It was a really stupid decision on their part that you effectively can’t play through the new content with elite specs.
You don’t hype up “Oh boy, look at this new way you can play because you’re bored of playing the same way you have for 3 years” and then put it behind a grind. And then by the time you get to actually play in a new way, you don’t have much of the new content left to do.
Put gear, trophies, achievements, etc behind a grind, that’s all fine. But new play styles? Hell no.
Core game is free, 50$ – cost of expansion WITH core game as present.
They said their reason for charging $50 was because it also included the core game, though. The only other recent MMO I know of that charged $50 for an expansion was WoW, and there were a lot of complaints over the price as it was pretty high compared to other MMO expansion prices.
I’m just confused if their reason for charging so much is because it includes the base game, why not make a cheaper option for people who already own the base game then?
But why do I have to buy the base game along with it when I already own it? Couldn’t you have made a cheaper option for people who already own the game? Why is that not an option?
Think of it not so much as a specialization to play, as something to get for finishing the rest of the content so you can stick it on a shelf.
It’s like a trophy.
It would make more sense to make it an achievement or a trophy and not a new play style, then. Really questionable design decision.
ok. look. do have any idea how stupid you look when you buy a game that is advertised as not having set trinity roles and then go into the forum and asking for tank and healer roles?
like, im not going to go on the Black Desert (another mmo i play) forums and ask for weapon swap. it’s against the design of the game that i ‘bought’, and i bought the game knowing it was intentionally not included.
play the game you want to play dude.
I heard they were adding in more challenging PVE content and I hope that meant adding in the need for more healing/support or damage mitigation.
Without the stats there wouldn’t be anything to keep people who like the idea of actually being able to distinguish themselves in a roleplaying game interested.
I mean let’s face it, this game has basically eliminated all actual character from your characters. Thousands of build options, yet nobody gets to be unique because it’s so easy to switch from one to the other that you’re always just expected to have whatever the meta is. The only thing you can’t switch on a whim is gear because it takes a significant amount of time to earn the various sets, and even here people don’t want to allow anyone to have a shred of uniqueness.
The whole point of busting up the trinity should be to allow people to play how they want. That’s not what you get with GW2 though. It’s more restrictive than ever. Pre-determined builds, everyone in the same gear, every character is just a blank slate for the meta. Flowing neatly into any mold isn’t freedom. Being allowed to have whatever shape you like is.
This is exactly how I feel about the game. In GW1 I played a Ritualist and healed in PVP, and in PVE I played a Signet of Spirits build, micro managing my spirits and healing my hero party members and spirits. I pretty much hardly ever attacked people unless it was mostly auto attack. I enjoy that kind of play style, it is a lot more interesting to me than everyone just attacking guys like a game of whack-a-mole. I miss all the different play styles you had in GW1 compared to GW2, hopefully the new expansion brings in more and different ones.
pick one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_games
Seriously, you say the game is great, yet you want such a fundamental change of its core design that will completely change it into something very different. That makes no sense at all. Maybe it will be a better game, maybe it will be a worse game – but if you enjoy a game that is completely different from current GW2 more than current GW2, why donĀ“t you just pick one of the million games on the market that offer exactly what you want, which, by your description, will be greater games for you to play.
The game I would pick instead is GW1 then, it had healing classes. Unfortunately for me they no longer update it anymore.
As great as this game is, I’ve just never enjoyed playing a DPS class. Even the classes that are more on the “support” side are still not really enough to quench that thirst to be the one helping your allies.
Is there any possibility at all that they will add healing or tank roles and make combat in the game reflect on that?
PS. Ritualist when?!
So elementalist, guardian, engineer, or warrior.
Might work with the other classes(except thief…) but I haven’t looked into those.
Thanks for the suggestions!
That question is way too broad. Engineers turrets are frequently brought up at being similar to the spirits but spirits was not the only option for playing a ritualist. What aspect of the ritualist are you trying to replicate?
Hmm I’m not sure. Honestly I just enjoyed the whole class in general. Looks have also always been a big thing for me and I really enjoyed how Ritualist armor looked, too. I liked that I was pretty support-y but not a full on healer. I liked sitting in the back lines a lot more helping people from afar.
Lol you need to get over yourselves. There’s a profanity filter and a block option, if you can’t take people swearing, or talking about sex and drugs, then filter them out.
They’re not obligated to mind their manners around you. Remember, online actions and interactions are not rated by the ESRB.
It’s not there so players are free to use vulgar and profane language.
I think that’s pretty silly. Even teen rated TV shows are allowed some profanity. I think simple undirected swearing is fine in a teen rated game, and the profanity filter should be there for people who want the choice to not see it. WoW is also rated as a teen game and their characters frequently use profanity in their dialogue.
In my opinion, this game has one of the worst communities I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe not as bad as diablo 2 but still… pretty bad especially in sPvP and here on the forums.
Pshh no way. I used to play WoW and I can tell you with 100% certainty GW2 is like an overly friendly church compared to it. That is pretty much what I hear from tons of people I know who came from WoW to GW2, “Wow the people are so friendly and willing to help”.
I’m having a lot of trouble deciding on a class I enjoy in GW2, I played and enjoyed Ritualist the most in GW1. What class in GW2 would you say is something Ritualist players from GW1 would enjoy the most? Or did you play a Ritualist in GW1 and what do you play in GW2?
Thanks!
I don’t think many people really understand the idea of April Fools’ Day. Maybe they’ve never played pranks before? Or maybe they’ve only had them played on them and they’re bitter?
Anet status:
April Fools’ = success
I laughed about it. No fun allowed I guess?
It’s a game where you play as people pretending to be airplanes. Is this where Anet got their idea for April Fools?
I believe they have said they are doing living stories in an attempt to give the game a more live feel. If something good sticks around too long it becomes stagnated. However, when it is taken away before this can happen, you are left with your nostalgia. There are indeed pros and cons to this tactic, but this is simply how Anet wants to do things. They are experimenting with what works and what doesn’t. If it doesn’t pan out as planned you can expect them to stop.
I think a better question is why do we have to go through 6 months of beta testing for them to have something not pan out.
It’s sort of difficult to get an idea if something will work or not before they do it at least once. This IS their living story.
In all honesty it shouldn’t be a hard decision. Add a dungeon people can do for years or add a dungeon maybe if they are lucky half the people currently playing now will see.
You tell me which one would be better for the longevity of the game.
The latter, because people would keep coming back to experience content that will only be around for a short period of time. Rather than knowing it will be around forever and they can come back at any time. And that is essentially something you must have in a B2P game. Content that entices people to keep coming back.

I think it is hilarious that you quit the game because of this before LOL.
It’s called research, I did it and only had to transfer once to get the server that was perfect for me. You are making this soooooo much more complicated than it needs to be.
I quit the game before because I had to wait another week to be able to play again. And I just said forget it and went to play something else instead that managed to grab my attention.
I had heard about the new content in GW2, but I guess I won’t even get to attempt to experience it until a week from now. I’m sorry, but I’m not even high level in this game and I’ve barely played it, not because I didn’t want to, but because every time I’ve tried to I’ve been met with some sort of restriction and I’ve just given up instead. That isn’t very “new player” friendly.
Unfortunately, that’s just the way the game is. It’s an automatically imposed transfer cooldown so people can’t just keep transferring for whatever reason. In all honesty, do what people are saying and just guest on different homeworlds until you find the one you want and your cooldown wears off. You can guest to two different servers every 24 hours, so in 6 days I’m sure you’ll find a good home.
In other news, HoD has a great community.
But then I’ll have to make a new character if I want to guest anywhere, and when I can finally transfer again, I’ll have to pay money, or delete my character and start over again on the new server I want, when instead I should just be able to start over new on the server I want right now, and delete my character and start over again somewhere else if I want to. But instead I have to wait 6 days to be able to start over new. Can you see why that is really annoying and doesn’t make any logical sense?
I don’t understand why guesting is any different than what you are doing. You could not be doing much on the char you create as you intend to delete it anyway. Why not create a low level char and guest on a server for a couple hours, then move to another for a couple of hours. This is no different than transferring playing for a few hours and deleteing and transdferring again.
What if in the period of those 6 days I find a server I want to stay on? I’m going to have to wait before I can fully settle myself on there. I won’t be able to progress a character because I will either have to eventually delete it or pay money to transfer it, so I’m not able to play for a possible period of 6 days. That is pretty much where I’m at now. I don’t see the point in making a new character when I have all these restrictions and even if I do guest I’m not going to be able to fully pick a server I want to play on in possibly 6 days from now. At this point I don’t even know if I want to play at all if I have to jump through all these hoops just to be able to pick a server to call home.
What server are you on now and what servers are you looking at. Maybe some of us on the forums can help you narrow it down so you only have to do this one more time. You can narrow it down and spend the next 6 days guesting on a couple to see how you like them. What are you looking for in a server?
What’s the point? I’m just going to have to delete it after 6 days anyway for sure. If this restriction wasn’t here, then if I picked a home world and enjoyed it, I wouldn’t have to delete my character to be able to stay there, I could just stay there and keep progressing. It just seems pointless to me at this point to try to keep playing when I know I won’t be able to freely pick a home world that I want to keep characters on and be able to progress them.
If you delete all your toons you can transfer once a week for free, not hard to understand.
But now I have to wait a week to really actually play. Why should I even bother playing at all now?
you’re right, it doesn’t make sense. should send in a ticket.
Is a suggestion a good reason to send in a ticket though? That’s why I posted about it here instead, first.

Yeah it will still be free after your cd is off. They have a cool down of 7 days before you can transfer again. Not sure why you would need to transfer more than that anyways. If you are not sure of a server be sure to use guesting while you wait for the transfer cd to expire.
It just doesn’t make sense to me why I’m not able to freely transfer when I don’t have any characters at all. If I delete all of my characters on my account, I should be able to start over new wherever I want without a cooldown or something.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Account-transfer/first#post1427223
You can transfer free if you have no characters on your account.
From the wiki:The transfer fee is only charged if you have characters on your account; in other words, if your account has no characters or you delete all existing characters first, you will be prompted to select a new home world after creating a new character, free of charge.
I have tried exiting my client and reopening it, but I am still not able to transfer home worlds. I transferred yesterday to the home world I’m on now, and I deleted the one character I had on it, but it says I am on a 6 day cooldown.
Guesting is free. Why don’t you guest until you find the homeworld you want stay on and then move saving you all this headache.
I am making one character to try out a class and the homeworld, so I don’t mind deleting them and starting over if I want to.

Guest on other servers in the meantime?
That’s what I’m going to do, but it still doesn’t make sense to have such a restriction in my opinion. I hope they change it.
It doesn’t make any sense to me why if I delete all of my characters, I’m not able to freely switch home worlds. I still have the cooldown and now I’m stuck on a home world I tried and didn’t like. If I delete all of my characters, I should be able to pick a new home world to create new characters on freely.
I just came back to the game and I wasn’t sure where I wanted to play, but now I’m stuck on this home world I don’t want to be on, and I have to wait to pick a new one. So now I don’t even know if I should bother. I want to find a home that suits me, but I’m restricted even if I want to start over new somewhere else and have no high level characters at all. Seriously, this doesn’t make any sense to me.
I’ve played pretty much every MMO on the market and some no longer on the market, and I have to say, I disagree with this article completely. I enjoyed all, if not most, of the things he seemed to not like about the game, and all it has led me to think is that this guy does not have similar tastes as me and to not trust his opinion. Because that’s all it is, just this one person’s opinion. Except this guy can put his on the internet for a lot more people to see. That is the only difference. This is why I generally can’t take “video game journalism” seriously. What makes this guy’s tastes in video games more important than someone elses’? Nothing at all.

There is a flaw in the system. The game has quite a bit of content that requires farming, yet it tries to hinder your farming. This leads to player frustration. And I’m not just talking about legendaries – I’m okay with them being very hard to obtain.
For example, I set myself the goal of getting a corrupted branch staff. It’s there in the game, and I thought it might be a fun goal for my endgame. This requires 30 corrupted lodestones. Having completed the Frostgorge Sound map playing normally I had none. Zero. So if I want to get that weapon I clearly have to farm, yet I’m consitently being hampered by the game in this. It’s not really that great a system.
How does it hinder you in your farming?
How doesn’t it? You do know what DR is, right? Diminishing Returns on rewards. It’s a direct counter to farming. The way it works if if you kill one type of an enemy too much you will start to get DR, and it works in other mysterious ways too.
Acquisition of Corrupted Lodestones
Icebrood (of high levels)
Corrupted foes (of high levels)
Some Ice Elementals (of high levels)
Chests within Honor of the Waves (explorable mode)
Chests within Fractals of the Mists
I’m okay with this. It’s their answer to the favor of the gods from GW1 IMO, except instead it doesn’t limit people for playing at certain times to farm (when there is a blessing). So people can farm at any time they want, but then it has limits set in place for them like the favor of the gods had.

There will never be zero grind in any MMO, and to promise such a thing is foolish, and to expect such a thing will ever happen is just as foolish.
Ah, because WoW and its clones have a lot of grind, so all MMOs need to have grind to be successful, right?
TOR has a lot of grind. That did great for them, didn’t it? Aion has a lot of grind, and it has been a big failure in the West. Rift has a lot of grind, and it’s Christmas gift to its employers was a bunch of layoffs.
The old MMO model, based on grind, is dead. Claiming a MMO needs grind to survive is as foolish as claiming MMOs need the holy trinity to survive.
I never said they needed grind to survive, you did.
The thing is, MMOs are grinds, timesinks, that is how the genre has always been and will always continue to be, even if you try to innovate it, you are still always essentially making a character and grinding towards progressing them, even if you can’t notice the grind sometimes over other times.

1st transfer is instant, them you have to wait 7 days to before you are allowed to make another change.
Even if you delete all your characters?
If I delete all my characters on a world, can I then select a new world, even if I have already done a “transfer” to that world and am still in the waiting period? How can I go about doing this?
I have just started the game so none are high enough to matter, so no worries there.
My friend who strictly played a ritualist in GW1 said that the engineer is the closest in his opinion. There isn’t a class that is exactly like a ritualist.
Can they be as support-y as a Ritualist? I liked that I could be support-y and offensive at the same time without having to switch out anything and the build worked well together.
Hi, I came from GW1 and am just starting out, but since there is no Ritualist in GW2 (I hope not yet anyway!), I was wondering, is there another profession that is close to it or similar?
