Mobility is the real culprit, not DPS.

So there has been alot of threads recently about people blaming DPS, specifically, berserker gear, as being the reason why dungeons are being completed so fast that it forced everyone to run them. People agrue that they would like to run other gears and run dungeons just as fast. Well I am here to tell you guys that Mobility is the reason why people are completing dungeons so fast. First let’s look at the days when FGS elite was dominant, can we can all agree that FGS did the MOST DPS in the game ever? If you examine the past world record runs where FGS was used for damage, most of them are actually over 1minute slower than what it is today. Why? Because instead of using FGS to damage, people are now using FGS to run and as a result has significantly improved their completion time! The biggest bottleneck in dungeons is not DPS but rather movement check. I believe mobility is a huge problem in this game as it literally has no counter play in PvE and should be nerfed. At least berserker gear has some counters, which is you can easily wipe if you messed up on dodges. So I propose a solution to this problem. In games like smash brothers where mobility was at a point king, the developers decided to introduce a counter to it, where if you continuously dash, you have a chance to slip( http://supersmashbros.wikia.com/wiki/Prat_Falling ). I believe if anyone has swiftness boon or uses mobility skills too much, they should have a chance to slip. If other games like Smash Brothers does it, then it obviously would make sense to implement something similar in GW2.

PS its called speed running for a reason and not speed killing.

Edit: Okay I realized that it was stupid to implement the slip feature just like how it is stupid to implement tank healer in an action MMO game, so I would like to suggest a new moderate solution which is: Whenever you move while under the effects of swiftness you slowly degenerate endurance and whenever you use mobility skills you lose a little bit of endurance.

The game is already boring as it is. Most players run those lame kitten dungeons in auto pilot just for the daily gold. Its not fun and your proposed changes would actually make it even less fun than it already is.

People are forgetting, that all you get out of most dungeon runs are a few tokens which are useless after awhile and that small amount of gold.

10-15min dungeon runs for 1.5g is abysmal, padding it out by forcing the meta to change will just cause people to abandon dungeons entirely.

The issues aren’t the meta, the issues are the way the game works, how gear is gotten and the poor way in which content is framed and rewards are doled out.

The meta is just the most effective way to do the already mundane and monotonous content so people don’t want to shoot themselves after a few hours of playing.

I personally don’t even run dungeons anymore because after doing AC p1,2,3 everyday for 3 weeks I literally cannot stand it anymore.

High risk....no rewards?!

They messed up the loot system in this game. Rewards for content, RNG mechanics, all of it. Its all very very bad, very very unrewarding and very very unsatisfactory. Just like real life, the 1% get everything handed to them while the other 99% have to grind and scrape to get anything.

2 accounts 2 different loot experiences

Idk if anyone else has this. I have two accounts. 1) 25k+ AP, head start, 230% mf and 2) 1.8k+ AP, 3 months old, 86% mf.

Here’s my issue: My newer account gets drastically better loot. My main account hardly ever gets exotics while my new account gets them frequently. I had always had suspicion that certain players had better drops on average than other. In my guild and ally guilds we know which players will consistently get better drops. It’s so predictable it’s not funny. But, as all that was second hand I couldn’t ever really experience it for myself. Well, now I have.

I know others will say" RNG is RNG"….sorry I’m just not buying it. There are too many coincidences for that to fly anymore. I also know others will say…“we are programed to find patterns when there aren’t any”…sorry not buying that as the patterns emerge on their own accord.

Brace yourselves!…Get out your tinfoil hats!…and Hide behind you significant other! I’m going to claim that out loot code is borked!

With the limitations we have in terms of data, we the players have no clue how things work. We can only base our assumptions on what we experience and see. It’s very easy to say “it’s working as intended”, but really what does that mean? Is it intended that loot be equal? No. Does it mean loot is supposed to be fair? We don’t know. Does it mean that unless its absolutely kittened, it’s good enough? I have my hat on.

Thing is we simply don’t know as players. We are limited to very little evidence. Unfortunately most of the evidence I’ve come across as a player leans towards it being either broken or simply just bad loot algorithms. By that I"ll return to the question above. I cannot say I know it’s working correctly b/c I don’t know what working correctly is. I can however say it’s working poorly or broken since it defies logic.

Flame away………W O A L S p……..

Boy I gotta say I agree. I played this game avidly for months on two separate instances: at launch and since Feb or so of this year. Neither of those times have I gotten any drops worth over 8g. However, I see people playing less than me in a lesser variety of events etc, consistently get better drops.

I’m at the point where I do not enjoy the loot in this game at all. All the stuff that is worth anything is so random there is no fun in searching knowing you’re trying in vain. I see people who only log in to do Teq every once and a while get Precursors. I do believe them when they say it’s working as intended because I believe the game is meant to be unfair. Certain players are meant to get loot to put up for sale and the unlucky ones are meant to farm gold to keep the market going.

GW2 is not a perfect game, its a great game but it has alot of flaws. One of those is that the loot experience is absolutely terrible. Dungeons mean next to nothing, WvW means next to nothing, farming world bosses means next to nothing. Many people would like you to think that a large part of the enjoyment of MMORPG’s isn’t the satisfaction of getting good loot. Most on these forums will try to tell you that in an effort to belittle the a notion and sentiment that has pretty much been the cornerstone of any good RPG since their inception.

To Arenanet I just have to ask: Are you prioritizing the fun factor each of your players has? Or is all that matters the metrics and numbers of the TP that will cause people to buy gems and sell them or the items they get with them so they can finally progress past full exotics?

They really dropped the ball, loot and the satisfaction of getting good loot is nonexistent for all but the approx less than 1% of the game’s population who are “lucky” enough to win the RNG lottery. GW2 is simply abysmal in this regard.

Maybe not a grind but limit the amount of progress you can make per day or week or something.

After playing this game for 4 months, the most expensive item I ever got to sell was an exotic weapon that I salvaged to get a Superior sigil of Force (7g). I have done SW chest farm til I had 225 bags and got an exo spear and harpoon gun from all 225 bags. I have stacked PVP reward chests for all 40 tracks, twice and received no exotics when mass opening all with 300+ MF. I have done all the world bosses, everyday for about 3 weeks straight and I have literally only gotten 4 exotics, 3 of which are spears/harpoons/tridents. Best item was a 3.5g dagger.

I don’t know what else I am suppose to do to progress. It takes ages because I am not making money. I am doing the content consistently and persistently and getting nothing to show for it. It is beyond frustrating.

Try to do content you enjoy, and don’t worry about the money. I for example play a lot of pvp and solo WvW roaming, and the cash just comes naturally, a few silvers at a time. But yeah, you’ve been incredibly unlucky. I have maybe done only 30-40 rewards tracks in total since I began playing pvp, always with 80-110% MF, and have gotten numerous exotics, at least five ascended rings, two ascended armor chests, and three ascended weapon chests. RNG is a kitten.

I do, I’ve done pretty much everything in the game and I do it whenever I feel moved to do so. My only disappointment is in the gross lack of rewards. I am still having fun but when I see that cool skin I want and cant buy because I dont make enough gold even playing 8hrs a day it annoys me.

I understand all of that but I do not agree that timegating is the way to go. They could have increased the amount of mats needed so the added time would have been spent gathering them and I would have been fine with that.

At least you understand the benefit of time gating. Personally, I would rather have reduced material costs and a time gate than be forced to grind for hours. You might be able to grind it out faster, but your time spent would be vastly increased.

Do this achievement: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bioluminescence

You’ll get a free ascended chest piece and by the time you’re done, you’ll likely be past all the time gates and also have enough gold to simply buy everything. It’ll take about a month or two to do it by playing normally, or a week if you hardcore server hop and abuse the mechanics. You probably don’t have the episodes unlocked though.

I really liked this armor set and had plans to do it anyway. Really cool stuff. I don’t know though but thanks for the heads up.

That makes sense.

Actually, he has only played the game for four months out of two years. thats four months out of 24 months. In other words, 1/6th of the games current life time.

But that 1/6 of time is apparently far greater and far more important than people who have played it for the whole two years. His time is just that much more valuable than yours or mine apparently

This made me lol, I had no idea I was declaring that when I made a forum post on my account about MY experience.

Then you have to take into account the people who are actually hoarding the materials to wait for the best time to sell, which is usually during peak hours, or waiting for the average price to go up. Wanze tried to do this with his “control the market experiment” knowing full well there are people who use bank space to hold on to multiple stacks of items, waiting for the time they feel is right to sell such items. So while you “calculated” out that only a “few” crafters are benefiting from this, again, you are wrong. I can bet there are TP traders who are holding on to pieces to sell, they are just smart enough to know that if you flood the market, you drive the price down. The most recent development of this was with precursors once they announced precursor crafting. Suddenly, the high costing precursors began to plummet on the market, because it began to flood from people selling from their banks.

So again, you cant even conservatively estimate how much of one ascended item is in the game just by looking at the tp briefly.
[/quote]

Again, the numbers stated were for the purpose of illustrating the point. For you, I stated the point without the numbers and all you have done was taken second hand info from someone who is not here to speak for themselves. Which is just as bad as when you accused me of going to sites for the numbers I guesstimated.

All of that and you still have not answered the question. Do you agree that the number of crafters who benefit from this timegating justify the inconvenience to the wider playerbase? That’s all I am asking you, I am not asking Wanze, I am asking you.

Right….an adult that just wants it NOW NOW NOW, and cause you don’t like the system, than OFC the system is wrong and you are right. You don’t get it do you, Ascended Crafting, and Fractals are for a certain type of players, the old school ones used to grinding over and over and over for a certain thing, or for leveling up. The game is already holding your hand and spoonfeeding you like some sort of infant.

Maybe you just want Ascended Gear handed right and left…ohh you logged in 2 days in a row, let’s give this guy a Legendary…HELL give him all of them, he is such a good boy…such a good boy.

And no i’m not a “selected crafter” i don’t profit from this system, i just craft my own Ascended Set, and when i finish the medium one, i’ll craft a Heavy one, and then a Light one. (I’ll just be on of those that has one of each for all characters, instead of one for each character cause i’m lazzy like that xD)

You clearly aren’t paying attention so have a good day sir.

Ascended gear, along with fractals, were implemented to entice a certain type of player, as in the type that wants a generic dungeon grinding endgame. Back at launch, the WoW player base was demanding it, though everyone I personally knew quit before it was implemented. If you’re going to complain about the low stat increase, you’re definitely playing the wrong game because vertical progression isn’t the goal here. The idea was to make something that was slightly better to be appealing, yet also not matter. If you’re downscaled at all, ascended truly doesn’t matter, otherwise it’s only a small increase.

You’re not meant to make a piece a day. It’s meant to be a medium term goal, like one piece a month. Unlike other MMOs, anyone can casually craft ascended gear over time without really trying and the same is also true for legendaries.

I understand all of that but I do not agree that timegating is the way to go. They could have increased the amount of mats needed so the added time would have been spent gathering them and I would have been fine with that. Because on one hand you are building towards something and on the other you are waiting to use something you already built.

It doesn’t enhance the game, and if it doesn’t enhance the game, why is it in the game in the first place?

In case you haven’t realized an mmorpg is not the type of game that is mean to be played over a few weeks or a few months, but many years. The quickest way to get tired of playing an mmorpg is to burn yourself out by grinding.

If you want an item(s) that will take a long time to get, the best thing to do is go for them when you feel like it would be a fun thing to do, not because you want to finish something you’ve started. If you try grinding for sake of grinding, you will simply get tired of the game as a whole and quit. This happened to me with the last mmorpg i played. I went on questing marathon lasting a few days then took a break which ended up being permanent.

It is true yes gw2’s reward system is probably the worst amongst the top mmorpgs of the last decade but the upside is if you play the game just to have fun with it, you will have some pretty satisfying moments.

Finally about the ascended armour, i don’t think you really should bother with it unless you really want to do fractals. Even then, it is something i would try crafting over a long period of time. Just do stuff that you think would be interesting, you will naturally gain gold and mats along the way then just craft the armour bit by bit. It could take weeks or even months but you would have saved yourself a lot of grief by not trying to grind.

I play a lot of pvp and ive gotten a lot of free ascended armour, trinkets and weapons over time. Most may not be exact stats i am looking for, but ascended dosen’t give any real boost so i just see them as extra shiny things that are nice to have.

People play games for different reasons buddy, my total play time is now about 4 months even after a 2 year break. 4 months is not a small amount of time nor is it the largest but at its core a game should be fun and entertaining.

GW2 is entertaining but just like how pay to win rubs people the wrong way and not others, mechanics like these would rub someone like me the wrong way as there is no valid justification for them being in the game.

If crafting ascended made you quit the game, why are you still here? we don’t need another attention kitten on the forums.

Okay so let me break this down for you like this, Legendaries and Full Ascended Sets are like a woaman, If it’s easy it’s not worth it. You know what else is easy and everyone has it? Rares and Exotics…i mean once you hit 80 with your first character in your first week in the game BOOOM full exotics. Done

I started like a monthor two ago again with a thief, i have almost all the materials for my full ascended set(do miss like 2k silk scraps, but it’s fine), i leveled ANOTHER profession to 500(Already have weaponsmithing and armorsmithing) but the time gated pieces never bothered me. Why you might ask? Your topic is the reason…NOT EVERYONE IS ABLE TO JUST CRAFT THEM…so for me it’s even better ^^ i’m one of the few that can do this, that has the patience.

I don’t want my set NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW. I just want to work towards it.

Also the same with my legendarie, i want one, i have no precursor but i’m almost finished with the “Gifts”, i’m in no hurry, one day one will either drop, pop form the forge, or by the time i finish the gift with 250 powerfull bloods, i’ll have enough money to buy one.

But do you know why i have no problems with ascended/legendaries being so hard to get? CAUSE I ENJOY THE GAME, i do fractals, dungeons for fun, with guildies, have a laugh. Try a new build a new utilitie, do some bosses, farm a little, craft some rare dagger toss them in the forge…(cry a little in the corner cause i got no spark)

If you can’t enjoy the game now withouth ascendend/legendarie, you will not enjoy the game even if you get them.

I’ll ignore your rude opening remarks because, well, I am an adult not a child.

I already said I enjoy the game. I already said I don’t mind working for my gear. I already said what I would have done had I been able to craft the gear as I got the mats which is still afew weeks off.

Now onto the real problem, which are arbitrary systems timegating what I have and would have fairly earned over the course of playing the game. There is no need for the system to be there, some speculated its to keep persons logging in daily , others that it is so a select few crafters, like yourself, can profit from it.

Neither of those are good reasons for its existence. As a crafter your perspective is appreciated but you havent added anything I didnt already know. The 50 people with the patience will craft and sell. The thousands of others will either ignore the presence of the ascended gear/buy pieces or wait it out. That doesnt mean it doesnt affect them.

I don’t stand for certain things, I am very wary of gameplay mechanics being directly influenced by extraneous factors.

ESPECIALLY since ascended armor doesn’t even offer a significant stat increase over exotic.

so….if its not worth it…don’t do it….? You don’t NEED ascended unless you are planning high level fractals, you don’t need it…at all….

Heck, even after its release, I STILL don’t have a full set of ascended yet. I could, but I don’t NEED IT. I just craft a piece when the mats come to me. I’m still sitting on the ascended chest from my luminescent gear collection, not even sure what piece I want.

Its inherently limiting, its the underlying issue of not being able to reap rewards of my work and the accomplishment in doing so that is bugging. Its the arbitrary implementation of the system to begin. It does not NEED to be in the game, yet it is and it is directly affecting my enjoyment as well as progress in the game.

Just because you don’t understand why they implemented it it doesn’t mean it was arbitrary, so i’ll explain it to you:
Anet wanted crafters to be able to make money out of the new crafting levels, so they made it so that if you wanted to craft your ascended set as fast as possible you would have to buy the crafted pieces from, (you guessed it!), crafters. If they didn’t they the price for the ascended mats would be basically the price of base mats+1s and thatd be it, nothing to be gained for crafters. So with this system in place, crafters make money by selling their time-gated product to people that are impatient and can’t wait around to craft it themselves, and there’s no harm done to the people that are impatient since they’d be farming the money for it anyways.

So, you’re trying to tell me, that the reason I can’t utilise my 500 in armorsmithing to the fullest extent, the reason I have to farm gold or buy gems and sell them for gold or wait 36 days, the reason why sooo many people are aggrieved and make endless threads about this terrible system, is so some crafters could make abit of gold on the side?

Pure Genius, way to go Anet, sacrifice the needs of the many for the small few.* If you look on TP right now, there are only 30-50 pieces of the buyable components available. That is, at most, 50 crafters x number of components available. Which, at most, is a few hundred persons. *

GW2 was bought by millions and is currently played by atleast 200k casually or otherwise. So, you mean to tell me you agree with the justification of sacrificing the needs of hundreds of thousands of people, just so a very small percentage could make some gold on the side?

I

You don’t know how the TP works do you? I mean, i know you came back and all, and I doubt wanze is still up, but he could reallllly school you on this. Which is why its laughable XD.

As for your numbers….source? Cause, only anet knows those numbers properly. Anything else is just some website giving a guess at best for population.

So the only thing you are being denied is level 25+ fractals. in which then you need to infuse ascended gear with agony resist infusions anyway, which you get by running lower level fractals, or buying from the TP.

Wait, are you serious? Did you read my other replies are do you just want to come in here, offer no real contribution and try to derail the discussion by ad hominem? Ofcourse I have no exact numbers, I made no claim to, there is no need to. The numbers were estimated conservatively to make my point. Which was the number of crafters who profit from this system is laughable compared to the number of players directly affected by it. If you disagree please state your point as I would be happy to read it.

What would you have done after obtaining your ascended gear?

What I usually do, challenge the hardest content available. High Level Fractals and also play a more active role in WvW, helping guildies in dungeons etc.

Slowly but surely work towards a legend or two.

I think you may be approaching this from the wrong direction. While it’s nice to have, there isn’t any pressing need for ascended armor in the game currently outside of high level Fractals, so there’s no reason for you to have to rush through making it. Especially since you are now able to process the time-gated materials, just play the game normally and you’ll have your set soon enough.

This. Getting things like Legendaries or ascended gear should not be your reason for playing the game, OP. You should play a game because you enjoy playing it. IF you enjoy playing it enough that you want to go for expensive, long-term rewards, then great! If you’re less involved/more casual about it, then you can easily do everything in GW2 in easily-available exotics.

Both times you’ve quit the game, are because you’ve set yourself difficult long-term goals (including further self-imposed limitations to make it more difficult – ie. your desire to gather+craft everything yourself), but are unwilling to invest the time and effort needed to achieve them.

First time was due to lack of content more so than the fact I could not get a legendary, that played a minor role.

I do agree with your first para but you must realise, this time I did put in the time and effort and am unable to reap the reward because of an arbitrary and unnecessary mechanic.

Ask yourself, would the game be broken if the timer were not in place?

Then think about all the people hard done and aggrieved by it. There is no justification for its existence.

But you just contradicted yourself there, if it was never supposed to be something that can be bypassed with a credit card, why can people still buy the timegated pieces of the TP? They can buy gems, sell gems and buy the gear, simple.

The time gated pieces can be bought of the TP because anet wanted crafters to be able to make money out of this if they so wanted.

I wouldn’t mind that if I was able to craft the gear as a I got the mats which I also stated wouldnt just be afew days. It took me 2 weeks to get crafting to 500 and it will take me another 2 weeks to farm the rest of the mats, thats still a month. Not a short amount of time at all.

You can craft as you get the mats for it tho, just set yourself a lower goal for getting enough mats for every piece you need to craft every day and after that’s done you can use w/e time you have left on the day to do as you want. Much better than farming mats non-stop until you get everything to craft ur set, but that’s just my opinion. And if by chance you end up getting enough mats for everything you plan on crafting and still need to wait it out, you can just log in everyday for a couple mins to craft it, get your daily login reward, and log out if you so desire.
Besides you said you wanted to get ready for when HoT is released, and it’s not like it’s getting dropped anytime soon, so what would you do after you rushed to craft that set in 2 weeks? Just take your time, make sure you craft as much as you can every day, do things you want to do and once HoT is released, you’ll have your set ready.
Also in case you don’t know, the ascended equipments are all account bound, so while they don’t offer much stat-wise over exotics its a great convenience if you got more than one character that uses the same equip types.

What you suggested is probably what most people would suck it up and do. However, I dont like arbitrary systems that have no need or purpose directly hampering my progress. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and everytime I play I would be reminded of that.

It does not NEED to be in the game, yet it is and it is directly affecting my enjoyment as well as progress in the game.

lol, Dejavu, swear I have seen a thread with almost same title a few weeks ago.

I agree the time gating is annoying, but apparently that’s what Anet going by nowadays, and it’s work as intended, they just want to see you log in every day.

Well I am done, it had the opposite effect, people should login because their game is fun and rewarding, not because they have to to be able to see a return on the time and effort they already put in, come to some useful header.

I’m not sure I get the point of the OP’s post. Ascended armor isn’t supposed to be easy to get in the first place. Sure, timegating is annoying, but it is what it is; take it as an attempt to simulate the difficulty of making very complex components, move on, and get on with the job. More appropriate, IMO, to criticize why it takes 300 silk to make the 100 bolts of silk needed to create one spool of silk weaving thread – in the real world, that would create a whopping big load of silk thread, enough to sew up a couple thousand bolts of damask!

The point is i am farming the mats which takes time, getting the profession to max to be able to craft the gear in the first place, which also takes time and ontop of that I cannot make the stuff I put in the time for until I wait an exorbitant and disproportional amount of time.

All these topics have been addressed in other threads. One point of error is that
Time Gate =/= Grind.

Umm, yes it does, the grind is two fold. Grind for mats and the waiting that it takes to be able to craft them in the first place.

It is even worse than running a dungeon over and over until you get the drop you wanted as it effectively adds a countdown timer even after you get the drop.

Ascended gear wasn’t designed to be gear to get in a few days or after using a credit card to buy gems to turn to gold to buy mats to immediately turn into gear.

It’s been a well known fact since Ascended gear came out that there are time gated materials. You can either buy the time gated materials or wait the 36 days. If you feel you must feel self-sufficient, you can buy the materials now, but make the materials anyway to sell to others who do not wish to wait.

It was released to appease the players who needed a long term goal to work toward but felt that the legendary was just too much work for them. The players from other MMO’s where vertical progression is the norm and you had to grind out the BiS gear.

Unless you’re doing high level fractals or are in a very hard core guild for WvW or dungeons, then ascended gear really isn’t going to prevent you from doing anything in this game. 36 days really isn’t all that long to wait for a gear set to be complete when the gear set really won’t affect your game all that much.

Especially when they allow the result of the time gated crafting to be bought on the TP. You aren’t forced to wait the 36 days.

The time gate is passable by time or gold.

But you just contradicted yourself there, if it was never supposed to be something that can be bypassed with a credit card, why can people still buy the timegated pieces off of the TP? They can buy gems, sell gems and buy the gear, simple.

First of all I love GW2. I bought this game at launch and played it for months before I finally lost the enjoyment due to lack of meaningful endgame content and the grind that was the Legendary weapon.

Now, I came back, 2 weeks ago today, to get back into the game I once loved in time for the new expansion that is forthcoming in the next few months.

I decided first, to level my armorsmith profession to begin working on my ascended set.

I am an honest player, I couldn’t afford gems to sell for gold so I grinded for all my equipment. I had 6g when I came back to this game and had to farm for those two weeks just to be able to get armorsmithing to 500. When I hit that mark a few hours ago I had 11 silver left. However, I also had some ascended material components I had been desperately trying to secure for when I finally got to max crafting level.

I set myself a lofty goal of crafting one piece of ascended gear every day or every other day until I had my full set, then I’d work on lvling weaponsmithing to make my weapon.

So for me to quite suddenly realise that I could only craft ONE ascended spool and ONE ascended ingot a day made me think about how ludicrous the amount of time it would take for me to see the fruits of any labour I were to put in.

I play the game in a self contained manner, I take pride in farming my own mats and when I can’t I buy and supplement what I have. This system however is the most passive grindfest I have ever seen.

Anet has spoken many times about their philosophy of not wanting players to feel like they are grinding and this system has easily, easily surpassed any amount of grind I have seen in any game.

Yes, I could farm the gold and buy most of the components off the TP but that would not only take away my sense of accomplishment, it would make all the work I did mostly redundant(cept for leveling armorsmithing) as well as ruin the fun I could have, not having to min-max every activity I chose to do based on how much gold it would make me. That is in no way fun or in no way how I would want to spend my time in GW2.

To further compound the issue, confound and offend my senses is how RNG loot is. I have played this game for months now, approaching 4 actually ( 3 and a half back at launch and 2 weeks since being back) and I have NEVER gotten an item worth more than 5 gold.

I have farmed world boss events, dungeons, WvW, spvp, you name it, I don’t have the luck of the draw, so everything is that much harder. That also means I know that I will not enjoy having to farm or hope to win the loot lottery just to be able to feel like I am progressing in this game.

I have loved everything else since I came back and was setting up to play this til the expansion came and then drop whatever price they asked immediately. Now, I refuse to be taken for a fool who is being indirectly forced to “grind” the gear I could have in half the time or less. It is an unacceptable mechanic. ESPECIALLY since ascended armor doesn’t even offer a significant stat increase over exotic.

I believe if I farm the mats and put in the work, both of which take time, I should be able to reap my rewards and not have some arbitrary barrier placed solely for the purpose of keeping me logging in. It has done the exact OPPOSITE and from reading the crafting section I can glean that many people hate the mechanic.

The market being flooded doesn’t matter because people with enough gold can still buy the gear, same as always.

All I have to show for 2 weeks of work in this game is Deldrimor Steel Helmet Casing… lulz. To me that is unacceptable. Anet has not delivered what they promised, I am not getting a rewarding experience that is commensurate to the time I put in. I have to play the waiting game for components I already have the mats for, madness.

I have played other games for longer periods and even then I never faced a situation where I could not reap the rewards of my efforts after…ya know…sewing the seeds. Its akin to entering a dungeon and getting that weapon drop you always wanted, that you have been farming for, then seeing a 30 day countdown timer added to it until you can equip it. Ridiculous.

Shame on you Anet, I am extremely disappointed. Unfortunately, you already had my 60$ 2+ years ago so there is no reason for you to care about me. But rest assured, I will not recommend this game to anyone else knowing these kinds of surreptitious actions are occurring in a game that is otherwise the most polished MMO on the market.

TLDR

I am not sitting for 36 days looking at materials, incrementally crafting gear that I should have access to as soon as I finish putting in the work for it.

Where is the player loyalty?
