The timer is a problem. The way it is, it doesn’t add difficulty, it just makes you wait to try again when your group doesn’t stack and dps him hard enough. There’s nothing difficult about that, and it’s just an easy way they can force a fail out of the fight that was otherwise going fine.

They could have done something far more interesting, as Valor said. Have Teq pushing to achieve goals of some sort, and you have to quickly switch tactics to keep him from achieving his goals for as long as possible to buy enough time to kill him, because if he succeeds his goals then he wins, instead of him just going ‘LOL times up kittenes!’ and running off. Protecting the laser is the closest that the event comes to doing this part right, but with the overall timer overriding your success or failure on the laser defense then it doesn’t really matter.

Hidden "Achievement" Problem.

It’s possible that at some point it’s going to be worth points. I am not sure I like hidden achievements either though. I like to know what I am going for.

The problem isn’t hidden achievements, the problem is rewarding failure. People are going to want to fail the event just to get this, and yes, giving a shiny badge that does nothing other than being a shiny badge is a reward that people will go for.

+1 no rewards for fails.

Once again, challenges are challenging.

Oh the fight actually isn’t all that challenging. Do you know how to stack? Good. Do you know how to dodge roll or jump? Good. Do you know how to not stand in red circles? Good.

Unfortunately, there’s 40 other idiots that you can’t do anything about that don’t know how to do those things and lay there dead the entire fight, but they scale up the encounter. Not Good. You can’t pick who gets to be there because it is open world content, when it probably should have been instanced raid material (that’s pretty much how its getting done now as people rig the overflow system to get mostly the people they want on the map). Not Good. It is on an a timer that has no in game indication on when it will happen, so you get to just sit there and do NOTHING until it decides to spawn. Not Good.

Sorry, but this content sucks, and it has nothing to do with the ‘challenge’ of it.

So, the real problem emerges...

Yeah you pretty much got it.

The event itself is great, but it’s a failure due to all the other problems. The way the game is currently designed, it actually encourages people to fail it.

And as you said, as people finally get their achieve after wasting hours of their time waiting for the one time that the stars align, they’ll move on to something where they don’t have to deal with morons, because who wants to deal with that?

When's the nerf coming?

It doesn’t need to be nerfed, it needs to be fixed.

Right now your success rides primarily on the actions of others, not on your own.

Are there trolls/afks on the turrets? You’re not going to win.
Are there dead people laying there not WPing? You’re not going to win.
Are people wasting time trying to rez the dead instead of just rezing the down? You’re not going to win.

You can’t do anything at all about those things, because it’s not you doing it, it’s others who are doing the wrong thing. It doesn’t matter how good you are, you’re not going to win.

Unfortunately, this event and even the game’s design is going to encourage failure.

There’s 6 turrets, they’re the ‘cool toy’ that only a select few get to play with in the fight, so you’re going to have people who grab one and then go afk waiting for the fight to start, then they just sit afk while the fight is going because they really aren’t there. It’s also a very easy way for one person to troll everyone there, just park your kitten on a turret and aim it the wrong direction and laugh it up while the entire map yells, unable to do anything about it.

We’re taught over and over again, rez your fellow players. You get rewarded XP every time you do. People see a sea of little markers floating over all the dead bodies, so what do they do? They spend 20 seconds trying to rez one person, and often just get downed themselves, doing zero damage during that time span. Dead people just sit there typing ‘help’ instead of running back, because it’s easier to just wait for a rez.

This boss shows up periodically, with no in game indication of when. The only way you’ll fight it without just being really stupidly lucky to happen across that area at just the right moment is to log in, park your character there, and afk while you wait. I’m sure a lot of those people step away from the computer to do something else with their time, and many of them don’t get back during the fight, so you have afks everywhere scaling up the fight. Not to even mention the ridiculous overflow situation (I haven’t been able to get on my server in Sparkfly since this content was released, not even once).

This content is getting ruined by the game’s design. There’s nothing wrong with the event itself. It’s a dragon, it should be hard to kill. But it is also open world content, and adjustments should be made to make sure non-participants don’t ruin it for those who are trying. Evidence that it can be good content is seen by those servers that have beaten the overflow system with guesting and partying to put as many participating players as possible into a single instance, and keep the non-participants out. This fight can be fun, and can be challenging yet beatable, but only if you rig the current system by making sure the majority of players present are chosen, not randomly showing up like world content should be.

A nice try, but no, this content has too many problems to be called anything other than a failure. When the non-participants can’t screw it up for everyone else, then it’ll be good content.

I found that if I time my shouts just right, I can get my norn warrior to say..

“Shake it for great justice! FEAR ME!”

Then just do a /dance while everyone runs away.

Network Lag [Merged]

Still laggin. Been going on since early October, before that things were perfect but ever since the invisible players thing happened it just hasn’t been the same. Very common in WvW to see 2 and 3 second delays often, and uncommonly up to 10+ second delays before my abilities go off and things start responding around me again.

As you can imagine.. this makes WvW suck.

I’ve used speedtest.net to make sure I don’t have something bottlenecking here, and haven’t seen a bandwidth problem. Started using a network monitoring tool to see if anything funky is happening while the game is running and the only thing I can tell there’s a sudden big increase in the KB/s exactly when a lag spike hits (see attachment). This makes me think there’s some big pulse of data flooding the client, instead of lack of data.

Standing around town shows 5 to 10 KB/s on my network monitor. A WvW fight goes up to around 40 KB/s, but the lag spike recorded over 100 KB/s right at the moment of the spike. I figured I’d see a drop, not an increase, so this really confuses me on what’s going on here. It almost looks like a flood of data hits all at once during a spike.
