Exaggerate much? It’s only 10 hours over the span of 4 days to get a 450 bloom item (set of skins, or a potion).
I want to see that math.
Assuming you’re just playing normally (no tag skipping) you should be getting 10 blooms each event. You’ll get 360 from just doing each map once a day for 4 days. That’s 6 hours over 4 days. You need 90 more. Once again, assuming you aim for 10 blooms per event that’s 9 more events, 4.5 hours, over 4 days. 10.5 hours.
Be a tag skipper for 20+ stacks and it’ll be even less time. =P
It’s not really fully free to play, with the restrictions in place. I wouldn’t give up the $60 I paid THREE YEARS ago to play a f2p “trial” version of this game. Anyway, you ask what previous purchasers get in return for this change… well, an outfit for one, but more importantly – a larger playerbase!
I did one run which I thankfully got reward for and my 30 blooms. Thought about the fact that it took 30 minutes, didn’t get any other drops or experience, and it wasn’t particularly fun trying to wp around to tag mobs in time. Decided it’s probably not worth the 45 hours plus 10g to get one of those tonics if I was even able to put in that much time in only the next 4 days.
Exaggerate much? It’s only 10 hours over the span of 4 days to get a 450 bloom item (set of skins, or a potion). That’s without tag/skipping. I think it’s pretty reasonable.
Anyway, I think the people who are miffed are those that want more/all items, which I don’t think was ever supposed to be possible by design. But really, playing casually and playing the event as intended, you can easily pick up a potion or complete set of skins.
That’s what I imagined for the upgrade with existing players…
My happy place suddenly became rainy with thunder clouds.dude Anet has NEVER CHARGED $30.00 for a pack EVER !!!!!!! even in Guild Wars one the packs was $50.00 what in the kitten your on . you need to get off it or change it . cuase the day Anet comes out with a new pack for $30.00 will be the same day Anet gives us all 10,000 gems, and the GOP is put in jail for there lies
Compare the content in the GW1 “expansions” to what we’re getting now. $50 makes less sense in that regard imo
So you’ve played the expansion and know how much content we’re getting. Interesting.
C’mon now… I’m making a judgement call based on what’s already been revealed. I might be wrong, I might not be. If I’m wrong I’ll be here having spent those $50 happily =)
Considering what we’re getting with the expansion, I expected it be $40 INCLUDING an extra character slot. I’ll probably just wait til it hits $30 on sale, then snag it and also buy a character slot! =P

We can play the logic game if you really want – you just have to be a bit imaginative!
Poisons? Easy peasy – a corrosive poison eating away the turrets! Bleed? Pretend you’re causing said machinery to leak vital fluids/lubrication/etc, leading them to overheat or jam up.
Imagination++!
You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.
People like you are the reason wurm can’t be beaten.
Yes the stats do matter. They offer a 5-15% damage increase. That is a HUGE amount of damage when everything in this game is a dps race.
If you don’t think that much damage matters then please don’t show up to the wurm event or any timed event that is introduced from this point forward.
People like you is what makes me happy that ArenaNet hasn’t implemented gear inspection, and also has kept ‘raids’ open world!
why? if raids were instanced you and all your friends in blues could get together and do the content? oh wait… no you couldn’t because you rely on the people in ascended to carry you through the current open world content already…
Then they couldn’t “play how they want”. LOL
Next you guys will be telling me that non 80s shouldn’t be doing these events!!
Anyway, I really am glad ANet doesn’t cater to folks like you! I’m sure they’ll eventually throw in something like real instanced raids to make you guys happy. But ‘til then I’ll enjoy the content they keep putting out, and not have to worry about kids who boot you due to not having full ascended, or full ’zerker, or not being 80, etc etc!

That being said….allow groups and guilds to form their own private overflows where random people can’t get in and ruin entire guilds from doing content together. Add in that feature and your open raid content will be absolutely PERFECT!
This seems like a slick way of asking for what others have asked for in other threads lately – instanced raid content.
I really hope they never add in instanced raid content. I love open world raiding, I love that I can log on and jump to the zone and be a part of something fun without having to worry about being invited to a group. It’s nice to just jump in and not worry about being kicked if my gear or spec isn’t what the raid leaders want it to be.
Devs, you’re current open raid content is great as it is! No need to mess it up by making them instanced!
I think it looks nifty. They can’t please everyone, but they pleased me. Nice job, anet!
Anet, please fire whoever made the decision to put that kitten sword in in place of the rapier. Seriously.
I just went from planning on playing a LOT in an attempt to get the rapier, to having no interest whatsoever in these items.
You act as if they pulled a fast one on you by replacing the rapier with the current sword. You can’t replace something that was never offered / promised in the first place. You assumed, and you got let down, and now you’re being angsty on the forum!
Once you hit the last chest you won’t recieve anymore until you get to the next tier.
I’m going to think the wiki is the truth for now and proceed with that in mind.
And just the other day the wiki only listed up to 3000 AP. At that point did you think that was the max AP level for rewards/chests?
Proof some people don’t read up and just complain
Well, out of fairness to them, the patch notes never really stated how the items are handled. Can’t blame them for asking!
But now that I think about it, asking wouldn’t do much good either since noone even has access to them yet! Until reset it’s all rumors!
Before complaining i think you should research further than just a quick patch note page
Well, I myself haven’t complained, I’ve just assumed from the get go that we’ll get to choose from all weapons and they’ll be handled similarly to HoM skins! That said, where do you expect them to look? The best source should be the notes / GW2 sites. After that the forums, imo. Why else do they exist? =P
Now if there was a community section on the main site that pointed to other sources of possible info, I’d be with you on this one!

I’m pretty sure you’ll get to choose from all of them – it seems like only those 5 were enough to fit in the preview window, and the rest are just pushed out to the side (notice the “…” at the end of the skin choices).
Of course I may be wrong, but at this point NOONE knows for sure what will or will not be available tonight!

All this hate for mesmers receiving torment. Do any of you guys complaining even play a condition mesmer? Same question to the “I’m a mesmer and this is a bad idea” crowd. Because I do, and it’s a welcome addition. Doesn’t make up for the other issues we currently have with the role (bounce mechanic changes being the most recent), but it’s nice to see something.!
Also, here’s hoping they add it to the scepter!!
if anyone is playing a glamour spec and says its fine.. you may not notice how hard you are being carried by your zerg. obviously you are getting loot bags and patting yourself on the back but all your spec is doing is tagging people that someone else is killing for you.
As a glam mesmer, aren’t you still blinding people within a specific area multiple times? Aren’t you reflecting projectiles back onto the attackers and protecting your allies? Aren’t you tearing off boons from the attackers while removing conditions off your allies? And while you’re doing that, aren’t you still doing at least some damage on top of all that with confusion?
I’m not defending the nerfs, I hate them (esp the blinding befuddlement nerf). But to say glam mesmers are useless and are being carried and only useful for tagging people is just silly and wrong.
Well I’m still using a toughness build and havent noticed that much of a difference. Confusion is definetly nerfed but I respecced to ignore any confusion based traits before the patch, even though skills are still all glamours .
So all builds arent dead. Condition builds pretty much are though.
Where does your damage come from? Nuzzling your foes to death?
Burn, bleeds, elasticity auto attack (yay melee range!), confusion if you shatter (yes, it was nerfed… yes it still does damage.). It all adds up!
I’ll be sticking with my glam/confusion build. It’s been my preferred play style since launch, and I don’t intend to run at the first sign of trouble!
It really sucks that confusion damage is being halved, but the rest of the fun and useful WvW stuff is still there. I’ll still be able to tear off boons from enemies and conditions off of allies, all the while blinding and confusing any enemy in the target area. I’ll still be able to toss out a bubble to throw back projectiles at enemies, and once again blind and confuse them. Still got nice reflective wall. Will the confusions hurt less? Sure, but the utility is still there and honestly as long as the reflects/confusions hurt enough to net me some loot bags I don’t plan on jumping ship!
These events definitely need to be more than loot pinatas, and let’s face it… that’s exactly what most of them are atm. You’re absolutely right in that they need to be something epic, something that can fail if players aren’t on their feet, something that requires everyone to be attentive. Something, anything, just make them more epic, challenging, and fun!
I kind of wish they’d get revamped, kind of like how Temple of Grenth was changed not too long ago. Though maybe in more clever ways instead of tons of red circles coming up everywhere! =P But still, it was different and refreshing to see groups failing that over and over not too long ago, and it required people to at least think a bit more than most other events!
^ a lot of us rolled every class, so those census things don’t mean much to me.
Some bot might see my engineer in LA and think that I actually play that class, when in reality I’m just crafting something for my thief to wear, alt farming super adventure box, or checking to see if Jormag is up.
Maybe you’re right, but there’s not much to go on other than sites like that or “what you see”. Based on that, I’d be inclined to believe whatever I see on the sites over someones opinion based on what they see in LA or events. But if I had to base least represented on what classes I see most/least during events and in chilling in LA, I’d say Mesmers and Engineers.
I do the events because they’re fun. I enjoy doing them. I’ll do them more than once on my only 80 if I’m in an area that has one about to start. You DO realize some people actually do things for fun not just for the reward, right? I enjoy the wait when their window is open. Chat is lively, there are dance parties / costume brawls, just tons of people chilling with some very fun or funny conversations. All of that is a blast, imo! The social aspect of these events is what really draws me in. That guaranteed rare/exotic?… It’s just an added bonus. I don’t get any of that in a COF run.
I’m fairly certain that they won’t do anything to anyone whose done it. IMO it’s not abuse or exploiting. You could do all of these events on your alts on your home server and get all your chests, or save time by server jumping. The end result is the same. They haven’t gained any advantage over anyone else, they won’t have any more chests than me (assuming same # of alts). All they did was save time.
Do I agree with it, and would I do it? Nope. Still doesn’t make what they’re doing any sort of abuse or deserving of a ban in my eyes.
edit to add a bit more!
On your comparison to the Ori node bans early on.
Ori nodes were meant to be mined once per character(or is it account… I only have 1 80 lol) per spawn. It’s clear how bypassing that can be considered an exploit. But these chests were meant to be limited to 1 chest per character. They’re not bypassing this. They’re still restricted to it so I just don’t see how it’s an exploit.

I never guested before to loot boss chests myself, and if that’s what was truly causing the problem then I wish they’d fix that, not disallow me to do bosses done on my home server with multiple characters
No one can say for sure that guesting was the problem. It just didn’t help the issue, and was the easiest thing to blame for most people. And thus guesting hate was born.
Nice change. It was one of the possible solutions I’ve suggested multiple times and am not surprised to see that it’s the route they’re taking to help with overflows.
To you guys saying guests should be denied chests, I’ve yet to see any evidence that guests are to blame. They might not help the problem, but certainly aren’t the cause. I’m so glad ArenaNet didn’t listen to such terrible suggestions and punish guests/guesting. I’ll continue to play with my friends and be rewarded for it =)
Also, I wonder how this will work on non event chests, like Rotbeard for example.
Thanks for the heads up on this, glad to see things are improving! (slowly but surely =) ) Any specifics on what was changed?
Hey everybody,
We’ve made some changes that should improve overflow issues on most maps. The team is also investigating larger solutions to help in the long term.
Just remove guesting all together or make a tag for dragons chests to be 1/day 1/character/dragon cross server… problem solved
Problem solved.. by punishing people for wanting to play with friends on other servers? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, those are terrible suggestions. I’m glad this is something they’re working on without resorting to these kind of solutions.
No chests for guests!
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, this is one of the worst ideas presented, next to the whole solution of " just disable guesting".
Guesting isn’t the real problem here, it isn’t making that big of a dent to be causing all of these overflows. But for a minute let’s assume that it’s not helping the situation either. So then let’s come up with a solution that doesn’t punish people for playing the game as intended, doesn’t punish them for wanting to play with friends.
Make chests once per day per account, make events completely random (make dragon timer sites obsolete), make guests invite only (not too excited about this but still an okay suggestion). Any of these are far better than removing chests for guests, or disabling guesting as a whole.
I love the people who just have it in their head the guesting has nothing to do with it. IT DOES…PERIOD! Might not be THE reason. But it has never been a problem before guesting and the new patches. The new loot from chests or whatever, coupled with guesting is the reason.
Get over yourselves and think for a change
How about getting over yourselves, and stop blindly blaming something you can’t even prove is the cause. How about waiting for an official response from ANet?
btw this was a problem before guesting… overflows and lag at launch? yes. overflows and lag at the Karka event? yes.
=)
It’s the guesting that’s causing the overflow. They’re abusing an exploit that allows them to break the one-chest-per-day limit on World Events. If they hadn’t bothered implementing that ridiculous policy in the first place, it wouldn’t be happening.
Pretty sure you can only get one chest per day per character. There was a bug that let people work around that for certain events, but it was fixed days ago.
It’s reported and assumed that guests are creating the lag, I still don’t buy it. Seems like blaming guests is the easy thing to do, not the fact that there’s just a lot of people in general out doing these events. As for me, I’ll wait until ArenaNet actually states that guesting is to blame, and shall keep defending it until so!
Remove chests for guesting players and force them back to their home server. Just get rid of them. It’s screwing my experience on my home server, and they are screwing their home server fellow players by not being there to make these events more populated.
I really don’t think guests are the cause of these issues. Sure, maybe it’s not helping, but getting rid of it won’t suddenly remove all of the lag and overflows. ArenaNet improved chest loot, so everyone is out doing these events now. I haven’t hit an overflow on TC LA since the patch hit… because no ones there, everyone is out and about, at these events! This is the root cause of the issues.
I really hope ArenaNet never listens to some of the more stupid ideas I’ve seen on these forums lately, specifically removing guesting or removing rewards/chests for guests. Why punish people for playing the game as intended, or joining up with friends? I’d rather them make chests once per account, or even revert the loot changes before hurting guests/guesting.
^
make boss event start on randomized timers.
I love this suggestion. Maybe not completely random, but def. not as predictable as they are now. This would prevent the “event x is going to start at server y, let’s all join and wait there”.
I’ve seen this suggestion of making chests lootable only from your home server thrown out a few times now. This is really a stupid idea. Have friends in another server who want to do the events with you, or you want to go to theirs? Forget about it!
Assuming guesting is even the real issue here, far better solutions have been offered. Have locals get zone priority and throw guests into the overflows, making guesting invite only, revert chest loot to their previous state, make chests lootable once per account. These all work, imo, and don’t hurt one of the key features of this game (guesting).
It gives a noticeable advantage, on paper. When I start getting left out of content because I’m only in exotics (excluding high level Fractals), or when I start getting torn up in WvWvW solely because my opponent was in ascended, then I’ll acknowledge that it’s an advantage. Until then, I’ll happily keep believing it’s completely optional and keep enjoying this game =)
I hear you Joey, here’s another quote from that post I linked: “We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.”
Don’t get me wrong here, I love this game to death! You can tell that a lot of love was put into it. But seeing such hypocritically long mandatory gear grinds from a company that says “we don’t make grindy games” really is a downer.
It’s not a mandatory gear grind. It doesn’t give you any noticeable advantage over those who don’t have ascended. It’s not going to sway the outcome in WvW. I have yet to see any real reason to chase after this gear other than WANTING to have the best stats, not NEEDING them. It’s quite optional and exists solely for those who want to chase this kind of gear progression.
I myself don’t farm, but it’s always cool to see players helping out other players with tips like these. So here’s a nice post bump, and thanks for the tip that I’m sure other will appreciate (though not all from some of the replies I’ve seen here, lol)!
I’m not sure I see what the problem is.
They’ve previously announced a patch will hit today (12 / 14 Pacific time/date). I assume they didn’t announce a specific time to prevent complaints, like the ones I’m seeing (they’re late! they can’t stick to a schedule! etc). They still have, what, 12 hours? to get the patch out and still be “on schedule”.
@Oscicat, lol gotcha! It’s awesome that you put the time and effort into a guide like this. As I said before, it’s really cool to see others using a build like this, and this guide is really great to get anyone interested up and running with it!
I’ve been rolling with this build since the beta weekends, it’s just so much fun that I jumped straight back onto it at launch (I use it for everything, pve, spvp, wvw!). I tried spreading the word about it it back in the BWE’s a bit, but it never seemed to catch on, so it’s really awesome to see others using my build with great success as well!
Anyway, the main reason I stopped by was for a silly question, what does this build have to do with Cats (since you seem to call it Shatter Cat)? =P
Main a Mesmer. Can safely say that Phantasm build certainly isn’t dead.
A few seconds to generate a new iWarlock or a few more seconds on Storm doesn’t wreck the staff. Staff is still one of the most potent weapons. This does encourage us to swap weapons between recharges, which is what you should be doing anyway unless you want to stack more conditions in which you would be auto-attacking more regardless, and you can still spam #2 to keep stacking damaging conditions.
Happy to see the reduced recharge on Chaos Storm.
iSwordsman and iDuelist had VERY short recharge timers as well. It’s not like you don’t have other skills or other weapon sets to use during recharges, it just encourages less “Phantasm + AA lulz gg” play.
Why anyone is expecting our Phantasms to tank is beyond me. Clones can tank. We have multiple ways to dodge, kite and become invulnerable. Phantasms bring the damage. If you’ve been playing Mesmer for more than a couple days you’ve adjusted to this fact, and slightly higher recharge timers don’t hurt us that much frankly.
Conclusion: Sky is not falling, just keeping us “honest” with regards to Phantasm-only spam. Calm down.
This.
As I’ve said before, I played through a couple hours of DE’s and a few dungeons last night, with a phantasm build, and nothing felt “broken”. I played as I do every other night. Like I’ve said before, the changes were noticeable but not to the point where Mesmers are “unplayable” and “destroyed” as so many people are claiming.
And the funniest thing about all this outrage and crying is just how many of the posts were made by people who didn’t even play with the changes. I’m sure some did, but this thread blew up before my patch had even downloaded, there’s absolutely no way most of the people who initially posted here had a chance to actually test anything out.
Chaos Storm was too imba i guess…. but 5 seconds extra cooldown is a bit steep, rather have them remove the boons on it and buff the conditions a little so we can keep our 30s.
The Phantasm nerf is rediculous, i could agree with the warden nerf a few weeks ago, but these Phantasm are not that great. Thank god i roll cond/wrack build.
I’ve been running many DE’s and a dungeon so far tonight, and the changes haven’t felt steep or ridiculous to me at all. Noticeable for sure, but they haven’t sent me logging off in frustration or made me feel that my play style has changed too much at all with my phantasm build.
I’m not saying the changes were warranted, it sucks having pve changes being forced due to pvp. I’m just saying, to me, it doesn’t “feel” so bad that it deserves such an outcry over. Of course mileage may vary!
I noticed this thread blow up minutes after the patch went up. Beyond just reading the patch notes, did anyone actually PvE with it yet? I did. Did I notice the increased recharge? Yes. Did it seem to make a noticeable impact? No. (In terms of PvE only, which is what most people seem to be upset with from what I see). Not to me at least. I went about playing my phantasm build like any other night, and for the most part felt fine (IMO). I just find it funny how SO MANY people came here to cry before even trying it out. Give it a shot, play for a while, then come back with some constructive thoughts.
