The matchup is in favor of the Ele. You have a projectile block on a low cooldown and multiple ways to close the gap. You outsustain them in melee combat.
In my experience that skill is almost useless as a projectile block. Am I doing it wrong or what?

Best way to combat a ranger is to use your CC and keep the pressure on them. get them low and they focus on sustain instead of damage.
The adrenaline nerf is not going to be huge. Longbow is fastest adrenaline generator and doesnt need a target to clear 3 conditions, theres just going to be a lot more lb camping (on a 5 second weaponswap i might add).
You dont lose adrenaline unless you leave combat, and earthshaker is pretty hard to miss as it is. The only thing it affects is eviscerate.

ES is really easy to land, because people don’t know any better.If you are argueing that you can land a reliable ES when its a X v 1
Yes, any class can be downed when they are fighting X v 1
This nerf to adrenaline is going to effect every spamtastic warrior who didn’t bother to learn the profession thoroughly, and by thoroughly i mean learning to bait dodges, cooldowns, etc.
They are getting nerfs and buffs next patch, and really if you are playing a thief. You have the most rewarding braindead spec in the game right now and its only going to get worse next patch because you can evade and stealth at a whim.
Have you played a theif? its extremely difficult – you get stunned once and your dead. Anyone using s/d spamming 3 is an idiot as your technique is obvious and a well timed stun/knockback means your toast.

earthshaker is hard to miss? unless u r in hotjoin, or whatever, i barely ever see a war hitting eartshaker
i personally always manage dodging earthshaker, it has a too obvious animation and long cast
they nerfed zerker stance to regen only 3 bars adrenaline, they use adrenaline up on burst skills now(thats so awesome, no more mindless usage of burst skill)(its a huge nerf either)
anyway wait out balance patch, i am pretty sure wars arent gonna be much of a deal anymore, in fact, i am pretty sure there r gonna be qq posts about warriros not managing to hit their burst skills and loosing adrenaline
This topic was mostly in relation to PVP when im talking about hammer+bow – it’s not really used outside of PVP. ES is extremely easy to hit a target at mid, as a thief i’m in and out bursting down targets, usually one side has close, the other has far, then mid is the skirmish. In other words its a hambows wet dream.
Stances are utility skills, so there function doesn’t bother me at all.
Healing signet does bother me though. Healing just by standing there and looking ugly.
The stances bother me, how many other professions can have 10 seconds of total immunity to conditions and direct damage while stealing dishing out lots of damage?
Any other class that has immunity to damage cannot have capture point contribution, but warrior can do just that with endure pain+berserker stance. (ele mist form, engi elixir S, thief stealth, mesmer stealth) to name a few

Ok so normally I rage hard in game but today i felt like doing it on the forums.
Before anyone accuses me of being kitten I do have a warrior, thief, ele, necro and engi. I enjoy playing thief as its the most challenging and unforgiving, warrior is no fun when you faceroll everyone.
Warrior is the most OP class in this game and needs nerfing hard.
I know its arenanet’s lovechild and that its supposed to be the go to class for new starters but its just ridiculous at this current stage.
- Healing signet is OP (especially with extra regen from that adrenaline trait) – nerf this so its like ele signet when you heal on attacking only.
- Endure pain+berserker stance (especially when traited for longer stances) ridiculously OP – nerf to 3 seconds maximum immunity per stance
- Hammer has far too much damage+CC give it one or the other not both.
- Why does longbow have such a large AOE burn ring? reduce it
- Mobility is ridiculous: Bulls charge, GS 5, GS 3, Sword 2 and near enough perma swiftness from signet of rage+horn. Do to GS 5 what you did to Rtl, double cast time if it doesnt hit a target
- increase cd on burst skills, its just broken at the moment.
for runes I would go parrot + bloodlust/force/battle

also would nades be better than mobs if I LOS mobs for hearts and stuff?
Hi all
So i’ve decided to go for my 3rd legendary and I need another gift of exploration, I’ve decided i’d use engi to do 100% because of the mobility on engi (100% on warrior already, and thief/ele is too squishy).
Can anyone suggest a build for this? Basically I want to speed complete all the hearts and skillpoints poi and vista in a zone and move onto the next one.
I was thinking for utilities: rocket boots , nade kit elixir gun (for mobility and dps+ speedy kits)

I will be playing wvw roaming with dd+sb. Probably be either solo/duo/trio mostly solo i would imagine.
think i’ll try full zerk with 2 cavalier accessories+knights ring and see how i like it.
edit: i’ve tried full glass cannon 6 6 2 0 0 and i didn’t like it. Its very good for team fights when i get in burst and get out, but no sustain and no condi cleanse is a nightmare

So i’ve just levelled my second thief to 80 (female human t3 ^^) and was about to gear her out in full valkyrie again (same as my other thief) when a guildie told me not to.
Apparently valkryie armour, with zerk wep+trinkets is ‘outdated’ and I should be going full glass?
I will keep the 2/6/6/0/0 setup regardless of what armour i have for executioner+shadows rejuvination.
Any suggestions? should i go valk armour again or is berserker the best option now that i’m an experienced theif?
edit: forgot to mention i’ll be running d/d and sb

so you’ve come to the conclusion that theif is bad after playing it for 30 mins?
Yes there are other classes that are better for cleaving, d/d thief is extremely fun and requires a high level of skill to play it well. I don;t think you can master it in 30 mins.
A good thief can beat a good warrior quite easily, with careful timing of cnd for damage spike+blind. plus you have warriors stolen ability, lots and lots of stealth = blind, condi clense, and regen.
D/D thief isnt designed for a prolonged fight, its all about burst damage.
about sword, most dont use cause sword 3 is unreliable as hell and sword auto atk… well u r too squishy to actually try and meele ur enemy
staff offers great survivablity by chaos armour, phace retreat , chaos storm
about save stomps, u can stealth stomp , portal stomp, phace retreat+ blink stomp, f4 shatter stomp , chaos storm stomp (hope ur enemy gets blind or u get aegis on chaos storm)
totally forgot about distortion! its the only shatter i never use :P Distortion also gives me immunity to cc while its active?
So i play a fair bit of solo pvp these days, swapping between theif mesmer and ele when i get bored.
Im really enjoying mesmer at the moment and I’m running a shatter gs+staff build. My question is which is better for pvp/roaming? GS+staff or gs+sw/p?
I think sword/pistol because of the damage on sword 2, pistol 4 and the interrupt on pistol 5. Wheras on staff you only get chaos armour, an interrupt field (no good for roaming) and an illusionary warlock which you’re probably going to lose by the time you’ve dodged anyway.
I’ve tried both and im used to staff so thought that was better, but I’m willing to try it again and hopefully get a hang of it.
Also another question: how the hell do you survive while your stomping someone? I’ll pop a decoy then try to stomp and knowing my luck i’ll still get cced or melt by downstate auto attack. (im running zerk shatter)
I don’t like the idea of a condi thief, so i’m prepared to remain a burst dps thief. I have started using a new build today 6/6/0/0/2 with revealed training on d/p+sb. sb #2 hits for 3.5-5k per big explosion and i’m averaging 7-9k backstabs with half knights/half zerk gear (berserk trinkets+weps).
It makes use of revealed training = pistol 5 > dagger 2 = stealth, now use your venom if you’re running it to stun on hit, now quickly precast backstab (dagger 1) and steal from your target. Being traited with mug, it reveals you on steal, but you can still land the backstab and get the 200+ power for the backstab from revealed training.
So typically for me with the gear i just mentioned its a 1.5-2k mug, followed by a 7-9k backstab, then a couple auto attacks or heart seeker if i’m feeling lazy. If they get away, rinse and repeat (no steal this time, just pistol 5 then dagger 2, either shadowstep or infiltrators signet to them and backstab again, if you’re low on ini and thye’ve pulled a gap on you use dagger 3 to shadowstep to them and do a little damage then spam your autoattack, or alternatively swap to sb and attack from range while they run.
Yes the initative drain is noticable, but keep playing the build and you’ll learn to manage it effectively (no kittened heartseeking just for the sake of it, and using the same smoke field a couple times to stay stealthed and position yourself better). Also try not to use infiltrators signet unless you really need to, that extra initaive every 10 second can be the difference between a stealth or death.
why would you use anything other then thieves guild for pve? I can understand daggerstorm has its uses in the harpy fractal but 99% of the time thieves guild would be your go to elite for pve
So what armour + runes/orbs do you use for wvw? full zerk?
