It’s different for a lot of people. Here the price of the little content that HoT had to offer corresponds to a brand new game. I say it again, instead of purchasing HoT, you’d get a brand new game for the same amount of money or less where I live. Nobody in their right mind would buy HoT here if they knew how little you’d get for your money.

A lot of people I know are rather disappointed with Heart of Thorns due to the fact that the expansion is very short, and you only get a few simple zones to play with. From an objective standpoint you’re getting very little for your money, and I think that a lot of people expected more from ArenaNet.

And yet many people are enjoying it and said they feel it’s worth it, so are you saying no one that says that is in their right mind? There are two hundred people in my guild and I haven’t run into anyone that thought it wasn’t worth it.

I’m not saying that it’s not enjoyable, cause’ there’s definitely a few enjoyable elements in HoT. What I am saying however, is that for many the “fun” you get for your money isn’t much to brag about. Most of us pre-purchased the expansion, and would never have done so if we knew that the amount of new content was minimal, and that you’d spend most of your time repeating activities of the same few zones. And I do understand if some people like that, but compared to how much the expansion costs here that’s for a lot of people not worth their money, and those I’ve talked to generally agree; the expansion is not terrible, but the value definitely is.

I do get it, there are many out there who enjoy the game and/or isn’t very value-oriented in terms of the content they spend their money on, and I guess that’s fine. But that doesn’t mean that the value-to-content ratio is great, and there are quite a few out there that agrees with the thought that HoT introduces surprisingly little new content to enjoy for those who doesn’t consider an eternal grindfest new content.

And I’m not bashing the grinding content either, I just don’t consider it worthy of mentioning when we’re talking about the value of the expansion.

It’s not rocket science.

The harsh and cold truth is that Guild Wars 2 offers very little proper content. Making the game an insanely hard grindfest ensures that ArenaNet doesn’t have to create much content to keep people occupied. Not happy, but occupied.

Heart of Thorns and it’s degree of difficulty is a great example of this. I’m not complaining about it being too hard(even though it’s rather unnecessary to design it that way), but it’s hard to not notice their business model with GW2.

MMORPG Forum Toxicity

I agree with a lot of the complaints, because even though the PvP carries some entertainment value, it’s extremely flawed and quite simple(in a negative matter) in my opinion. Guild Wars 2 offers very little variation in terms of the gameplay (something which is a fundamental flaw in the game itself), a problem which is also reflected in the PvP in terms of metas and such. Experimenting with builds and trying out new things is the way to get frustrated with the game due to the simple fact that some builds are from an objective standpoint better than others for the majority of the situations you’ll encounter in a PvP match.

Over the past years I’ve learned to accept that the PvE is what I bought the game for, and that the PvP is a simple “bonus” that will never be a consistent experience with possibilities for creativity. I really wanted to enjoy it, but it’s really hard to appreciate when you have to play a specific profession in a specific way in order to have a good time.

Hide pet while in combat...

Why isn’t this possible to do? Sometimes pets are just annoying as hell. They retaliate when mobs attack you unless you switch them to passive-mode, they can accidentally pull mobs and they can screw up a lot of strategies.

Why can’t we indefinitely disable them if we wish to do so?

Really? People just need to toughen up

Is the point to just finish the game, or have fun while finishing the game?

OP, you’ve completely lost the point of playing games, just like ArenaNet with this new expansion.

Most of the complaints are justified, and you’re not really seeing the big problem with this failure of an expansion, which is the eternal grinding that’s required in order to make progress, not to talk about the astronomical amounts of hero points you need to unlock the features that everyone has been looking forward to trying.

Sure, you’re having fun while exploring now, but good luck with the endless and painful grinding sessions that are required in order to progress.

ArenaNet kittened up, because even though you’re having fun, I dare to say that there’s a huge amount of people that aren’t having fun at all.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

6/10 – disappointing, but not straight-out horrible.

Positive: The story isn’t bad at all, and the rewards for doing it isn’t the worst I’ve seen. There’s a lot that could have been better, but so far it’s solid. Also a pluss for making it more challenging.

Negative/game-breakers: The grinding aspect of the game. A lot of content is unplayable unless you grind for countless hours in order to unlock masteries. Also a huge minus for making a lot of the content hard to solo.

Gating gating gating.

It kinda confuses me, since I unlocked the first masteries in gliding and Itzel while exploring the starter area of Verdant Brink and doing the first 2-3 story missions with two of my toons.
I’ve got 4 masteries now and I haven’t even seen half of the events here…

(I’m not sarcastic or anything, I’m really wondering how it comes that so many seem to need grinding mobs/events)

Because it gets worse. Much worse. Gaining xp for your masteries becomes much more tedious later.

Warrior Dead in PvP??

I agree with most of those who claim that the warrior is broken.

What is it actually supposed to be?
They die quicker now.
They don’t do very much damage.

They’re right there at the bottom of the chart, together with rangers.

GW1-style skills in form of traits.

in PvP

Posted by: MarTn.3810

MarTn.3810

GW2 is extremely straight-forward compared to GW1. Classes are no longer designed to function around a particular set of roles, and can instead fill a wider variety of roles, though to a lesser extent in terms of efficiency.
It’s likely ArenaNet’s attempt at expanding their playerbase by making the game more “casual”.

GW1 had skills where you had to make important compromises and well-timed decisions in coordination with your team, something which spiced the game up a lot.
GW2 on the other hand, is targeted at the more typical MMO player with more generic skills, individual gameplay and less focus on strategy at a medium/low level.

Despite how much I’d love to see skills that actually offer some strategical value, that’s not how ArenaNet designed their game to be. It’s really a shame, because GW2 is such a repetitive game with so little variation.

A player who is better with there class than you are with yours will always win. Face the fact some people are better then you are and you’ll be alot happier. No matter how good you think you are, some people are better than you.

If two players are competing on equal terms, the better player will of course come out victorious.

But that’s why we’re having this discussion. Guild Wars 2 is, seen from an objective standpoint, an unfair game where some professions will guarantee a higher rate of success compared to others.

Why Ranger isn't getting buffs

in PvP

Posted by: MarTn.3810

MarTn.3810

the class have enough damage when built correctly and you don’t neglect the pet or skip pet traits just for personal traits as most pet traits now also effect the ranger so not taking pet traits you’re hurting your own damage by not managing the pet effectively or choosing the correct pet for the job.

The old Power lb/Gs is dead you need to incorporate pets into the build rather than taking every trait that effects Ranger only.

What you’re describing is something that would only work in PvE. In PvP it’s easy to disable a pet, and if you’re making use of it by for example making it draw your conditions it will more often than not be dead. Pet traits are indeed somewhat useful for the ranger, too, but you’ll kind of get “half” of the effect if you’re ignoring your pet, which is what you’ll most likely do for PvP.

The point is that you can’t rely on your pet for damage or support. You can’t properly control it, and therefore it’s really not a useful element for PvP where engaging the proper target is important. That’s why focusing on the ranger only has been, and will always be, the way to play the rainger to the best of their abilities in PvP. There are simply better things to focus on rather than managing your pet, and if you’ve actually tried it you would have known.
Not to mention that pets at times can be rather unresponsive either due to complicated pathing to the target, obstacles etc.

They’ll need to “sharpen” some of the ranger’s roles in order to make it function properly again, either giving them a much needed damage buff across the board or new and easier ways to inflict conditions in order to make the shortbow, axe, dagger and torch even remotely usable again.

It doesn’t matter whether you max out condition damage or power, the ranger fails to deal any significant damage regardless of offensive choices.

Why Ranger isn't getting buffs

in PvP

Posted by: MarTn.3810

MarTn.3810

The OP clearly doesn’t know anything about how the ranger has been altered and how it’s now one of the least useful classes in the game compared to the others.

Pets aren’t that useful when you take every single situation into consideration. They won’t necessarily do much damage, and for experienced rangers they’ll serve best by drawing conditions. Relying on them as a source of damage isn’t smart at all, since managing your pet isn’t a viable option in PvP. Their main purpose is to be meatshields and condition victims, and with some pets their pet skill may be of some use.

Rangers do NOT have reliable damage in ANY situation. This can easily be demonstrated in PvP where for example their Rapid Fire skill is extremely easy to dodge.
At the same time, conditions are no longer a reliable way to deal damage for rangers due to the fact that they’re easily outclassed by for example necromancers and engineers when it comes to this matter. Bleeding is, and has always been, easy to deal with, and the winning classes will now bombard you with conditions. The ranger never had much of an edge to start with, and now their condition builds aren’t really viable in use.

Yes, you have a few surviability skills as a ranger, but they’re weaker than one might think . Signet of Stone doesn’t prevent condition damage, so that skill is useless against condition-heavy classes where direct damage isn’t the main source. Their condition removals aren’t much to brag about either, and they won’t work for longer fights where contitions are quickly reinflicted.
And they lack good disengages, that’s a huge problem. If you look away from Lightning Reflexes, a ranger will most of the time have to stand there and fight to death unlike many of the other classes with proper escapes. If you get focused, you’re done for as a ranger.

Latency/Lag for EU Players? [merged]

Guild Wars 2 is the most unreliable game I’ve ever played when it comes to lag and performance. Sure, the game isn’t particularly well optimized, but a hefty upgrade fixed my problems there…partially.

Regardless, the GW2 PvP is unplayable if you’re struggling with frequent ping-spikes, and I’ve left over half of the matches I’ve played due to the fact that I can’t stand playing with such a disadvantage. I considered purchasing a few player slots, but I changed my mind due to the fact that I can’t really enjoy the game anymore as unresponsive and laggy it is at the moment.

Short lag-spikes that usually happens during combat, usually involves unresponsiveness for a few seconds before it “catches up” with the rest of the game. Happens very often in 5v5 matches. Also happens to a varying degree in PvE, but that is to be expected. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a lot of people for the lag-spikes to take place.

It’s not on my side. Spent several days troubleshooting my connection, replacing routers, reinstalling the OS/game/drivers, pinging and tracing and replacing cables.

It’s ArenaNet who sucks at optimizing their game…

GW2 utilizes 2-3 only cores I believe, and it’s not a very GPU-effective either. Simply put, it’s a terrible game when it comes down to performance.

I highly doubt that ArenaNet is ever going to do something about this, even though an i5 is basically a requirement for a smooth experience at the moment.

So blame ArenaNet for being too lazy/not skilled enough to implement solutions taking advantage of more than three cores.

Alright, so I’ve tried to find an answer to this question, but I simply can’t find one.

In short: What decides whether or not you’ll get a reward chest after participating in a boss event?

I’ve joined in the middle of an event and gotten a chest and I’ve been in from the start and gotten nothing. Is it random? Is it a set amount of chests per day? Does it depend on whether or not I participated in the meta events?

Thank you for your time. I’d love to just get a straight answer.

(I’m sorry if this isn’t the right part of the forum, though I didn’t find any place more fitting for the topic.)

Waiting for next week now. I actually dare to say that last week was better (for us). Haven’t seen an “epic fight” in quite some time now.

PS @Gandara: No need to laugh/jump on dead people when you’ve overrun us. Let’s keep it clean.

It’s a rather unfortunate situation for both FPS and Arborstone. At least on the FPS-side you can clearly see the will to play and compete diminishing, which is both sad and completely natural.
People won’t come back in such a discouraging situation, reducing the already bleeding number of players willing to fight. Again, no wonder why many doesn’t even bother playing this week.

Still, Gandara deserves what they’ve accomplished, even though most of the fights are nothing but a boring matter of having the most people on your side. I’m still looking for a well-balanced, lengthy and intense clash, though I doubt it will happen this week. Regardless, I tip my hat for Gandara.

Arborstone seems to be right in our heels nowadays. Not too bad in my opinion considering their situation (Got friends playing there).

Anyways, we all probably have our predictions about the final outcome. Let’s just cross our fingers for next week and look at the bright side.

I think we can call this week’s matchup a fail….

Gandara are steamrolling the map due to their sheer numbers (I’m not mentioning tactics since they seem obsolete and nonexistent). The two other are simply not many enough to put up a fight, easy as that. Tactics and skill shouldn’t be mentioned yet, because neither of the three worlds have shown any yet. Objective fact.

Let’s hope for next week and forget this one. FSP doesn’t care anymore, and Arborstone’s presence is yet to be noticed.

Seems like FPS are struggling with their numbers compared to Gandara. Arbostone…I just feel sorry for you guys.

It’s really just the lack of players on the FPS-side that’s the problem. Doesn’t seem like anybody cares. Too bad, could have been a good matchup, though it doesn’t seem like that’s the case.

Frame-rate problems - Why?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: MarTn.3810

MarTn.3810

So I’m experiencing terrible performance, just like a lot of others here.

The core components of my system:

ASUS GTX 670 DirectCUII – Boost Clock running at 1115MHz
AMD FX 8320 – Overclocked, running stable at 4,4GHz.
ASUS M5A97, Socket AM3+.

I am using a 7200RPM Barracuda 1TB, but I don’t think that’s a problem source.

Anyways, I’ve overclocked both my CPU and GPU, and the game is still not even running stable a 40FPS.

I’ve tried adjusting graphical settings, but I can’t get a decent frame-rate without making the game look like garbage.

Any thoughts on how to improve this?
