Just landed on Shard IP: 64.25.33.87:0 while guesting Jade Quary and it is broken too, probably was generated after the bug was in place.
At least I can confirm the 2 guest per day limitation doesn’t exist anymore, even though the game still warns you so.
I can confirm Shard IP: 64.25.33.73:0 has been broken for a 2 days and couldn’t land on another shard even questing BG or TC (maybe because WvW just reset and they are all there).
I use a Razer Naga + a Razer Arctosa. Although it is pretty far from what you got, here are my 2 cents for binds while playing an Ele:
F1~F4 = Z,X,C,V (Easier to reach with your thumb)
1~5 = Stay the same
6~0 = Alt + 1~5
About Face: Q (I find this specially useful to aim Burning Retreat or to help escape faster preceding a Burning Speed or Lighting Speed)
Auto Run: Mouse 4
Dodge: Mouse 5 (I also use shift for this, but I might stop doing so)
Look Behind: Mouse 3 (a.k.a. Middle Mouse Click)
Interact: E
Nope, what you are seeing is 100% normal for this game.
And your HW is not the issue, btw. Its just how poorly coded the game’s Rendering Engine is.
The best thing you can do, is not run the game in ultra. And if possible drop the res down to 1600×900. Drop shadows to Low or off, Reflections to sky only, Character limit to Low.
Thanks for you fast reply!
I was realizing that just after I posted this, that the game might have some trouble with coding (or maybe the engine does’t relay many tasks to the GPU as it should and they rely on CPU clock).
I guess I will try to tweak down those settings and see how much can I gain in FPS from it, although I rather not lose that much of eye candy, but then again, Teq runs and WvW do not require that much of awesomeness (I might leave the character limit as it is in WvW though)…
Hey peoples!
I know my way around with computers and I know that my fps taking dives from 60 fps to lower 30s at the Vigil Headquarters is to blame on my CPU that can’t get keep up with my GPU and all that.
That is probably the very same reason on why a Tequatl run with TTS can plummet it even lower, about lower 20s and I even saw a packed Frozen Maw run get it below 10s.
That said, I would like to know if there is anything I could do to prevent that. I just build this machine 5 months ago and it seems it still can’t take on content that implies on rendering a lot of players without needing to lower the game settings or couple with the lower framerate.
WvW bigger fights still stay at about 35 and so – quite playable, but not that smooth.
Anyway to keep the 60 fps on Full HD without dweling into Intel eXtreme Rigs and quad-channelled RAM?
Here are my specs:
All GW2 settings are set on their max, except for Sample Sizing (set as Native) as I am not using a multiple display setup and the difference is minimal for the increased load times.
MB: Asus Sabertooth Z-87
Proc: Intel i7 4770 3.4 (non-K, although my MB allow OC and I might change that processor until Dec), Cores are already unparked.
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4×4, Dual-Channelled) @ 1600 MHz
Video-Card: EVGA GeForce GTX780 3GB GDDR5 w/ ACX cooling (not Superclocked and not OCed).
Display: Samsung 27" T27B350 (a medium range screen for a 2 years old product)
Windows 8.1 is running on a Sandisk Ultra Plus SSD (240GB).
Guild Wars 2 is running on a Samsung Evo 840 SSD (250GB), was previously on the Sandisk, moving it didn’t change a thing.
I also have an Intel 330 SSD (180GB) inside this baby.
All this run a Corsair TX-850M powersupply, as I plan to add another GTX780 for SLI before January.
All fits inside a Thermaltake Armor REVO Snow White, with all retail coolers up and running. The cables are uncluttered and the inside is clear of dust.
Everything is fully up-to-date, inclusing all MB Drivers, nVidia Driver and the OS.
The CPU never surpassed the 60°C, the GPU can’t get past 55°C on a hot day and it peaks at 55% usage, 45% mem usage while on GW2.
I once managed to get the GPU to hit the 70ish°C with a copy of Skyrim heavy modded towards realist graphics.

Oh I see! Thanks, Zelyhn! Cool that DEkeys updated her topic, I was following that too!
Well so I can only thank you for all you did for us Eles
Eh. I like diamond skin d/d, but I’ve been experimenting with s/d which is more midranged. You should check that out. General rules when starting (correct me if I’m wrong guys):
Try to keep arcana at 30 (attunement swapping is the most important part of our class)
Don’t attract the attention of the zerg/group (this goes for any squishy)
Use your positioning to your advantage.
Attunement swap as much as possible for benefits, but not for the sake of the benefits.
Don’t spam skills. You have to actually think of the benefit, make a rotation, but stay versatile. If you want an easy class, play warrior or ranger. If you want an extremely challenging class play Ele. This class is the furthest to ‘press x to win’, you really gotta put your all in, when you enter a fight.
I don’t think 6 points in Arcana is a must, that depends if you really need to go back to your starting attunement fast or if you can build a rotation with the 3 other that lasts enough until the first one is ready, more build oriented decision.
Eles are squishy when not build to last, but we can still hold a lot of Aggro and endure hits when build to Tank. Earth and Water work wonders in this, Specially with Stone Heart for PvP. An all around Ele should try to stay away from the AoEing mobs though.
Good Positioning (and flanking) as well as frequent attunement swap (with intelligence, not just random swapping) are indeed the keys to master. Button Smashing, as I said.
A good tip is to understand in what each element excels, Fire for AoE, Fire Fields, burning and raw power; Water for Support, Vulns (or chills, depending of your weapon), restoration and raw healing; Air for fast hitting, Crits, CC (with some stuns and disables, as well as some vulns); Earth for defense, tank-like thoughness, protection and Bleeding.
Utilities aren’t made to burst damage at all (maybe some, but it is hard to pull out), they are made to support your roles and you will switch them constantly, depending on what you are facing and if you need to tank, range, meelee or support, even if your main weapon and armor stay the same.
Glyphs change their effects with the selected attunement when their cast time finishes, use this in your advantage.
Cantrips provide usefull protection (and one of them had 15 seconds removed from its cooldown with the feature patch). Combined with the right traits, they can make you last longer, specially if you pop them at the right time.
Each conjure has its way to be used, get to know them.
One last note: With almost all channeled skills (like Dagger Water 2), you are able to swtich attunements without breaking the channel, meaning you can get the bonuses from other attunements than the one you cast the skill with.
Hey there, I am Zelyhn. I am using a friend’s account because my main account has been permanently banned from these forums.
Unless the moderators un-blacklist my email and allow me to appeal, at least, then there is no chance that I will be able to update my thread.
This is a shame because the feature patch brought about a lot of interesting changes. Maybe in the future I will start this thread anew.
Both things would be nice: If ANet allowed you to appeal or if you could restart this Thread as a new one, many things might have changed with the balace changes and whatnot…
Just one quick question: What I am using today is very close to your full zerker build. As mentioned before, I can maintain a lot of might stacks while soloing some content. Do you think I should get a Strength rune set instead of those Rubys on armor?
@OP I was feeling like I had bad luck when I first picked the Ele as my Main, back in 2012.
I struggled with Staff PvE a lot, got wasted on every fractal run I tried and couldn’t do squat on WvW and sPvP. the only thing nice was the fact that I loved the animations, but usually sat on fire and spammed 1, 2 and occasionally 5.
Then I read some builds on this forum and found a great one based on the Fresh Air trait, D/F.
while that was a great discovery for PvE, it opened my eyes as to HOW the Ele class is to played. We have 20 weapon skills at our hands all the time, we should USE them all to their extent.
Eles are the hardest class to master (next to Engi, I guess), for we are so much versatile… The utilities might sound weak and slow, but they account as game changers if used correctly.
We are jacks of all trades and can fit different positions in a team without having to respec traits or trade half our equipment.
The first secret to master is the button smashing, you WILL have to press 10+ buttons in order to pull something out. It is hard, but fun when you manage it.
Position and best uses of our skills makes the most. The thing is Eles are so flexible they look weak and frail, hard to understand how to grow when we hit for 1/3 the thiefs and heal for 3/4 the guardians, cant debuff as mesmers or necros and cant support as banner warriors… But once you get your button smash going, you will be able to overcome all this.
For PvE, I am using D/F, Fresh Air build. Lots of burns, criticals, fury and might. It works great on mobs, as their behavior is scripted and their defenses and offenses are known. This won’t work on WvW or sPvP.
I am inclined to Staff, Aquatic Benevolence for full healing in the sPvP and WvW matches, but that require a lot of play skill and an organized team. This healing build is not usefull for PvE, as large groups smacking a boss can maintain theirselves, but it might work great in the hardest dungeons, as a support role, for it has great boon generation and decent condition maintainance.
Never mind the armor costs, when you find proper stats you still need 1-4 copies of the sets for different runes, some of which costs 6×8g for the set.
Try 6×10.5 for the new Strength Runes, which skyrocketed from 2.5 to 11g in mere 2 days.
I loved this article the time I laid my eyes on it a few months ago.
I have been as a D/F zerker for a while and, while I do get downed a lot (as this is a Glass Cannon Build), it worked great to help me improve my awareness and timings as to the telegraphs the enemies have.
I have been playing around with the new changes, including our new Dagger Water 3 Blast Finisher and some of the new traits, been also considering balancing out some zerkers for celestials or even replacing the rubys / Scholar for the new Strength Runeset, for now I can easily maintain 16 might stacks (and peak at 25 stacks for a few seconds, if my sigils proc right and the mob has enough HP to withstand a full rotation).
So, TL;DR, this is a “thank you very much” post, as this topic helped me a lot to understand the mechanics of my favorite class.
Also, I am eager to see this updated to the April Feature Patch. I got myself some reasoning and how to work the changes better, but I still lack the funds and the math skills to check it all out…
Thanks for bringing this up. This is definitely a bug. Now that we know about this we will try and get it fixed soon™.
You are using the wrong trademark, that’s what blizzard states.
ArenaNet states “When it’s ready”
Soon™ has been used by NcSoft West for a while, specially when we were waiting for the Lineage 2: Goddess of Destruction update for a whole year with the Admins Sooning™ us…
I guess ANet just got their license from their mothercompany
Core issues were left unfixed for a long time it doesn’t shock me people would want to leave. Silence is all you can really do as a company because if you miss the deadline or it has to be pushed back nothing can save you from the wrath of your player-base. Also you have to have things cleared with marketing and management before you can really disclose information and not all things are finalized. I personally wasn’t impressed with living world i think i only really enjoyed the SAB and gauntlet.
Gw2 still has the best combat/art in the industry the only thing that looks better imo is Blade and Soul which is another ncsoft title.
Kinda off-topic, but just wanted to point out that GW2 isn’t a NCSoft Title. NCSoft NA Publishes it on the ocidental world, but they have no call on the Art or the game mechanics (i.e. They have no call on development decision and tasks, that’s all on ANet).
Also, Blade and Soul is developed by NCSoft KR, which, apart from being a mother company to NCSoft NA, doesn’t necessary work together with it.
Players from Lineage 2 know what I mean, as with things gets implemented on the Korean servers but take months to be localized and, sometimes, are split into multiple patches, while all suggestions from ocidental markets are just ignored.

Yay for first post in the forums!
Being an IT worker and a security obcessed myself, allow me to add my 2 cents.
When I contacted support 3 days ago about an item issue, I had to provide full name, DoB and even my CD-Key to prove I was myself.
Then you would say your hacker hadn’t.
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine who hadn’t been playing for about 8 months (and forgot his password), tried to regain access to his account.
He had lost his CD-Key since then, so he had to provide his full name, DoB, email and a hell of other information, including Characters names and full account name (the Name.#### thing).
I find it hard for some one to change your email without having access to your own email, which inplies you didn’t take enough care about your email account and that doesn’t rest on ANet shoulders.
If your problem was with your playNC account and how it gives you full access to its underling GW1 and GW2 accounts, then ANet isn’t to blame either.
Bear with me: NCSoft is the publisher for this game, ANet develops and maintain it. This means ANet is accounted for the game itself and, as far as the game’s account system is concerned, I find it very secure.
The problem rests on NCSoft being a part of this.
You see, I’ve played Lineage 2 for a couple of years, back when it was a monthly sub game. NCSoft NA exceeded on Customer Service back then and no one had problems that didn’t involved a lack of personal security.
Then they flipped their switches and began investing on F2P (more like Pay2Win) for their homemade games (that would be Aion, Lineage 1 and 2 etc.)
This playNC master account was part of this and a huge mistake on itself. Their system has low security on default and didn’t enforced security questions and the like for older players.
NCSoft NA is today but a shadow of what it was. Lineage 2 went downhill, community-wise, especially after the Korean Devs made design decisions that weren’t that great for an NA and EU market.
They manage your playNC account and your GW accounts being linked to that is part of the NCSoft – ANet agreement over the title.
TL;DR: Blame NCSoft for having your playNC account hacked, ANet has nothing to do with it. Watch your email, as most services doesn’t allow email changes without confirmation through the former address. And, of course, steer away from shady 3rd party software and webpages.
Point being, if your account has been “hacked” and there is no surge of players fallen victim of the same thing, it is all on you, for you might (knownly or not) have failed on your personal security.
Also, keep calm and respectful, as I am trying to help and people tend to become angry on forums towards those who go against them.
