I guess it will, because changing the map reward system is such a super generic gameplay system.

Why should this work only in HoT. From what I have understood from the article is, that they changed the whole system and not just made changes for only the HoT maps.
They clearly speak in the blog about it, how for exampel the new system works on also older maps like the Silver Waste, which is naturally a map, that you can visit and explore, also without owning HoT.

So I think its pretty sure and non misunderstandable, that the new system will work just simply for everyone, regardless if now HoT owner, or not.

I didn’t ask about which maps it will affect, as that is clearly stated. I wondered if it will be only available to those that own the expansion. If the account will trigger the reward (bouncy chest/whatever form it takes).

I imagine not, but the article does not say one way or the other. And Masteries and Specializations are HoT-specific.

Yeah, because those thigns that you list up there are part of the expansions MAIN FEATURES

ANet showed with the expansion trailer also alot of small changes, like the currently changed change of the Stability System or the upcoming change of the Defiance System of Enemies, where they will change that system to that new “Break Bar”, which qwill also be a thing, that won’t be exlusive for HoT only, but will also be something with that Anet will actualize the whole game just via a normal Patch for everyone

There is no reason for why anet should make the Map reward System Redesign out of a sudden a HoT exlusive Feature, when it is absolutely NOT part of the expansions Main Features at all, but just a part of many far more minior game improvements, that just happen to touch parts of the games more overall gameplay systems.

Main Features of Heart of Thorns, which are 100% dead sure exlusive to the expansion are only:

- The Revenant
- Guild Halls
- Specializations
- Masteries
- PvP Mode Stronghold

These things above are kind of the Main Features of the expansion, which you wil ldefinetely receive only, when you own HoT.
The change of the Map Reward System is for me clearly just a minor overall game improvement, from which everyone will be able to profit from, which will be something, that we wil lsurely see within one of the next patches as overall game improvement before HoT gets released, just like they changed with the last patch also the Stability System, where the info, that this system will get changed was also something that we got to know based on some HoT related infos

Some things you need just to read between the lines, or would it make sense for you, if ANet would make a Qol Improvement, from which everyone and the whole Game would just profit from by makign the whole game more fun to play on and that in all of its maps, because of them becoming more rewarding in general with a better more sandbox system liek reward system, that doesn’t stop being rewarding anymore just after the first full exploration – to make somethign good like that gated behind an expansion, when the game has already other way better and more important reasons as main features that should give one plenty enough reasons already to go buy that expansion??

For me at least it would make absolutely no sense at all, because such a “bad” decision would be clearly a thing, that would make alot of players just only mad and rage about such thigns like “HoT becomes P2W” and such stuff about what people would get angry about then, if the game would become much more rewarding only for people who buy the expansion and not just simply for everyone.

Because making the game more rewarding and fun to play on everywhere would be compared to that just the right decision, as that decision will definetely have also the chance to lead to the poin,t that it might brign alot of inactive players to come back again, where kittening people off about treating HoT owners in any kind of way better, than Non-HoT owners most likely would result in just the 100% opposite thing in which way Anet would be just total stupid, if they really would want to follow that kind of game design of the “better player treatment-carrot for buying the expansions-method”

Nah, I am refusing to believe, that Anet would ever get so low to actually do something like that with HoT.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

I hope crafting the precursors are a grind and not something that can be completed in a matter of hours.

I hope that crafting the precursors isn’t a grind deliberately designed to make the player give up, grind gold, and buy off the TP (which is exactly what I suspect it will be).

As opposed to what? The current method of hoping for a drop, luck with the MF…or buying on the TP?

I don’t understand.

There is no point in crafting a precursor if the amount of time invested could be used elsewhere to grind gold to just buy a precursor.

Say for instance you need 800 gold to buy a precursor off the TP, and we’ll say that it takes 10 weeks of grinding gold to make that much (hypothetical here, I have no idea how long it does or doesn’t take to make 800gold).

If the new precursor crafting takes 18 weeks while doing similar activities, then it is stupid to go the new route. Just grind gold for 10 weeks and buy it off the TP.

Personally, from what I’ve seen with Anet, that is exactly what they’ll do. They’ll make the precursor grind so obscene that people will just default to farming gold or, as Anet really wants, opening their wallets to buy gold.

Where are my gem sales? I want gem sales! Nerf EVERYTHING!

Who cares about Legendaries.

The new map reward system is so much more important.

Hell this will make Legendaries a realistic goal rather than something absurd that nerds spend years on grinding for. On top of actually fixing the super inconvenient system used to hand out rewards in SW while also improving all maps with a nice new reward system.

There are people who are fine with grinding gold to get their precursor, there’s nothing wrong with that. The point of the scavenger hunt is for people who don’t want to have to mindlessly grind gold and instead would like a quest-like alternative that is more engaging – even if it does take longer to get.

Personally, I’d much rather be able to go into the game and say “Okay, today i’m going to do this and kill this and collect this as I work toward my precursor collection” instead of “Okay, today I am going to do all of the dungeons again (as a gold-making example)”

Furthermore, your last point just doesn’t make sense. I highly doubt they spent all this time creating a system to craft precursors if they didn’t actually want people to USE the system. Not to mention the new precursors are account bound, so they cannot be bought.

this is all we know…no need to get on a rampage here, and even if it is a grind(the new way to get a precursor) just go to the old way…problem solved. I doubt it will take longer, it will take just as long…but will be something different to do for a change, who knows…just chill and enjoy the good news we have ^^ no need to look for something to complain…

There’s something that I didn’t quite understand in the article. Will Dry Top/ Silverwastes be changed in any way, or will they remain the same as they currently are?

EDIT: Also, I hope that map bonuses have some flavor behind them. Example: snowy maps should offer glacial cores more often.

I Always found the players saying “Been playing since launch took a break in between, came back 2 1/2 yrs later and wtf no legendary yet WHY?!” (tad exaggerated) a complete joke. This “Legendary journey” is turning to be a complete crapfest that’s pushing me and some other SUPER dedicated vets away (which most dedicated vets do is explain/help/and walk new players along the game). ANET … first BIG mistake was allowing the precursors and legendaries to be tradeable in the first place (granted I wouldn’t have what I have now if not for this case, but buying your “legend” wtf…). So whatever we (people who didn’t take a break for months/yrs) grinded out our legendaries just so you can add a easier way of getting these (not confirmed, but why the hell would they add a new method then). And on top of all that …

“We also want to better preserve the prestige associated with crafting a legendary weapon, so the new legendary weapons, and their precursors, will not be tradable.”

Blew my mind… so all that work simply to get the prestige of the existing legendaries was all a joke… good job… I was excited for a new expansion, but this news… well its was what I had feared. 4k twilights and sunrises out there are already a bit much, soooo F it lets add another 10k… Terrible.

The collection system looks good, but I think it should be in addition to the existing systems, not taking one of them away. Precursors obtained through RNG, whether it be drops or the forge, should remain tradeable. Perhaps making them even more rare to encourage use of the new system, but still leaving the old as an option. Keep only the pres obtained through the new collections bound.

Having RNG pre drops being bound sets up for some really massive disappointment. I know I’d be more than slightly bothered if I had a bound pre drop for a legendary I’ve already made or have no interest in making. If these drops must be bound, at least have them be an exchangeable token, instead of giving us an extremely rare bound item that we have absolutely no use for.

Honestly this is a much more enjoyable idea on the surface. I’m working on my first Legendary currently, and the world completion is tedious as my motivation for clearing each area is nothing other than that. There are no special quests to draw me there, and nothing of great interest to pull me in. Grinding mats for an amazing weapon takes the polish off of it as well.

A journey to acquire Legendaries, giving them a real back story as to how they were acquired rather than, “I spent months grinding out chests” is a much more exciting and meaningful experience for all players, on top of making it so that the new precursors and Legendaries won’t be up for trade. A journey for each gives a lot more playable value to players than a mat and gold grind with prayers to the RNG gods mixed in.

It’s also nice that the new ones can’t simply be bought. Players who have them will know that they did what was necessary to get them, there’s a clear path to gain the achievement, and there’s no buy in through real money or gating for attainment via TP games. All things have opportunity costs, but the ones introduced with this system are much more palatable than the current ones.

Who ever said the current legendaries are easy to obtain, im simply saying in comparison to the new ones they are, just for the fact that you CANNOT buy them from the tp, and instead have to work your way to them. The truth in the matter is it took them 2 1/2 yrs to correct this! I like the new idea, but I think its bs that it took them this long to fix something crucial to veterans. Most people who disagree have little experience in fashionwars or can care less, but its what kept the people who beat the content over and over still interested in the game. All in all im not here to bash peoples opinions, but instead voice my own, I have TONS of love for this game… but I and many others feel like all we did was grind a timesink that is hitting the reset button with little to no care about those who spent it all.

The fact that the new ones are account bound is some of the best news I’ve read about the expansion. I despise that current legendaries are not account bound.

With the new ones being account bound, yes, it’s a great thing, and it makes them no longer a “legendary credit card purchase”, and I agree that having a path that does not involve grinding gold is a big deal. My main concern has been in regards to current legendaries, but for now will have to just sit back and see what Anet pulls out of their monetization hat.

I really hope that I read correctly in this info that we will be able to deliberately target obtaining specific materials, and that it includes the T6 mats.
I’m building Frenzy right now, and much as I ran into it with Dreamer, there always seems to be a couple T6 mats that just don’t drop as often as the others. I’ve had 250 Fangs for some time now, for example, but powerful blood, etc. are all still sub 100 in quantity.

I agree. Some amount of each game mode should be required to craft a precursor/legendary. But I don’t think players should be able to strictly pvp their way to one, just as I don’t believe it should be PvE only tasks

I would really like that, but they seem to be moving in a more PvE direction as shown with the map completion requirement changes. I’m more just hoping that I won’t be forced to do a ton of PvE just to get a skin I want with no other options.

Just as you won’t have access to any of the other new skins/maps/skills, etc introduced in the expansion. Why do people keep thinking they should be given expansion content for not buying the expansion?

“Expansion content” that was originally dangled in front of the player base back in 2013 as a QoL update that was put on hold and is now being packaged with the xpac. Sorry, but this was a feature that Anet shopped to people a while back as a free update to the game and now people will need to pay to get it.

Excuse me if i think that is just a touch on the greedy, disingenuous side of things. It would have been fine if they stated back then that they were shelving it and that it might only be available with an xpac. Instead they strung people along every time it was brought up in the forums.

Isn’t it greedy on the players side to assume that everything outside what was originally included on the game CD has to be free?

Did you miss the part about how Anet first talked about the feature as a free QoL feature to the game back in 2013? Did you miss the part about them stringing along the player base before just going silent about it? Or how it would have been fine if they just admitted back then that they were not going to offer it as a QoL update anymore?

Did they specifically state free back then? You’re making the assumption that anything outside of the game CD that you bought must be free. The precursor scavenger hunt was postponed because of the wardrobe and collections.

They were actually implying this before release, it not directly mentioning it. I know there was also specific mention of finding hints or clues in the world about what is required to make a legendary…and here we are 2.5 years later, and I’m fairly sure no one has found anything like that.

The idea was certainly sold to players as a QoL feature to be added later, not as part of a paid expansion. I’m glad we’re getting it now, and while it is disappointing to see it not as a free feature update, I’m not too bothered by it.

Good to know people without the xpac get to continue having fun with the RNG.

slowclap****

They were actually implying this before release, it not directly mentioning it. I know there was also specific mention of finding hints or clues in the world about what is required to make a legendary…and here we are 2.5 years later, and I’m fairly sure no one has found anything like that.

The idea was certainly sold to players as a QoL feature to be added later, not as part of a paid expansion. I’m glad we’re getting it now, and while it is disappointing to see it not as a free feature update, I’m not too bothered by it.

Unless they specifically stated that it would be free then you cannot say that they lied or purposely held this off for the sole purpose of making money. “Implying” is not evidence as people can see only what they want to see and the create their own connection to justify it. Why not complain that the new maps will be locked behind the paid expansion when previous updates have provided them for free?

Anyway, this topic is outside the scope of the OP’s post. If you’d like to discuss this further please create a new thread.

If I may ask, how would they make something like this right? Can they do that anymore than they can give back to those who did WvW to get map completion now that it’s no longer a requirement? I agree that the current method is garbage, and I’m likely going to stop worrying about it as I don’t foresee completing what I’ve started before this becomes viable, but I don’t see how they can “correct” things for those who ground it out the hard way over the past few years.

Anyone else notice that the Preserved Queen Bee is in the collection for The Energizer?

“Targeted Reward” better include that one for Silverwastes or there won’t be a point to the collection – it’s as rare as a precursor and currently costs more than Dawn and The Legend on the TP.

I thought that was a Fossilized Insect. I guess I’d have to see the two icons side by side.

And now that I’ve read the rest of the thread I see a question no one’s asked — what will be needed to make the precursor once you finish the collection? At least in the Energizer example, what you get is the recipe for making it, not the Energizer itself.

If the recipe needs tradeable mats, that could affect the market quite a bit.

Doesn’t sound fun so far. Collecting all kinds of crap. Is getting lumi armor fun? Not really, takes time though. I guess same is gonna be with precursors. Sure, it’s better than what is currently in place. But it have little to do with “epic journey” concept.

Anet you finally did it! You fixed precursors, legendaries, empty maps and farming for crafting materials! You are really great, and you just proved that you keep your promises and listen to the community. The problem with straightforward farming for mats was really a big issue for me. Now it will be fun again to just kill mobs and do old events. I don’t have as much time to play as I used to, but you can expect my money for the Xpack, and many gems :-P

Did they specifically state free back then? You’re making the assumption that anything outside of the game CD that you bought must be free. The precursor scavenger hunt was postponed because of the wardrobe and collections.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Is-precursor-crafting-going-to-happen-or-not/first#post2981770

Both a link to the original mention and the follow up from Colin. it was supposed to be a QoL update in 2013 that was delayed, not not because of the the collections or the wardrobe, but because they were having problems implementing it at the time, and that was fine, BUT they continued to talk about it as a QoL/free update if and when they did talk about it and never once said it was going to be delayed until a potential xpac release. So yes, the linked post and the MANY others you can Google for from people asking time and time again for a status update on this feature establish that it was in fact meant to be a free update to the game that is now only available with the paid expansion.

And as I’ve said at least 3 times now: If they just said up front that it would now only be available come an xpac instead of silently stringing people along I wouldn’t have any issue with it, but that is not the case. And since this topic is, in fact, about the precursor crafting they talked about back in 2013, then these posts are very much on topic.

as i brought up in my other topic on the HoT subforum the mats part has me intrigued about 1 what mats will be part of it and 2 how they will handle the potential flux of materials to the TP

i wouldn’t be opposed to having the map bonus be account bound to prevent upsetting current prices if Anet feels they are in a good place

I think there are both, the bee as well as the insect. They are on the same row. I’m also worried about the Chaos of Lyssa icon… doesn’t it only drop from the Crown Pavilion which is not even in game right now?

That is exactly what they did. They knew back at the end of 2013 that there was going to be an xpac, and they decided to take one of the most heavily desired QoL changes and shove it into the xpac so they could charge for it. They couldn’t get enough people to pay real cash for precursors on the TP, so they came up with a new way to do it.

It’s a stretch of semantics to say that it’s not totally dishonest. It was a feature touted along with other free updates (features which we did get for free), and long before any mention of a paid expansion. This was a time when living story was the only new content for the foreseeable future.

It’s possible that they just threw some icons together to prevent people from buying up materials.

This is the part of the collection that concerns me, too. I hope it’s just a reused icon, or a temporary art placeholder. Precursor crafting should not include crafting a 500g (and currently unobtainable) cosmetic item and many people do not like, and have no interest in making. The precursor itself is already taking up that position.

The general direction is very interesting, and sounds like it could be fun. As an RPer, the idea of such a journey really appeals. The time taken to research, create and empower such a weapon in this way really feels like a quest of Tolkien-esque proportions, except instead of destroying a legendary artefact, you are out to create one.

My only hope is that the reality lives up to they hype.
