The runes and traits can obviously be swapped. But this build has high toughness, good HP and heals a lot. Plus the knockback, pull etc to keep the point yours

I just noticed these guys too…

Wow, someone’s maths has gone mental at Anet :P

Here’s the base mats for the arty version:

30 Pile of Crystalline Dust
100 Pile of Bloodstone Dust
2 Obsidian Shard
60 Thermocatalytic Reagent
400 Soft Wood Log
150 Seasoned Wood Log
300 Hard Wood Log
5 Glob of Ectoplasm
750 Elder Wood Log

I’m sorry, but that’s just ridiculous. Way too expensive.

The only value to this item IMO is if you get a whole WvW map to use the station in the 5 mins before it runs out. Even then, it’s going to be one hell of a generous player who lays out that kind of investment for a relatively minor buff.

Feedback: WvW Season 1 Achievements

in WvW

Posted by: Luculus.9860

Luculus.9860

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this way. I hope the Devs see this post and understand that achievements could be handled better in WvW.

It is a big shame we’re stuck with this for 7 weeks though – I very much doubt any changes will be made before season 2.

Defensive Ach’s – I didn’t mention these on purpose as, quite simply, they can be exploited very easily. But leaving them out says a lot about the current state of WvW. Something I hope is fixed sooner rather than later.

Feedback: WvW Season 1 Achievements

in WvW

Posted by: Luculus.9860

Luculus.9860

I have some constructive criticisms I’d like to post about the achievements in Season 1.

This is not a discussion about server performance, queues or anything other than the actual achievements.

I’m a regular WvW player but not someone who lives in there, or never goes in there except for monthlies. I hope my perspective is balanced.

Here’s a summary of the actual achievements and then my observations on the system as a whole…

Advanced Mists Defender: 450 kills. The monthly is 50. The Season is ~2 months long. So, about 4-5 times more kills are needed to achieve in WvW. I don’t really have a problem with this as fifty is essentially one or two zerg v zerg battles and 450 kills in 2 months is very doable. Maybe the monthly needs looking at?

Big Spender: OK, fine way to introduce people to the WvW laurel vendor and remove some badge bloating from the economy.

Camp Crusher: 100 camps. I’ve done ~1000 in a year. 2 months for 100 seems OK if a little high. 75 may have been more in line.

Castles in the Air: 5 Stonemist captures. Again, a bit too high and it assumes/insists you play EBG a lot. Some guilds & people specialise in the borders. 1 (token) or 3 would be more reasonable.

Demolition Expert: 30 walls/gates. Apart from the fact it appears to be bugged. Why on earth would I kick a treb/cata/ram expert off just to get this achievement? I’m an AC specialist for siege. Helping with DPSing them down should be fine but it seems to be at 0/30 despite taking down a dozen doors over the weekend.

Guard Killer: 500. Just a side achievement for doing the rest – I’m not sure if it’s a fair amount til I’ve done the ‘real’ stuff

Leapers in the Mists: No. Please, just no. What have JP’s got to do with WvWvW? ~25% of all WvW achievements for JPs?? One would have been ample as an introduction to WvW JPs – any more is just…wrong :p

Master of Ruins: 50. So, if I take one+ ruin per day for the next 7 weeks I’ll just about get the achievement. Too many. Ruins players will have this in a few days, everyone else will have to take time out of having fun just for an over-extended achievement.

Mist Merc Camps: 50. A PvE achievement….and 50 times. I’m crying here. Too many, wrong game mode. I think it’s fine to nod in their direction with a ‘Take Ogres a few times’ achievement…but 50?!?

No Tower Too High: 30. Perfect. Weekend WvWers can get this done with some solid play.

Defense Restorer: 500 is too high IMO. Will just lead to people wasting precious supply on walls that are being trebbed etc.

Sentry Capture: 225. Too high. That’s nearly 5 a day every day of the season.

Supplies Severed: 225. Too high. That’s nearly 5 a day every day of the season.

The Keeps: 10. Perfect.

World Ranker: 50. Or 125,000 wxp. Yuck. This seems too high. Maybe an attempt to get more badges spent.

So, overall not great when individually analysed. But, as a system I think it is a far bigger failure…

15/19 Ach required (79%). Too high in itself. WvW has many specialists. Specialists in different maps, in building up places and dolly escort, in various siege types, in camp/sentry capping, in ruins fighting etc. Having to fulfil 79% of all modes (including just plain non-WvW activities like JPs and Merc camps) is wrong IMO.

Next systemic failure: Tying achievements to arbitrary amounts and not the dailies…

My suggestion would be: if you want people to log in regularly even if only for a small amount then dailies are great e.g. instead of cap 100 camps, do the camp daily for 10 days.

Tying dailies to the Living World has worked really well in PvE to get the required number of achievements, but you’ve failed to use this great system in WvW achievements. I believe that this is a mistake and this first season is going to feel like a horrible grind to do elements that players do not want to do.

Last point on how the system fails IMO…

What about the already existing WvW ‘achievements’? I really thought these would be reworked and people could get some retroactive acknowledgement of their activity levels in WvW. One title at 250,000 is a bit silly and this was ripe for utilising properly rather than ignoring.

Summary (or the TL,DR bit)
- Systemic failure of WvW achievements:
- They should be based on dailies, not arbitrary amounts
- They don’t allow for the specialisations which have grown up in WvW – everyone is forced to put in some proper hours into every element of WvW
- What about all the achievements people already have which have never been acknowledged?

Thanks for reading

More mini games? What about the core game?

I’m a big GW2 fan but I’m not really sure why such an amazing world – ripe for exploration – keeps getting mini-games as updates.

Is it possible to please bring out more dungeons, more exploration achievements, more zones?

I’m not complaining about not finishing the related achievements – I may, I may not. I’m suggesting that such a rich and well made world should be deepened and expanded – not just have ‘diversions’ as the core part of updates.

What class best for +all Stats armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Luculus.9860

Different gear does not equate to bad. A player is more than the gear they wear and the weapon they use, in all honestly.

I have no issue with people choosing to run all zerker armor. If that is how they enjoy playing, cool. You’re very correct that some people do enjoy just power housing through the game play, that’s fine. I take issue when people come along and tell me that by using something else I must be bad, or stupid. Quite frankly, I am neither. I am simply different. I enjoy playing a different way, with a different set up.

I accept how others play (don’t always necessarily agree), but I resent when people are intolerant of how I (and others play) and try forcing their ‘our way or no way’ on us when we aren’t even playing with you. You do you thing, I’ll do mine. I have no desire to run speed clears…..ever.

+1

IMO builds (gear, traits etc) are best when they fit YOUR playstyle. When they bring the best out of it.

If your playstyle is “kill them before they kill you” then zerker gear is great. If it isn’t – and there are many more playstyles – then it isn’t.

Suggesting that someone is bad because they don’t copy you and your choices is extremely childish and ill-informed.

After today’s patch (13/2), many Slayer Achievements have been changed on my account to 999/1000. The Achievement points seemed to have been deducted as well from my overall score and I can kill one mob more to get them (I noticed when I started getting Slayer achievements I had completed ages ago).

Obviously, this isn’t a game affecting bug, but is slightly annoying nonetheless.

Players enjoying, forum go-ers whining?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Luculus.9860

I know my initial terms where extreme – most people are not all “fanbois” or “whiners” but sometimes more one, and sometimes more the other.

I was feeling mischievous this morning and incorporated a certain amount of Troll into my post :P

However, one thing I have noticed is that the majority of the initial replies are negative and the majority of the later replies are more balanced and some even supportive. This simply feeds my impression that there is a section of the community in these games that just hangs around the forums to spread negativity and doom.

I’ve seen it time and time again. Sometimes a game really deserves it (SWTOR anyone?) but quite often these types of posts are not from people who play, they’re from people who just hate.

Players enjoying, forum go-ers whining?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Luculus.9860

Luculus.9860

Do people think, in general, that these forums (and game forums in general) are so negative because the people who are really enjoying themselves just play and don’t come here to whine?

I mean this seriously.

When I talk about the various topics in guild that are brought up on these boards, the responses are totally different.

Some recent examples:

Ascended armour: forums consensus = bad, a treadmill. Guild consensus = could be good, let’s wait and see, only a “must have” for deep Fractal adventures.

Event: forums consensus = laggy, unfair, skews the economy etc. Guild consensus = one of the best events in online gaming ever.

Fractals: forum consensus = elitist, gated, treadmill etc. Guild consensus = excellent fun, innovative and rewarding.

On my guild forums, negative posters just get ignored or asked to stop being so attention seeking. We can all spot them. They enjoy dragging things down and foreseeing doom.

These forums seem to be riddled with this type of post like a cancer. It’s depressing. I come here to read about the game – people’s thoughts and experiences, some tips and info. But the majority of thread titles are just doom.

According to this forum – the game died 4 weeks after release, no one is playing except for hardcore grinders and treadmill lovers. My experience in game is the total opposite. Players that are casual, like to explore, to “potter”, to craft, to try a bit-of-this, a-bit-of-that are seeing this as the best game in years to cater to their playstyle.

Anyway, I’ll leave it there.

Although, if my theory is true, the following responses will be mainly negative as the forum population will see and answer this, whilst the regular players will miss it because they’re online and having fun

Anybody else miss "punishing" games?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Luculus.9860

Luculus.9860

I’ve played Darkfall Online and EVE in the past few years, and they are probably the most punishing games currently around i.e. full loot, non-consensual pvp.

I love the atmosphere these games create but, quite simply, the market for these games is much smaller than none-to-low-consequence games. It’s simply a matter of economics IMO.

I mean, look at their subs – EVE is ~400k of which I would bet about 50% are alts, DFO had about 10k for most of its life. (Let’s see what kind of subs DF:UW manages to hold.)

Vanguard kept the corpse runs of EQ and IMO they created some of the most enjoyable memories of the game. These have been dropped now – the majority of gamers just don’t want them apparently.

IMO – time-wasting elements are crap and I’m glad they’ve done away with them. With the average gamer age now being in the 30’s, we have lives, families, jobs etc and don’t have 1 hour to just meet up with a group. However, I do wish there were penalties for not playing well – it makes people learn to play better.

It would be a brave, and probably a lot poorer, company that would release a AAA game with them in.

Sorry to be annoying but…

I thought this initially as I was levelling tailoring until it occurred to me: Without this element there’d be a lot smaller economy.

The required amounts to craft are MEANT to be too high as you level to force up demand. This demand is then supplied by people wanting to make money from harvesting.

The game as a whole would be far poorer without this element.
