The road to Reward on GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Manatee Nymph.8261

Manatee Nymph.8261

So,

After logging in for the first time in more than I year, I think I have discovered “road” to finding the game “rewarding”, as well as the quick and easy way to get enough gold to afford a precursor and more.

Back then, the endless grinding to get enough gold and mats to be able to craft the elusive legendary was so soul destroying, our whole group moved on to better more rewarding games…

Anyway,
For those still playing GW2, don’t lose hope, I’ve got the answer:

1) Buy obscure items
2) Log off
3) Play better games
4) Log back on a year or so later
5) Check AH and smile
6) 30g investments turned into 1200g
7) ?
8) Log off

Have fun guys.

So whats up with the candy corn prices?

When I still played GW2 I created a google spreadsheet to monitor prices and mail me when certain items reached a min/max price.

Lo and behold: I’ve started receiving alerts about candy corn prices:
I haven’t logged on in months, so haven’t kept up with updates or anything.

So out of curiosity, what’s up with that?

Super Adventure Box isn’t fun? Living World stories aren’t fun? Daily events with Jumping Puzzles, Keg Brawl, Costume Brawl, and so on in such expansively random variety aren’t fun?

Living world is boring. Feels like a step back from the dynamic event and heart system. It is nothing more than kill 150 rats, collect 250 mellons.

SAB: 8bit temporary HKO content, nty!
Daily is nothing more than time gated repetition
Jumping puzzles are fun the first time.

GW2 is not by any stretch of the imagination “the best game ive ever played”.

It might be one of the prettiest
It might have the best levelling system
It might be revolutionary with regards to questing
It might have awesome potential

but its alo

Edit: Added Mystic Toilet :-P
The most unrewarding
Has the worst time gated rewards I’ve ever seen (Time played > skill)
They don’t want us to play the game the way we want to (see farming)
Horrible class balance
No LFG
Nonexistant sPvP
Stale unimaginative WvW (aka PvD or ZvZ)
The crafting system… LOL
TP Wars 2
DR
Their systematic nerfing of any and all things that might give you an advantage
Reliably making gold (farming)
Use of ingame bundles
Their curious inability to address class issues even 7 months after release
Most unimaginative open world boss fights (auto attack… loot)
Because of their stance on making gold, a great deal of beautiful zones are barren of players
./snip the list can go on forever.

My opinion is that the game launched a bit too early (due to whatever reasons), and because of a problem or two post launch, the “problems” started snowballing. I also don’t think they have the capacity to address a lot of the issues, and as time goes by, we’ll see the snowball growing is size.

I’m also concerned about their band-aid content additions. I’m specifically talking about the “Living Story”. In theory it can be a great way of introducing content, but in practice, it is unimaginative and boring. Nothing more than the old visit npc x, kill 10 rats, visit npc y, collect 50 rocks… Nothing new, here.

All in all – GW2 was ok at best. Their timing was perfect, and I guess it is one of the reasons they might have launched too early.

I think they are very lucky there was no real competition on launch, and even now, because the population will almost certainly get hit pretty hard when something else comes along.

How Many Play GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Manatee Nymph.8261

Manatee Nymph.8261

I think the numbers are way less than we think.

I regularly watch streams on Twitch, and have seldomly seen GW2 reach more than 500 viewers. To put in into perspective, LoL fluctuates between 30 000 and 130 000 viewers at any given time. Even games like Tera roflstomps GW2 with regards to viewers.

Anyway,
I know this does not nescesarily mean GW2 sucks, but we do need to ask why?

Short answer is: it is too boring to watch, and after L80 it becomes boring to play. I’d argue that if it aint interesting to watch, it can never be interesting to play.
Whether its sPvP or WvWvW, this game doesn’t offer much in terms of reward and diversity.

So in conclusion,
I think GW2 is the type of game where a lot of people wil try out, but only a small amount will play for an extended period of time.
Because of the mounting mistakes and decisions the devs have made, this game is (in the short term at least) doomed be be another game with unrealised potential. Possibly never to be realised if I look it its direction.

You hit the nail right on the head. Oh, a red circle on the ground. Lets stand in it gaiz! Then they rage: “omg aoe are so OP, wtb nerf!”

This is the most scrub friendly game I have seen. Apart from (a less than) handfull of bossfights, nothing is even remotely challenging. “Skill: not needed here in Tyria”

I generally complain about the lack of reward this game has to offer, but I just realised, that the trivial rewards match the equally trivial challenge/risk most activities offer.

Yeah because when all anyone really does in Orr is farm Penn/Shelter/Plinx and nothing else a change to those events is totally uncalled for….

and you have considered that we don’t farm pent/shelter because it is “fun”, but just maybe because we’re trying to make gold to one day craft a legendary?

no?

so gtfo

I couldn’t agree more that it is a very boring activity, but the lack of other options to RELIABLY bag some gold in this game kinda herd you towards those most profitable areas, like CoF, Fractals, and now deceased pent/shelter.

Colin: you’re insulting our intelligence mate.
What kind of disingenuous response is this in any case?

I am very disappointed in your response. I falsely thought you and your team were looking to better your communication with the community.

We’ve completed verifying every update from the november release, and there were zero changes to anything what so ever that would have negatively affected loot in any way/shape/form.

I’d like to point out that if you were serious about the, as you guys call: “perceived” lower drop rates, you would have very quickly noticed that not a single poster questioned any changes regarding droprates between Noverember and now. It has been clearly stated that whatever happened, happened on or before the November update. By investigating anything after that, you’re looking at a completely wrong data set. I am stunned at this, to be honest. Start taking it seriously, please.

We can officially confirm this as an X-files level conspiracy at this point.

So we are all dreaming right? Your statement discredits your whole “investigation” even more.

We’re in the midst of evaluating every loot table in the game and running massive random roll evaluations table by table, as well as evaluating every system game wide that causes a player to qualify for items to determine if any issues exist in those systems from launch.

Past performance is a great measure of future performance. Sorry, but I’m not going to hold my breath here. I’m now convinced that we won’t ever see an honest response on this issue.

Will update again when we have another round of concrete information.

I know you guys are busy, so once again, I won’t be holding my breath for a quick response.

I do however feel your priorities are not entirely where it should be: As I understand, building a strong base for the continued health of the game, is your number one priority, right? And that includes content like living story and a multitude of other additions to the game, including those new chests which spawn in place of corpses. In my humble oppinion: those changes only weaken your base, when other bugs remain. Addressing existing issues, perceived or not, and communicating it to your player base, would benefit you much more than introducing more bugs in new content.

I’m going off topic here, so I’ll end by asking you guys to man up and try to be moe honest with sensitive issues like the droprate. I’d be much happier, if you told me in my face to f..off and accept the current droprates. This dodging of the issue at hand is what irks most players in my opinion.

Anyway…

Thanks for acknowledging the “perceived” decreased in drops.

If you have no evidence (yet) of this substantial droprate nerf, then the battle is already lost. Something as noticible as this, not being picked up, and being downplayed by words like “perceived” is alarming by itself. I get the feeling that you are not taking this seriously

Now,
Like a lot of posters mentioned: Please explain how we are supposed to give you concrete evidence with regards to the drop rate decrease, when it is only you that have the tools to analyses such data?

While you might feel the urge to disregard my question, as well as the anecdotal evidence provided by many other players, keep the following in mind:

We play this game for fun. Fiscal progression is part of said fun, and when you reach a point where making gold feels like work, it is not so much fun anymore… And you know: when something is not so much fun anymore, people tend to avoid that something.

I’ve reached a point where I can’t get myself to log on anymore. I fail to see the point in farming karma for an hour or 4 without any real reward.
Gadd only knows why people continue to kill the dragons when their loot is as atrocious as the are (i know: this is a separate issue)

This “over-regulation” / gestapo style DR mechanics and nerfs are sucking the life blood out of this game. There is not much blood left, and if you guys don’t act quickly, I’m afraid it will be too late.

Now: concrete data?
I dont have any yet, but I’ll start by pointing you in the right direction:

First and foremost, even before I’ll start to analyze the player data you are logging as well as the players will provide is this:
What changed on the 11/15 patch? The key to the mystery lies there.
I’d hazard a guess that you guys also take a look at the DR system, as it is highly possible that it is the culprit.

Change in loot parameters or a bug? [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Manatee Nymph.8261

Manatee Nymph.8261

I’m a self confessed serial farmer, and my observations regarding this (lack of) “loot bug” is the following:

There’s definately a problem with rare / exotic world drops. As others mentioned: we used to get multiple rares per hour, but this has drastically gone down. You’re now lucky to get one rare for every hour farmed.

T6 mats also looks like it is dropping less, but I’m not keeping track of the amount of T6 drops as much as rares. So this is a guess at best.

However:
The droprates of blues/greens seems normal to me. I get tonnes of blues and greens, which is the core of my farming income. Farming 4-5 hourse easily nets me between 10 and 15g, which aint bad imo.

Another thing I’ve noticed though, is that DR seems to kick in much less since the update. Before the update, I’d hit DR very soon, but now, I can do a full 4hr farm “run” in mostly the same spot without hitting any DR whatsoever.

Anyway,
This is just my own observations.

Happy hunting.

Manatee Nymph.8261

1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
Me

2. When did you start playing less?
Monday, the 19th

3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
For me it was a culminations of a series of events since patch 15/11
A: The great disappointment in the “significant quality of life” ranger patch notes.
B: A boring and broken event.
C: The welfare precursor fiasco.
D: Arenanets move away from open world pve towards a more contained single point of entry dungeon. The fractals dungeon by itself is not a bad idea, but making it the only viable way to progress is what ultimately broke the camels back for me.
E: Ascended gear and a “design-lazy” new mechanic called “Agony”

Not one of the mentioned points by itself would have bothered me much, except “D” maybe, but all of them combined was the deal-breaker for me.

Also, while I’m on that, precursors dropped down in price by 100-200g depending per item. So while you may have not been able to gamble on that 15% chance, they will definitely be affordable until perhaps December!

Oceanic players and one-time events

in Suggestions

Posted by: Manatee Nymph.8261

Manatee Nymph.8261

Hi guys.

While typing this, “I’m Jack’s raging bile duct”.

I’m angry, disappointed, but I guess mostly just jealous that because of the timezone I stay in, I’m unable to have the opportunity to experience all the content (and in particulor one-time events) that other players have access to. I’m not excluding players from other regions of the world, but believe Oceanic regions have it the worst of.

If I look at the trend of event timing, it would be safe to assume that we’ll be left in the cold for every major event from now on, and I don’t think it is unreasonable for me to feel disappointed because of that. I am not raging because of a one-time failure to be able to attend, but because it seems like most of us wil not ever be able to attend major events and/or its finales.

Guild Wars 2 is afterall an MMO, a global product, not limited to a single region, sold throughout the world. We have ideed paid the same amount for the game as those in the Americas. We also spend cash on gems, yet we’re excluded from those most memorable and seemingly most profitable and rewarding events: And it is exactly that, which makes my “bile duct rage”. (Whether justified or not)

As a GW1 veteran, it was common practice by ArenaNet to have event finales repeat every 3 (or so) hourse over a 24 hour period, why not in GW2?

So, my suggestion is this:

Many (if not all) Oceaninc players like myself will agree, that you (ArenaNet) will have to re-evaluate the timing of one-time events, and implement a model closer to what you had in place with all the major events in GW1. Easy as that. It will greatly increase my perception of the game, as well as tens or even hundreds of thousands of other faithfull players.

It will also make by bile duckt rage less.

Pretty please, and thanx in advance!

The reduced prices for precursors won’t hold for long. Prices will be going up, and I forsee them regaining at least 70 – 80% of their original value in the next 3 weeks.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Manatee Nymph.8261

Manatee Nymph.8261

Ok, To start off with I’ll say that I get the fact that you all are concerned about a gear treadmill. It is bad by design! No contesting that!

However, I don’t think it is as bad as you guys pretend it to be. This is probably a one-time design “ammendment”, so lets just treat it as such.

I does however feel like a lot of you people have reading comprehention problems.

Mr Whiteside mentioned the gap between Exotic and Legandary REWARDS.

Most of you keep on hammering on about the fact that stats are the same for those types of weapons, which is of course true.

What you seemingly fail to realise is that there is indeed a HUGE gap in REWARD from exotic to legendary.

What is this REWARD I speak of?

1) You play the game…
2) you get drops… trash, trash trash trash…. trash, RARE.
3) boom you get that “happy” feeling. Your brain produces dopamine
4) repeat
5) eventualy get geared up in full exotics.
6) continue…
7) ad infinitum

The obove mentioned is relatively easy to get, and once there, the great “grind” to get a legendary starts.

From here on, the “happy” moments are few and far between. Actually, your next big “happy” moment will be when you get that legenday weapon, which might be in months time. The game will most probably be a tad less fun, and feel like work.

My view is that the introduction of the ascended gear is to relieve the time gap of you “happy” moments. Now there is someing else to give you your dopamine injection along the way to getting your legenday.

Anyway,
thats my take. I say: calm down. Try it out. Its not all doom n gloom guys.
And if it is indeed as bad as you say, theres always the “next big mmo” to migrate to. It is after all 2012, and we have choice. I’ll exercise my right to decide. If it sucks, and feels like a chore, I’ll be gone too. In the meantime: I’ll keep on enjoying a great game, and look forward to more content updates!
