I’m a returning player after taking a break for about a year, and I just started collecting the carapace/lumi armor pieces, much to my disappointment.
I play Asura exclusively. I know this was my choice – but I feel like I’m being punished for it. Of course there have been complaints in the past over the scaling of things, because they’re so tiny it’s hard to see details of weapons we work so hard to make (I’m looking at you, immobulus) but that’s another thing entirely – my complaint today is, “why do female asura get the male version of most armors”?
The female humanoid version of the carapace/luminescent armor is amazing – the butterfly design is appealing, and it looks quite impressive. Now put it on a female asura, and you lose everything special about it. Even from a design perspective, I don’t see why female asura are always given the male armor skins. In some ways, making an asura wear skimpy armor would look weird, yes. But in this case specifically, I don’t understand why.
Probably nothing can be done about it this late, but in the future, I’d really love to see if Asura would get a better treatment in the armor (and weapon) skins department.
I suppose the same could be said for female Charr.
We pay the same amount as people who have bigger characters.. With less to show for it. As soon as I put it on I was immediately disappointed. I mean the size scaling for Asura has always been terrible, (I’m still annoyed about the tiny effects of my Immobulus) but this is scaled down even more than usual. Our heads are pretty big for our bodies, and the halo doesn’t fit to our head size. Plus it’s off center (too far forward).
I mean in my screenshot you can barely even see it! :(
I crafted Immobulus for my Asura Elementalist recently, and was very hesitant to equip it due to the fact that I knew it’d be hard to see. The problem is, it’s my favourite weapon skin in the game, and Asura are my favourite race. So there’s no two ways around it – my Asuran Ele was getting the Immobulus.
I spent a month or more gathering the items to craft it, it cost a small fortune. If i were to buy it out right, it would have cost twice as much. This is not an easy to acquire weapon. Yet, it feels so lack luster!
The biggest issue I have with it isn’t even the weapon scaling itself – it’s the scaling of the particle effect surrounding it. Why is it so tiny? Why? If you don’t zoom in real close and actually look at it, it just looks like pinkish confetti or dots around the scepter. I wanted to see my Moons, Stars, and Hearts! That’s what I worked so hard for!
I know there’s already topics and complaints about the Asuran weapon size scaling in game, and it has bothered me before, but now I cant just ignore it anymore.
Please Anet.
I just made Immobulus for my asuran elementalist. I was really really considering selling it, because I KNEW the particle effects would barely show up on an asura, but it’s my favourite skin in the game.
I spent months working on it. 250 Giant eyes is an enormous price to pay.
I can barely see the particles. This upsets me greatly. Pls Anet.
The sword looks cooler than the other two~ Just my opinion of course, but i like it more than the staff and greatsword… I find a lot of the staves to be lacking in design though, but that may be just me.
I just wish they’d make the one-handed and off-hand weapons cheaper, because spending 63k karma for each one is pretty steep.
Nice, thanks to the two people who posted images of Greatsword and Staff. They look pretty nice. Not sure if it’s worth all the karma, but it’s nice to be able to see it to keep my options open.
Thanks again
I’m just wondering why they all cost the same amount of karma, regardless of type. It makes it very unappealing to get a one-handed or off-handed weapon from the cultural sets. The dungeon weapon token cost is reduced based on this. (I believe) the numbers are 390 for 2-handed, 300 for one-handed and 210 for an off-hand. Why is it that karma-bought cultural weapons are 63k across the board?
Also, I’d really love to see the preview of the Sylvari weapons WORK.
I’m so happy to see this topic, it states what I believe entirely.
I don’t mind hard dungeons. I really don’t. Some people might just be mad because their “free farm” dungeons got buffed, and some other people make fun of the people who have trouble saying they should stop being noobs and L2P.
But seriously, it’s not the difficulty of the dungeons that bothers me (ok, indirectly it is) but how unfun they are. There’s nothing interesting about them. They’re just needlessly hard with no real strategy or teamworking involved, every single battle in every single dungeon can be summed up in one of these categories:
1) Giant HP monster that takes forever to kill just for the sake of taking forever to kill. No real tricks or gimmicks, just a big fat wall in your way.
2) Boss monster X with insta kill abilities.
3) A timed “protect the NPC” event with more monsters spawning than are even remotely necessary. Most dungeons have one of these, they’re unoriginal and annoying.
4) Condition stacking so hard you’re forced to have some kind of “cleanse” ability at all times.
I haven’t run all the modes of all the dungeons yet, but the ones I have the most complaints about (and why) are as follows:
Twilight Arbor. The dungeon itself isn’t horrible, but those poison flowers are on a ridiculous respawn rate and can down a character in 2 seconds. These, on top of the already strong mobs, are pretty overbearing. Other than to be some kind of “difficulty filler” I don’t see why they respawn so fast. And they stack poison faster than should be possible.
Citadel of Flame. Ok so route 2 was too easy, and people were farming it like crazy, so I can see the need to tweak it. But the way it was tweaked was both unoriginal and unfun. The only part that didn’t need a buff got a huge one, and it wasn’t even a good one. The time it takes to set the bomb was greatly increased, and the guys seem to spawn more frequently. Really? Couldn’t think of anything better than just making it take longer? Worst fix ever.
Citadel of Flame path 1, is that even possible? I’m lead to believe that it wasn’t even play tested because the tiny window in which you have to light all the torches (seriously, it takes longer to channel the lighting than the timer gives you to light it) doesn’t mesh well with the fact that the mobs all spawn at different times, because killing every group of mobs at the SAME time is nearly impossible, because you can’t just sit there and tank a mob while you wait for your party members’ mobs to respawn so you can kill them all at once. Since that’s the only way to light all the torches at the same time. The mobs should spawn simultaneously, or have a lower respawn rate so the window in which your team can actually light the stupid things isn’t non existent. This was actually a decent idea otherwise, since I don’t remember seeing anything else like it.
The things you fight and have to do are pretty unimaginative, especially since it’s usually just the same things rehashed for every dungeon.
Wow people in this topic are being kittens. Arachnophobia is a hugely popular phobia, it’s not just a few people who have it. Being aquaphobic or claustrophobic has nothing to do with playing a videogame, so learn to at least mock people properly. Those two fears require you to physically be IN the thing you’re afraid of, where as just the sight of spiders can scare the crap out of people.
I know people who are arachnophobic, I’m one of them. The spiders in this game (aside from the black widow, and the undead ones) don’t feel as realistic as say, the ones in Diablo 3 did… I couldn’t do the spider cave in Diablo 3 without closing my eyes and hoping they died while i pressed all the buttons, or going in multiplayer to get my friends to kill them for me. However this game, they don’t bother me as much (except for the aforementioned breeds) but I can still see where those with severe arachnophobia are coming from.
No need to be kitten about it.
Having a reskin wouldn’t be a bad idea. I used the reskin option in Skyrim to make the spiders into mudcrabs. :P

Definitely a way to change your character’s look (at least hairstyle and colour)! Especially if there are more styles and colours added later on, for those of us who have had the game since the beginning who want to change our old level 80’s. :P
Just wondering, does anyone know what they actually look like? I was considering getting one for a while, but since the previews don’t show anything, I am not willing to spend the 63k karma on a mystery item.
Does anyone have one they could post a screenshot of? I’m mostly considering greatsword, sword, or staff. Barring that, I’ve had no luck doing searches online for pictures of it, but if someone knows where I could find it a link to it would be nice. Every picture I’ve found has been a picture of the preview, which shows nothing but the hilt.
1) They’re very different from the normal races you see in most games.
2) Their colour selections are awesome!
3) They glow (although I had no idea until after a few days or so of playing it lol)
4) I wanted to roll a Mesmer and thought the whole purple butterflies thing suited them best.
5) I like the idea that the character you made was just “born” into the world. It makes it easier to get into the character from a lore and roleplaying point of view. Any of the other races, you’re playing a random aged <insert race here> and you only get a vague back story on what your character is, or was, up until now.
I strongly agree with this, but for all races. I don’t really like many of the hairstyle options for any of them.. I like long hair with bangs in front, but pretty much all of the longer hairstyles have the hair pulled back into some stupid looking style.
As for sylvari, there were so many things they could have done with them, the possibilities are so open considering how many different types of plants (and even just trees) there are. To the person who said flowers were a bad idea: You must not get out much, there’s tons of different breeds of flowering trees. There’s also trees with berries, vines, etc.
While I don’t think its a “need to have” thing, because there are many other bug fixes in the works, it’s definitely something a lot of people would like to see (assuming they also add a stylist, because if everyone has filled their character slots and leveled up the characters already, there’s going to be a lot of sad people). Have to keep in mind that the design people and the bug fix people are probably different groups entirely, so having them work on them simultaneously isn’t that far fetched.
This isn’t really an account issue, but I’m not entirely sure where to put it.
It’s also not a huge deal, just a minor annoyance so I understand that there are other problems that need to be dealt with first. But – I figured I’d mention it anyway.
I’ve been getting spam mail from random people (most recently, “Veriane Odenheim” and “Assfhdgj”) spamming me about “pvpbank.com” and how you can buy GW2 Gold there. I haven’t checked out the site, nor do I want to.
Just figured I’d mention it in case it’s some dumb form of hacking accounts.
