The cost of mistakes are so much lower in PvE. Most PvP players are way more skilled than our AI, so you can get away with bad builds for much longer.
Justin you say you reduce the complexity in PvP to not intimidate new players.
And new players are most probably players not new to the game, but to PvP.
Means these players play PvE and/or WvW, both gamemodes were ALL stats and customization options are available, and food on top.
And you say these players are intimidated by a PvP system that has, right now, less option than the rest of the game, so intimidated that you plan to reduce the complexity even more.
I dont get the logic behind that.
Someone who manages the stats in PvE/WvW should be able to manage the bit in PvP.
So basically the implicit message is “in PvE even if you equip questionable/non-optimal gear and/or a kittenty build you’ll still be able to survive one way or another. A bad choice in PvP will cost you a severe defeat and a lot of casual players will be discouraged and frustrated cause they won’t be able to autopilot through the game”.
This upcoming balance baffles me. I really don’t understand how this patch will be beneficial for hardcore PvP players. The devs are trying to dumb down PvP to make it more appealing to casual gamers in order to enlarge the PvP player base. I played GW1 for 6 years, PvP was amazing, and I bought gw2 because I had very high expectations considering anet reputation. Now after 2 years I know (we all know) that gw2 pvp will never be an esport, hardcore pvp players are just a negligible minority, a lot of very skilled players have already left the game (at least in Europe) so MY impression is that devs are just trying to make pvp even less challenging in order to attract the masses. This is not innovation, this is trying to save whatever can be saved. Maybe i’m wrong, i REALLY hope so.
PS: Don’t even get me started on the new rank system…..

If you like trolls you should love the GW2 developers. Best I’ve seen.
Sir, you made my day

Hi guys, we are 2 Italian players looking for a decent, italian speaking, rank45+ team. We used to play a lot but last spring (may 2013 if i remember correctly) we decided to take a break (a kittenton of RL issues ); we came back a couple of months ago. We played steadily in top 300, my best position was 207 or 217 (honestly i don’t remember and… who cares?), but since we came back we basically played with pugs so.. no ambition, no leaderboard. We are two very calm, polite and funny fellas, so we are not looking for overexcited, resentful, aggressive, super-hyped teammates. This is a very crucial point, we don’t wanna argue with whining crybabies over a game.

Server: Seafarer’s Rest
Practice Times: 21.00 – 24.00 usually 4 days a week
Experience: Rank 44, Best position in ladder: 237. I have top 300 experience, i’m used to that situation, so i’m looking for THAT kind of competitive and ambitious team.
Language: Italian, English (decent).
I don’t like ragers & whiners. I’m looking for a good rank 40+, friendly team (with good i mean: a good strategy and tactic, i’m sick and tired of “BringYourOwnBuild” Teams, with people randomly roaming ) I’d like to play with an Italian team, will make things easier (you know: timezone, language etc etc) , but i’ll gladly accept invitations from international teams. I play with guys from Latvia, Germany, Portugal (hi Shalla!) so English and communication in general is not a problem for me. Just keep in mind that at 24.00 (00:00 AM) i MUST log out, so if we are in different timezones, could be annoying.

Hello guys, what do you think about my ideas?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/PvP-Ideas-suggestions-and-rewards/first#post2126540
Btw it’s really comforting seeing all these people concerned about gw2 pvp… we (the players) are really trying to revive this game… will our voices be heard?
Seafarer’s Rest
hi man, i agree with you, i opened a thread this morning, maybe you’ll find it interesting.. i also made a comparison with gw1

There should also be some way to earn custom arena time tokens that way a player can sustain one just by playing the game regularly.
I agree with you, i forgot to mention another idea: as reward for monthly/weekly tournament they should give players that “items” (i’m sorry i don’t remember the name) to extend the custom arenas.
Seafarer’s Rest
For the “skins” the solution is pretty easy: introduce as random loot from pvp reward chests, ALL the rare skins (Super Adventure Box, Fused etc etc). For the “money” problem I think that the wisest thing to do is to reintroduce the QP, and finally introduce Weekly Tournaments and Monthly Tournaments. This would be good for SOOO many reasons: 1) as a reward for both weekly and monthly they should give us a small amount of gems, so even hardcore pvp players can buy stuff. 2) They’re desperately trying to revive the attention of the community on pvp…. the monthly tournaments will do the trick… especially if Anet will reintroduce another very cool feature from Guild Wars 1: THE CAPES. I’m talking about the gold/silver/bronze capes as reward for monthly tournaments. Let’s face it guys, if you love pvp, you love competition, and in guild wars1 being able to obtain a “reward cape” was kinda big deal. It was like a “medal”, something that proved that you were part of the best 16/8/best guild in the world (or in this case of your continent). IMHO this will reignite the pvp flame for sure, no doubt about it. The idea is pretty easy: if you win a regular tournament you get 1 QP, if you win a Weekly Tournament you get 10QPs (for example), To participate to the monthly tournament you need to invest let’s say… mmm 50 QPs? Ok, so you pay the fee and you’re in. Considering that now they’re trying to promote streams and shoutcasts, monthly tournaments would be a HUGE, MASSIVE, GREAT success.
Another important thing: this will put the emphasis on guilds and teams again, and will help players to promote and magnify the game as an esport: sometimes I still talk to my former GW1 teammates, and after almost 8 years they still remember teams like rawr, supernova japan, last pride, war machine, esoteric warriors.. they still remember how we won 2 bronze capes and how close we were to the silver one…and do you wanna know why? Cause Guild Wars1 created a lot of attention around tournaments and pvp teams, was truly addicting and encouraged competition.
I’m not a genius, I’m not suggesting anything radical or new, just few small adjustments, and this ideas taken from the predecessor of this game.
That’s all folks, thanks for the attention, I hope that someone else will find interesting my ideas and share my point of view ( I REAAAAALLY hope that someone from Anet will read this..)
Have Fun guys, c u in game!

First of all I want to apologize in advance for my English, I’m Italian so bear with me if I’ll make grammar mistakes
Now let’s get down to business: I wanted to point out few annoying things I noticed during the last months and suggest possible solutions.
Anet is doing a great job with PvE.. but imho they’re not focusing enough on PvP, I don’t wanna talk about the meta being stagnant, skill balance, new maps, new classes, expansions and things like that, I just want to talk about few very basic aspects.
PvP PLAYERS ARE NOT MOTIVATED AND REWARDED ENOUGH.
PvE/WvW players have much more purchasing power and opportunities than PvP players. Why? Well if I play pve/wvw I can loot, craft, and buy any kind of object/skin for pve and pvp. If I want, for example, the CoF armor the only thing I have to do is farm CoF and gather all the tokens. But while doing this I also collect drops, rewards for completing events, gold etc. So with the money I earned I can buy stuff at trading post… even pvp skins like, for example, the ghastly shield, the super adventure box skins, the living story skins etc. and I can also trade my gold for gems and buy any kind of object (minipets, cosmetics etc.). I’m a pvp player, I have basically no chance to collect money, and the only things I obtain are pvp reward chests and glory booster from the daily pvp mission. I can’t play 10 hours a day, I like pve but I prefer pvp and I try to dedicate time to improve my ability and my coordination with my team, so basically I cannot dedicate the same amount of time to pve… so I don’t have chance to make money and interact efficiently with the trading post; we could say that I’m forced to play PvE. In the beginning anet gave, as a reward for paid tournaments, gems. That was fair, they gave pvp players a chance to unlock skins, maybe expansion slots etc.. but they removed this feature, and especially now, with the arrival of the custom arenas (and they seem to be pretty expensive to buy and extend) pvp players have absolutely no purchasing power at all.
What puzzles me is that Anet already had to face this problem with Guild Wars 1 and they found a brilliant and efficient solution: as you should know, in gw you had the possibility to create a pvp only character, but for few years, we were forced to play with basic skins (both armor and weapons) until anet decided to introduce the tournament points and gave us the possibility to buy/unlock even super rare skins (fow armor, frog scepter, voltaic spear, vabbian armor etc etc) in pvp, so we didn’t have to play not even a second of PvE. And they solved the “money” problem with the Zaishen Keys, so pvp players had the same opportunities as pve players.
