General idea of precursor crafting has been released, and I must say, I am intrigued.

When the announcement even took place in January, and Colin said that they have been working on ways to keep the old maps vibrant, I will admit to my skepticism. It’s a difficult task to keep people spread out when an expansion opens a map. However, after reading about Map Bonuses (described in the post linked), I am impressed.

It’s been some time since we’ve seen real, useful rewards that we don’t hope pops out of a shiny chest. Rewarding useful crafting materials and sending players on elaborate quests to use them sounds like the kind of thing that will keep me busy for a long time. I’m excited to participate in this system, and look forward to hearing more.

Thanks guys! Keep up the good work.

We also want to better preserve the prestige associated with crafting a legendary weapon, so the new legendary weapons, and their precursors, will not be tradable.

^^; Ouch, so the old legendaries are old and un-prestige worthy?

Other than that, I love the idea

Well what are they supposed to do, leave everyone trying to sell one of those out in the cold? I don’t think it would be a good idea to suddenly make old legendaries non-tradeable.

Yes, and you also have to craft the precursor in the end(who knows what mats are needed for them), not just do the collections.

So that means only people who worked for it will get the new legendary weapon skins, it definitely already looks more prestigious to get, since not everyone can just use there credit cards to buy them. Now it definitely makes crafting the new legendary a journey, worthy to be called a legendary.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the idea behind precursor crafting supposed to be about making the “base” version of the legendary more available than just a lucky drop or gamble?

Getting the other parts and gifts to craft a legendary is plenty grindy enough. I sincerely hope crafting the precursor isn’t a grind at all, but something that is enjoyable to travel throughout Tyria and explore its mysteries.

No need to make more grind. I figure there is more than enough grind already, we need more fun.

Yeah, I would expect that if someone has the Moot, it will automatically unlock the new Energizer skins.

I hope the current skins just get a new name. I helped someone make Rodgort because I like Rodgort’s Flame.. So I got the skin I wanted and he got his legendary. I know, I know.. QQ already?!?! AFAIK this particular one doesn’t share a skin, so we’ll see what they come up with!

I am excited to see this in game. I loved making the Ambrite weapons, and I like having long term goals in a game.

And to everyone saying legendaries are only now worth getting… A large portion of the new ones will still be needing tier 6 mats and lodestones, etc. So it largely can still be “bought.” You just can’t buy the precursor or legendary itself.

I find the little side infos about the changed Map Reward System far more exiting and awesome personally, than the news about the legendary craftign system.

Finally will receive all the maps a good reason more to keep on visitign and playing on all of those maps, because playing all all maps and not just only on the high end maps becomes alot more rewarding for doing so and exploring the maps isn’t anymore just a

“one time done and gone forever” type of gameplay, where you explore the maps just only mostly once for the single map exploration reward and to get the 100% exploration for the gift of exploration once per Character.
I hope that new system makes it also possible to get as many gifts of exploration as you want, so that there won’t be any need anymore to make countless new character slots with 100% expplored characters, just so that you can get more gifts of explorations for your legendary weapons to create, which is a horrible system to begin with in itself and exists so far only to force players to buy new character slots if they wanted so far to have more than just only 1 legendary weapon.

With making Map Exploration Rewards a repeatable thign with various different rotational rewards for each map, each map will become a much better more rewarding sandbox kind of place, which you want to keep on playing on and keep on returning to all of them once in a while, especialyl when you get with these rotational rewards all the stuff that you need for all kinds of craftign stuff, legendaries and maybe also other kinds of craftable things, like hopefully also materials for crafting ascended weapons/armors also too, so that the new map exploration rewards will help in making these things again more alt character friendly.

With this improvement, I hope Anet doesn’t forget to improve the older maps further with other missing map improvements which they introduced with Season 2 into the game like:

  • Making Events more rewardable by giving Players little Chests for doing sucessfully Dynamic Events
  • Giving over time all Maps their own Region Achievements

Every “Reason” for why players should keep on playing on all the various maps, making the maps more sandbox like, are good things, which will just improve massively the longevity of the whole game, make the game less stale by providign the game to have always “something” to do, that rewards the player somehow with somethign useful for the player, that the player may use somewhen later perhaps for a longterm goal or may use it to make some good money with it from selling it to get gold for maybe some kind of othe personal goals people work on, like for example collecting other stuff like minis, colors, collection weapons, skins ect from buying them at the TP from other players, where such things like a new Map Reward System doesn’t help you out with such things, but where just raw Gold can help you only…

However, with all the new collection achievements from making legendaries, be it old ones or new ones coming, I wish that ANet would spent somewhen in the future also some more love and time with fixing the old achievements and improving also the old achievements by adding for example new ranks to them for those, which are very quickly maxed out, what would be also a way to add some new interestign titles/rewards to them.

What I miss is also something like a special achievement with title, that you can improve only by collecting titles. Something in GW2, that works exactly the same way, like the Hall of Monuments in GW1.

I wish that we would see somewhen in the future, when we might return to more of the old EotN territories someday when we will go for slaying Jormag for example, that we iwll return also to the Hall of Monuments and that Anet will rework it then also , so that it will become again a full explorable outpost with its own unique reward system behind. That would be awesome.

But I get offtopic by too much brainstorming right now xD

I guess it will, because changing the map reward system is such a super generic gameplay system.

Why should this work only in HoT. From what I have understood from the article is, that they changed the whole system and not just made changes for only the HoT maps.
They clearly speak in the blog about it, how for exampel the new system works on also older maps like the Silver Waste, which is naturally a map, that you can visit and explore, also without owning HoT.

So I think its pretty sure and non misunderstandable, that the new system will work just simply for everyone, regardless if now HoT owner, or not.

PS: and don’t hype that picture about the Energizer Collection to let the game unneccessarly freak out.

ANet used item icons clearly oftenly for multiple various things already in the past and be rest assured, that also alot of those items simply are only PLACE HOLDERS to not spoil the players to let the TP speculators ruin the game economy even far more for absolutely everyone.
That Anet uses the same icons for different thigns can you clearly see in that exampel picture, where the minipet queen jennah icon is used just for the activity to dance for Jennah as a trophy of that collection.

SO don’t think that only because you can see an icon there, where you believe, oh, this must be Item X, so it will be part of the collection, that this item must be at all really part of the collection at all.

ANet already showed also from begin on the attitude to spam the game full with countless item icon doublettes, just to change them out from patch to patch slowly with own unique icons by stealth, never saying any words about it, when they actualize lots of item icons in the patch notes.

“Expansion content” that was originally dangled in front of the player base back in 2013 as a QoL update that was put on hold and is now being packaged with the xpac. Sorry, but this was a feature that Anet shopped to people a while back as a free update to the game and now people will need to pay to get it.

Excuse me if i think that is just a touch on the greedy, disingenuous side of things. It would have been fine if they stated back then that they were shelving it and that it might only be available with an xpac. Instead they strung people along every time it was brought up in the forums.

I imagine not, but the article does not say one way or the other. And Masteries and Specializations are HoT-specific.

I agree. Some amount of each game mode should be required to craft a precursor/legendary. But I don’t think players should be able to strictly pvp their way to one, just as I don’t believe it should be PvE only tasks
