Hello again,

After reading all of your comments and trying a bunch of things; I have realized that I am actually an idiot.

I moved my pc recently and have just discovered that I accidentally connected my monitor into the motherboard hdmi instead of the gpu’s hdmi…….So of course GW2 is running as well as it used to again.

thanks all for your input

Hi All,

I took a bit of a break from gw2 a couple of months back. I’ve decided to come back and play, but now my fps is significantly lower than it used to be.

I used to be able to play at around 45-60fps on high-ultra settings. Now i’m lucky if it hits 20fps. Has anything changed with the client in the past 6 months that could have caused this? Or is this something that has maybe happened on my pc?

Specs are:
Cpu – i7 6700k
Gpu – Asus Turbo 970gtx
motherboard: Asus z170

120gb ssd

I’m playing as a condition chronomancer using rabid gear. I’m finally getting better with the build I’m using, so I’m thinking I might drop some of the toughness on my armour and pick up something else for more dps. What armour stats would you guys recommend?

Condition damage and crit rate are a must.

Just wondering if anyone knows how I can acquire the Dandy Bluster pistol. I really want it now that I’m using a pistol in my chronomancer.

I’ve got a level 80 mesmer with about 15% world completion. I’ve been meaning to finish it off but just couldn’t be bothered.

The masteries are going to help since I’m excited to level them up while finishing world completion. Plus now that the elite spec requirements have gone down, I’ll be able to play around with chrono at the same time.

I’ve been playing ele in HoT and realised it’s quite a bit of work to unlock the specializations. So I’m trying to figure out whether I want to invest most of my time into tempest or chrono. Can anyone tell me their experiences with chronomancer in PVE? I’ve mostly only played mesmer in PVP.

So how is Tempest now?

I’ve been having fun playing tempest in PVP. I didn’t really participate in any betas, but I heard a lot of negative comments about tempest. My question is, how much has tempest improved since BWE3? Were the changes quite drastic? Because it seems quite fun to play.

I really like the idea of the tablet and I had a lot of fun with it (especially the light field and hammer combo). But like some people have said, I’d be more inclined to use it if there were some improvements.

Such as spawning the tablet on legend swap, a small increase to healing and range, and instance cast on the movement so I can move it around while I’m using skills that require that longer cast time. I can’t remember what the elite was, so no opinion in that.

So what now?

Preparing the equipment for your rev and getting some level tomes together would come to my mind

You’re right, I didn’t think of tomes. I have around 40 if I remember correctly. Is PvP still the best way to get them?

BWE3 is the first beta weekend I actually participated in; and I loved every second of it.

So here’s my predicament:
I’ve been playing Elementalist since launch, but I’m not too keen on it’s new elite specialization. I’ve heard that it has been improved over previous BWE’s, but it’s just not doing it for me at this time. With this in mind, I started playing around with other classes and their specializations. I came to the conclusion that Revenant is pretty awesome. So at this point there is a pretty good chance that I’m going to drop ele and main the Revenant.

BUT…what should I do until HoT releases? I’m stuck playing with a class that I’ll probably bench once HoT is released. The best I can think of is to buy gear and play around with Revenant builds until the release date. But there will likely be changes to traits and weapon skills in the next few weeks.

Any suggestions on what I should focus my time on?

So Revenant is awesome. I’ve been playing mesmer and ele for the past couple of years (mostly ele). But after the disaster that is tempest, I decided to try out some other classes, and Revenant is by far my favourite!

I’ve been playing around with tanky builds using Soldier armour and they work great. Good damage, huge defences, decent healing, heaps of condition cleansing, nice amount of boons. This is for PVE, I’ve yet to try Revenant in PVP, but I’ve heard that it’s pretty good.

Also Ventari’s tablet is one of my favourite things in this game at the moment. It’s can keep it’s projectile reflection up for a while and creates a light field at the same time. Works great with the hammer #1 skills (physical projectile + light field).

Last time I did Wurm I had it running at like 25-30 FPS solidly (at the one with the barrels), so you might be surprised

Oh that sounds promising. I’ll be trying Teq in a couple of hours. I’m hoping for at least 30 FPS. Similar to Lion’s Arch, I’ve never done Teq with more that 12 fps.

Since I’ve got the hardware, I may start looking at OCing the processor. But not until I know everything about it.

1. liquid cooling and water cooling are the exact same right? (never built a system myself)

Yeah, pretty much.

2. what are the chances of the liquid cooler breaking and destroying my entire system?

Without ever having seen any actual data, I’d say that the odds of that happening would be pretty slim, at least for an AIO cooler like an H100i

3. would I need to install anything else beside a Z-series Motherboard to overclock cpu?

Nope, although a quality power supply and an aftermarket cooler are usually wise things to have

4. would the PSU i’ve chosen have all the necessary cables to power everything I’ve chosen in my system?

The only thing that you’d have to double check would be the number of 6+2 pin adapters for the GPU (for example, my old CX430 only had 1 so I would need to use a molex adapter to run my 280x off of it), but any decent PSU will have plenty of those. That being said, make sure to buy a high quality PSU; it’s the last thing you want to skimp on because if that fails it can easily take the rest of your computer with it.

5. will there be any issues fitting all this into the 300r mid case that I’ve chosen?

I’d say to look up the compatibility to be sure, but I don’t think it would be an issue. My brother crammed an H100i into his 100R just fine, even though it was a bit of a pita to install.

and lastly, will I still need to buy additional case fans if I liquid cool the cpu? I suppose there is the GPU to consider. But it’s an asus gtx 970 turbo. Seems to have some pretty decent cooling on it

Realistically 1 intake and 1 venting fan is plenty, especially if they’re decent airflow fans. It’s nice to have an extra 1 or two though, just to maximize the airflow.

Thanks this is pretty reassuring. I placed the final order a few hours ago, so in a few days i’ll finally be building this thing (with no experience in doing so).

I checked out some reviews for a H60 cooler and purchased one. They seem decent and I’ll play it safe with what fits in the case.

The PSU I went with was a user-suggested eVGA 220-G2-0750-XR 750W G2 80+ Gold Full Modular Power Supply. Looks like a solid PSU and the 750w will give me a little more power if/when I decide to upgrade in the future.

I also bought 2 extra fans: Corsair Twin Pack Corsair 4-Pin PWM SP120. Haven’t decided if I’ll use them to replace the existing fans or join them. I’m thinking of putting the 2 fans I purchased in the front of the case for air intake. Then I’ll put the 2 stock fans in the top to push out that hot air. The H60 liquid cooler has it’s own fan which will go in the back of the case and intake air for the radiator.

Thanks for everyone’s help!
I went from buying a pre-built $1600(AUS) system, to making my own $2100 system. Why the hell not right? Just gotta make sure I don’t plug something into the wrong port and destroy everything!

The cooler mount holes on the motherboard for Intel haven’t changed in quite a few sockets now (starting in 2008 with Socket 1156).

A 212 Evo is all right but with the money you’re spending you should be able to afford a Noctua DH-15 or a Corsair H100i or something. Although the 212 Evo is great at its price point (I use one myself), you do see some solid gains from a better cooler.

I actually really like the look of that H100i. Couple of questions.

1. liquid cooling and water cooling are the exact same right? (never built a system myself)
2. what are the chances of the liquid cooler breaking and destroying my entire system?
3. would I need to install anything else beside a Z-series Motherboard to overclock cpu?

Okay I’ve decided on a final build. I think this will get me those ultra settings while also lasting a few years.

CPU: i7-6700 3.4ghz

MB: Asus B150 PRO GAMINNG D3 Intel B10 S1151/4xDDR3/1xPCIEx16/DVI/D-SUB/USB3.0/ATX Motherboard

GPU: Asus TURBO-GTX970-OC-4GD5 4G GTX 970 Turbo OC PCI-E VGA Card

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Kit(8GBx2) DDR3-1600 CMZ16GX3M2A1600C9

HDD: Toshiba 1TB 7200rpm

SSD: Samsung 120GB SSD 850 EVO

Case: Corsair Carbide 300R Black Mid-Tower Gaming Case with Side Window

PSU: Corsair CS750M 750W ATX Power Supply, 80+ Gold Certified, Semi-Modular Design

I can’t see anything that is incompatible with anything else. I think I’m finally understanding computers, after days of researching parts! Also managed to keep it all under $2000 ($AUS).

If anyone has anymore suggestions, please let me know. I’m going to that ordering parts tomorrow.

Thanks all!

Okay so I’ve decided to just make my own system. It’s impossible to find a pre-made system that doesn’t skimp on something somewhere. It’s my first time building a PC so I don’t really want to do any overclocking and watercooling etc. This is what I’ve come up with:

CPU: i7-4790 3.6ghz

MB: MSI B85-G43 GAMING LGA 1150 Motherboard

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Kit(8GBx2) DDR3-1600 CMZ16GX3M2A1600C9

GPU: MSI Radeon R9 390 Gaming 8GB Video Card

HDD: Toshiba 1TB 7200rpm

SSD: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Kit(8GBx2) DDR3-1600 CMZ16GX3M2A1600C9

case: Corsair Carbide 300R Black Mid-Tower Gaming Case with Side Window

PSU: Corsair CS750M 750W ATX Power Supply, 80+ Gold Certified, Semi-Modular Design

OS: windows 8.1

So my final questions are:
1. will this system run GW2 on max settings with a good fps?
2. can anyone see any parts here that are incompatible with each other?
3. am I missing any parts at all? (I think I’ve covered everything)
4. should I buy a different fan for the cpu (I’ve read that the stock fan isn’t too great)
5. is there a difference in speed between the i7-4790 and the i7-4790k? (without overclocking)

I’m glad you like Corsair products too :-). I have the same case & ram etc.

The R9 390 will run a lot of things at max (including GW2). Your case will comfortable fit the GPU and will allow you to add a couple of fans. I recommend getting a liquid cooler made by Corsair.

I recommend getting a 2 TB HDD.

Make sure to upgrade to Windows 10.

Personal motherboard I’d recommend: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/Z97DELUXENFC_WLC/

Reason being is that it has a very friendly BIOS. Eventually you may get into pushing your system to the limit, and asus makes nice BIOS pages.

Check out Corsair’s upcoming MMO gaming mouse (scimitar) and their RGB keyboards

Corsair seems like a pretty good brand TBH. I’ve already got a keyboard and mouse, but I guess they’re getting a little old too.

I’ll take a look at that motherboard when I get home from work

In reply to 4.

If you are not going to over clock. Don’t spend the money on a new fan. You really don’t need it. You’d be better off spending the money on more case fans to keep everything cooler.

The SSD is a Samsung 120GB SSD 850 EVO.
Thanks for the reply, I’ll take all that into consideration.

That setup will run above 30 FPS on max setup for sure, most likely to be close or above 60 FPS, except of course in some world bosses and bigger WvW zerg fights where no one can get above 30 FPS.
If they could change the SSD to an Samsung EVO it would be better.

Yeah I don’t have very high hopes for WvW scenarios.

I’ve narrowed down my choices to the following:

Motherboard: ASUSH170M-ED3
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700Processor 3.40GHz
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB Kit1866(8GBx2)
Graphics: Gigabyte2GBR9380WINDFORCEOC
SSD: Samsung 650 Series 120GB SSD
HDD: Seagate 1TB SATA3

~~~~~~vs~~~~~~~
Motherboard: GIGAYBYTE H97N-WIFI
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.5GHz
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Black 8GB DDR3 1866 Memory
Graphics: GIGABYTE N960IXOC-2GD 2G GTX 960
SSD: SAMSUNG 650 SERIES 120G SATA3
HDD: Seagate 2TB SATA3
Both systems are fairly similar and pricing is pretty much the same. I’m ALMOST certain that both of these systems will get me max settings with a steady fps. Can anyone notice a clear winner? or does it not matter?
Hi All,
I’ve almost saved enough money for a new pc; so I’m looking for some help with the specs.
I would like to run GW2 on max settings with at least 30fps…will this setup be able to achieve that?
System Components:
CPU: Intel Core i5 6400 Processor
Motherboard: MSI B150M Bazooka Motherboard
Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX 970 OC 4GB
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury HX426C15FBK2/8 8GB (2×4GB) DDR4 Black
Solid State Drive: SanDisk Ultra II 240GB SSD
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001
Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W Power Supply
I’m buying a prebuilt pc, since I don’t know how to build my own. I think this setup will be mostly fine. I’m a little concerned about the CPU, since GW2 is supposed to be quite CPU reliant.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks in advance!
GW2 max settings
in Players Helping Players
Posted by: MahouKami.6095
MahouKami.6095
Hi All,
So I’m looking at buying a new computer in about a month. I figured I may as well buy a half decent one so I can get high visual settings and a nice frame rate in GW2. Unfortunately I’m not all the tech savvy when it comes to PCs.
I’m aware that GW2 is somewhat heavily reliant on CPU (for some reasons I don’t fully understand).
With that in mind, I’ve gone and chosen this set up:
Motherboard – ASUS H170M-E D3
Processor – Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz
Video Card – Gigabyte N750TOC-2GL GTX 750 TI OC
Network Card – Gigabit 10/100/1000 Fast Network Card (Integrated)
8GB RAM
2x Hard drives (it comes with 2 drives?):
1 is a 2TB SATA3 Hard disk
the other is a 120GB SSD
I’ll probably put GW2 on the SSD to try and reduce those load times a bit. Other than that, I’m not too sure what I’m looking at and if these specs will give me high/max settings with a decent frame rate in-game (at least 30fps).
If anyone knows whether or not these specs will do the job, please let me know!
Thanks in advance
