A lot has been said on this topic, some suggestions have been made to find a compromise. I was wondering if an Anet representative could come discuss it with us or give us some news on this project. Will our suggestions be taken into account? Maybe not for this update but for another one.
Hope we get some answers in the stream today.
“Guesting is coming” makes me think of “Winter is coming” =p
Well I guess you kinda expected to have another infraction point with your post but at least it was awesome thanks for the laugh.
And yeah we are complaining, but I think that people came up with some solutions as well who could probably be implemented. A we will look at what can be done will surely calm everyone for quite some time and will let some time for Anet to think until the new announcement they make (makes me think of back in the days when I was a moderator in some online game=p)
Martin, I think that everyone understands that you guys are doing that so that everyone can be able to play properly. I personally live in the USA and play on an European data center just for playing with my friends. I am yet to see lags. But this is not the point.
As people say, if you could come up with a compromise most people would be happy with it. An international server for instance, with no WvW attached to it, only PvE. You could also make a paid option for it. You will still have to play in your WvW base home world but you could transfer for PvE purpous for what? 40 bucks a year?
Just do not force people to play on empty servers at night. I do not want to play a game empty of people and it is just not the game you guys created. Provide us with a viable alternative and I am sure a lot of people will actually accept it.
PS: CaptainFabulous.8410 your post made me laugh thank you =p
Well, GW1 used to be divided into regions as well, for a long time actually.
That’s not quite correct, since cross-continent guesting was enabled from day 1 in GW1 – it was called “International Districts”. Only actual moving between home territories was restricted.
I think that moving to an international server will be fine with a lot of people. The only complaint here is that we just can’t play with our friends and have to choose, which sucks.
You guys do understand that transferring your character data to another center costs money right?
What costs money? Having a server send information over the internet? Well that’s what the guesting is doing. But lets suppose you’re right, make me pay 40$ a year to be able to transfer to one specific (I do not care which one) NA server as much as I want, I will gladly take this option. And no I am not talking about WvW or anything else, I am just talking about running dungeons when I can’t find anyone on my server to do so just because people are sleeping.
So basically with the guesting system, you will be able to play on whatever server you want to play to run dungeons and PvE.
Euuuh … sorry but can’t we already do that?
During the 4+ months that the game exists, we have adapted to play with each other. Now you are just telling us that we can continue to do it. What is the point in the guesting system then?
It seems like everything about this guesting feature is done for WvW and you did not think about PvE. What you present to us today, we already have it.
EU to NA and NA to EU guesting was what people awaited. You just gave us a pretty speech full of nothing. EU players will still be in empty servers at night and so will NA players. Preventing both regions from playing.
I love this game but I am extremely disappointed in this guesting feature. If you need to make us wait to be guested in a different region that’s fine. Just do not force us to choose between our EU and NA friends for the sake of WvW balance.
I hope you guys will read this thread and explain the the why, the how and future improvements.
Nothing more to say that guesting is very disappointing and that I agree with what the post is asking.
Hey everyone, as indicated in the title I need to chose a new server.
I am currently playing night shifts on an European server, which is horrible!
The new guesting system will allow me to play on an American server while being able to guest over in Europe (at least I hope so).
Now my question is: can anyone help me pick a server?
I am searching for a server with significant PvE population (especially fractals/dungeons/and RP) while not being horrible at WvW. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Thanks
6. With the new guesting feature, what if my friends are on american/europe servers or vise versa, as of current it seem like it wouldn’t work.
My concern exactly. Right now I am just checking the forum every hour to know if I should change server while it is free or just wait for the guesting to be there.
Honestly I do not see why we should have restrictions because as said, we can use overflows as much as we want if we want to repeat events (like it happened for the lost shore one)
However if it is what it takes to be able to be guesting NA people over EU and the opposite that’s fine with me. I just do not want to chose between the people I want to play with like I am doing now. They announced that the guesting will solve this problem but without more info on it I just do not know what we can expect =x
Anyone knows if the guesting from EU to NA and NA to EU was available in the beta? Anyone knows if it will be available in the future? Coz I really do not care about the WvW I just wanna play with my friends in both NA and EU and this announcement is kinda leaving me clueless of what will happen =x
I do not really like to say that but I agree that this blog post did not give us any new info. It just put all the information in one place, which is great as well but still no new info =x
For instance here is what is said on the post
To encourage players to stick with a single server for WvW and fight for the pride of that server, server changes will incur a fee and have time limitations.
Ok so when is the last day for us to change server? Will the guesting work with any region of the world? (guest in EU someone in NA and the opposite)
Other than wanting more precise communication from the team, I love the game, keep up the good work (and please do not make us be stuck on our server without warning^^)
Hello,
I am creating this topic because, as the subject specifies, I would like to kinda know more about guesting.
We know that the guesting feature will not come with the January update, or at least, it does not seem like it (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guesting-for-pve-timeline)
Now my question is not about when but more of how will it work?
So far we know that we will be able to transfer from one server to another to play PvE with other people. So not dungeons but actual PvE since it is already possible for dungeons.
But will we be able to transfer from a NA server to a EU server? Or will we be stuck in our region?
Also, will the people guesting will have to be in the same alliance? In the same group? If you quit the group, will you be “unguested”?
I assume that Anet can’t really talk about this right now, since it is not done yet. However, many people are waiting for some info to kinda plan some server change or some inter server guilds etc.
Anything on this subject would be most welcome. =)
Also what do you (other players) think that this guesting feature should work?
Okay thanks for the answer=)
Just to make sure, is there anyone lvl 50 and up who can confirm this?
Hey everyone,
I am currently at lvl 31 for the fractals. Yet I do not see a big change in how much I get by doing it. Today I did my daily 30 (like every day) and only got a fractal skin (that was of no use to me). I did my lvl 20 and got tons of cores and golds.
My question is: Is leveling up worth it?
I know some people are already at lvl 80 or at least 30+. Can anyone of you tell me if it is worth it to go higher? Or do you do it just to be a better player?
Thanks=)
This 5 idea is really nice.
I have tons of rings in my bank that I just keep in case something comes up with the new update. Please make them part of a recipe =)
Also, maybe we could trade fractal weapons to what we are actually looking for? I currently have a staff and a torch. On my warrior, lets say that this is pretty much useless -_-’
I don’t know why people here think they know more about the economy than an economist.
I do not think people are saying that they are better than an economist, all that they are saying is that they do not specifically agree with the method used to solve a specific problem.
In economy, you have different theories that belong to different movements, most famous one probably being the invisible hand by Adam Smith stating that the market will regulate itself if no exterior resources are used to try to make it shift ( the government for instance).
This is probably what Anet tried to do when they decided to have a trading post and no player to player trading like in guild wars 1. And they actually succeeded. The market in the game is pretty much independent ( I assume this, since we do not have specific information about what could Anet do to the market). Everyone needs everything, but resources that are harder to obtain are more expensive. The ones that have the expensive resources have more money because they were lucky enough to have them in their hands or because they took the chance to gamble.
Now the problem that the community is having is that they do not feel that the loot is good enough to follow the rising prices (almost 30s for a glob of ectoplasm) mainly because of the rush to legendary weapons. From that we had some theories saying that it was Anet that was controlling the market to make us buy more gems to turn it into gold. Other said that the market was controlled by players with a lot of resources (which is probably true).
Now this is why I posted this topic in the first place, to know what to expect of the trading post, and how to look at it. Am I really giving money to players who already have a lot of it? Or am I just giving money to players like me who rise their prices because they, just like me, need money to get what they want.
Now what can I do if it is the first one? Well nothing, but it least their wont be any more complains that Anet is controlling the trading post.
This will therefore make us come back to a topic that is already open, which is " are the loot tables broken?" and also something like “what is done to regulate the economy?” might appear. But in a game that values the equality between player, it is just normal=)
(sorry if it might seem a bit complicated, English is not my main language)
Thank you for your interest in this topic John Smith. Since you saw this post, maybe we will get some stats in the following month, that would be cool=)
It takes money to make money essentially.
Yeah I can basically make 1 gold on the trading post with 10 gold investment without taking any risk. But that is sometimes not enough.
One thing they could do would be to allow guesting so we can play on EU and NA servers whenever we want and not have to worry about overflows. But well we gotta wait a bit longer… I highly regret GW1 for that. Changing server at will to get into one with population was nice. (Playing in EU server and wish I could just switch to NA server when people go to bed in EU =x)
At the beginning of the game, John Smith did an excellent work showing us trends on how the game was going, which profession was the most played etc.
I was wondering if we could have one of those now, after 4 months into the game to see how the economy changed. I am asking that because all the threads on this forum are about how some people control the market, how Anet manipulates gem price, etc etc.
Maybe with some sort of official statistics, we would actually know what to think and all this threads who are only whining ones ( no offense here) could maybe be answered all at once by some stats from the economy team.
For those who don’t know what I am talking about, here is a link to what John Smith posted a while back:

Good to know.
Actually I googled and found that: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Movement_speed
So now I know all about speed^^
Kinda not the subject but with the warrior(or guardian) you actually have to move when it comes to fighting, With distance classes, you just well… wait for it to happen. But anyway that’s my opinion =)
To go back to the subject, thieves and elems do not have to use a signet for that. If I am not mistaken the thief has a perma boost and the elem who chooses air as a speciality has one as well ( plus the elem has a boost with the staff and the thief with the bow (he can teleport)).
I am not saying that I would not like my warrior to be faster, but honestly I do not see the problem. I play with the elite, and a greatsword. Almost nobody can keep up with me except some thieves. You just have to manage your cool downs.
Now of course, it is tiring to be last then first then last then first. But I think that warrior being (to me) one of the most complex profession to play, it would be nice to be a bit quicker. Not much but just a bit to allow us to keep up with everyone without to always try to not hit anything with the 5 skill of the greatsword -_-’
You can get up to 33% which is i believe the highest speed bonus in the game.
To do that, you can use any banner (third skill) and the elite. Also, with the greatsword, skill 3 and 5 gives you somewhat of a bonus.
Kinda have the same situation here. I play on a EU server to play with my friends but play during NA hours. Therefore, because there is no guesting feature I’m stuck on a deserted server most of the time.
Any thoughts on when guesting will be implemented? Also, will we have a last chance to change server before the guesting is there? Will there be a warning?
I’ve been doing everything by hand so far, too lazy to actually create an excel formula. Now that i have your document, I can actually keep track of what I do. Thank you so much.
Now just really quick to answer to Snoring. I buy at 1c higher and sell 1c lower, for quick money and not too much risks, as I primary focus on resources that I know people will need. While most of the time, the gap is too small to actually make a profit, in which case, I do not invest, I happen to be making some good money with little effort. So I do not know if this what you call flipping, but it is a pretty good thing to do to make some coins ( so far without any loss).
Yeah I have the same problem here. I have dungeons 2 and 3 at the same time.
I hit 600 on the choir activity and did not get the bell. I feel like that’s what they should give us as a reward.
Good news there is another issue because of this and the group leader thingy who can’t kick, cannot be kicked.
Because she got dc during the boss, we all got dc… Please give us some update about it or anything because this is starting to be really annoying and just prevents us from playing.
I do not think going to single core is a viable option. I did not upgrade my system for 32 bit to 64 bit to go back to my old configuration.
I have the same problem from time to time.
And it cannot come from an “out of memory” problem or 32 bit limitation.
My system is in 64bit, I have a quad core processor and 8gb of ram. Whenever I play, only GW2 and mumble are running.
