Reduce the number of minions

Everything I say will be about PvP only, as I do not PvE much at all. Part of the fantasy of for some necromancers is controlling the undead, having armies of undead to follow you into combat. The amount of minions we have up 100% of the time (assuming they never died from being attacked by players) is 4-6 max, only a small amount more than a mesmer and his/her illusions. The minions I assume you are talking about are from “Rise!” and a passive that some MMs use (myself included) that summon a minion when we kill a player. Both last no more than 30s assuming they aren’t killed sooner, and “Rise!” is a 40s cd (36 with one spec we can take). The advantage of having all those minions is that we can mess with our opponents minds and help keep ourselves alive by letting absorb damage for us by transfering it to themselves (like “Rise!”). Honestly, if those got cut down but our other more permanent pets were buffed, I can guarantee you would be even more upset. Currently my shadow fiend does about 500 per hit, my bone fiend about 800 per attack, my blood fiend about 400 per attack, and my flesh golem about 1.2k per attack. If we got rid of “Rise!”, I would also use bone minions, so about 400 per attack (combined). In total that is a little over 3k every 2-3 seconds assuming I don’t detonate my bone minions, and are not using a flesh worm instead. Now let’s say we got rid of all those minions and buffed my damage by 20% to compensate for lost survivability, pet numbers, and pet damage. That is now nearly 4k per 2-3 seconds from my minions alone, not even counting the special abilities each one can use, which means the detonation from bone minions would be about 4k (every 16s if used on cd), my flesh golem would do about 2.4k on charge’s final hit, my shadow fiend would do nearly 1k on it’s teleport blind, and my bone fiend would do almost 1.3k with its ranged immobilize. Now imagine you put my damage into the equation assuming it was untouched. That is a massive amount of damage in just a 2-3 second time frame, I would be like a super tanky thief on steroids stacking might from a nearby rev, before I even gain any boons. I would basically down anyone I so much as looked at unless they react before I even engage or pop some major defensives, which wouldn’t matter because I can just rinse and repeat within 20s anyway while staying alive via shroud or other abilities. I think the minions are fine where they are at, especially considering those minions you’re complaining about don’t last forever and some require me to kill (not down) someone to summon it.

TL;DR: buffing the minions enough to compensate for the lost numbers and survivability would make us extremely OP.

EDIT: Also, those summoned from Rise! and kills are SUPER easy to kill with small aoes, albeit a few at a time.

GS needs massive buff

I run a highly custom MM build in sPvP using GS as my main weapon and axe or dagger (depends)/wh. I have beaten 3v1 before (great story, last guy and I ended up both downed and I got him because of leech + minions). I believe that the sword was intended as a PvE weapon OR with minions to help boost your survivability. I haven’t tried it in WvW yet but I would imagine it would be great at roaming (not at zerging not at all). If the GS got buffed, I cannot even begin to fathom how OP this build might be.

I’ve been testing a d/d build using shadow arts, trickery, and daredevil. So far it is definitely more difficult than d/p and the lack of a reliable interrupt is sad, BUT it is surprisingly strong and works very well in sPvP so far.

Yeah, sure, those like me who have several k of hours of experience with that set simply have no idea and just say things.

I’m not saying that, I’m just saying I’ve found a nice little build through experimenting that makes d/d worth a little something in unranked spvp xD

alemfi, I basically thought that it was a worse form of d/p because d/p had an interrupt and better stealthing mechanics/lower ini costs, I figured it would be gimping myself but I was hoping there was someone out there that had a good idea on how to pull it off effectively xD… Jana, I would totally do it in PvE if I PvE’d, but I am not interested sadly :< I’m 99% PvP. Oh well, maybe D/D will be viable again some day, thanks for the replies.

Edit: Are there any condi d/d builds that are still viable perhaps? Thinking about it based on what you said, alemfi. Trying to keep my dream alive haha

I have always mained the assassin/rogue/thief classes in every game I’ve ever played both online and off. When I saw what thief could do I was very happy and gave it a try. From what I’ve experienced, D/D has a hard time in PvP, and because of that I currently main D/P while dabbling in S/D and staff. For me, part of the fantasy of rogue/assassin/thief is wielding two daggers. Does anyone have a power d/d build they wouldn’t mind sharing as well as some tips and tricks when it comes to playing d/d? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I tweaked the build changed some water and tempest stuff and switched air to fire, less mobility but nice sustain and the damage is incredible as S/F, gonna try staff and see how it goes but I think I found a very nice build tweaked from what you gave me

I currently play and really enjoy thief at the moment, but I’ve been thinking about ele lately and love flashy abilities. I looked up some builds but everything I find is either old (from the days of celestial stuff) or doesn’t take tempest and/or staff. Does anyone have any ideas on a good ele PvP build primarily for sPvPthat uses a staff and/or tempest spec? I want to play the class but only with one (or both) of those and I can’t find something on my own that works. Any help is greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I also don’t want to be primarily support, I want to be able to deal damage and survive in general sPvP.
