You should delete the bottom tier servers and give them free transfers. You have exactly the same problem of stacking as before just on fewer worlds now. Highest population server wins guaranteed. Yes, the wvw population is higher now but that happens after every shake up and it will die down again. However old problems are now MUCH worse.

Spying is just a joke right now. I’m on piken, Desolation knows when a com tags up instantly and moves to that map. The other day, our commander Dc’d, and 10 seconds later the Deso com whispered him saying “I heard you DC’d”.
This makes organising suprise attacks on objectives impossible, and that is the only way we can take anything due to 24/7 deso map blobs. They have 500 tick all night every night due to vabbi bandwagoning giving them practically double the player pool that we have. We were formerly number 1 server until the linking now we are just facerolled constantly outside of prime time. When the number 1 server/s win easily by hundreds of thousands of points every matchup without even trying you know your system is unfair and easily exploitable

Dishonour for blue screen

As posted above they can’t tell your exact reason for disconnecting. You are going to need to get down and solve your blue screening problem. Out of curiosity, have you solved many bsod before?

My Pc is overclocked and so slightly more unstable. My cooling is not the greatest combined with the fact that it’s summer now. So with the overheating, dust build up and the fact that i need to free up hard drive space means it increases the chance of blue screen. These are all things I can fix or at least alleviate.
I didn’t blue screen once last season but the fact that it’s happened twice now means i need to seriously address it.
I just don’t like having “abandoned” on my record or my team mates being punished for something that isn’t their fault. Everyone has had someone DC on their team and you usually don’t lose pips for it so it seems they can tell what is a genuine disconnect.

Dishonour for blue screen

Okay so my PC occasionally blue screens. Yes i need to do a thorough dust clean and free up some memory space but so far in season 3 of pvp i have blue screened twice and both times I and my team still lose pips and i get dishonour for ten minutes. The log records as “abandoned” the match. I don’t know Anet’s policy towards blue screens, and if they see it as different from a DC and still want me and my team to lose pips then that’s one thing, but don’t give me dishonour and prevent me from playing while i serve a ban for abandonment.
Maybe they can’t tell the difference between a blue screen and ALT F4 but i am an honourable person! i never abandon a fight gawkitten!

You Should Apologize for Season 1

I don’t get how the match making can be so messed up, it hard punishes casual and solo players. I never really played pvp seriously or consistently until this season and i managed to get to within 5pips of legend solo queue only, on a scrapper only. When i got to diamond i had a 9 match winning streak and then when i was close to legend obviously i had to have a 9 match losing streak. This came with 3 games that were 2 pip loses because of trash premades. (i never gained 2 pips when the situation was reversed) player skill aside though, you will often lose a match because of terrible players on your team, then next match you will be given those EXACT same terrible players to make sure you lose again.
Then ofc you have dc’s, AFKers, team balance etc.
Anet seriously needs to consider why it is punishing so heavily those that play the game the most fairly.

Easy changes to desert borderland

It seems there are a lot of changes in the works for wvw in general. Scoring/servers/fights/rewards/upgrades/titles/map rotation. I can’t be more specific, but from what I heard, i like most of the proposed ideas and think they will address a lot of the issues in wvw.

However i haven’t heard anything about changes to the actual desert borderlands themselves which i think is sorely needed. Obviously a lot of time was spent designing them so extreme changes are unlikely but there are some relatively simple changes that can be easily implemented. Here are my suggestions.

-Remove barricades
The barricades that block routes when you own the adjacent tower can be easily broken by a zerg in seconds, however it does punish roamers and small groups forcing them to go around. going on marathon runs is boring, especially solo and is so disheartening to run 5 minutes to take a camp only to find it has already flipped by the time you get there. You can replace it with something like a zerg detector that reveals 10 or more players on the map, so if a zerg wants to move undetected they have to go the long way around but don’t punish roamers and small groups.

-Remove laser central event
Again this is simply biggest zerg wins. it’s a cheap gimmick. it causes massive lag. it’s really buggy.

-Remove all shrines and their effects
I don’t want unfair buffs. I want to know i won the fight because i played better, or my team was more organized or utilized the terrain better. I don’t like any of the pve effects, they are simply annoying and add nothing to the gameplay. I was trying to defend garrison and was running supplies to repair the gate to stop more attackers from entering, when suddenly an earth wall popped up and boxed me into a corner, trapping me there so i couldn’t move anywhere. We owned the earth shrines, they were supposed to be helping my team yet they directly hindered me. The only buffs i find acceptable are ones to mobility or movement speed or ones that help upgrades. Nothing that gives you a fight advantage.

-Bring back manual upgrades
If night cappers have flipped an entire bl, they can immediately leave knowing that things will likely get to t3 until the morning crew arrives. They don’t have to leave anyone on the bl to implement the upgrades it will happen automatically. It’s too much reward for too little effort.

I feel these points can be easily implemented without major work and could help relieve the laborious inaccessibility many players feel towards the desert bl.

ps. before people start the usual knee jerk i’m offended because he has a different opinion to me and start making random assumptions crap…

I have played dozens of hours on the desert map in every possible scenario. I’ve been on the winning server, the losing server, i’ve been in blobs on full maps, i ‘ve been on outmanned maps, i ’ve been roaming solo and in small groups. I’ve tried scouting and running dollies. In every one of these scenarios I do not enjoy the desert map. My guild and friends list, which is 95% wvw players is now mostly empty compared to pre h.o.t while eternal battlegrounds is normally full. You cannot logically deny that the desert borderlands are unpopular among wvw players.

I used to play 95% in WVW not including afk in la. It would have been more if i could get optimum gear there. I have played all the content in the game but WVW was the only thing i was continuing to play the game for. I find no replay value in pve whatsoever. I play a bit of Pvp, but find it repetitive and small scale after 4 or 5 games. For me the h.o.t changes ruined wvw, it had plenty of faults before but was made much much worse.
I really hate when people post assuming that others have simply not learned the map, or would feel better with fuller servers. I have played dozens of hours on the new maps, in zergs with full maps, in small groups and extensively as a roamer. I don’t like the new maps or the new wvw mechanics. I wanted to like it. I didn’t.
Added to the fact that Anet constantly ignores the wvw community and instead of improving on the game mode have made it worse. Something that could have been easily avoided simply by listening.
Given all these things I have pretty much left wvw and therefore pretty much left the game.

It’s funny people saying wvw is empty because everyone is doing pve and then getting kitten because someone has a contrary opinion to theirs. Many people are doing pve because the new bl is making wvw so boring. Many like myself have exhausted the pve content, got their elite specs and still dont want to play the new map. I will go on the desert map while queuing for EB but often find myself logging from boredom before the q pops. The fact that wvw players have been saying for years what they want and are constantly ignored just adds to the bitter feeling. My guild used to run about 20-30 ppl on a raid but now is more like 10-15 as there is constantly a Q on EB. We had wvw players come back to the game for expansion than instantly leave again after playing the map.

wvw: we dont want pve in wvw
Anet: have a map full of pve and gimmicks.

wvw: we want things orientated around fights
Anet: have a map where it takes ages to find anyone to fight due to map design and the removal of wp

wvw: we want a role for everyone
Anet: have a map where roamers have to run a marathon to find anyone to fight/reach a camp and takes ages to solo a tower/keep so that higher pop servers always win. we removed most the wp so scout reports are mostly worthless as no one can reach the objective in time.

wvw: can you address the issue of off peak play and night capping?
Anet: sure, we’ll make upgrades automatic so the ppl logging in the morning will have full upgraded t3 stuff to try and flip giving an even greater advantage to night capping.

wvw: can we get GVGs?
anet: sure we’ll give u guild halls with arenas slightly too small to hold optimum gvgs

wvw: can you design a map which incentivizes less blobbing?
Anet: have a map where blobbing is by far the best way to get anything done

wvw: can we have better rewards?
anet: no

Beta Weekend Scrapper Feedback Thread

Played only scrapper the entire beta WE in all game modes and overall immensely enjoyed it. I agree with a lot of the bugs and niggles already posted so i will try not to repeat those too much.

Hammer:
I echo the stuff about hammer #3 being erratic and the slowness of the #2 and #4

Superspeed:
This seriously needs to stack, i don’t want to pop my slick shoes ss stun break and then swap to tool kit to have my 5seconds ss be overwritten by the 2seconds ss from tool kit with streamlined kits trait.

Gyros:
far too weak to bother using. Die too quickly and cant stay on you. remove all AI from it and have them orbit the character in a 180 radius. I already stated that they should not be affected by ground pulsing skills (as most of them never touch the ground) and should be immune to bleed and poison (since they are machines). That’s before you start thinking about buffing health/toughness etc. Stuff like that, that makes no sense really bugs me.

Stability:
Scrapper is melee. It NEEDS PROPER STAB. Reactive stability that is tied to a stun break. Even necros have this. Stabilization core is so situational and underwhelming i don’t know why anyone would take this trait. Perfectly weighted is decent, though again is quite situational and when compared to adaptive armor in the majority of cases is vastly inferior. Juggernaut ties you to firearms and FT. Toss elixir B is ok, but again is proactive not reactive, requires you to aim it on yourself and is susceptible to reflects and interrupts.
Rework stabilization core as a proper non situational stab trait or give one of the gyros stab/stun break.

Those are my main issues but aside from that i really like scrapper. Thunderclap is my new favourite skill XD

The fact that something mechanical can be inflicted with something like bleed or poison is beyond stupid. How exactly do you poison something that has no living tissue? How do you make something bleed that has no blood? The phrase “trying to get blood from a stone” springs to mind.
They mad this change in the name of “balance” and yet wvw seige, gates and walls are not affected by condis so get this fat kid off my see saw.
It makes about as much sense as freezing fire or seeing hadoukens from Blanka.

While we’re at it none of the gyros with the exception of the shredder ever touch the ground so logically shouldn’t be affected by ground targeted skills such as wells, marks, traps or symbols. (things like meteor shower rain from the sky so makes sense that they would hit). People jump dodge ground pulsing aoe to avoid damage so something that can fly should take no damage.
Also the fact that they are so small and are constantly whizzing around (again shredder excepted) means that a higher percentage of physical attacks should be glancing blows.

These are things that should be so from the way they currently behave and function without even getting to the stuff that needs to be changed or buffed.

So after playing the beta weekend I had a bit of fun running around verdant brink on the new specializations (even though most the events were bugged for me so couldn’t be completed). I then turned my attention to competitive gameplay which is what i spend most my time on in this game and was quite disappointed in how much of the new specs you could viably use in wvw and pvp. I Know it is early days in terms of numbers and stuff but i find the majority of skill usage is not conducive to these game modes.

My main gripe is that the new specs are not better or even a viable alternative to the current meta and found myself using maybe one of either the new weaps/skills/trait lines and in no instance all three. For example on chronomancer, in a wvw zerg situation the wells are no comparison for the utility of the glamour skills, the sheild has nothing on focus pull or torch survivability and the trait line offers little in the way of group support. For roaming I ended up using the same shatter build s/t and gs and just the chrono trait line for the movement speed (so i didn’t have to run traveler runes) and the quickness on shatter so i could quickly switch to s#2 in quickness and burst people down. Usual utilities again as wells are nowhere near good enough to replace blink and decoy on your bar. The continuum split was not particularly useful in wvw though i could see it having a place in pvp.

Tempest i found added nothing over existing ele specs in any game mode. (though ele’s are already in a good place in all game modes so that’s balance i guess.)

Much has already been said about how reaper gs is not as good as dagger MH in terms of dps or LF gain and i would echo that and add that dagger would allow you to trait for more movement speed and have say a focus OH for more chill if you were specing for that. The reaper shroud is really fun but wells are still a must for wvw and the shouts are quite underwhelming in general.

Dragon hunter is probably the most viable in competitive play at this time,traps were actually useful in pvp but i found the best way was to start arming the trap then judges intervention onto the enemy and do a gs burst. again using more of a hybrid build rather than the full elite spec. i think it will be interesting to see stealth guardians in wvw on trapper runes though.

Obviously i didn’t have time to fully explore all aspects of all the new elite specs in all game modes but these were my findings from what i played. My fear is that i want the elite specs to actually have a strong use in competitive play and not be just for show so i am slightly worried for the upcoming elite specs. It seems that the elite specs are most underwhelming in wvw but i guess i should be used to anet not caring about that game mode by now.

Magnet pull doesn’t work properly for me.
probably 80% of the time it doesn’t pull the target to me. (I am not counting Foes with stability, invulnerability or evade etc, or those that use a stun break)
Sometimes they just fall over where they are, sometimes they are pulled halfway to me and sometimes three quarters. Sometimes when they get pulled halfway, i will move to them and use pry bar only to find they actually were pulled to my position, it just didn’t show on my game until later. It acts like the skill is lagging but it is only on that skill and no other. It’s a really random weird bug that messes up my entire rotation.
I also tested it in wvw on a moa and it said immune! worked on raptors but moa OP apparently.

Rifle Barrels?

Not only did they say rifle range would be increased but pistol as well. Neither of them are, in addition they said the pistol auto attack would be an “explosion”, triggering traits from the explosives trait line. It’s not.
Meanwhile they decided to move ranger back from 1200 to 1500 range.
REALLY ANET?
They actually increased most class’s range weapons as default except engi, but wait you have mortar kit that hits 1500 range! but we’ll make it move at 2 miles an hour and immediately nerf the dmg by 28%. At the same time as not buffing engi range in line with other classes we’ll nerf your movement and dmg negation through access to vigor.
And they give rangers 1500 range, increased attack speed and piercing arrows so rapid shot hits 5 people now, not to mention ele’s burn stacking.
Hammer spec better be kitten good is all i can say.

Engi specialization is signets?

I don’t think/want the new engi specialization to be any existing class skill. Reason being that engi is supposed to be a unique class and none of the current skills are on any other class. Kits, gadgets, elixirs, turrets are all unique to the engi and i would like the specialization to follow suit.
Having seen the drones, i would guess the utility would be something similar to stances with the toolbelt drones being similar to spirit weaps or vice versa.

I want to see a tanky engi that can hang in a wvw melee line with stability. Give us stab! (toss elixir B is not good enough, and the new FT stab trait is in firearms which is mainly condi based stuff)

This is a spinoff of the economy thread to talk about RNG tactics in games in a general form.
Here’s the premise. RNG is evenly distributed on aggregate. On an individual level this means that while almost everyone falls into a reasonable range in the middle, there are outliers on each side of the distribution that are either highly rewarded or not rewarded at all. These individuals become sample cases and spotlights for experiences that maybe shouldn’t exist.

Just swap the lucky accounts with the unlucky ones.

No such thing as a lucky or unlucky account (as in everyone has an equal chance of being one or the other and this likelihood is not tied to anything hidden attributes pertaining to your account)

Highly rewarded= Lucky account
Not rewarded at all= Unlucky account

That is why i suggested swapping these “outliers” around so the unlucky ones know what its like to actually get stuff and are not so frustrated that they leave the game as many already have. The lucky ones have had enough loot already.

If you think everyone has an equal chance to get good loot you are either incredibly naive or you don’t play the game much.

WvW-focused beta testing announced!!

They definitely need roamers in this test as they are the ones most likely to find holes (literally) in the map. We all know about times when players got under the map and popped up again inside keeps and towers and were invulnerable to attacks, as well as numerous exploits, blink and shadow step spots etc. This kind of thing ruins the game for me. The trouble is if it goes on hours in WVW then it is likely to be all zerg drones.
The other thing that worries me is the lag on this new BL. I sometimes have lag so bad that i can’t even get out of spawn, let alone go through a portal or use a skill so given that the new BL has more stuff in it than the existing one, i seriously hope they have addressed the lag.

Really annoying how people are trying to make out like everyone has a fair chance at a beta key.
About 7-8 people in my guild have dropped beta keys. Most of them have more than 1 key, one guy has 4. Most of them have already dropped one or multiple precursors in the past. Myself and others in the guild have spent double, triple or even quadruple the time as them farming and dropped nothing. Most of them were not signed up to the newsletter beforehand and they still got drops.
Some people say they are on lucky accounts like that’s fine. Why are there even lucky accounts at all? Why design the game like that? These people don’t even have to grind because they are so rich from drops.
Yeah I am ranting a bit but I hate unnecessary unfairness. After 35hours of farming and not dropping a key, and over 5 thousand hours in the game and not dropped a single thing worth over 10 gold, i am getting annoyed.

Gandara was never in a Bronze league position, get your facts straight. This is of course the precise point, since we ended up as the only international Silver league server with free transfers. That and we already had a strong community with two WvW guilds confirming that they would move before free transfers were announced, though I suppose Anet had no way of knowing that.

My bad, i was told by someone gandara were in bronze league and took them at their word. However the fact that they got free transfers from silver league is even more ridiculously unfair

The decision from anet to give certain servers free transfers prior to the start of wvw season 2 has completely ruined the season for those servers that did not recieve the free transfers. What exactly is the point of trying to build a strong server community and recruit players/guilds to your server if it is rendered useless by servers having free transfers. Why would anyone pay 80+ gold to transfer to your server if they could go to another one for free?
I assume arenanet thought they would strengthen some of the lower ranked wvw servers through this decision but in actual fact they decided the result of wvw seasons the moment they made it.
Take Gandara for example, they were in Bronze league, and then after the mass exodus to that server through free transfers they are now top of silver and soon to be in gold. Fighting them outside of prime time hours is near impossible when you constantly have outmanned buff.
