Let's unite for a Mac OS X native client

DonQ, actually the Mac Beta Client is the Windows client started by a wrapper named Cider. So of course “both” clients were updated. As far as I can see the wrapper wasn’t updated with this patch.

Full System Freeze

Are you able to get into the task manager via CMD + ALT + ESC? Have you tried to switch workspaces via CTRL + LEFTARROW or RIGHTARROW? Just anything that would make GW2 application lose the focus. Is this also happening when playing in windowed mode?
Just a few hints to maybe work around this issue, in any case I would report this to the support team.

I only expect 2 things:
- several skills will be changed without updating the corresponding tooltip text
- minion ai is declared “working as intended”

This is what your link points to

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=http%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2kittenqnjm9
and it is not your fault.
Substituting parts of an URL with kitten is usually not a good idea.
ArenaNet seriously has to get some experience using word filters and redirectors.
Copy and paste until they’re able to use it correctly.

SuperTubi: According to the signature your MacBook meets the minimum system requirements for Guild Wars 2 and the Mac Beta Client is officially supported, so you may also report this issue via a support ticket.

Which mac do I need to have to play?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Magoo.5726

Magoo.5726

Definitely a dedicated graphics card is superior to integrated graphics. However the Mac Beta Client is officially supported and the minimum system requirements are published here: https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1119
So if your machine meets those requirements and the game is running at unplayable framerates I would open a support ticket.

Performance/Graphics frame rate issue

Magoo.5726

The Mac Beta Client is officially supported by ArenaNet so we do not need to rely on estimations wether a specific Mac is suitable for gaming or not.
ArenaNet has published the minimum system requirements for Guild Wars 2 here: https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1119
Hardware meeting those requirements should provide you with smooth gameplay on lowest settings.
Since qaasq’s MacBook perfectly meets the minimum system requirements and the gameplay is okay only sometimes this clearly is a case for a support ticket.

Edit your “~/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2/config”
and set the “VideoRam” value appropriate to the video memory size of your graphics card first. Then experiment with values between “0” and “4” on the “MTD3D” setting to find the one that offers best performance to you.

Questions on my axe/mace build

Magoo.5726

phantomFury is right for level 80 chars. Jiaz however stated he is currently leveling. On my newly level 30 warrior the 5 signets push my critical hit chance from 31% to 79% which means a bonus of 48%. Almost 4 out of 5 hits critting is a huge benefit I definitely do not want to miss until the 40 precision per signet aren’t worth the utility slot they’re equipped in any more.

Let's unite for a Mac OS X native client

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Magoo.5726

Magoo.5726

That’s why I would love to see a native client:
1) I don’t want to play with medium settings on high-end systems
2) I don’t want to play with low settings on mid-range systems
3) I don’t want to play a slideshow on low-end systems that meet the minimum system requirements published here https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1119

I expect an officially supported client allowing to run this game with similar performance compared to the Windows version.
No one with just some experience in running games with wrappers like Wine or Cider can believe that this graphically demanding game runs with satisfying performance on an Intel HD3000 and it does not run well on an Intel HD4000 either.

MM using focus

in Necromancer

Posted by: Magoo.5726

Magoo.5726

Focus stacks a lot of vulnerability and so does the axe. Use this set to help your minions making damage, use the staff to keep them alive. Sometimes it is also useful to swap a minion for spectral wall: even more vulnerability, and protection for your remaining minions.

Yeah, thats it. I’ve started my necromancer and wanted to be a minion master with my private army to rule Tyria. So I skilled death magic, because the jagged horrors sounded very promising. After five points in there I became the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Badly disappointing.

Bootcamp vs OSX Client

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Magoo.5726

Magoo.5726

Most users report better performance using Windows, expectable, since the OS X client is not a native application but a wrapped one.
Just cancel the installer when the big download starts and copy your current game files from the Windows partition over to
/Applications/Guild Wars 2.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/GW2
This way you can try it yourself without big trouble.

One of those should work I think. Will not test it because I love the GW2 Soundtrack.

Moa Morph removes your current transformation, places it on full cooldown, and turns you into a moa, so it works as intended. It is also intended that any transformation destroys all your minions and places them on full cooldown.
Yeah, not nice, but intended.

It’s kitten that Apple purged the graphics card info from the “About This Mac” window. Make sure that you have at least an Intel HD3000 which is usually the case when your MacBook is eqipped with a Sandy Bridge CPU. You should find that info just a few clicks away from the “More Info…” button.
Also in this thread: learning English on the GW2 forums: “kitten” means everything kitten.

Short answer: It will not run.
Long answer:
- Intel Core 2 Duo < Intel Core i5 or better.
- 2 GB RAM < 4 GB RAM or better.
- Intel GMA X3100 < Intel HD 3000 or better.
Your hardware is way below the minimum requirements.

There’s no difference for me if I connect headphones or external speakers to the headphones jack or not. I’ve not tested any USB audio devices at all, but I remember when connecting a HDMI display I may change the audio settings to use its speakers.
My OS X audio settings (Option-F10) are factory default, there’s not much to change at all. However you may check them with the game running to make sure they are not changed to something useless.
My ingame audio settings are (skipping the volume sliders and freely translating into English as my ingame language is not English):
audio device: default device
audio quality: medium
music interval: medium
mixing buffer size: lowest latency
mute when GW2 is running in the background: checked

The function keys are not remapped when running the game, you have to do it yourself:
Option-F5 (Keyboard Options), check “Use F1, F2 etc. as standard function keys”, or similar, my OS language is not English and I’ve translated the line freely.
There might also be Third-Party-Software which can do this job for you.

Mid 2012 MBAs have Ivy Bridges with an Intel HD4000 GPU. AFAIK the 4GB models use 384MB as video memory, the 8GB models like mine use 512MB. That shouldn’t make any difference as we’re currently bound to lowest settings to get limited playable framerates: 15-25fps at 1440×900 with Render mode: Subsample and Shadows: none
Not tested on Bootcamp, but ArenaNet reported about 35fps for the Intel HD4000, I guess on a Windows system:
