I’m in exactly the same boat! I looked over some stuff over at DnT but I didn’t find any of it particularly useful.
Thanks for the replies so far. I’ll be taking all of this into consideration.
Guys, I’ve been gone for about 6 months(ish) from the game. When I left I told myself that I wouldn’t get back in because I was done with this game. Now a family member has gotten the game and is really getting into it. Now here’s the question to you guys: Do I get back in? Is it worth it? Some follow up stuff for you to answer:
1. How much has changed? I know Lion’s Arch got finished or something like that.
2. Has much changed in the way of the “meta”? All zerk with warriors, ele’s, thief/guardian is what it was when I left.
3. Has the state of the Necro’s changed much? I guess any class for that matter.
That’s all I can think of. Thanks for everyone’s help with this
Glad I’m not the only one. Thanks for your replies.
I like the idea behind banners, but I guess I’ll throw out something different for conversations sake. It looks likes the specializations will be tied to the new weapon that each class gets. Currently the weapons we can’t use are: dagger, pistol, scepter, focus, torch, short bow, staff and trident. Let’s go ahead and mark of scepter and focus. I would also be inclined to mark of torch since it would be hard(ish) to make a specialization revolve around an offhand. I see no reason for us to get a short bow or pistol since we already have rifle and long bow. We are left with staff, dagger and trident. With a staff I can see being some sort of kungkitteninspired class that’s a combo of hammer and great sword. Dagger…I have no idea because the assassin type role is already taken by Thief. Trident? Why? Because this:
Everything Silv said.
It sounds like you are “min maxing” so I can’t comment too well on what to equip there. I can tell you that my wife is pretty casual and we put Ogre’s on her Guardian and she absolutely loves it. The Dog can be pretty handy in open world pve when she’s traveling by herself.
While not the case of all the comments in this thread, I often feel like the class sub-forums tend to focus on spvp and wvw more than pve. This is largely do to the fact that any class can be viable in pve. Maybe not optimal, but not to the point where it’s unplayable.
I will echo the other sentiments though. Play what you like. There’s also nothing wrong with having a bunch of characters at 80. I have 6 classes there now and I plan on doing the other 2 classes sometime soon before HoT.
Warrior no feel. Only feel is smash. MORE SMASH!!!
Every time that I log into the game my camera always resets even though sliders are still set to the way they were when I last logged off. I’ve noticed that the reset only happens when I completely log off. I can switch between characters just fine.
Here’s a screen shot of my camera settings just in case something I’ve done is causing the reset.
I’m not sold on the stances as our new F-key mechanic, but I guess it makes sense. Not sure what I was expecting, but just the idea of how a long bow will change the entire way our class is supposed to “feel” doesn’t get me very excited. Guardian already has access to a lot of weapons, so I guess the options are sort of limited. As will be the case for Warrior.
I would definitely like to see a separation of both game modes. If not, then I think that we should have build templates to easily load up a different build for Stronghold. Even they said that people were using much different builds there that differed from the current meta. It makes no sense for a Thief to change up his build to just suit Stronghold when it really doesn’t benefit the majority of the other maps.
That being said (I don’t want to be too negative) I am really interested in Stronghold and looking forward to getting a chance to hop in game and see how it all plays out.
Legendary Weapons - an appeal to ArenaNet

Back in the day I was also hoping that Legendary weapons would be more than just a new skin. I felt that each legendary should have some sort of power that no other weapon of its type had. I get why that can’t happen, but it would have been a cool idea imo.
I plan on running through the story and world completion and such on my warrior. After the hype dies down, I will probably make a Revenant. A large factor will also be if we get the extra character slot(s) that they gave us for the new GW1 expansions/games.
60$ is too much for only 1 wvw map, 1 area 1 class…20$ would be fine.
I imagine we’ll see something along the lines of $40.
Also, Gaile are you allowed to tell me if we will be getting extra character slots with the expansion, like in GW1, or will we need to purchase them through the gem store?
If you really want my opinion, I don’t think we are going to see a release until August. It coincides with the original GW2 release date and will be very close to the beginning of a fiscal quarter for them. I hope it will be sooner, but I’m not going to get excited until they announce something definitively.
Any class can be viable in PvE. If you are worried about getting kicked from PUGs for being a certain class, then I suggest you find a guild that doesn’t care about your class and does stuff for fun. I play both Necro and Warrior. Warrior for when I want to PUG and Necro for when I want to have fun and mess around with guildies or WvW.
Does anyone know of a good video selection to watch for learning to play Engi? I’m really new to the class and don’t know a lot of people that play it, so I’m looking to watch some open world PvE and dungeons to see if I’m playing the class “right.” Right now I feel like I’m just either spamming nades or bombs. I can’t help but feeling that I’m not doing it right. Thanks in advance.
Zerker armor, PVT or something completely different?
Do you have a link to that build, or at least what are the important skills in each line?
NeXed, or anyone else that doesn’t run conditions, what build do you run? I’ve been away from the game for awhile now, and when I left condi staff Necros were tearing it up in WvW zerg. Is some sort of zerk power build the new meta?
Have you tried Knight’s armor?
In my opinion, so I might be way off the mark, people that complain are looking at it from a PvE perspective. Just like in the beginning of GW1, the game was balanced around PvP. It came much later when ANet started making a PvE and a PvP version of skills.
Also, this is a much different team that’s working on GW2 than the original. A lot of the original team is no longer with the company and/or created their own companies, i.e. Undead Labs.
Just my opinion, so if I’m off the mark sorry for my blabbering :P
Instead of going full zerk, you might try having her buy Knight’s armor and slowly work her into full zerk. I’m not saying you can’t get DPS from other places, but I personally feel that the best way to get DPS faster is with zerker gear.
Spoj, are you still using the build from the guide in your signature? Just a noob looking for answers
The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I needed to make some slight changes to my build and gear, but once I started playing again it all came back really fast. Just have fun with the game. If you aren’t having fun then you owe it to yourself to find a game that is fun. GLHF.
I doubt they’ll ever offer one. You’ve stated that you don’t want to hear it but you need to just roll a new toon. That’s why they gave you 5 character slots. Besides, if you find a class that you really enjoy then it shouldn’t be a problem leveling it up to 80. If you are in a real hurry they just craft to 80.
I’m just curious as to what you’re running for runes and sigils on your armor/weapons.
They’re here as a money sink, not look cool. Legendary weapons are just a legendary waste of time and a legendary waste of money, nothing else.
Totally agree, such a waste of time and money.
Isn’t there a promise somewhere that the Legendaries will always have the top stats though, and if something were to come along that was better the stats get boosted?
Not sure, but I thought I’d ask to get clarification as I was working on Quip and already have the Prec, and mats (just need CM tokens)
Legendary will always BiS, so if something better comes along the Legendary stats will increase to match.
My concern is that you’re investing 30 points to get that trait, and every other trait along the way is a bit worthless for condition based Necromancer. All you really get is Condition Duration, but I thought that was deemed pretty useless in any PvP/WvW environment.
I was coming from a PvE perspective, so my bad :P
I would like to see a breakdown of how many of each Legendary has been crafted/equipped since release. Maybe there are some crazy people out there that really like the way that these Legendaries look
Do Factions first and roll a Ritualist. Rit is one of, if not “the”, easiest classes to faceroll with. Get your heroes some decent gear and a good build and then you just have to let the grind begin. You could buy your way to a lot of the points as well, but the issue there is that you have to know someone that is willing to give you money :P
Taking Dhummfire gives you burning damage on each crit. Why would you not want to take that, especially with all the CD you should be taking? Here’s a link to the build that I’m using:
As you can see, loads of CD by taking Rabid gear. How much Rabid gear you take is completely up to you, but you definitely want to take a healthy amount. I would also like to reference this site:
It hasn’t been updated for Terror, but if you plug the 1733 CD I have from my build, you’re doing 761 dps with burning. Mess around with the numbers for stacks of bleeding as well. Throw in some Terror and you’ve got your enemy losing lots of health, really fast.
100% up time on regen. Despite the small health pool, I hardly ever go down. Take jaguar and raven/bear depending on the situation. This is a PvE build. I run traps in WvW.
Anet did this with GW1 and will continue to do it. It’s part of the culture that they have created. I think the most important part of this whole thing is that you have to remember is that this is just a game and you aren’t paying a monthly sub fee. If you’ve gotten more than 60 hours out of the game then I would say you’ve definitely gotten your monies worth. Just relax and play another game and come back later on down the road if you feel like it.
When creating my BM build I ended up taking all the healing power I could get. I specced to make my jaguar a wrecking ball. Through up Healing Spring so my group mates could benefit off of the regen, which I also specced into increased regen duration. This was initially though. As Vox Hollow mentioned, he uses a bear and was able to find a sweet spot that worked for him. My Healing Power is a little higher because I use the jaguar and need a little extra to keep him up.
Even though many people would disagree with me, I would suggest getting Cleric’s armor and grabbing Monk runes. This will give you a whole lot of healing power. Then you can slowly change out your Monk runes as you feel more comfortable with your build.
Build specs and template load-outs were one of the best and most unique things about GW. I really hope ANet brings that flexibility back, even if you can only change builds in town, and I hope it’s a flat gold cost at the trainer (to avoid inflation). Gem store FTL…

I would love to see something like this. I’m completely ok with having to store my extra amor in my inventory. I just want an easier to switch between my PvE build and my WvW build. They can even keep the part where we have to use coin to respec, just make it so that I can do it from my Trait screen instead of having to run and find a trainer.
I like this build:
It’s a PvP build that I’ve run in WvW with success. It maybe not be the “best” in a mathematical sense, but I feel it gives me a nice mix of everything and is forgiving since you are working with traps and condition damage.
nerva, what sort of build are you playing? Maybe the WvW on my server is just weak and I’ve had better experience because of it?
All professions are viable in just about every aspect of this game. Just a month or so ago people were crying about how Rangers weren’t viable in tPvP, but now a lot of top teams are using them. It just takes a little tweaking and going outside of conventional builds to find what works.
I’m not trying to say l2p, rather just experiment and try to be part of the solution rather then being negative.
I approve of this message. Only makes sense.
Not being able to do regional is a bummer. Otherwise it’s all pretty straight forward
A lot of the opinions you’re drawing about this game come from aspects of WoW that you seem to enjoy. That’s all fine and well, but you have to remember that this isn’t WoW. I can agree with you on some aspects of the end game in GW2, but on others I totally disagree. You have to look for what motivates you to continue to play the game. If GW2 doesn’t have what you are looking for then the bright side is that you don’t have to pay any more money, and you can always come back free of charge. To each their own, so I hope you find game that suits your style.
I’ve read this on several other forums as well. Ranger GM traits are pretty lackluster. The only reason to go all the way down to 30 is maybe for the extra stat points? Even then, you might be able to make that up with stats off of gear.

I see no issue with this. It’s pretty much the same system that they had in GW1.
Something simple, similar to a “like” button for comments that people post. Thanks for listening, that is all.
Do you listen to the Beatles or are you just the kind of person that has heard their “hits” The Beatles broke ground for a myriad of genres, changed the way music was recorded, and changed the way the industry was ran.
That being said, I agree with Potent. Jack Wall is nothing special. At least if you consider Jeremy Soule to not be special.
what pet are you using? I run the black Moa, and the bear/wolf creature i picked up in the Norn lands, both have high vitality and toughness, and both last longer then most of my team mates. Though they will die to 1-hit attacks from bosses since they have no dodge mechanic…
This is the exact same set up I use and I agree with everything you say.
I’ve actually seen a pretty good balance of things on my server, except for maybe Engineers.
