Bugged after killing clockheart boss?

in Twilight Assault

Moonstruck.3612

Experienced the same bug that Wasbunny experienced. Our group wiped during the “Kill The Generators” phase. When we came back, the generators no longer spawned mobs and the floor did not electrify. We tried several things (most exiting and re-entering, we even tried wiping again on some blossoms from the beginning of the dungeon) but to no avail. Was a great dungeon, but extremely frustrating to have worked hard to get to that point only to be unable to finish. Several of us did submit in game bug reports.

We just experienced exactly the same issue. Very frustrating, as this was a pretty decent run up to that point. Not very happy at the moment.

Edit: We just discovered that we actually can do damage to the generators. Just in very small amounts. It’s taking several minutes to down a generator. But our hope is that Clockheart will spawn after and we can continue.

Edit again: After about an hour and a half (with 3 people participating) we downed all the generators and Clockheart did spawn. We defeated him and the dungeon proceeded normally.

Some of you may be aware of the Extra Life gaming marathon and what it’s about. If you are, stay with me for a moment while I explain to the others.

Extra Life is an amazing annual event that empowers gamers like us to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. You can even select the specific hospital you wish to support, if you’re so inclined.

This year’s event will take place on November 2nd & 3rd. The event is a 24 hour (25 hours this year, due to the time change) gaming marathon. It’s open to ALL types of gamers, from table-top, to mobile, to MMO. Whatever your preference.

A team has been formed by some of us Guild Wars 2 players and we’d LOVE to have more of you join us. If you’d like more info on Extra Life in general, you can find it at http://www.extra-life.org or, if you’d like to join our team you can find our page at http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=11267

We’ve created a guild for the event so we can all hook up and coordinate with each other. The guild is Tyria For Extra Life [XTRA] We don’t have a set schedule for what we plan to do during the event. But obviously the more people we have, the more we can do together, be it dungeons, WvW or whatever comes up.

The event is less than 90 days away! Please consider joining us in this effort to help sick kids and their families!

Bunnies of Tyria, UNITE!

But seriously, I concur. I understand the desire to encourage people to play your whole game. But the fact is, many people don’t like one aspect or another and it’s not serving anyone to put them in a situation where they feel compelled to play contrary to their preferred style. Let’s go back to the manifesto video. One of the early things that attracted me to GW2 was ANet’s declaration that the game was designed for people to play in the manner they enjoyed best. Sure, I could skip the PvP content and miss out on that achievement. But chasing achievements is part of how I enjoy playing the game.

See, the problem with most people here appears to be that they try once, someone tells them “NO!” once or twice and kills them and they get all whiny and quit. The thing about the Obsidian Sanctum is that you should keep trying, since the campers always go away after some time. If youre afraid of breaking your armor, take it off.

Our group that was trying to get this achievement went back and checked more than once. The SoR group was still there camping the beginning of the puzzle. It’s not even “real” PvP. It’s simply farming badges of honor from PvE players who just don’t twitch fast enough.

I didn’t do an in-depth test. But I did try it without the food buff. It wasn’t as high as I would have expected, but it was pretty close. Much closer than when I used the food buff and it was roughly 3,000 karma too low.

I encountered the same issue last night. Normally when I have bonfire, guild, banner & ice cream karma buffs, I can get around 8K from a jug. Last night I got all those buffs, downed one jug that got me around 5K and I stopped. I didn’t know if it was a nerf, a bug or what. But I didn’t want to use any more until I know.

Every since I first played in the very first beta weekend a year ago one of my thoughts, while marveling at the incredible beauty of Tyria in GW2, was how much I can’t wait to see what Cantha looks like with the improved graphics and artwork. To think that it might never happen truly saddens me.

I know there is prejudice between the Korean, Japanese & Chinese cultures due to centuries of war between them. But please don’t let that taint the beauty that is Tyria. Let Cantha stand as a testament to all that is beautiful and amazing about Asia and it’s cultures.

My opinion on the Guild Mission cost

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Moonstruck.3612

Moonstruck.3612

I’m seriously disappointed at the unlock cost for guild missions. Contrary to Colin’s comments earlier this month, not all guilds are swimming in a surplus of influence with nothing to spend it on. Smaller guilds (and NO, I have no desire to represent a larger guild) do not have the resources to even begin to access this content. We are a small group of friends and we don’t indiscriminately invite anyone and everyone to join our guild just so we can have 500 members. I guess we’ll get to do guild missions sometime in the future, hopefully. For now, it’s not even remotely possible.

I’m concerned that this is going to drive people to larger guilds and smaller guilds are just going to suffer. “Tough little ones, you can’t play the big kid content.”

This is perrty much a nobrainer your motherboard is not made for xfire. you have 1×16 slot and 1×4 slot (read the specks next time)

Wow, you know, unfortunately you’re correct. I bought the system pre-built with the dual cards in Crossfire mode. Never looked at the slot specifications before I bought it. Lesson learned. Grrrrr

Oh well, I’ll resolve that when it’s time to upgrade the mobo & CPU. Until then, I guess I’ll live with it.

Thanks for all the help.

Yeah, I looked at the power saving settings. They’re disabled. I just checked the AMD driver versions and found that I don’t have the most recent one from last month. I’m downloading CCC 12.10 and the associated CAP to see if that makes any difference in this issue. But, given that the problem didn’t move with the card when I swapped them, I’m not sure that’s going to resolve this issue. We’ll see.

*Edit – Just looked at that post you linked. It’s interesting that he notes the issue happened after he installed an Intel SSD. I wish I’d noticed my PCI link before I installed my SSD. Probably has nothing to do with the issue, but I thought it was an interesting coincidence with his post.

I was actually looking at the PCI-e link after my original posts. I noticed on my GPU monitor gadgets that one was at x16 and the other at x4. Pretty sure that’s where the problem lies. Now I’m trying to figure out how to resolve it. I’ve already switched the cards between slots, so the issue must be with the slot. I’ve blown it out with canned air and it looks clean. I’ve looked for settings in the BIOS and can’t find any that relate specifically to PCI-e link. I also went into my Windows power profile and ensured that power management for PCI is disabled.

Any other thoughts?

I should note, as I’ve just been reading some other posts concerning CPU/GPU usage, what I’m seeing would seem to fly in the face of the “CPU is your bottleneck” problem about which so many post. In my case, I’m actually getting better performance by putting more load on the CPU. I suppose, if the game is optimized to use the CPU more and I’m trying to NOT use it, I’m not running my game to use the hardware for which it’s optimized. Maybe that’s why I’m seeing what I posted above.

Moonstruck.3612

I apologize if this has been discussed. I searched through the forums and didn’t find any posts that seemed to address this.

System specs:

  • Core i7 2600k (conservatively OC’ed and liquid cooled)
  • ASRock P67 Pro3 SE mobo
  • 32 GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL9 RAM
  • Intel 330 120GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (I have hard drives for data storage, but the game runs on the SSD)
  • Dual HIS Radeon HD 6850 1 GB Graphics Cards

I made a rather surprising (to me anyway) observation yesterday and wondered if anyone else has seen the same thing.

I needed to use my second monitor to look up some skill/trait info. So I switched from full screen to windowed full screen so I could have the game up as well. Then I noticed something odd. When I’m in windowed full screen and Crossfire is not engaged, I am getting higher FPS (roughly 10 FPS higher) in the game than I do when I’m putting the load on both GPUs. Logically, that didn’t make sense to me so I switched back and forth a few times to see what was different. What I noticed is when I’m in windowed full screen and only loading one GPU, my CPU load increased by a very small amount, only a couple percentage points.

I’m actually a little disappointed in this finding. What’s the point of having dual video cards if the performance is actually lower? The second GPU is loaded when I’m running full screen, although not as much as the primary GPU. I’m not pointing fingers at the game or at my system. I’m just puzzled as to why this is and if anyone else has seen similar performance? I haven’t yet tried this experiment with any other game, but I may to see if I get similar results. Any thoughts on how to put more load on the secondary GPU and get the frame rate increase one might expect from dual GPUs in Crossfire mode?

i’d love to see /map get cleaned up, and made into something that’s useful to the community for more than just “lfg!”. anyone else got any ideas on how to improve this?

Level 80s, Haunted Door Campings, Lower-level farming, and problems with level scaling

It’s certainly diminished my desire to be playing in those areas. First of all, I have thought for some time that the level scaling needs to be adjusted a bit. Higher level characters in lower zones are still too OP for those zones. They need to be scaled a little lower.

TBH, I would prefer to see either lower scaling or diminished returns for event items for characters that are more than a set number of levels above the zone in which they’re farming/camping the doors etc.

you contend that this makes it more fair across the board, but here’s been my experience:

for every person who screamed that this class was overpowered, there was another person who said, “i don’t have an issue with that class, this is how you counter it.” for every attempt to give something to the screamer, something was taken away from the quiet pver, you know, the one who was happy with the game. and for every game company that started down the road of balance, there was at the end a game company people reluctantly, sadly, walked away from.

the lore in this world supports a rich pve experience. the world itself, vast, beautiful, filled with secrets, supports a rich pve experience. the art, the music … these things support a rich and full pve experience. please don’t make the mistake of thinking everything can be, should be, or is better off being centered around pvp.

There’s really nothing I can add to that. This expresses perfectly my own experience. Every MMO in which I’ve played has gone down the path of “balance” to try and appease the very vocal PvP crowd and the end result for PvE players is less than desirable. Balance is an illusion. No matter what is done to try and achieve it, there is always someone who can and will counter it. Until the next inevitable change intended to negate their “advantage”. The only way you’ll ever achieve “balance” is to have sPvP games that are profession restricted. Warriors only, Engineers only, etc. And I’m pretty sure most people won’t really care for that either. But who knows, maybe that’s an option to offer those who scream for balance?

Those of you who have done Extra Life in the past and are doing it again, SOUND OFF!

Those who’ve never done it before, but can’t wait for your first event, LET’S HEAR IT!

Those of you who are wondering what the heck I’m talking about… go to extra-life.org and check it out! Extra Life is a 24 hour gaming marathon to raise funds in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals around the world. All the money you help raise goes to the Children’s Hospital of your choice. You help kids locally in YOUR community.

This is the 5th year for the Extra Life event. It’s happening the weekend of 10/20. Last year’s event raised over $1.2 MILLION!! Hopefully we’ll blow that away this year!

And no, I don’t work for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, if you’re wondering. I just get excited about doing this event because it’s personal. I have a daughter who is alive today because of Children’s Hospital.

Besides, you’ll never feel better about having fun doing something you love anyway.

Monthly achievement without WvW participation

in Suggestions

Posted by: Moonstruck.3612

Moonstruck.3612

Perhaps you should just give WvW a try, if you have not you really do not know how different it is from truely competitive play and how easy those kills will actually come. The point of these achievements is to get people to try and experience everything it just so happens, until they start making new types of monthly and daily achieves that a PvPer can get them all… still can’t do much with the reward though.

I actually DID try WvW. In fact, before launch, I was a little excited at the prospect of PvP that even I might be able to enjoy now and then, given all I’d heard WvW was intended to be. However, my experience didn’t prove to be anywhere near what I’d hoped. Sure, it’s easy to get the kills if you stay with the zerg. Assuming your side actually has managed to pull a zerg group together. When one server is totally dominating and the others are in complete disarray and disorganized, it’s a painful experience. I endured it for about 2 1/2 hours, managed to get to 30 kills and decided I couldn’t take it anymore. It was too aggravating.

So, it’s not that I haven’t tried it. I sincerely hoped that I would find a place in WvW that I could enjoy, after all the pre-launch talk about it. But to get the monthly, you can’t take one of the “something for everyone” lesser roles in WvW. You have to be engaged against an enemy to get the player kills required for the achievement.

Bottom line, I’d be a lot more inclined to come into WvW now and then, when I’m feeling up to it and actually want to be there. But requiring me to be there if I want to complete the monthly achievement is counter productive.

With WvW queues as crowded as they are, why add people who don’t want to be there?

Moonstruck.3612

So…you’re refusing to do something optional and you’re complaining you’re not getting a reward for it?

No, I’m not refusing to do something optional. I am pointing out there is a disparity in the frustration level experienced by the different types of players in completing the same monthly achievement. Why is this a hard concept to grasp for some? If someone does not enjoy PvP, it is a significant aggravation to be required to do PvP in order to complete the monthly achievement. However, if someone loves PvP, there is no aggravation or frustration at all in completing the same achievement. It’s that simple. There is a disparity that exists in that simple, single fact.

In order to achieve parity, either that requirement should be removed from the monthly achievement, or an equally aggravating and frustrating (for PvP players) PvE requirement should be added. If the WvW requirement was removed from the monthly achievement it would instantly be equitable. Or, as another person pointed out, remove the experience survival requirement as well. Then the PvP player never has to feel compelled to do PvE in order to complete the monthly.

As I said previously, nobody is served by forcing PvE players to do PvP. It only aggravates the PvE players and clogs the WvW queue with people who don’t want to be there, making the wait longer for those who DO want to be there.

but if you take a closer look at the skills and the games core mechanics you soon realize that they are primarily made for pvp

Why, because it requires movement and not just standing in one place? That’s not a PvP design feature. That’s just making combat more fun and interactive. That’s just part of ArenaNet’s desire to evolve the genre beyond what it’s been for so long. Those same combat mechanics are designed just as well for PvE and dungeons. Just because the game requires you to move does not mean its core design is PvP focused.

As I stated, the disparity at the heart of the issue is the fact that PvE players are required to participate in PvP to complete the monthly and PvP players are NOT required to participate in PvE. It is not equitable. If there was a requirement to do at least one dungeon run a month, there would be people who hate PvE calling out that disparity and labeling it as unfair.

A PvP fan can easily get the monthly survival achievement without ever leaving PvP?

No, this is a bad idea, and was the last time this thread was made. If you want all the rewards that people who do all sorts of things get, you have to do all the things that people who do all sorts of things do.

I absolutely hate dungeons, I think they’re stupid, the stories are terrible, the boss mechanics are trivial, and there’s no fun or challenge in it at all. I don’t ask for dungeon achievements to be given to me, without me having to do them.

Fair enough. But, are dungeons required for you to complete the monthly achievement? No, they’re not. I’m not asking for ANY of the PvP achievements. Just like you’re not asking for any of the dungeon achievements. I’m simply asking that since the monthly DOESN’T require PvE play, that it also not require PvP play.

And comparing a PvP player having to run around one of the PvE zones surviving while killing NPCs to a PvE player having to run around in WvW and get player kills is absurd. The two are NOTHING alike. There is no frustration or aggravation in having to kill NPCs and survive.

Just the monthly. I’m not talking about any other achievements.

There’s no need to remove the WvW aspect of the achievement. You have the option to avoid it altogether if you despise it so much. Not to mention, you’ve an entire month to work on it…that’s more than fair.

No, it’s not fair. Here’s where the disparity lies… As stated by another, a PvP fan can easily complete the monthly without having to step one foot outside the aspect of the game they love, even though they probably will do some of it in PvE content. But, someone who generally dislikes PvP, or even despises it, being forced to participate in PvP in order to complete their monthly IS unfair. For the PvP player, no big deal. For the PvE player, it IS a big deal. It’s unnecessary aggravation and frustration.

Simply remove the WvW requirement for the monthly and it instantly becomes completely fair and balanced for both players.

And as someone else stated in reference to WvW being required for map completion, it will also free up space in the queues for people who actually WANT to participate in PvP. Nobody is served by forcing people to PvP who don’t want to do it.
