The class they left behind

I personally think Engineers aren’t so bad at all. They are a lot of fun and can be used in various ways in non-high rated matches (let’s be honest, most of us aren’t playing at the level of the top 5 %).

Compared with Elementalists they are actually very strong if you ask me…

On top of that Engineers are just a lot of fun and not overplayed like other professions ^^

Staff Buff in the Future

I honestly hope they don’t buff the staff.. We all know how it will end.. They will “bugfix” it after a couple of weeks leaving staff in a horrible state.

Staff is currently a valid option in PvE, Dungeons & WvW. Any buff they might add will make it way to powerful in the WvW department and causing it to get nerfed, I mean bugfixed, after a couple of weeks.

After that we are stuck with S/D.

I think only glass cannon ele is somewhat viable. Get your burst rotation right, this needs lot of practise. Work on you timing and positioning. Also make sure that you have proper build and equipment.

This is sadly a naive comment. Even when you get your burst rotation entirely correct you will never manage to kill anyone who has the same skill level as you. Ever.

To get hit by an entire Elementalist S/D rotation it requires you to be absolutely blind and stand in everything. One dodge roll saves you 60 % of our “burst” damage. After that one dodge roll we have no longer any long term damage and become a fly which can be smashed (especially when berserker) in a few second.

Don’t play an Elementalist in sPvP. Really, don’t.

The entire use of the class is based around doing everything less well then other classes but at the same time do nothing else. So you can decide to become bursty (S/D) but end up with no sustainable damage or defensive skills. Which sounds a fair trade if it weren’t for the fact that other professions do a higher burst while maintaining more sustainable damage.

Don’t even bother with the class if you want to feel any kind of rewarding gameplay. If anyone you meet has the same skill-level as you have there are 2 options :
1. You lose
2. You run away.

This is genuinely true, I hope -anyone- can show me -any- example of where a skilled Elementalist beats a skilled /insert anything/. The class design does not allow this.

Potential Buffs, according to Jon Peters

So let me get this straight. Elementalists have one weapon which currently does overall quite well and that is what they are buffing … So staff gets buffed, becomes overpowered in WvW, gets nerfed into the ground (or “bugfixed”) and as a result we are no longer in demand in high level fractals/WvW.

Sigh.

Even though he is talking about sPvP, we -all- know the buffs will also have an effect outside sPvP. Considering staff is doing very well in other areas it will probably get overbuffed and leave us with only 1 good build for pve left (Might stacking… As far as that is worthy of a name “build”).

This is plain stupid… Somehow they find our fully buffed (25 might, food, berseker gear) 8-9k autoattacks on a ELITE skill too high. Yet they give higher damage -passive- to warriors….

“Bug Fix” or “Nerf” -> It’s exactly the same. Only Anet’s intention is different; yet I never saw anyone whine about conjured weapon DPS to be to high… So they unneccesarly “fixed” something and caused it to be broken as a consequence.

Screw this, I’m out of here.

So you remembered what your damage numbers were before the 3rd, after the recent patch, and you found that there was actually a decrease in damage from August 20th’s live version to September 4th’s live version? You did do that before complaining…right? Or no? Did you just read something and complain because it said “reduced” and “elementalist” in the same bullet point?

Yup even though it seems in Patch Notes like their is no decrease in actual damage (since 2 days ago for example). Greatsword actually deals a -lot- less damage on me. Either I’m hallucinating, which is entirely possible, or it is actually decreased. Anyone can actually conform with some real numbers that the damage did not decrease?

Regretting weapon switch?

And now that they “bugfixed” our conjured weapons we don’t even have to decide which utilities or elite skill to use anymore! Aren’t we blessed =’)!

I think this is a rather unfair comment. Yes the level doesn’t mean everything. But let’s not forget what a level stands for : games played.

But ranks shows you only sPvP experience (or just time spent, and cannot be discerned from HotJoins). Players can be coming from a plethora of WvW experience (like myself) or simply PvE experience where they have learned their class. The majority of the work necessary in PvP is team work and communication aside from personal player skill/experience.

If you start grouping based on player ranks rather than ELO/MMR, you start to group people on completely arbitrary metrics, metrics that can be farmed in CA deathmatches. And then what? Do I have to be rank X to play with rank Xs or Ys? Why?

If a match in SoloQ is lost, its not usually as matter of rank, its a matter of people just having their thumbs up their kitten and playing as if they were the greatest players eva! that could solo everything (ie. hotjoin heroes).

This is a valid point indeed.

Perhaps the focus I’ve had was too much on levels. Yet what I’m wondering is how is this current system creating even matchmakings? Even when you disregard the giant level differences at times, at least in my experiene a lot of the games are get steamrolled or steamroll the other team. This can be because I’m still low on the ladder ofcourse. Is this not a problem on higher levels? Aka; does the system start to do it’s job on higher levels?

For me it’s currently ruining the fun of PvP due to lackluster game balancing.

I am rank 13, and ranked 636th in SoloQ.

I get constantly matched up with people from 50s to 10s to 1s, the number next to a person’s name is almost next to irrelevant unless its literally a 1.

I think this is a rather unfair comment. Yes the level doesn’t mean everything. But let’s not forget what a level stands for : games played.

Skills is in essence nothing else then experience, a lot of experience. In the strong majority of the cases a higher level will equal a higher skill level. The fact that you are doing well in solo queue is great but I hope you can also admitt that you are not the rule, you are the exception. People with higher levels tend to have a lot more experience and should be a lot better then people with a lower level. Especially when the level difference is showing a 1/20 ratio in games played.

Good evening

Yes, there will be a fair amount of raging, dissapointment and sadness in this topic. If you prefer to not read this please click “Back” in the top left corner and save yourself some time!

Right, let’s get to it: I am getting -sick- of tournament balancing system (Solo queue since that is what I’m experienced with).

What is the problem, you might ask? Well it’s the constant unfair matchmaking. I’m currently a level 16(PvP) Elementalist trying to improve his skills in tournament since hotjoin no longer provides the necessary challenge.

When I win a match versus people of my own level I suddenly get matched up vs a level 44/48/52/26. After we obviously lost that as a bunch of level 15-25’s I decide to give it another try and sign up for another game; this time I get matched up versus 4 people with “Champion X” title and all above level 30.

This kind of stuff has repeated itself for the last couple of weeks until I got so sick of it I decided to make a forum post about it.

I’m wondering how the rating system somehow seems to think that because I win versus people of my own skill level I should suddenly start playing versus people with 10x the games played. There is no learning and improving in these kind of games. You get obliterated because they obviously know all your skills and you don’t even have a clue what they all have.

The purpose of this thread is simple (if you disregard the raging bit); why does the system do this? Is this Anet’s intention ? And have any of you experienced this kind of unfair matchmaking too and how often?

Thanks for reading!

EDIT: Please do not invoke a whole discussion if wheter or not levels = skill. It is a fact that skill is nothing more then experience and dedication. Higher levels mean higher games played and should in the majority of the cases mean that the higher level player has a higher skill level. There are exceptions but please do not ruin the question of the thread by invoking a dicussion about how much correlation there is between skill/level in the minority of the cases.

Important!

I had the same issue and I tried everything including:
- Restart pc, client, clientport 80
- Modem and router restart
- Using a high quality, payed VPN to switch IP adresses to other location

NOTHING worked.

What -DID- work was disabling “Avast Shields” – If you still have this issue, try disabling your antivirus! I disabled mine and literally the same moment I could login without any issues!

Please report if this solved your issue so the devs can look into the problem!

Why don't we have an LFG tool yet?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Lycus.2834

I’m happpy there isn’t.

SNIP

I personally hope there will never come a LFG tool like the one in WoW. The tool we have at this moment (GW2LFG.com) is perfect for it.

So, you don’t want to have something in game because you have that thing outside the game. And you will be upset if they ever take that thing you use outside the game and put it in the game instead. That is not only the stupidest thing I’ve seen on these forums, but it is self-centered, self-serving, and blatantly sadistic. You are not going to be selected as the answer to my question. Sorry.

I think you either misunderstood what I was trying to say, or I explained it incorrectly; let me have another go at what I am trying to say:

Well what I’m trying to say is that I hope they will never create a WoW-like LFG tool (aka click the start button and get teleported into it without speaking to anyone) because it is plainly destructive for the community. I could be mistaken here but there but I haven’t had this kind of friendly people in dungeons since the beginning of WoW (vanilla) and I’m affraid that when you make the system anonymous it will encourage being a “kittenbag” because none can stop you from joining a team when it’s all automated.

Ofcourse the LFG-website could be implemented in GW2 if it remains a listing-feature without creating the actual groups. But most of the time LFG-tools in current generation games tend to be completely automated, which is according to me, a rather bad improvement.

Hell, I’m as new to this game as you can be and I have no clue whatsoever if and when a LFG might come. This is just my modest opinion ;-)!

PS: I think it takes a rather giant leap to go from a “I hope they don’t automate LFG” to having a “self-centered, self-serving, and blatantly sadistic” opinion.. You might want to reduce the drama there.

I’m not against LFG-tools themselves, it’s would be great to have the idea of the website implemented in the game; I think it would horrible to have an automated LFG implemented. That’s the key point I’m trying to make, and considering your signature I assumed you are looking for the WoW-like LFG tool, not the simple listing feature.

I’m happpy there isn’t.

LFG Tools make the game a menu-based game. At this moment you still have to convince people to join your group or get invited to a group by whispering people. It’s a hassle but it’s also something that keeps the game social.

I can’t even begin to describle how baffled I am when I see a “sorry” each time a group is full and I asked to join it. It’s amazing how polite the community still is because people know that your name still matters and that you don’t get far by being a kittenbag.

I personally hope there will never come a LFG tool like the one in WoW. The tool we have at this moment (GW2LFG.com) is perfect for it. You can find people easily without having to spam, but on the other hand people learn to know eachother by names and you don’t get stuck in a menu-based game.
