Yes please, this slider is very much needed. Would help in events and WWW. Seeing nothing but overdone particles effects during those, is quite disturbing for my visual pleasure, which I would like gaming to be.
Please don’t. Unless they are implemented in a new original way.
Example:
Pulling out your mount from your bagpack, as in other games, is one of the most stupid things ever.
Bloom is the most ugly looking gfx effect in the gaming scene. First thing I do after installing a game, is turning it off in anyway possible (goodbye post-effects.)
Anet didn’t need to introduce dungeon tokens at all. Especially in a game which isn’t relying on monthly subscriptions.
Personally, I seriously dislike having a special set of stats 100% unavailable to me, unless if I grind dungeons untill I fall down my chair of pure excitement. Because you never know what is around the next corner in a dungeon. Very exciting !!
Holy trinity was a dumbed down version of what we had in EQ. Fact is that MMO combat has actually evolved into something much simpler than what it actually was in a good group in EverQuest. EQ had a lot more different roles than 3. They could be mixed in various ways for success. You didn’t need a single special composition to succeed, like you do in 90% of MMO’s today.
It’s the trend of games, they are all being dumbed down unfortunately.
We really don’t need mounts. GW2 works pretty kitten well without mounts.
35 and having a fairly good time, though the endgame (event farmfest) is starting to bother me.
They need to make a lot less mobs spawn, and make them way tougher. People with high, low cooldown AoE are ruling the crap out of those without.
But then I just start playing around with the market, only takes a few minutes every time I log on to update my buy orders.
Funny fact: The younger people from my guild (21-25) has ceased to play already, just like the OP describes.
Commanders are just rally points for others. 90% of them possess zero leadership skill, even though they might think they are entitled to lead because they were able to spent 100g on a fluff (in their case) tag.
I know only one commander on my server who deserves his tag, the rest should (rightfully) be ignored.
Commanders are a problem all in general, because they got their tag because of having too much money (My personal guess is that 90% of the commanders didn’t earn their money “legit”.) Very few people are able to come up with extra 100g on their own they earned without exploiting or buying gold (the illegal way, 100g is a hell of a lot if you buy via gems.)
If I were Anet, I would take a look at the commanders, and carefully examine their wallet history. A few bans would most likely happen if they did it properly.
You guys are a bunch of whiny kids.
Submit bug reports, they’ll get to it in time. “Proof that they don’t care” is up there as one of the most childish things said I’ve read so far. ANet has a ton of stuff that they’re working through.
If you’re so mad at them, go play other games.
It’s quite obvious that you are benifitting from exploits, and don’t want them fixed too fast, so you can keep exploiting as long as possible.
ha, you think the lord is actually any good. You realise its entirely possible to just stand there and tank it as a guardian?
The elitist are speaking, all bow down to him. His words are gold, devs will listen to him more than anyone else, because he is the majority and cares about the game being fun for all !
I hope you are realizing what you are really doing with those words you spew on these forums. Devs may not see it, but your kind, will be their downfall if they listen to you. MMO history has proven this.
Then leave. This game obviously isn’t for you. You want a game that revolves around you. Too bad.
Yeah, he should just leave, because WWW works perfectly in every aspect right?
You are hilarous with such an elitist comment. Elitists have a few things in common in general:
- They have way too much time to play games
- They prefer winning over a fair fight
- They play to get geared, not to have fun
- They think they should be listened more than anyone else by devs, because they are elitists
- They usually dislike game changes, because they have learned to adapt to (IE exploit) the broken mechanics
I have something to say to you, you might not have realized:
“You are the minority, not the majority !”
You bet I will report people cheating. But problem is that atm, many people see winning at the most important thing in WWW. Having fun, and a fair match is secondary. The incentive to report your own server mates is a lot smaller than reporting the opponents.
On top of the that, the flyhack dude, can easily avoid cheating in front of his own teammates, and still utilize his hack quite a lot.
In our guild, any person who cheats, would get insta-kicked. No questions asked.
Unfortunately OP, since I’ve only posted once in this thread, that means you should only be allowed to post three times.
But since you’ve already posted 14 times, you’ll have to wait until I reach my 5th post until you can post again.
Personally I don’t see how limiting people based on the participation of others is fair, but it is by your logic so I guess you’ll understand.
because there is no game if the other teams dose not think they can win…………
the game ends
nothing to do
no pvp
nothingGuild Wars 2 WvW idea slowly dies
Most people don’t care about this issue yet. They still have to get fully geared. In a month or two, when PvP has nothing to do with getting geared, they will change their view 180 degrees.
Bots/Cheaters/Exploiters should be reported via the report tool in-game. Posting images/video links with names can be considered as harrasement.
I know its only a couple of people that cheat, but instead of seeing their name it just says “Gate of Madness Defender/Invader” ….kinda hard not to hold it against your entire server, especially when the new server you’re matched up against is already complaining about it too.
You make it very hard for people to help you catch cheaters, unless they are on your own team.
I surely hope ANet shows zero mercy as for cheats like this when they learn how to catch these cheaters. People doing such stuff should be permabanned instantly, without any warning at all. It would serve as a solid warning for everyone else.
WWW is slowly turning into an exploit / cheat fest. If ANet doesnt fix it fast, WWW, which is supposed to be one of GW2’s absolute strengths, will be ridiculed by the entire MMO community. Losing such a strength is not healthy for any corporation.

Some people say claiming that matchmaking wont fix the population problems is nothing but speculation.
Claiming that it will is exactly the same kind of speculation.
So far matchmaking hasn’t fixed anything. That is my claim. Untill proven otherwise, this is the reality of here and now. Future speculation is just speculation.
Under the current system, as long as there continues to be worlds with a night presence, and worlds without a night presence, this problem will continue to exist and these worlds are going to play each other eventually even if at the very best they miss each other for a single rotation. This is the reality of the situation whether you want to admit or not, of course there are variables within the system that could change this, but none of these would be anything reasonable or even beneficial for players to consider using, like ‘night-cappers decide to NOT play when they only facing empty forts’ etc etc.
It looks like a fish, and until you give me some extremely good reason/evidence to believe otherwise, you’re welcome to go find some as I would be most interested in having nothing to worry about. My evidence? Reading these forums is a good place to start unless they’re all just silly delusional pessimists or something.
Maybe… your entire life is speculation. Maybe it’s not worth believing anything…
Your entire post is speculation TBH. A speculation about the future is not reality. The reality is here and now, and that is it.
Here, I’ll spell it out for you;
Servers in group X exists, these are night cap servers.
Servers in group Y exists, they are not night cap servers.
Server X and Y are inevitably going to play each other because rankings change, and matchups change.
Problem existsDo you honestly believe this is speculation? This is borderline written in stone, and it blows my mind to think anyone would suggest otherwise. Please tell me why you believe this isn’t going to happen, preferably a reason that actually has some likelihood of occuring, seriously, I really am interested in knowing.
Reality? That reality exists is an assumption that every single person has to make before we can make assertions about absolutely anything, but this is everyday stuff we’re discussing, not kitten quantum physics. My face is buried in my palms. Reality check.
You wrote all that stuff above to dismiss my (unbacked) claim that match-fixing wont fix anything. My point is, you can neither proof or dismiss this claim. It is speculation whether it will fix matchups or not fix it.
If you don’t see the problem, I am inclined to think that you used to ride under the nick : Ginger Magician, known to be one of the most arrogant MMO players ever, firmly believing he is the best MMO player to live on this planet. I also bet you have no clue what it feels like to be on a low pop server. I also believe you have no clue about that most MMO’s are for the masses, not for the elite.
Roles would be fine, if they didn’t repeat the quite frigging boring holy trinity setup which has been used in about 9 of 10 MMO’s the past 7-8 years.
EQ was much more fun. Here you had more than just 3 roles. You had specialized buffers, specialized CC’ers, specialized pullers and so on. EQ had the role system much more in place than any MMO which has surfaced since those days.

Asking for a few months of patience is not gonna help your case. The problem is here, and obvious to everyone not blinded by their servers night ganking of the low pop servers.
I don’t even see the fun in night ganking. Sure you will get karma & gold.
But what happens the day you are fully geared. I tell you what will happen, as in all other games:
You will start to cry about not having any opposition at night. Suddenly your rewards (Karma & Gold) means nothing to you, and at that point, the game becomes pointless to you. No opposition and no rewards is neither rewarding or fun. At that point, you will find a new game to play.
You may call it speculation, but it is speculation based on other MMO’s history.

It’s the ultimate noob mentality honestly.
When a noob loses, they blame the game. I mean, it must be the game that’s at fault right? they could never lose because they are so uber mega awesome. So the game must be broken.
When good players lose, they say, why did we lose? and what could we have done better? Then they look for solutions. That’s what the top servers did. They saw a problem, and they solved it. They didn’t blame the game and demand things be changed.
So all you nightcap complainers out there can either stick with the noob mentality and blame the game for your own losses, or accept the fact that you are being beat by servers that are better than yours and work on getting better. Your choice.
Says the Hedge of Denravi bandwagoner, cheers.
Let me try it your way :
Why did we lose? We dont have the same amount of players in wvwvw during the night.
How can we fix it? Find people from other timezones to play. (or have arenanet find a solution, like limiting population according to demand to get in for example, but we dont want any of that, its noob mentality)
So the solution for everyone is, go out find yourself a guild from a different timezone and FORCE them to move to your server! If they dont want to, employ them or kill there familes to get them to come over and help you win in a game!
Right Hedge Bandwagoner?
I’ve been on Henge since the first moment the live servers opened for headstart boyo.
Just accept the fact that your server is losing to better servers and get over it. Those better servers will move up in the rankings then maybe the next matchup you will cry a little less.
Higher population at right times = Better?
You make me laugh, hard !
You almost make it look like night zerging requires skill.
How does this work in the situation whereby a server has enough people to populate Eternal but doesn’t have enough for the borderlands?
Is the cap across all of borderlands? Is it for each individual borderland?
If that is the case, what of the situation where one server can field lots people while the other two servers can’t? Are the borderlands closed down?
I would say we would need individual cap per borderlands / BG. With “floor” limit at X (possibly 50).
Even though you have some valid points Sky, it is still a problem as it stands today for a lot of people. Somehow, a solution has to come up, which solves a lot of problems, and create fewer problems while doing this. As it is today, night high pop server, have a blast (at least ingame reward like) steamrolling everybody else at nighttime.
I think it is very hard to come up with a solution which pleases the night low pop servers, without somehow making some people on the high pop servers mad. But those on high pop servers who actually wants a fight, will love this change, as it actually creates nighttime PvP instead of nighttime Pv[Structure].
If you play on a server with low population at nights, you would very well know that the current mechanics is a problem, by experience. If you play on a high pop, you may only know it from hearsay, which you may or may not trust to be valid.
But personally, I don’t find it fun to be not really be able to put up a fight, simply because I play on a server which is vastly outnumbered at night.
I think Lappdancers correction to my original ideas are right on spot, though I am not 100% sure about no 2., but I am inclined to think it is still a better idea than comparing to lowest population server.
Keep it coming guys, it might evolve into something usefull.
15 year old troll spotted !
Go to school, and stay there !
I think dynamic population limit could be a way to solve some of the problems of WWW. It may need to be paired with other solutions though.
Dynamic, could be that no server is allowed to have more than 50% more people than the lightest server in the matchup.
But as I wrote, it probably needs to be paired with some other solution to work probably, or some people would feel heavily punished.
Perhaps the matchup mechanics should include some sort of population count at the off hours, pairing the heaviest populated off hour population servers with the heaviest. Thus creating an enviroment where winning is more about here-and-now coordination, instead of the current enviroment, where it is all about getting people to play at off hours.
Other mechanics may also have to be in place to avoid exploiting this limit.
I may be all wrong about this idea, but please keep a friendly tone nevertheless.
+1
As long as the prize is something small and not really significant for stats. Rewarding winners too heavily has been done in other MMO’s. It will only make it easier for them to win the next time. In the end this makes some people quit PvP and some people move their chars to winning servers. Neither is good for balancing.

I just find it silly that it is population which is dictating who’s on top of the ladder. And I am not alone with this point of view. Being skilled and coordinated during your prime time, means zip zero if noone is online to protect your structures at other hours.
If population is dictating everything then why is Eredon Terrace (medium pop during US offpeak) ranked #4 and currently kicking the tail of 2 unofficial Oceanic servers (both high pop during US offpeak). These are facts, not conjecture.
And if you don’t like losing things during offpeak then get your own offpeak players to do something about it. 3 medium servers and the rest high during Oceanic prime time proves that almost everyone has a healthy offpeak pop. Again, these are facts not conjecture.
I play on low pop at night, not medium. I play on EU server. Btw, you tell me to do something about it. Exactly what do you want me to do to make people stay online during off hours?
You act like it is my fault that people are not online during those hours, and my responsibility to fix. You act like it is the players responsibility to fix the high pop vs low pop issue at some hours. ANet could provide mechanics which would fix it (dynamic pop limit), making it medium pop vs medium pop, without moving any players around between servers. As I wrote elsewhere, people don’t only leave WWW because they need sleep, but also because of having little to no chance of getting any points (catch-22). At this point the only outcome of the WWW is a bleeding wallet and close to zero rewards. Don’t blame the player for an unfair matchup system please.

Btw, the population problem creates a catch-22. People generally don’t like getting steamrolled, so many of them who are still online at off hours will simply leave the WWW at that hour, making the problem even worse. I don’t blame them.

It’s not MEANT to be a completely fair matchup where all sides have their team numbers balanced perfectly.
You are right, it isn’t meant to be completely fair matchup. On the other hand, I don’t think it’s meant to be completely unfair, as it often happens to be on some servers.
Btw, your wall of text and your clever header doesn’t make you look intelligent. It makes you look arrogant. The difference is huge.
PvP =! Steamrolling around a map, capping everything because noone is around to protect it.
I don’t even see the fun part of doing this from the steamrolling point of view. But I guess you like Player vs Structure. Because PvP it certainly isn’t.
WvW night capping/whining/unbalance can be solved with a fairly easy fix.

Dynamic population limit will fix the unfairness of PvP. But will also leave some people out of PvP who would be in otherwise. (though it really isn’t PvP when you are just steamrolling everything, without any resistance.)
Why night capping is fair and why you shouldn't complain about it.

OP is totally neglecting the fact that some servers are even (pop wise) during daytime, but uneven at night.
There is hardly any “war” or “fighting” about night-capping vs a thin populated server.
Borderlands: What happens, at about 24-02 at night, is that Gandara is starting to log off, though not all. People are still around. Suddenly people realize that the other servers are just zerging those 50 people still around. Those 50 people realize that getting molested without a shred of a chance, is not fun in any way, and go to Eternal BG. When EBG thins out too, same stuff happens, and people realize that this isn’t fun either, and goes to PvE.
Current mechanics create a catch-22 situation.
When morning rises, Gandara comes back online, and realizes that a steep uphill fight is about to take place. It is not fair in anyway, despite OP’s claim.
Something needs to be done to fix this issue. I love PvP, but getting steamrolled because you are vastly outnumbered at night, is not fun in anyway.
