more people than Taimi react to it (and Almorra…). I went to the Grove too and was disappointed to find absolutely nothing. Considering how much Riannoc was mourned, and Trahearne’s importance for cleansing Orr, it’s really strange to only hear about it from Taimi, who barely even knew him.

I’d like an option where we could choose to add memorials for the characters we want to honor in our home instance. That way everyone can choose for themselves, Eir, or Trahearne, or both. Or our mentor, as has been mentioned.

No thanks, i like Trahearne. He could have used some better lines, but i like him over all. Plus he never once stole the thunder of my character, for as long as i can remember(basically since the first time i finished the campaign) hes Deferred all the choice making to me, and gives me credit when i do things, unlike Kormir.

This. I started out as a Sylvari (which may influence my perception), but I never felt that he did a Kormir on me. I was always consulted, and the muscle of the operations. I like having a scholar character on the battlefield, it’s an interesting deviation from the usual battle-hardened gruff types.

Seriously, why do people think Kormir stole the show? Did you really expect to be turned into the next god of secrets? Would we all be more happy with the nightfall story if every player who has ever completed it would be the new god of secrets?

If I’m completely honest I never felt like I had the “show stolen” from me when playing GW:N either, but it did feel very weird story-wise since I kind of didn’t feel that she had done more than any other mortal to “deserve” divinity. I felt more that she didn’t really deserve it from a plot point of view, or as a result of bad writing. Which makes my previous post a poor choice of words I guess. My point still stands concerning Trahearne though, he feels much better integrated into the story than Kormir’s ascencion to godhood, since he forged the alliance and has the knowledge needed against Zhaitan, all while actively including the player.

I loved Cantha, but there are REAL social (and now economic) concerns here that will prevent it from happening. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that part of the “agreement” with being able to do a Chinese game included NOT doing any Canthan content (that is potentially offensive to some oriental cultures).

Not gonna happen (and I’m not happy to say that at all).

Agreement with whom?

I have a hard time believing Anet would give up Cantha in exchange for release in China. If anything a good representation of east asian culture would make Cantha very attractive to Chinese players, in the same way that I as a Swede enjoy Norns, despite not drinking alcohol.

I often create groups on LFG with newcomers welcome in the party advertisement. I find it so much more rewarding when you complete a fractal run with 0 deaths with a party full of newbies knowing that your leadership and communication skills have got you through it.

This. I always start the group myself and make it very clear that I’m not a seasoned player, and that other less experienced players are welcome too. I haven’t had any trouble with elitists so far. As for pvp, after my rather traumatizing experience in RA in GW1 I’ve decided to stay away from it. I just don’t need constant name-calling.

Llamas in real life aren’t a very agressive creature, unlike most of the ranger pets that could probably do some damage or kill something in real life. Llamas are herbivores with nothing sharp on their body… so maybe it could work as some sort of boon-monkey support pet?

I’ve been to Peru, and I never once met a violent Llama in the Andes.

But they CAN spit at you and their spit is yucky and smelly.

Otherwise llamas are adorable.

Which is more fun, elementalist or mesmer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Linnea.5146

Linnea.5146

I love them both for their differences. My dual dagger ele is a lot of fun because it’s fast-paced, dangerous (melee light armor with relatively low health) and having four elements at your command is plain cool. Solo might stacking is really useful, and traiting gives you quite a few options for your individual playstyle. Staff is a bit boring, but it’s useful in groups and zergs.

My mesmer is fun for the manipulation options that the class has, such as feedback, portals, clones, condition/boon transfer etc., and it just feels like a stylish class overall. I love popping a feedback at the right moment on sniper type NPCs. It’s just too bad that the game rarely needs all the finesses a mesmer has to offer, often a high enough dps does at least an equally good job.

Both classes can be tricky, and it took be a bit of time to find the perfect weapon set for me. Youtube is your friend here!

Maybe even tie it in lore-wise, such as adding a dungeon in the (probably) upcoming maguuma jungle content where you can get armor resembling the old asuran sets.

Block all but guildies & friends suggestion

I’m always amazed at the amount of people who think “gay means bad” is somehow not homophobic. Trying using the word “Jewish” to mean greedy or tight-fisted, and see how much support you get. (Illustrative example: ‘Stop being so Jewish, lend me some money.’) It’s exactly the same thing.

However, for the purposes of the OP, I feel like Block and Report should be sufficient.

So when hipsters go “I’m such a nerd”, or that’s so nerdy do we get insulted about a changing word meaning? Gay to begin with never meant homosexual, it meant jolly. Now it’s changing again to mean bad but at the same time losing its meaning as homosexual. Language is a hard thing to explain. You can’t go around being this sensitive though.

It doesn’t matter if someone is a little kid or pitiful in real life. It doesn’t matter that “words shouldn’t hurt you”. It doesn’t matter that “the interwebs are cruel”

The fact is, words DO hurt. And we’re only human. We have bad days. We feel pain—even when somebody doesn’t mean harm.
Maybe this is “the interwebs”, but behind the screen are real people. And real people can’t always choose whether or not they hurt.

Instead of teaching people “Don’t let words hurt you”, we should teach people “Don’t say words that hurt”

There has been a campaign recently to ban the word “bossy”. You can not force people to never use bad words. I don’t even think that this should be taught, because we will end up in a very two faced community, where we’re all polite, but secretly carrying knives behind our backs.

I think that’s not necessarily true. There are ways to express your discontent without being offensive about it and using derogatory words. Not using offensive words doesn’t mean not using words at all. What everyone should learn is how to express your opinion in a way that respects other people, and that if you can’t do that you should just say… Nothing. There’s absolutely nothing to be gained by hurting others in any way. Not saying that I advocate banning words though, not at all. People should just learn to behave and need to be aware that words can hurt. A lot. Anyone who has been rejected by his or her crush knows that!

Anyway, there’s a bunch of people in that chat that I hope were reported. “No homos” is clearly offensive (whereas “stay close to my donkey” is immature at most). I’ve never seen a chat like that on my server though (Piken), it seems that you ended up in a bad place there. My sympathies.

So now that we've seen all the blog posts...

This feature update is actually why I started playing GW2 again. Well, and I finally remembered my password, but that’s a whole other story. :P
As for content, I’m sure there will be more content soon.
Also, ZudetGambeous, ESO is terrible. It may have plenty of new content, but it’s a less-than-subpar experience.
WildStar and ESO are both P2P. Believe it or not, you can play both games if you want, without breaking the bank!
I play EVE and GW2, myself. I know, unimaginable is it not?

Edit: Can’t believe Isn’t…. It is censored on this forum.

You may think that, but the plummeting GW2 population tells a different story.

Are you trolling, or do you know how the population is plummeting in someway all the other players don’t? Anecdotal evidence won’t cut it. So yes, you ARE trolling.

Don’t waste your time slinging mud at a game you don’t like (perhaps anymore), just enjoy yourself elsewhere. Life’s too short (unless you are on a “play the game I am playing now!” crusade, but that’s not allowed in the forums as far as I know; General GW2 discussion.)

Population plummeting might not be the right wording for it. I don’t think people are quiting GW2, but I do think they are just stacking on 1 server, like Blackgate and Desolation

I get the feeling that this is closer to the truth. Desolation and Blackgate are so insanely popular that it’s a guesting race to their servers when it’s time for a challenging event (I’m thinking of when the wurm was introduced, that’s where I experienced it personally). During LS events it was really packed on my server though, I almost always ended up in overflows!

The biggest plus point about the megaserver system, in my opinion, is that it is flexible and helps counter fluctuations that inevitably happen over the course of the day and the week. Events work nicely on weekends, especially evenings, on my server (Piken Square), but it’s pretty dead during the week or earlier hours.

Back on topic, I think that this feature pack could make the game a lot better, but I have to see it in action before I judge. I still don’t like the spread-thin fixed schedule and the contested waypoint system though. As for permanent content, I’m sure we’ll get that in the form of new areas and a new dragon with the next living story chapter. I’m glad they’re at least trying to fix the game before adding new, major stuff.

DougTheSlug.3920, page 4, bottom post, partial quote

I can brainstorm until the cows come home, but it feels like there could have been much more graceful solutions to this.
Here is one such idea brainstormed: WvW already detects low population and gives you a status indicating this. Why can’t PvE zones detect this same condition and simply give you a popup saying “move me to a more populated server for this zone” that uses your friends/guild algorithm but doesn’t use a guest credit? This has the following benefits:
- Maintains server identities
- Maintains ability to guest to specific servers for specific reasons
- Utilizes portions of your existing solution that are good (algorithm for finding a more populated server)
- Maintains current boss timers that allow for variety
- Maintains ability to create overflows for content that clearly should be instanced (teq/wurm)

That, for the metaserver itself and the populations, would solve any issue about “I want to play alone” versus “I want to Roleplay” versus “I want to play with many”, as every player could decide for himself, if he wants to join in on the metaserver or not and it would still maintain the “serverpride” and keep the communities that have grown on this servers together.

(snipped a bit)

I like these ideas a lot. Maybe have those three options to choose between when going to an area, or add the preset in options (so you can set it to “alone”, “many”, “roleplay” or “always ask”).

Expanding on that, maybe add a toggle on the bottom or the top of the map that lets you choose between these three modes and through that lets you see which waypoints are contested and which dungeons are open by getting information from the servers you’d land on. This would require at least three megaservers being open at any time, but I don’t know how many usually will be in reality anyway.

Linnea.5146

There are things that I like and things that I dislike about this update.

I like that I’m going to find more people for events. I don’t want to guest if I don’t have to. Running around on my often depopulated server and seeing lots of dead events has long been something that irritated me.

However… I don’t like what you’re doing with waypoints. The whole point of them is that you should be able to travel quickly and easily between different places. Making all waypoints contested is not a good solution at all. It feels like the easiest way out for the programmers and makes the players pay the price, both in number of loading screens and in silver. The same goes for the temples and dungeons. It’s important to many players to know what is active and accessible, and what isn’t. That’s why timers are so popular! I’d rather see a lot less, or even no contestable waypoints at all, or that WP travel within a zone is free, like in the main cities. I’m no programmer, however, so I don’t know how the temple problem could be solved.

Also, while I like that there’s a schedule, I don’t like that it’s so limited and spread out. A lot of players, especially those who work or live in other timezones, will not be able to do a lot of these events. At the very least, make more events happen simultaneously, or have a rotating schedule. Like a lot of other posters have mentioned, it would make more sense to have all three big baddies activate in all red slots. Right now, especially the “hardcore bosses”, are limited to prime-time players in the right timezone, players without jobs and families and players in big guilds that can kick the event off at any time, and that is a very small group, especially for a game that carters to casual players in a lot of different time zones. For too many, this loose schedule means one shot a day at a fraction of the bosses.

Stat Combos

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Linnea.5146

Some stat combos with 4 stats distributed instead of 3
Note: total stat count should still be equal to 3-stat combos.

This benefits professions that rely on more stats the most, like the elementalist or the guardian, who generally want to have healing power or vitality in addition to their other specializations. This is especially important when moving those combos to pvp’s amulets, and even more so now that jewels are being removed.

  • (Main) Power – (very minor) Toughness, Vitality, Healing Power;
  • (Main) Power – (very minor) Precision, Toughness, Healing Power;
  • (Main) Power – (very minor) Precision, Toughness, Vitality;

More stat combos that enhance support or control builds
Note: unfortunately, there are not many stats that support those roles…

  • (Main) Healing Power – (Minor) Boon Duration, Toughness;
  • (Main) Healing Power – (Minor) Boon Duration, Precision;
  • (Main) Boon Duration – (Minor) Any;
  • (Main) Condition Duration – (Minor) Any;

As someone with an elementalist as the main, I really like this!

Compared to last year with SAB, this years prank is quite pathetic perhaps even lazy.

There’s no need for you to insult others because they find a one-day april fool’s joke amusing, just because you didn’t like it. The more things you can find to laugh about in life, the more fun you’ll have. Nothing wrong with that.

Also, if they had spent more time on a one-day event like this, imagine the kittenstorm! “You should fix the game instead!” “Give us new permanent content instead!” is what I imagine would be the response. Also, I never thought that the SAB was an april fool’s joke, I can’t remember it being marketed as such.

So if you don’t like this, log out today, come back tomorrow instead, let the “simple-minded” have their fun for today and don’t go to the forums and insult people with other tastes.

Holy Trinity and Compromise

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t understand either why people come to GW2 of all games to say that they want trinity. It’s one of the few games that clearly stated from the very beginning that it won’t have the trinity. That’s one of the major reasons I bought it. I don’t want trinity, whenever I feel like having some of that I play some Tera. I come back pretty quickly though, because I like to be self-sufficient.

If the one-sidedness of the dominance of the DPS builds is the problem, then the solution isn’t going back to the healer-tank-dps trinity, but making cc, support and conditions viable instead. We should aim at making this game one where you can run a great variety of setups.

As for LFG getting emptier, I did a dungeon last Saturday, and my party was full within the minute.

Trench coats technically the only option?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There are already several medium armor sets that use belly shirts on the ladies (the infamous underboob that all female human thieves use.) And there are tons that aren’t trench coats.

My ranger looks like a centurion.

I’m never going to give my female human thief that underboob armor. Never. I always feel the urge to pull that shirt down when I see it. xD

I still think that there’s not enough variation for thieves if you want an assassin-ish look, especially if you don’t want to show off your skin. The majority of medium armors feels more fitting for engineers or rangers. I might be wrong about the ratio, I’ve admittedly never counted, but I’ve had a hard time finding a nice, slimmed down armor for my thief.

Edit: Evans, what is that armor? Can’t recall seeing it anywhere o.o I assume it’s a mix?

I agree that this system is terrible, it feels downright unworthy of GW. It’s not connected to any effort at all, nor is it rewarding in any way. This is why I have decided to wait until they make precursors craftable, as they have announced, even if that takes a long time for them to implement. Meanwhile I’m just going to enjoy the rest of the game. (I’m also waiting for new legendaries, I’d hate to make Bolt only to see a cooler set of legendaries come out the day after xD)

Edit: It’s not about “getting” one just for playing long enough for me either, I’d just rather see a system where you can effectively work towards the precursor. I think that the point of “I have played x hours” is that the drop rate is just plain ridiculous, not that anyone is entitled to getting one at a certain hour mark (that could just be achieved by afking all day long, that’s not effort either).

However, if we add everything up, the bug fixes for the professions (hooray for phantasm fixes!), the drastic sigil changes, the new traits, the wardrobe function, the ascended and legendary stuff and wvw exp becoming account-bound, guild login, removed repair costs, and then the four blogs we have left, we get a more polished game that is just overall more enjoying and streamlined. Then, when that’s done, we can get new areas and stuff. I prefer it this way, I’d rather enjoy new maps and dungeons after they fix all these things that prevent me from enjoying the game to the fullest.

I admit that I have no idea how other MMOs work, but then again, this is what I expect from GW2, for better or worse. I’m just happy to have a good MMO to play without monthly fees.

Edit: About them releasing one blog post per day, I think it’s partially for the feedback. The way they do it now makes people focus on one part at a time (see feedback threads). Had they just splurged it all out in one go people would have been overwhelmed, and one or two topics would have stolen the spotlight.

Would you even WANT a new class/race?

Wouldn’t it be easier to solve your problem by making (ascended) armor account-bound?

This blog is a bit weird. The last login date seems like such a simple (needed, yes, but simple) thing that they could have added it to any LS update. I get the feeling that there’s a lot of small stuff behind this blog post and they decided to make us read it in the patch notes instead.

I’d love for them to add some more information on the anti-griefing mechanics though.

In my opinion, the real issue is that there’s so little variation for each armor class (the old trenchcoat discussion). I’d much rather see the time invested in making a variety of new armors. I’m not against eles wearing heavier-looking armor, the HotW light dungeon armor goes in that direction and I love it, or warriors wearing more slimmed down armor. I’d just rather have more armor. A lot more.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s something as big as new weapon sets. I think it’s more something along the lines of fixing account-/ soulbound issues.

But surely that would come under ‘Account Bound’?

Hmm, true. Still, the posts are released the same day, so I somehow feel that it’s related. Then again, my guess for “Art of Combat” was completely off (that turned out to be sigils). xD
