The same thing happened to me right now: I received 3 crafting boosters just after logging in, and was deducted 450 gems.

I’ve started a topic called Let’s Find Out Waypoint Costs in the Players Helping Players forum. If you could contribute, I think it would allow us to get a better overview on waypoint costs!

It would give us a better impression on how travel costs progress through the levels! Thanks for your help!
Does anyone already have some way to approximate waypoint costs based on level? If not, I think it would be not so hard to find that out together! It would make it easier to judge when it is better to explore lower level areas to when one can safely level without raising travel costs too much.
To keep it simple, I have measured this for three distances:
- In place: Stand on a (non-city) waypoint, cost to teleport to the same one
- Lion’s Arch to Hoelbrak: Gate Hub Plaza Waypoint to Peeta’s Waypoint
- Lion’s Arch to Rata Sum: Gate Hub Plaza Waypoint to Magustan Court Waypoint
Level 2: 4, 9, 20
Level 3: 5, 11, 25
Level 4: 5, 13, 29
Level 9: 9, 21, 45
Level 12: 9, 21, 70
Level 80: 139, 195, 305
(all costs are in copper, 100 copper = 1 silver)
What is missing right now are values especially for the mid levels! But I think any missing level or any correction would help at this point. Can anyone contribute further values? Maybe we even find the formula that is used to calculate those costs together. I’ll update this original post with any findings. Thanks
I logged in today and waypoint prices are much higher that they were yesterday. Going from Divinity’s to LA is like over a silver now
I spend most of the morning walking to asuran gates for travel instead of using waypoints. I feel that the game has slowed down for me…and I feel penalized for using the waypoints. I don’t mind a few coppers to bounce around and help guildies, go to an area I left off exploring to continue there…but I just don’t have the coin to bounce around now. SAD FACE! If we can go back to the pricing yesterday (the 7th) I could jump right back in. I’m done for today
The waypoint cost increases based on your level!
So by level 80, helping friends is indeed a costly thing to do…
I know its not a bug, but at this point, it sure feels like one.
I agree that it is a big issue as it actually takes some of the fun from the game, since it
- discourages helping lower-level friends when not within roughly the same levels
- penalizes exploring lower-level content after having reached higher levels
Gold sinks are needed, but I feel that having a gold sink that affects the social aspects of the game so deeply is something that should at least be thought about.
