Now I must chose a side, and never be able to play with my transatlantic friends ever again unless I shell out money.
Well this seems to be the crux of the problem. $$££$$. That is all I can see that benefits from this. Cah-ching a money making alteration. Of course you have a “choice” not to pay to swap servers to play with your mates but then your missing out on your friends companionship and wellll “Cah-ching” had to be done to team up with your mates.
This is a no brainer. The Only benefit is to Anet pockets. Spin money spin.
Unfortunately, allowing “neutral” players in WvW would allow for spying which is IMHO not a great idea.
I dont understand that. How can you “spy” on a zerg? Like I mentioned they would have no impact on the map strategically or otherwise. They would not even be able to see the status of buildings or supplies. Reporting on locations of (eg) catapults in this manner would be the same as a player in combat mode doing the same. It would be impractical to send a player in as neutral to do a job that a combat player can do just as well. It would be like slicing off your nose to spite your face.
Besides “spying” happens all the time regardless. Theres plenty of players in WvW that dual logs with two accounts to do this. I suppose that this is one problem anet hopes to solve with the guesting system and charging a gem fee to swap servers. Folks wont want to dish out cash to transfer servers every week.
This guesting system seems a bit naff to me.
First of all, no guesting between EU and NA… Why? Does it not make sense to keep the community together instead of essentially splitting it in two?
Ok I get why you cannot WvW while guesting… It defeats the whole object of WvW. Which is why I still say that entering WvW as a neutral player (cannot attack or be attacked by other players and have no effect on the map strategically) should be implemented for the PvE aspect of it (Been their done that, jumping puzzles, pet collecting). It was a huge mistake to include these PvE aspects in WvW which is PvP but we have to live with it. Guesting does not solve this problem one bit and in fact, makes it worse. So when anet implements this then they also need to implement the neutral status I mentioned to balance this out. It is impractical otherwise.

It is a nice idea, but what’s stopping you from putting your invisible bag last?
indeed I always put this last. It’s just common sense.
Good ideas generally, although I{ cant see alliances working as you can already join multiple guilds. I like the idea of customizing a guild town. Maybe each player gets a house to personalize too. Display achievements, weapons and armour sets too. A bit like a mini HoM.
Just wondering the feasibility to have a new set of vending skills that allow you to do things like repair armour for folks or sell items without having to go through black lion. Just a thought.
Ok how about:
6) customizing the weapon skill bar. A minor issue I find sometimes are the skills are not where I would like them. For example I would get used to one weapon set then swap to another. Now call me old fashioned but I’d like the skills I use most to be on the same keys as the other weapons but they are not. Result: I sometimes accidently activate skills in the wrong order purely because I’m used to another weapon skill set. Very annoying lol
7)Targetting is awful lately. I tend to tryand target the foe that is nearest to me and directly infront of me and for the most part it’s not a problem. However every now and then this doesn’t happen and I end up targetting some obscure foe that is not near me, not in front of me, hell, not even in my line of sight or even in the general vicinity. How this happens is beyond me. The targeting system seems a little bit screwed up and needs sorting out. My style of play is to hit the number keys to initiate attack because clicking on a foe does not work half the time so I have to rely on the targeting system. I have even noticed that from time to time my target will switch without my doing so, which I cannot work out why. If the foe were shadowstepping/teleporting/cloaking I would understand but it happens at random intervals with any foe.
8) Aggro ring. Pleaseplease PLEASE reintroduce this as it was soooooo helpful in GW1. No I don’t want to remake this game into GW1 but there are some features in GW1 that would work here and make sense to have.
9) While in a city like LA do not have an inactivity timeout. Simple reason: Waiting to get into WvW can take a few hours sometimes and you can easily time out during the wait thus losing your place in the queue. Out in the sticks there is a need for the timeout option, but not in citys.
10) An elite for elementalists that they can use under water. Yes I am shocked that Elementals cannot have an elite skill underwater. Why the hell is this?
I’ll add more as I think of them.
/facepalm
And maybe instead of reading, I’ll just keep moving my bookmark ahead a few pages every night until it gets to the end.
Well said lol.

I don’t like gem store skins being soul bound to one charactor. Cosmetic gem store skins should be account bound with the ability to copy them. And send those copies to our alts through mail.
I hear what your saying and generally I’d agree with you because costumes bought in GW1 WERE account wide.
However it’s different here mainly because of the 5 race system. 1 outfit could be used on all 5 races and have completely different looks. Now if they were “heritage bound” maybe……
Why would you -buy- Glory boosts when the PvP Daily achievements give them? Furthermore, why would you use them in WvW when you don’t gain Glory there?
I’m not particularly big on GW2’s PvP system myself, but I still like the change of pace now and then. Individual tastes are true, but passing it off as a marketing scheme just because it’s getting you to move outside of the box now and then is a bit coarse.
This game is built around variety. Trait builds. Weapon sets. Profession/Racial skills. The entire plethora of potential activities. The encouragement is to continue on that trend. To tell players not that they’re doing wrong, but that it’s worth trying other things even when you’re content, because you may be pleasantly surprised when you stumble across something that works better for you than your last attempt.
Not to mention… WvW isn’t -that- hard to complete. Time consuming, yeah, but if you really don’t want to participate, the big fight locations aren’t too difficult to predict – and a decent amount of the “OMG SUDDENLY I GOT 12v1’d” happenings are an actual attack force going from A to B. Inevitable if alone, due to the game time, but the maps are big enough that you’ll probably get past them on take two.
No, you won’t be able to 100% all four maps overnight, but all that means is you either need patience, or maybe the desire to open up /t or /m and see where you can help out most. Even if it is just following a Commander to zerg around for a little while.
Sorry I probably didn’t make my point all that clear. The idea to “encourage” players in WvW is to try to get them into PvP and therefore play PvP maps where they WILL want to by glory boosts as the daily freebee only lasts 1 hour.
Your point for using chat to help would be valid IF PvP’ers gave a rats kitten Believe me I have tried and when I DO get an answer, for the most part (though not always I have to say) it’s unhelpful and/or insulting. Generally PvP players take a dim view of PvE players on the map trying to achieve PvE achievements. And who can blame them. PvE players generally don’t contribute when trying to map or do jumping puzzles. It nothing to do with them.
Oh and for “getting me to move outside the box”???? Yeah ok I like the box, I don’t want to move outside it and I DON’T want to be MADE to do it as you say…. I never asked for that. I am quite happy as well as many many others with the PvE side of things because it’s just a lot more interresting and we do not need to stroke our egos.
Don’t get me wrong I do like variety and I at least RESPECT others who have their own preference who doesn’t force it onto me. Bottom line is this. It’s a bad move to mix PvE with PvP.

1. 2. I… can’t really agree with this, though. They’re trying to integrate them so that players try and learn both. In my experience, most players can be treated a lot like cats, where the Commander icon is a laser pointer. So as long as they have a general direction they’re contributing. And if they’re trying for completion? Maybe they’ll ask for help to avoid being ganked.
It’s making PvE players do PvP. They dont do PvP for a reason. They don’t like PvP. Making them do PvP to achieve a PvE achievement is insulting. Imagine if you were made to do something you didn’t like… to be…. encouraged? Would you not have something to say on the matter? I have many friends who either love PvE or love PvP or both, and they all cannot understand why anet would do this. Ultimately it’s also bad for PvP’ers in WvW too. Places are being taken up by players trying to do Been there done that or the jumping puzzles and not contributing to the PvP side of things. It’s damaging for both PvP and PvE.
It doesn’t’ say PVE world completion.. it says world completion.
Thats just nitpicking. mapping is 100% PvE. Oh and if your REEEEAAAALLLY want to nit pick?…. WvW is in the mists not in the world.
My map just says “World Completion” not “PVE World Completion.”
Essentially, this. It’s to encourage you to at least -try- all aspects of the game. To give PvE players a reason to be in WvW, so that it doesn’t become a competition of what server has the most PvPers.
To encourage is to imply players are sheep. Everyone has their preference. PvE’ers dont do PvP for a reason. They would very much appreciate it if anet didn’t “encourage” them. WvW is very badly thought out for PvE. At the end of the day it’s to try to get as many people to buy glory boosts as possible. It is a marketing scam that targets PvE’ers. Contrary to corperate thinking, players are individuals with singular taste and preference, not sheep to be spoon fed a product they do not want, need or desire.
+1 to this suggestion. World mapping is pure PvE and WvW is NOT PvE no matter how anet wants to argue about it. I have also made a few suggestions on this topic.
Ok I just started on the forums so I am not up to speed on any discussions, however I have a few ideas I would like to voice and this is the only place I think anyone from anet will see them as they seem to be a secluded shy bunch.
1) Make storylines repeatable. Once you complete the main storyline an option should become available. Access to any part of the storyline would be a simple click in the personal story list in the hero window. This way you can experience all aspects of storylines and would make the game more memorable. Of course after you initially complete the storyline the rewards should be reduced to prevent farming because as we all know anet frowns upon such activities.
2) Keep PvP and PvE at arms length. Well what can I say, WvW is 99% PvP. All PvE content is thrown in as an afterthought to tempt PvE’ers into doing PvP. Shock and horror though, it seems PvP isn’t the be all and end all. Shame anet doesn’t see it that way. What they have done is integrate a PvE activity (Been there Done that) into WvW. Why? To make PvE players do PvP. If this was to be a fair system then either remove the WvW maps from Been there Done that achievement or have an option to be neutral when entering the map. There is nothing worse than being prevented from enjoying the game and doing your tasks by a zerg (you need to play starcraft to understand). Mindless morons who roam the map in groups of 100+ getting ego strokes from pouncing on lone players who pose no threat only trying to do a PvE activity that has absolutely nothing to do with those drones.
3) Mail system. The mail system is pretty good, however, there is one slight problem with it. It only allows you send 5 items at a time. This becomes problematic for armour crafters. Armour sets for the most part consist of 6 pieces. If you wish to craft a set for (eg) a guild member then you have to send 2 mails. So whats the problem you ask? Well it seems that the anti spamming system is a bit twitchy to say the least. Very often you will find you have to wait a random amount of time to post the second mail because the system thinks your doing it “excessively”. Ok so either fix the antispam system or remove it (bad idea to remove it). Or allow mail to send 6 items at a time to accomodate armour sets. Personally I would like to see 10 slots there but I dont think anet would go for that as it would be a bit excessive in their eyes. 6 would be good enough though.
4) Follow player. In GW1 you were able to follow a player by double clicking them and they could lead you to a mutual destination. This feature isn’t available on GW2 for some reason. Probably because you cannot actively target a player. Maybe if they were in your party you could right click their portrait and have an option “Follow” in the menu list would work just as well. People following me to a destination wont then keep asking “where are you?” or “where are you going?” because they lost track of me for a second.
5) Fix the combat mode system. Too often even after you have killed you foe the system keeps thinking your in a combat situation even though you are not targeted or suffering from a condition. This means your speed is reduced (why this is so in combat is beyond belief) and your health doesn’t refill. The only cure I have found for this other than walking 10 miles is either zone or log out.
I’ll add more as I think of them.
