Min/Max builds.

Hi everyone.

I have a very basic question. How important is it to optimize build? I am more of a casual player, who want to play some PvP and dungeons sometimes, but I am not interested in being the best PvPer or steamrole any dungeon in my way. So question is, do I need to follow those “pro” builds and guides to be viable in PvP and dungeons, or can I just chill and enjoy this game with whatever build I find to be fun to play for myself and still be some what viable in PvP and dungeons, not just a waste of a team spot?

Oh and if I do need to follow those builds and guides, where can I find not outdated builds and guides for necromancer?

Question about new weapons.

Hi everyone.

About 2 months ago, I saw multiple threads on different class forums, mentioning “the Patch” that will add new weapon options for all classes. After that I wasn’t playing for about 2 months and now, when I am playing this game again, I again noticed few new threads about the same matter.

My question is, what is this “the Patch” people are talking about? Is it just a rumor, or a work in progress by Anet, or a patch with an official release date?

Its not supposed to be a realistic. That doesn’t mean calling a sword a mace is right anymore than a blunderbuss is a rifle.

I know, but “rifle” is just something everyone knows. For example, if I would found in game a weapon called blunderbuss, I’d have to google what the heck is it? While “rifle” is something everyone understand. Rifle=two handed gun. Simple and everyone knows what it is. I mean swords are not siply swords to. there are lots of sword types and some of them can beraly be called swords, but still, calling, for example, a rapier a sword is an easy way to name it, because not everyone are even familiar with the “rapier” word.

Additional fun fact: There is no such thing as a Rifle. Rifling is the process of putting a grooved etching inside the barrel of a longarm, twisted or otherwise. The spiral grooves were originally designed to make the gun easier to clean. It was a fluke that it also caused bullets to spin, making them fly further and straighter.

I wish more gaming companies understood the terms they blithely toss around. Another game I play calls their Heavy Infantry from the Industrial Period “Howitzers”. WHAT?! Anyway, the more you know.

*woosh*rainbow*

The less you know the better you sleep… well, it only refers to mafia and saff, but you got the point. It is called common language (or whatever it is called), what you wrote are detailes most don’t know and don’t even want to know. Yea, I agree, more you know better, but when it comes to a PC game which is made to have fun, all tohse “scientific” and “historical” details are not important.

Not to mention that after being shot in the face you won’t die, you will simply loose few ta da health points. It is very realistic. But once again, not always more realistic means more fun.

Thank you both for answers. I’ll wait for some more opinions/advices, meanwhile reading guides.

What is "Thief"?

Hi dear players.

After playing as guardian and necromancer I decided to try something different. And mainly because I want to see how medium armors looks I decided to choose one of 3 classes that using medium armor. Out of those 3 classes thief looks the most mysterious, mostly because I have absolutely no idea what they do and how. And here are my questions.

What exectly is “thief”? How does their sneak work? I tried out one once, but I haven’t found “sneak” skill anywhere, only few skills that grant invisibility for a second or two, but that just doesn’t feel… sneaky enough. I probably should play more as thief, but I don’t want to waste hours to find out nothing, but disappointment.

Also, what is their role? I suppose it is damage, but if more detailed? Are they like the most squishies, but most damage dealing class? Are they only viable at PvP or also at PvE? Can they be anything else, but damage?

And last, but not least, how effective dual guns are? Dual guns are probably the main reason I want to play this class. Swinging a big sword is sure fun, but shooting people is always more fun.
