What makes a build "strong"?

I use “meta” purely as something to follow while building up synergy with my traits. I like to have my characters as “lore-appropriate” as they can be in my head so I use a lot of utilities that aren’t deemed meta. The main reason I like metabuild pages is only for learning rotations and finding new ways to blast your own fields (for example ele, which took me personally a long time to figure out how to stack on my own).

I don’t think these are bad ideas. Only problem I have is where does it end? First the option to have insta map completion, then the option to have insta level 80 for the low price of x amount of gems. Then people will want insta lvl 80 exotic gear. Then it would be access to any chapter of any story with any new character that has never done the story. Because no matter what there is always something in the game others will say “why shouldn’t we have (fill in blank) without earning it since I already earned it before.”

Nail on the head; I don’t envy game companies like Blizz and ANet. Sure they always seem like the bad guy but this is exactly why. The map completion Mastery wouldn’t be a bad idea; and the level 80 isn’t TOO bad but anything past those two basics? Yeah you’re getting into a P2P model

Having leveled 69 alts primarily from mapping and 32 with 100% on my main account. I’m neither for not against this idea. Just if it is allowed imo that alt should never be allowed in any way to earn any type of map reward for completion. Nor should it be allowed any exp gain from exploration to go towards mastery.

Well that’s what I mean; until 80 you would play the game as we do right now. But at 80 suppose you get a choice to fill out your map with what you’ve already explored. Now doing that, though, doesn’t retro-actively grant any completion rewards. And you’d have to find a different way to get mastery XP. From that point on, exploration on any 80 would be account bound so exploring a zone on one character would be filling it out on all level 80s. Just a thought though.

One issue: needs to be optional. Some people do like doing map completion.
Second issue: all possibility of crafting Legendaries need to be removed from those chars that have automatic map completion, unless they get a Gift of Exploration from another char.

To your first issue, totally agree. And for your second, you’re right. I didn’t think of that. But that’s only because I’ve been doing the 3 tiers of crafting the legendaries, not the mystic forge approach.

You do realize… that you STILL need the gift of exploration to craft it right? The 3-part collections ONLY GIVE THE PRECURSOR. You get nothing else related to crafting the final legendary.

Oh. Really? I honestly just assumed that since it was called the legendary journey and named for the legendary that it was the reward at the end. Completely my bad…guess that’s what you get when you assume. Sorry all!

Dont you still need the gift of exploration when upgrading the precursor from crafting to legendary anyway?

^ This. You’d have to solve this issue first.

If approaching “crafting” a legendary using the legendary weapon collection process you don’t need it; but you’re right, the tried-and-true method of getting legy’s would have to be assessed.

EDIT: It’s been pointed out to me that the collections aspect only gives you the precursor. Whoops. My bad

They should have an optional “care bear” button that a player can press that gives them everything in the game (all AP points, legendaries, skins, exploration, dungeons, wvw ranks, pvp titles, all gem store items and enough bags/bank slots to carry it all).

Bam – one button – you win!

And instead you should have to go through and explore every little area that you’ve already done. Wow so much fun and excitement! I mean I’ve never done this before…. oh wait…
I speak sarcasm too

This; in no way am I supporting an “easy mode” to the game. All I’m saying is allow the actual things you did be shared across your account just as the achievement for doing them already is.

But I see there are a LOT of people out there who don’t mind the map grind. I only have 8 toons so wow, kudos to all of you with 20+!

EDIT: Also agreed that should the option be implemented, no map completion awards would be insta-received.

Please bear with me while I lay out my thoughts…

I know Map Completion is a major source of XP while leveling a new character, as it should be. But once you hit 80, the EXPLORING is what drives me to complete the map. My idea is that World Map Completion be Account Bound for level 80 characters only. Here’s what I mean:
1) Below level 80, absolutely nothing will change
2)Upon reaching level 80, the world opens up and everything discovered by you (albeit a different character) is now completed by all level 80s
——-However, a potential downfall to this could be a severe player drop in lower level areas that don’t have dailies or metas

Personally I like to switch up my play-style and character quite often so I have at least one of each profession. The only problem is that they’re land locked. So let me know your thoughts. Yay or nay, issues I’m not seeing, etc.

I just realized and maybe I’m late to the party, but Trahearne, originally a necromancer was given that GS from the pale tree and gains a whole new awesome move set. Is HE the original GS necro? Has ANet knew the route they were going to take this whole time?

My only wish for the Revenant is that if they insist on coming up on new ways to use awesome heavy weapons (i.e. long range GS for Mesmer, long range Hammer for Revenant) is that they also make some sort of melee staff. Now I have no idea how they’d do it or if it’d be viable, but I think the animations would be really sweet and would definitely match the Revenant; think of how cool it’d be to have lances or polearms.
