Honestly, I love the GW universe and all that Anet has done. I really do. I feel I express my support far more than enough through the microtransactions within the game. But to set the requirement that veterans (and even more dedicated consumers) should drop $50 for an expansion that, as far as I can tell, doesn’t even amount to 25% of the content available in the base game is a real show of disrespect for that community. As a matter of principle, I find it very hard to purchase HoT at this point. I would love to have it, but I have to take a stand here. Some game studios/publishers have really abused their fan-base in recent years and I fear Anet has joined their ranks.
Thanks for the tips so far. I’m assuming the builder sites might not be completely up-to-date with the changes, so I’ll probably wait till I’m home to start lookin at all the traits and such.
So with the new patch out (and seeing some of the posts here…), I’m trying to figure out where I want to go with a WvW build.
Here’s where I’m at:
- My only level 80 is my warrior
- I like to be able to do decent damage from afar (rifle or longbow — longbow AOE sounds nicer to me)
- I like to also provide support — Healing shouts, shake it off and wielding a shield (not sure what to use for main hand) so I can soak up a bit of damage to survive or buy teammates time.
With that said, is there a reasonable build for me to do this with for a Warrior in the new patch? Or am I insane and need to re-roll?
Thanks!

I’m also hoping they change it to be a soloable quest. I actually did the Arah dungeon a while ago, but I’ve just now gotten that far in my storyline. Unfortunately, doing the dungeon isn’t even feasible anymore. No one is looking to do the dungeon. Heck, no one is even in Orr doing the events to unlock the gate.
I would really love to see henchmen added to GW2. Grouping with people is just an inconvenience sometimes (assuming there’s someone to even group with). It becomes more of a restriction when it comes to seeing all the content.
Adding my feedback here as requested in other topics:
1. I think ANet needs to rethink the “one time event” stuff. While it’s great that ANet wants to create great and unique events for players, there needs to be a way for everyone to experience it. Simply picking a peak time does not work as you still exclude/anger a great number of players who paid for the game and want to see the events as well. It’s also unrealistic to expect players to get up for an event that runs from 2am – 5am for them.
2. Related a little to the last sentence above — the final event was entirely too long. Again, I understand ANet is trying to create something epic, but it’s unrealistic to expect players to be able to hang around for 3 hours straight for a one time thing. Additionally, some elements were so drawn out (the two reinforcements waves) that players got frustrated and simply went afk. Half the event was probably the two reinforcement waves alone.
3. These sort of content patches need better testing. While public beta testing does allow spoilers to get leaked, it still allows us to be more confident that events are happening as expected.
Edit: For what it’s worth, the Halloween event’s handling/delivery was SIGNIFCANTLY better.
Wait. The karka attacked LA today? I never saw that.
A treb was being built and a boat showed up before it completed. Everyone left then.
So what are we waiting for? I’m sitting in overflow and there’s nothing happening.
I think people, especially those arguing with me, are overlooking one detail; the whole point of infusion slots is to overcome the new Agony stat. Back in GW1 we had a similar system where in infused armor granted resistance to the Spectral Agony skill, so I fell confident in speculating that this will work in a similar fashion. A big point being brought up is the offensive and defensive infusion slots, as if this means they must be stat based. I say they don’t, and I’ll give some examples off the top of my head.
Defensive: Reduce agony duration by X, reduce agony damage by X, gain regeneration when under the effects of agony, ect.
Offensive: Deal X greater damage while under the effects of Agony, gain X crit chance while under the effects of Agony, gain might when under the effects of Agony, ect.
I’m going to go out on a limb and bet that the effects from infused gear will be conditional, dependent on being effected by the new Agony stat or at least fighting creature types that use said skill. If this is indeed the case than pretty much every argument about infusion slots equaling rune or sigil slots evaporates. Frankly it wouldn’t matter at all if every single upgrade in the game as an infusion equivalent if I’m right and those upgrades are themselves dependent on the Agony condition to trigger. And I remind you this condition is ONLY found in the new dungeon. In fact I’d say this is little different than the gear separation we already have; now we have PvE gear, sPvP gear, and endless dungeon gear.
I understand your concern but at this point we don’t have enough information to go on, so you shouldn’t just assume the worse. This community has embarrassed itself before doing that.
The screenshot of ascended gear compared with an exotic clearly shows better stats on the ascended item even without the infusion slot being filled.
One of the biggest differentiators for GW2 was the notion that there would be no gear treadmill. I, and I’m sure other players, took this to mean that I could play the game casually without missing out. Instead, Ascended gear is being introduced. With its release, I will now have to grind out new gear to be able to see all the new content. I will also have to grind out gear to be sure I don’t get a butt whoopin in WvW.
If GW2 wants to continue to be different from other MMOs, I suggest Anet avoid the addition of new content that has these kind of gear requirements. Does this change alone make it like other MMOs? No, but it does make a sizeable step in that direction.
I play GW2 because it’s not just another MMO, but the blog post confirms that they are well on their way to becoming just another MMO.
Extremely disappointing that they are going this route.
This is saddening. I play GW2 to because it’s not the same formula as WoW, SWTOR, etc. This armor update signals to me that they are heading back to the same old formula, which will probably kill the game for a lot of people (IMO).
Hopefully they will read this thread and think hard about what they’re doing. I have high doubts about how much feedback they look at, though.
We run one-time events at the time where we have the highest concurrency.
You guys really need to rethink how you handle these things. I feel like a lot of GW2 players are getting screwed over by horrendous timing of these “one time events”. Anet needs to do something so all players can experience this, regardless of timezones.
Right now:
GoM +260
BP +255
AR + 180
I really hope this keeps up. The last two weeks were total shutdowns. I’ve been aching for a good fight.
This is the point where the match goes running off a cliff.
Borlis quickly taking the rest of the map.
Cyas next week!
I’m sorry. Did you say something? ;-)
Check it now.
Not sure about Cantha, but I’m thinking any Elona expansion is going to have Palawa Joko as a big figure. Lore for background here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Palawa_Joko)
“I just talked with Mike Ferguson about the questions and concerns that you expressed in this ticket. He said that the dev team is aware that some players are rather worried about changing worlds and how those changes can have a significant negative impact on the overall game experience. The good news is that, from observation, even widespread “desertions” of a world do, over time, end up getting balanced out as the world improves, as others decline, and so forth.
I’ve got no doubt that this would happen but it will happen over a longer period which is problematic. They really really need to take account of population shifts in the scoring.
I think it’s gonna have some impact on ranking, but I really don’t buy the idea that it will actually get balanced. It seems like a completely unknown factor that can never be properly accounted for.
Its not that we are stacked, its that Yaks dropped down a tier…
Yes…we shouldn’t have dropped a tier. This is another by-product of the free transfers.
Speak up Arenanet…your rankings are messed up badly and they are weighed down by several weeks of worthless data.
This is the response I got from Gaile on a ticket:
“I just talked with Mike Ferguson about the questions and concerns that you expressed in this ticket. The good news is that, from observation, even widespread “desertions” of a world do, over time, end up getting balanced out as the world improves, as others decline, and so forth.
But just so you are aware, the concern about wide-scale world changes was one of the reasons that the 24-hour “timer” was placed on players’ ability to join a new world, and other, more subtle factors also discourage (or at least do not reward) frequent world changes.
The team is working on some major elements of the WvWvW format that will address nearly every current player issue. We don’t have a timeframe for when these changes will roll out, but their development and testing holds a high priority on the “to-do” list.
I guess as a player I want to say “Hang in there” for a while, because I do know that things will get better!"
I asked that they’d make a sticky in the forums to address this since it comes up so much, but I haven’t seen anything yet.
I doubt it will be reset and don’t think it will matter. YB is stacked right now.
Ok, my bad. It was my first time seeing a crowd get dropped like that. Pretty ridiculous.
Nerf thieves
Can someone explain to me how on earth we got all 3 orbs? Am I going to have to call Dr. Hax, or are we just that good.
The thief I mentioned above was from YB… I think the tag he had was [TOG]
We had a thief wipe an entire group (30+) in a matter of seconds on one of the borderlands… is that even feasible??
