Engineer lacking in mobility?

Great Ill look into that Kasama, I definitely missed that.

The Speedy kits trait has a 5 sec CD so Im assuming you are
using ways to buff the 5 sec of swiftness? Either way seems kind
of laborious spamming the key every 5 seconds to keep buff up.

This made me LOL so hard, not trying to be condecending or anything, but if that seems laborious Engi really isn’t for you. Don’t even touch grenade kit.

On a more constructive note I’ll add that the real strength of this trait is it’s synergy with the 10 pt Alchemy trait Invigorating Speed
This gives perma swiftness and vigor, and because it also gives 10% boon duration (from alchemy) there is a half second of overlap between cooldowns, this overlap grows with more boon duration and Alchemy is arguably our best trait line.

I’m agree with this… if you are thinking about perma swiftness requires too much work with the engy, maybe you want to rethink if this profession is going to be your cup of tea… Engy has the most key presses for anything you want done, usually you do those things pretty well but not better than everyone else, so it’s NOT really the most keys the most powerful.

If you are ok with this, you’d be happy with the different ways to get your perma swiftness / combat movement. (Other fellows have explained all the possibilities pretty well)

You refusing to level ‘fast’ in WvW and getting a nice gear for your lvl, has nothing to do with ‘twinking’.

As other people has stated above, there is no such possibility nor concept in gw2.

I don’t get why are you so obsessed about changing this profession (you waste a lot of efforts and don’t seem to realize there are lots of people who actually like the engineer as is)… if you don’t like it, pick another one which fits you better.. if there are no other prof you like in gw2, well.. there are plenty of games out there.

Engineers: How do you get ANYTHING done?!

@OP: If you just used the birthday scroll to level up your toon to 20, and then realize the traits were missing… and after that, you don’t really understand those traits, maybe you should been reading/analizing that before jumping into the profession. The engy has not a straight forward playstyle by any means, so if you are interested in a easy to grasp, in your face, tanky feel and easy to level, in top of that… maybe you want to give a try a signet warrior: easy comes, easy goes.

If you don’t want to give up your engy by now, I suggest you go to the mists and get used to the profession mechanics and utilities, and the synergy between trait lines. Then, pick up your rifle, your bombkit and go to PVE to level like a boss. :P

Tip: The best 10 initial trait points for leveling imo, are those to get speedy kits, which makes you get perma swiftness.

Welcome to the board and enjoy!

For hammer I’d like to see something like frost/cc themed:

1) Dark smash — Melee dd / Melee dd cleave /Melee dd cleave + chill (1s) (generate life force)
2) Final blast – Melee AOE — blast finisher (more damage on frozen targets)
3) Frozen swamp — Medium cd melee — frost field (generate life force)
4) Spectral fog – Blind the targets around you and give allies protection 5s
5) Calling of death – Pull your enemy towards you and chill him for 4s

PvE Mesmer Staff Rabid Condition Build

Morghana.6342

One thing I want to add is about condition damage weapons, there is no incentive to use torch in PVE imho, the blast finisher is simply not enough…

As far I can tell, the best way to go is with staff/ sword – pistol — or maybe if you can handle it, the scepter may work.. but using staff/scepter based builds leaves you with almost cero AOE damage (only staff autoattack, scepter with ‘on clone death’ traits and chaos storm.. which are reaaaaally slow stacking conditions, and on clone death traits only gives you bleeding in a 1/3 basis… So maybe it may ‘work’ for dungeons or world bosses, but it’s a terrible set up for massive pve events (you will not tag a single kitten thing --> no loot) In fact, even gearing for cond damage, I suggest you to switch staff to GS for trash/event farming.

So I recommend you staff (GS)/sword – pistol, with glamours (to stack confusion with iduelist and of course the added benefit of reflections and conditions wipe). The build should pick at least 20 on dueling, ‘on clone death’ traits and the others are up to you.. If you want to add the cripple cc, I should say somethin like 10/20/10/0/30 or even 10/25/10/0/25, so you can create phantasms often and the conditions will benefit with might and confusion stacking (so you can have ‘on demand’ AOE, with mind wrack and cry of frustation). Confusion, if timed properly, may add nice heavy spike condition damage.

For this set up I like the rampager/berserker or divinity jewells stats (hybrid). This helps you to no be absolutly sold when other cond damage professions are present as well.

PvE Mesmer Staff Rabid Condition Build

Morghana.6342

I’m going to say rampager is the way to go, because all our ‘condition viable’ weapons and phantasm scale so well with power as well, and precision is a must have for us. (maybe rabid armor/ rampager jewells with coral orbs)

Morghana.6342

I’m going for 2h Axe… buuut it’s not in the game yet (don’t really sure why)..

So, I’ll say hammers, because there is a scythe skin (so it will be aesthetically viable in this way) and it fits with the melee cleave/blast finisher/cc idea, that suits us so well because we are a bit lacking atm.

Stability help

Morghana.6342

I’m finding really annoying that launching, knocking down.. etc are the FotM AI skills so far.. that’s even worse if you try to blast the enemies with bomb kit..
I’m using elixir gun toolbelt skill for stun breaking, and I find it really usefull.. how ever I hate when you use it in the flight part of the launching and it’s wasted until the whole animation ends..
There are other professions that lack stability as well..(my poor necro flying around comes to my mind, but at least elites can give you a break) I’m only really comfortable in closer range with my guardian actually.

I think stun breakers should break the whole launch/knock down process or if not, maybe stability should be more reliable for the professions in general.

Mesmers *actual* swiftness woes...

Morghana.6342

I absolutely love my underwater spear skills, I have several characters and the mesmer is hands down the faster one underwater (note: I allways run builds with at least 20 in dueling, so I have the trait that reduces CD for sword and also spear). In fact, I miss those skills in any other profession even when they have access to almost perma swiftness like guardian, necro, engineer…

(This applies to sPVP and PVE, I haven’t experienced this issue in WvW though.)

This is what I’m testing now, as a full dps with interrupts. I’ll be testing various rune sets and sigils, along with maybe a trinket swap depending on my survivability. If all works out well, I’ll make a thread just for it if you wanna try it out, and tell me what works best in terms of runes and such (and maybe sword in the mainhand instead of scepter?) let me know! Thanks

I have been testing in sPvP this one:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAsdWlwzipXUzmGb9IipHBnvJckKUalewbXItB-TsAAzCoIKSVkrITRyisFNyYlx8DA

This works good enough, but I need more work with it, I have seen lots of pple burn their stun breakers for the immobilize… and that’s always welcome because it happens so often. Great PRO thing about this one is immobilize avoid dodges.

And my interrupt build favourite so far:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAsdRlwzipXUToGb9ICqHYn3xdkKUalewbXItB-ToAg0CnIKSVkrITRyisFNyY+B

Power/shatter bursts, more selfish because you give up some vulnerability for self haste, but quite handy if you want to melt people really fast.

It’s hard to build a well rounded interrupt based build, because it’s hard to get the bang for your bucks if you don’t manage to interrupt them when using single target dazes. That’s why I work around AOEs ones, because it’s so much easier to get one interrupt or more at time.

Off topic note: However I prefer building in Chaos to synergy with the stealthy builds (I’m really loving conditions + stealth boons ones)

[Build] The Blackwater Mesmer (Condition/WvW)

I have been testing this variation for sPVP and I’m really liking it:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAsfWlwzipXUzmGb9IipHEXwBckUUavWJF82FC-TsAAzCoIKSVkrITRyisFNyYlx8DA

The worst thing is the lack of swiftness because of torch instead of focus… But this build lets you survive long enough to ‘bunker’ capture points, and it’s great for sneaking combat (really funny vs stealth thieves).

On the down side, it lacks the out of combat movement and the burst damage if your play style fits those. (I alternate between this one and the berserker shatters 20/20/0/0/30 or 0/20/0/20/30 all the time)

Nice too see people are enjoying this build! I feel a bit like I’m giving back to the community who have helped me so much =)

Yeh, It can be a bit slow at times, however its a simple matter to swap to a 10 copper level 1 focus and get some swiftness whenever you need too running around, and put the torch before on before you start fighting, but whilst fighting I don’t really notice the lack of swiftness, as I’m already teleporting and dodge rolling all over the place.

I take it you prefer the swords blurred frenzy distortion and burst more then the sceptres condition and confusion, its not a bad idea, although I find that I like the 5 stacks of torment (which last for 7+ seconds) and the 5 stacks of confusion a bit more, as this build generally lacks in normal “power” thus the normal bursts wouldn’t be able to do as much damage, and also, how’s the lyss runs working out for you? as nice as they are you would generally be sheathed and not doing that much whilst you have the extra boons.

I really LOVE lyssa runes with mass invisibility for sPVP, I found it pretty amazing as offensive CD or defensive one, decoy + mass invisibility can literally stop any heavy burst on you and let you retake the whole situation in your favour adding extra damage boons as well. It’s also really helpfull for team mate revivals or stomps because stability and aegis.

I dislike the scepter because the slooow paced attacks mostly, and I found in sPVP the whole sword attacks quite useful, boon striping + inmovilize – leap + burst – evading are simply too much to pass.

Morghana.6342

Hi! I have been working on interruption based builds too..

I think there is a great synergy between dazing- traits and diversion (imbued diversion is simply amazing).. sadly we can’t have them all at a given time, so my favourites are the combination of:

1) Imbued diversion (GM trait in Illusions): great to combine with a power/shatter build.

2) Chaotic Interruption (GM trait in Chaos): This works wonders for a condition/condition duration related build with staff.

3) Furious Interruption (GM in Duelling): Great synergy with the ones listed above when you run a deceptive evasion build, eases the way to pick one of those AND this one as well.

4) Dazzling (minor in domination traitline): incredible synergy with both GM traits, because it covers damaging conditions and also increases the DD to the most vulnerable targets.

Interruptions work best with off hand focus and staff or GS, that’s up to the build style you prefer.

I have never tested damage on interrupt or stun on interrupt though, because I don’t want to invest in interrupts direct damage or a ‘chance of stun’. Those traits collide with other great ones which help much more directly your damage or your control (ie., crippling disipation vs Mental torment vs Halting strike) imo.

I’m agree it should be fixed and other stun related issues as well, like melandru.

The main problem right now is sPVP, because people loves to exploit every little bit of OPness and this game is not meant to be ‘CC to death’ like WoW.. So I’m really on board if they fix this rather than other necro abilities/traits.

I may suggest a 10/10/10/0/5 initial approach, I started mine for crit damage + sword cds (50 precision at that lvl is amazing).. Then I really suggest crippling/conditions on illusions death/replacements, because this help you out to do AOE and keep the mobs rooted in place.

Either Staff or GS with sword/pistol is the way to go for me.

When you are around to 40 I preffer : 10/20/10/0/5 swiching to fury on phantasm and clones on dodge.

I suggest you to think the best defence for a mesmer is a great offence.
