Update: Logged in again, and tried to open the chest in the Heart of the Mists.
Got 6 finishers and a PvP Backback item that apparently doesn’t serve any function whatsoever (No stats, no appearance).
So, if you say “It’s once, period, per account.”, that means I’m simply screwed if I want the inventory bag?

Who needs a gamemode that could be lots of fun theoretically to actually BE fun if you can just make some achievement easier.
Also try other products of Anet’s new “Who cares if something is fun, as long as it’s rewarding”-way of thinking: The Karka event and ascended gear.

~40 Minutes of Tower Defense with some friends? Oh boy, count me in!
~40 Minutes of Tower Defense with random strangers? I’d prefer to ram a screwdriver into my knee.

I’ve just logged in, saw that Tixx was standing right next to me (In the Heart of the Mists, not Lion’s Arch, mind you) and talked to him.
He said something about a gift, so I thought why the hell not, and got – nothing.
Then I went to Lion’s Arch, saw Tixx again, this time with a chest next to him, which I couldn’t use, cause I already talked to his evil twin in the Heart of the Mists.
Warning to anyone: Do NOT talk to Tixx in the Heart of the Mists, or you will forfeit your present.

Doing 1 run of lvl 10 fractals + PvE dailies nowadays, then quit the game (Hoping for a ring, but not getting any since about 10 days or so).
Ascended gear made everything else feel completely without value to me.

Some friends and I have been playing fractals since the dungeon came out.
We’re doing lvl 10 to get the daily rewards almost every day.
Problem is: Everyone has at least 2 rings by now, except me. I don’t have a single one. I cannot get infusion, because rings are pure luck to get and backslot items either involve ridiculous amounts of money or ridiculous amounts of time doing fractals.
A friend has 2 rings which are of absolutely no use at all to him, which would be perfect for my character. He even wants to give them to me, only he can’t.
My suggestion is to make the rings tradeable – not on the market, cause that would defeat the grinding purpose – but at least at the end of the fractal where you get them, within the group that gets them.
That way if someone gets his third ring he doesnt need, while someone else gets nothing for the tenth time, at least they would have the option of making it fair.
We actually chose the game because it was supposed to not be luck based or about grind, but this is the exact opposite.
It goes even so far that the playtime itself is fun, but with the rewards and the knowledge that you only have one random chance each day, the end rewards are a total mood killer.
And having frustration be the final aspect of a run can’t be the idea behind it.

All three are true, the problem is that players confuse being able to participate, with having the option to be the best player. What ArenaNet are saying is that you can play the content without having the best gear, but if you want to be the best Worlds PvP player, or play the hardest difficulty dungeon, you need the best gear. But of curse, people only want the easy solution; being able to play casually, and be the best player at the same time. However, the problem is mostly that a lot of players believe that they need the best gear in order to compete, but that is not true at all. You can compete and make a difference with a few random exotics and some masterwork gear, as long as you don’t expect to perform equally to someone with full exotic gear. Gear is really not important, unless you make it so.
Also, advertising is advertising. There are no fake promises, only what you imagine there to be. Advertising is meant to make you buy the product, that is all. The quality of a product can never be determined by the advertising alone.
Some people confuse being able to participate, with having the option to be the best player.
Most MMOs confuse having the most time with being the best player. Guild Wars used not to.
Now it does, because while having the best character does not make you the best player (and this is the part you confused there), it does darn well help.

No.
Yesterday, I found myself logging into the game, and while on the Login screen, realizing that these characters will never feel complete to me, will always be running after a carrot.
I couldn’t choose a character and logged out again.

I’m currently spamming “lfg fractals lv5” in various districts since about half an hour now, hoping for a chance to get the best gear for my toon.
Anyone who remembers how this game was advertised will see that this is wrong at multiple levels.
Still, is there any “tactic” that may fasten up group search?

I like the gameplay. Still, Anet seems to proceed to push players in a direction of how they want them to play the game.
If you play a round with warrior and then decide you feel more like going on with your mesmer – you’re screwed, cause the mesmer hasn’t unlocked difficulty 2.
That’s right, it’s not account relative, so either your guildies have to bite the bullet and play level 1 again, or you have to bite the bullet and not play your mesmer in the fractals.
But if you want ascended gear to stay up to par you’re kind of forced to progress in difficulty, therefore forced to play the same class all the time.
Motivation-wise, it’s a lose-lose situation for me in an otherwise great gameplay concept.

I just logged in and saw that i lost 100 achievement points, which is about the amount I got when I checked whether this was a bug.
Does that mean this has been fixed?

This question only works if the majority of the games population answers this question. For that the majority of the players would have to be on the forums. I’m pretty sure more than half of the people who play never visit the forums.
So who were the people that were for it? Because Linsay states that the decision was made due to feedback of the community. Well, it’s certainly not THIS community, I think that is pretty obvious now.

I read that sentence as an sarcastic insult to the face of every person who followed this company for 7 years.
† November 16th, 2012
Yeah, please make an official announcement whether I can create multiple toons that feel “complete” in the end. Cause that’s what I bought the game for. If you’re gonna make that impossible, tell us soon, cause I will need to look for a game that still has that possibility.

Reposting this, for great justice.

Look at all you knee jerk reaction people. Seriously wait till its released to complain or make judgements.
Yeah right, dont stop them from building the bomb, but wait for it to be dropped on some poor country and then complain.
You, sir/madam, are a prime example of what is wrong with the modern generation. So waiting until we have FACTs instead of random speculation is whats wrong with the modern generation? Seriously dude if thats whats WRONG then I dont want to be right.
What is your “generations” plan? Speculate beforehand and ruin things before they even start?
If we wait till it’s released we wait till it’s too late. If we wait till we get official information on it, we probably also wait until it’s too late, because the GW2-Edition of ArenaNet prefers not to inform players wtf is going on.
I don’t wanna ruin things before they start, but I prefer to step on the brakes BEFORE the car hits the wall.

The “Tinkerer” caps at 30 transmuted items. However, there seems to be a hidden “Hobby Tinkerer” title, which is not capped. By repeadedly using HOM rewards to change the skin of an item again and again and again, you can get an infinite amount of achievement points without playing.
