Guys you forgot something essential:
The gap between exo/ascen is MINIMAL, so not a MUST for WvW or anything, just for the new dungeon, and guess what? you will get the gear while progressing trough it.

I dont consider 8% difference minimal , its quite enough to be difference in small scale fight in WsW.
yes , it IS minimal , even if YOU dont consider it minimal , but the fact remains that hitting for 30 extra per swing and having 110 more hp isnt going to make one dam bit of difference im sorry , still, i think its a good idea to just add infusion slots , or let crafters add them to the rest of the lvl 80 exotics that way , people DONT HAVE to grind the ascended gear and could just slot/infuse their existing exotics to their liking,
that way we all get content and no one has a bigger stat weiner than the next guy and its still just about look
but alas, i think people are way way waaaaay overreacting over something that is so minor , that it can be offset with foodbuffs

okay people, its not a must have set of gear because the stat gain is so stupidly marginally low that the difference in dmg from you to a guy that does have the ascended gear is…

what about gold seller gold? with gold buyers getting so much gold from botters world wide (lets face it, they wouldnt have had to ban 4k bots if it wasnt profitable in some manner to…well…bot) isnt a big part of that gold being used to buy gems and further altering the price? how does that work out?

How does allowing players to turn gold into gems “inflate the exchange ratio” in a negative way, though? People buying gems with gold causes gems to be worth more gold, not less.
in short, gold sellers
gems COST more gold, because people have ZERO qualms about buying them with gold because of the ridiculously good deal on gold they get from botters, so …it costs more gold for everyone else that is not buying gold, wich means they have to farm MORE for the same amount of gems
until such time when the gold seller/buyers/botters are no longer a hampering problem for the economy and the amount of gold circulating around ,they should take the abilty to buy gems with gold away , period.

short of nuking the entire gold pool on the game right now, the only way to EVENTUALLY fix this , is to start by removing the ability to buy gems with gold
yes its a fine convenience and a way to get gem only stuff without using my credit card, but id rather have a a higher value for my doller when i do buy gems using cash if it means gold sellers/buyers no longer control the gem/gold exchange ratio….and the only way to do this is to stop people from buying gold and turning into gems thus screwing the value of the exchange for everyone else

you have a good setup and the currency exchange would be a perfect idea and tool if the internet didnt have farmers and gold sellers , unfortunatley it does and Anet has to roll with the punches and adapt
TLDR: the only way to keep the currency exchange values constant and fair is to remove gold to gem exchange because gold from gold sellers is being used and thus ruining the value and market for both conversions and taking revenue away from Anet
Yeah because a car really is legendary… So far this quest for a legendary seems to be a never ending farm fest of Cursed Shore or luck fest, TRUELY, LEGENDARY.

You know, have the opportunity to gain earn money (2 mil euros) is also about luck, You need the contracts, promotions, benefits and you also need to work 10000000x harder than in any game out there.And yet there are still thousand of people doing 100x less work then you and they have 100x more money than you. The world we are living is NOT FAIR and the LUCK is kitten big factor.
We are not talking about they way of obtaining things, but about the actual things. Usually the ’’way’’ of obtaining really valuable things are full of obstructions and its pain, but when you get there, you have kitten good feeling of satisfaction.
You are like every other second person, you see what you want to see, and just ignore the other things.I still think that only 1% of player base should have legendary at max. If 10% have them, they loose the value and prestigue. (btw I dont have legendary)

I believe Areanet knows what to do and I hope they do the right thing for the game, for us and company. Whatever that might be.
I still don’t get the mentality that they need to be exclusive to a very small percentage of the player base. We all paid money for the game and we’re all entitled to experience everything it has to offer. If anet wants it’s game to die it will make content that only a very small amount of people get to see. If they want their game to grow they will make challenging yet fun content that a lot of people can see.
Please note I’m not saying Anet should make content geared towards the lowest skilled players. It still needs to be fun and challenging, but it can’t be exclusive to ~5% of the game population.
Besides that stop worrying about what other people have and are doing with their time in the game and start playing the game for yourself. For me, I want Twilight because I think it looks amazing. I would feel the same if it was given as reward for reaching level 2.

ive never been too good at playing the market either , but that is THE fastest most consistent way to do it if you know how
the basic principle is this, buy low, sell high
meaning camp the tp for heavily traded items and look for lower than market price deals and repost them for a higher price, if you find limited supply of items you can buy them all then repost at your price, something wich is harder to do here with th eTP being global and all, but the place order system helps with this
as far as farming remember everyone can do it, so while you will make money by sellilng everything, it will be slow going , consistent, but slow going and it requires the most time investment per gold out of the three
finding a karma farm isnt hard, but how do you turn karma into cash? theyve removed/nerfed into oblivion most if not all the ways to make money with karma, i guess one could farm karma and go buy cooking ingredients and just make dyes but just like farming , that will be slow going : /
Ohh I forgot… GW2 Is a fashion show. Nice :P All they worry about is the skin of the weapon/item. Adding a bit more damage to Legendary isn’t gonna make you OP. Beside, who ever said WvW/PVP is a 1v1. Its all about who has the biggest Zerg. So it doesn’t matter if Anet adds a bit more damage to the Legendary weapons.
If you need a gear-based crutch I can recommend dozens of MMOs for you.
This one was specifically advertised as being skill-based, not “I played longest, I have leet gear, I win”.
You don’t what your talking about man. If you’re saying this is skill-based, then it shouldn’t matter if a Legendary weapon has a bit more damage. If a player who has more skill-base then a player with a Legendary, its shouldn’t matter. Besides Anet could balance the weapon base if you go PVP or PVE. just like they do it for lvl wise when you enter WvW etc.

at the end of the day, if you buff the legendary stats, the one with legendary has a statistical advantage over the person without it, even if its minor, its still , a statistical advantage just because “theyve played longer”
as it stands legendaries only need gold, time, or luck with the forge, neither of those should give you a statisticall advantage , period the second they do, it becomes a "must have " to min maxers and whatnot
this game is all about looks and how skilled you are , how well built is your trait setup, etc etc not about who has more luck or the more leetpwn item
i think its all a matter of preference and having a goal to strive for..
myself? id like bifrost and maybe a twilight but i wont “grind” for them, ill simply slowly save up and if i get it someday so be it
the one i really must have is the crossing, for wich i gathered all the “just on halloween” materials needed for it, now i just need the gold to create the recipe then just save it till i get all the other stuff eventually but i wont “grind” for it, ill just save up as i go, and have it eventually , wich will be great because most people will probably ahve forgotten about it by then lol
You wanna screw with the bots? Pick up some novelty items like fireworks, and drop them in the bots path, they will pick them up, and you haven’t seen funny until you see a train of bots armed with fireworks trying to kill mobs :P

Hey dude, yea I got a life, I got parents, and everything, so yea, one day of farming like a zerg without time to go to the toilet is a lot. Wasting 7 gold and a day when you also need gold for your legendary and your cultural t3 armor, just for a character slot, that feels bad. Especially when most someone are doing the same with a few dollars.
Not sure you’d be happy to lose your sunday for a character slot.

as for making gold less important in game, its " importance" ends up being purely cosmetical, since 90% of the gold sinks in this game are legendaries, cultural gear and pretty much graphical customization for your character , or wvw (you can spend a lot of cash there actually) so gold’s importance in-game is equivalent to how important it is for you to have T3 cultural / legendary gear
I mean, if you offer more gold for gems, I’ll have to give more gold to get gems. Last time, I wanted to buy a new character slot, it costed me 7 gold! An entire day of farming and doing nothing else! Now I have the feeling that I farmed for a gold seller – actually for Arenanet – so I’m not sure I’ll ever do this again.
At release, it was 40 silver for 112 gems.
Now with 40 silver you get like 50 gems and it was 30-40 gems during Halloween.To me, there’s no difference between Arenanet and chinese bots selling gold. I mean, bots did nothing to me, both are making this game P2W. The only good thing with Arenanet is that I can get gems in exchange… now if it’s 3 gems for 3 gold, I’m not sure I’m so interested.

also i dont see many asura engineers for some reason…
im guessing its going to get its own zone 100% achievement, but i dont think it will end up counting toward the meta of worldwide map completion , wich makes sense as then they dont have to change anything for the ones that already got it, all they get is anew achieve slot and makes it fair for everyone regardless
TLDR: i think you wont need lost shore to get 100 map completion, but it will get its own zone achieve just like every other zone
well i dont know about you guys over at oceanic areas
but over here in americas and its territories they had hurracain sandy hit the east coast pretty hard, then you got the presidential race and equivalent democratic races in its territories from the US , so i havent been logging on this week due to watching a lot of tv and just long work days and whatnot
i think well start seeing a lot more people soon as they start going on thanksgiving breaks and thers more people at thier homes whatnot
i play in dragonbrand and the pop has dropped somewhat these days but nothing to be alarmed of
the real problem is , theres a lot of 80s by now, and they have little to no reason to go back to lower zones to do events, people need to start heading to lower level zones to get their dailys but i admit i dont care too much about the daily most of the time
too much potential for greifing, plus ive lost one or two items while making bag space because the leader leaves before im done
seriously irritating and should get addressed asap

A particular class that utilizes player awareness, and high, fast damage isn’t a new thing. Why are we acting like it is? If you avoid that 2-3 second burst tor average thief is an easy kill. A good thief can still put up a fight, though.

after the first hit m either stunned, knocked down, blinded, or otherwise halfway dead, so pray do tell how exactly do i avoid something thats coming from a stealthed ganker that i wont even see coming?
NO CLASS should be able to global another class while incapacitated in 3 seconds, period, and thats not even mentioning they can reset the fight as many kittenimes as they want too
globalling was a problem in wow arenas, tot he point where they had to put resilience stat in and the dmg scaling has gone up so much that even resilience wont stop you from getting globaled

as to the norn female issues, some classes look horrible, though i made a female norn elementalist, tall slider all the way down, find a skinny body with some sick body tatoos and they look pretty awsome, that said you feel like everyone else is a midget when you are playing a norn
i always rolled female toons because hey , if im going to be playing a fantasy game, id rather be looking at something asthetically pleasing , and that includes female avatars (human/humanoid ones at least)
that said, i tend to have an equal amount of M/F toons on all games, i have a human female, silvari female, and norn female, male asura and charr, when i buy another slot, ill make a male norn as my guardian
i dont fantasize about my characters but they are most of the time more astethicaly pleasing to me and their armours look better ( at least her ein GW2 the light armors on females look pretty awsome)
ive done it once or twice on my necro, using minions and pretty much everything in my arsenal and hope you dont agrro anything else, but it takes AGES to kill a champ for what amounts to somewhat minmal gain, its fun dont get me wrong, but if its not a meta event chain or some of that , just hang around for a while killing stufff, all you need for most is one or two extra players and its doable
well …except metrica province fire elemental , taht one is ….painful regardless of the amount of people there
dunno must be your servers, because in mine (full/high 99 percent of the time i admit) i always find people to do events , plenty of levelers so far, a lot of people are on their 2nd toon by now so its probably that too…
however , i have to ask…why stay on a low pop server when the transfers have been free and unlimited up until now that they have a 7 day cooldown?
i realize there is guild progress and upgrades that youd lose but …
screams future content, yes its been there since day one, i remember wondering….
the townspeople are also weird, like they are hiding something and also afraid, if you talk to them u know something shady is going on, im guessing a future questline for a future content update at some point
< ten years of MMOs and their respective forums experience, i havent seen A SINGLE ONE that wasnt like this at some point or another, the best thing Anet and we can do is this:
ignore the haters, ranters, whiners, trolls, and anyone that cant take the patience time and decency to provide their FEEDBACK on a correct manner, and make it a point to answer to the well written feedback and acknowledging those posters
the whiners and petulant children will eventually move on to troll the next hipster thing , and Anet will save themselves the headache of trying to please a 100% UNPLEASABLE mass of content locusts that will never shut up no matter how good of a job they do
when they finally go away , what we are left with are the people with common sense that wont throw a hissy fit because they didnt get their halloween skin on their 10th run or w/e
I tend to agree with the OP. Would be nice if the utility skills swapped along with the weapon skills. Seems like you’d have deeper customization and greater options.
while it may sound fun, it would bring a WHOLE lot of balance issues, similar to what we got now that some spells can be chained together in a way that they all land at the same time
spells have their own cooldowns, if i could equip another set of support skills while in combat , i could , theoretically , chain support skills like that too, and we all know some support skills are very strong, imagine them combined with say…3 mantra abilties on a mesmer on one bar, port, poison well , whatever on the other one, the mester could precharge all his mantras , switch to the main weapon, use his well , port whatever, and instantly switch and smack you with daze, dmg, cripple charged mantras all in less than 2 seconds …..its jsut a random example but you get the idea, it would require a lot of balancing that i dont think they will ever wanna do , its fine as it is
I like the skill and combat system in GW2. I agree with others who have posted that just because an MMO has a massive skill bar doesn’t mean you use any more than the 8-10 skills anyway. It just leads to a needlessly cluttered UI.
i started a elem. i got bored by the slow attack speed on all basic auto weapon skills…
Elementalists are all about switching attunements to burn the cooldowns on their spells. You should almost never be using the basic attack – I’m guessing you didn’t even hit level 10.
I’m with Dark. I find playing my ele is like juggling a bunch of spinning plates. I can’t see how anyone can be bored if they’re playing the profession and properly switching attunements.
This might be a case of a player needing to realize that one has to play the game the way it was designed rather than expecting standard MMO mechanics.
Elementalists and Engineers really have a wide swath of things to choose from and swap due to their kits/elements…some classes like Thief though are pretty limited in terms of their combat.
i can agree to this though, for example , to me necro , is just downright boring to play after a while , its great for grouping WVW because you then can combo with EVERYONE with a staff and the right support skills and wells, but for solo play , they pretty boring though….mesmers on the other hand, are fun all around, so many different playstyles depending on what you got equipped, i think they got a great weaponskill set
engineers too, they can get a whole lot of different abilities so ur never bored , elementalists cant comment as i havent played one past lvl 10

well , forgot to say , that for W v W ( or server vs server vs server) is open world, meaning you use your pve gear and talents, and that uses your real level , so one does have to level the class if he intends to use it to play world pvp and actually do some contribution in sieges etc.
< played an elemental shaman all the way through cataclysm , so trust me I KNOW where you are coming from, downright THE most ignored class in the game for YEARS (i was there , and got forum banned, for the Tseric ragequit, and emonix ..well…emo rants…)
been playing this game since day 1 , and i can say its a lot better balanced that Wow and their pvp-in-a-box will ever be , stats dont matter here for pvp so much as your build, everyone gets put at lvl 80 , and given all their trait points, (you go to a different zone, heart of the mists , to do pvp and q up for BG’s)
you get separate traits(talents) , gear, and setup in the heart of the mists for pvp, everyone is maxed out and you can freely customize your setup , vendors sell free runes and pieces of gear so you can do what you like, but as far as stats go, all pvp gear has the same stats (meaning you cant really “upgrade” anything ) and theres just a lot of visual customization for your character , wich is what you get out of pvp chests and glory and such (its somewhat different and long to explain here but plenty of info on pvp crafting / grinding around) but a crafted/chest dropped axe is going to have teh same top end dmg and stats that the default free axe that you start with (as is the case with all weapons for all characters on pvp)
you just change the sigils and runes on them to get the stat combination you want for the traits you are gonna run with , but there is no blue gladiator/epic gladiator / pro ranked gladiator set like there is in wow, classes dont have class specific pvp gear for them or anything
as far as balance goes, Anet has always focused more on pvp, so as you can expect its a little more balanced and polished combat and class wise than WoW , but for now we are limted to 4 domination maps (capture points and hold them ) and WvWvW , wich is pretty fun but timeconsuming and somewhat of a mess right now with people still transfering around (free 1 day cooldown server transfers atm, but thats temporary)
the fun part is, you dont have to level anything here to try the other classes, all you need to be il lvl 2 to go to the mists and pvp, since you get leveld to 80 in the mists anyways, also, glory ( valor) rank and progresson is ACCOUNT wide , not character base, so you can grind all your pvp rank as you see fit with a different class everyday if you wanted
it IS different but once you start getting into the intricacies of combat in GW2 and really learn some classes , combos, etc. you really have a blast on this games pvp
i myself havent had this much fun pvping since the days of vanilla wow running WSG/AB teams on the low lvl 30s and having a blast
in any case, the game is definetly worht the 60 dollars, and you can play it whenever being that it has no sub, ive only spent 10 dollars on cash store so far to buy another bank tab and some left over gems to turn into gold

@ archaon, its obvious youve never played a mesmer otherwise youd know how easy is to counter every clone, phantasm and image i could possibly conjure up…..(hint: it has to do with stealthing and leaving me targetless, ill let you figure it out)
and obvious you also play a thief , we get it, no one likes his 3 button pwn machine nerfed , ohterwise how would all the pvping thiefs watch netflix while they play ?
I haven’t noticed the cost of waypoints since level 1 to about 20, to me this doens’t stop me from traveling around at all.
if you havent experienced traveling around @ 80, you have no say in this argument
the point is , the travel costs scale too much with level (to the point where the distance is irrelevant, i can pay 5 silver to go to the next zone over, or 5 and a half silver to get to the other side of the world, simply put , its stupid) and that they cost too much to move in the same zone (at the very least, travel within the same map should have a 1 silver capped cost regardless of level )
could we have some sort of system where the game locks the account temporarily pending investigation if you get reported multiple times as a bot?
that way even players have some sort of control to get the bots out of the equation while CS gets to their case
if you are a bot, you will get 10 reports in no time , wich will ban the account until futher investigation
that would be a great system and would do much to cull the bot plague and peoples rage

the thing is, there are already PLENTY of gold sinks in this game, and being that they let bots run rampant for a month before even starting to do anything means theres already ridiculous amounts of gold running around the system, all it does is hurt the people that cant farm very well or with limited playtime, because its not doing anything to cull the injection of gold into the economy at this point
at the very least, traveling around the SAME MAP should be free, or very very cheap, i understand travelling to other zones should cost more, but why do i need to pay 5 silver to port 10 feet away? that makes no sense, and yes i know i can walk there, but the default fee for inzone traveling is too high

i agree with the op, the game needs cash sinks but the higher than it should be waypoint cost DOES work against the social aspect of the game, if im halfway across the map when someone says " need more for fire elemental" you can be dam sure i wont be porting to it because its gonna cost me 40silvers even if im in the same zone, that is NOT ok in my book
i still play the game , but i can also say that it does deter me from moving around and participating in events or helping out guildies or randoms, i would port everywhere if it was a reasonable 25s capped cost but as it stands , its a wee bit too expensive for lvl 70 + characters imo
protip: boots are soulbound but you can get them with another caracter, then transmute them onto the boots your wearing on your norn now, problem solved
however , truth be told , i hold zero simpathy for people that purposedly made their characters bigger than a semi truck for whatever reason, be it to piss people off by blocking npcs, or simply wave their kitten around lions arch, the fact remains, 95% of the howitzer tank sized toons out there look downright RIDICULOUS …..im looking at you male norn player with a maxed size slider…

at level 80 , the simply get downright ridiculous, i would like to break up the monotony of grinding karma , but i can because if i try porting around every fifteen minutes around zones, i end up not offsetting the farming im doing, so i either break even , in wich case i just wasted my time, or lose some money altogether in wich case i wasted both time AND money
they could have a zone cap, as in , even for 80s traveling to queensdale will be a flat X amount max and forget about adjusting it based on distance , id gladly go back to lvl 30 zones to farm and do events with the newbies if it didnt cost me a gold after going there and back, simply put, i refuse to waste an hour grinding stuff just to offset the freaking cost of MOVING AROUND in a timely fashion (no spending 25% of my limited playtime these days just walking everywhere aint gonna cut it)
yese there should be a cost to using waypoints, but it could use some tweaking for the 70-80 lvl range, they are , too big imo
LOD distance adjusts how far high textures and such are loaded ( aka the higher the setting, the farther objects will keep their highrez textures, anything past the setting is downsampled or w/e and blurred out so the game doenst have to load those textures

i know im in the very odd minority but i am literally taking my sweet time with this game, ive had it since day 2 , and i still dont have a toon higher than 60 , coming up on 12 pvp rank, about 4 proffesions oat the 250ish range , done pretty much every jumping puzzle i can do for my level range of toons, and im just slowly learning and playing randomly between all my five toons, though i admit i sort of “restarted” because halfway thru fifty on my necro i realized they just still have a ton of bugs and minion ai is plain kitten so i started a mesmer, wich i pvp a lot with …
anyways..im rambling here, the point is , that even though im probably in the minority , if you take your sweet time with it and jsut forget that there is a level cap(as in dont even care about your level or reaching level cap at all, you reach it when you reach it) you have a lot of fun and dont run into the “closed loop” that the op speaks of, however, there is PLENTY to do on this game, jsut isnt everyones cup of tea, mainly the “content locust” type of player that has by now cleared all dungeon paths and done 100 percent map , there is no higher “gear plateau” for them , so in their eyes , there is no “Endgame” , wich is imho , the biggest part of the issue
i cant find it now, but i know for a fact that someone did the calculations and tests and found out that the game IS having some sort of wrong calculation for widescreen rendering resulting in a much narrower field of view than for 4.:3 monitors , so there is something funky about it though i admit i dont understand it all very well
where did the big bad mesmer touch you?
minions use skills slots, so do our images /decoys etc , ur not special, in fact, you are better off since you actually GET extra skills on your weapons, we get a lot of drumroll illusion summoning skills on our weapons, thats why they dont take as much support skills slots as your minions do on your necro
its called balance, also, the argument is pretty stupid given i can spawn 2 illusions the second im downed anyways with my downed abilities , your conditions on me dont go away when you are downed why should my illusions die when im downed?
all im saying is , illusions cant interrupt you unless i shatter…something wich i CANNOT do when im downed
they are looking at it, the answered this on the live panel the other day, and they need to find out if there is actually bugs with the widescreen calculations before starting to add/tweak stuff, if we dont get some response on that in a few weeks, then we can bring the issue up again , but its been answered posted the link to the transcript here on this thread a few posts above this one
