So “full” won’t change depending on the time of day, anymore?

New "Free" Account Hidden Limitations

I have been a GW2 account holder since Open Beta. With the new option for a free account without buying the base game, I decided to get my son an account to play with me. As my world server was “full” when he loaded up, he chose another one to fiddle around with the character selection screen until he could get into my world. Now, however, he has the warning message that unless he upgrades to a full account, he cannot “transfer” servers. He has no character yet so I don’t understand the limitation. There was also never a message to warn him that this choice was final so I personally find this limitation quite unfair as he would not have chosen the server in the first place knowing it was final. As far as previous gameplay (purchased accounts), you were always able to change servers if you had no characters. Nowhere in the “limitations of a free account” does it list server selection as a one-shot deal. I understand that with group play, there is no difference in which world you choose except for WvW so this shouldn’t be a problem, but my son enjoys WvW and would like to be able to play with me and my characters. Is there a way to reset this? Or delete my son’s account and make a new one?

Thank you,

My Wishlist:

- Like many others, I’d like some type of system (PvE skin locker, wardrobe tabs, something) implemented that allows me to change to more than one outfit without sacrificing my stats and/or running another complete set of gear. I don’t mind if more options are required by gem unlocks, I’d gladly pay.

- Mini Pet slot on UI; ideally with some type of on/off ability like “show helm”.

- Options via UI to have alternate weapon set-ups/trait builds that can switch out of combat only (i.e. as an elementalist, I understand that I can only have one weapon/no swaps in combat, but out of combat, I have to open my bag, swap out my weapons, and if switching from two to 1-handed, my off-hand item goes to default first available spot in bag, which I then have to find and put aside so that I don’t somehow lose it, etc. If I could store that weapon as “secondary” (or in other class cases, 3rd/4th/etc), then it’s not taking up a bag slot and I can swap to it (with perhaps a long CD and/or gem unlock), ideally this would also automatically switch traits (even if only swapping the selective traits and not requiring a complete build change, though that would be even nicer).

- Personal story completion should reward characters the ability to buy cosmetic armour from all 3 orders; after all – we’re “Pact” and I’m the Commander – if I can lead them, why can’t I dress like them? Besides, choosing an order and later learning that the “look” you like best is a different order really sucks, and the story meshes so well with the ability to have all 3.

- Crafting panels to have “main item type” with selectable specifics (i.e. for a tailor, show “masquerade coat” and when selected, then the option to pick “Carrion”, “Berserker”, etc.). The current list system is so long and clunky. It would also be really nice to have (or at least the option to turn on/off) the item level in brackets in the list, for easy searching.

- Trading Post to have search features by armour type (heavy, medium, light) – still surprised this isn’t already in-game.

- Class specific armour styles. I want to see beautiful armours available only to each specific class, have them each stand out. Ideally I’d like this to be something along the lines of a long, challenging, multi-zone “epic” quest, but since this is a horizontal progression discussion thread, I’d even be happy with gemstore options and just graphically different.

- “In-between” armour graphics with more variation. Light armour shouldn’t always be a skimpy bikini outfit or something from the 1800s – sure, show some skin, but have some nice looking stuff in the middle for the ladies. Medium armour shouldn’t all be 98% trench coats and the sort. Simple isn’t necessarily bad, I’ve seen so many good looking NPCs that I’d love to see options for players in-game.

- Long hair fix. I love long hair on my toons, but I can’t stand entering combat stance and finding that it all disappears into her back 50% of the time I’m playing. If I have the option to have long hair, make the graphics work so that it’s realistic (or at least it lays on my skin, not disappears through it).

We’re a small guild, mostly friends from previous MMOs and a few new friends from GW2, looking to expand. We are a laid-back, no-drama, casual guild with one simple rule: be nice. We have about 20 active members, and a few less-active ones, mostly EST to PST timezones, though playtimes range throughout all hours of the day. We don’t have an age requirement, but we do expect maturity. We’re mostly PvE and some WvW, but occasionally dabble in PvP. Is Sword 'Root' Ever Getting Fixed?

They’ve actually said the sword is working fine, and there’s nothing wrong with it, so I highly doubt anything is going to be done which is good.

This is part of my original question – has someone officially said that it’s working as intended? I haven’t seen anything that says it is (or isn’t). If it is, then so be it (whether I like it or not), but I’ve never seen anything to say that the ‘rooting effect’ (even if that’s not the primary purpose) is intentional. If you have a link to where it was said, that would be great.

Is Sword 'Root' Ever Getting Fixed?

I love my sword. It’s SO fun to use, but the semi-root in place is so incredibly annoying, I don’t use it near as much as I’d like. I’ve tried the ‘disable auto-attack’ and spamming the 1 button (just plain annoying), I’ve tried “timing” my dodges between the 3 parts of the skill animation (difficult and annoying), and the easiest (saddest) solution is to just use a different weapon. I watch the forums way more than I post, and the “bug” has been listed for months, and mentioned various times by many people. It’s included near the top of the “Ranger Bugs” thread too:

- Sword’s Slash/Kick/Pounce chain will cause the player to be semi-rooted in place resulting in inability to dodge or readily reposition yourself (more info https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Needs-fix-sword-auto-attack and https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Ranger-Bug-List/page/2#post156135)

But I have yet to see any comment anywhere (from a Dev perspective) as to whether this even actually counts as a bug, let alone any hope of it changing in the future. Is this something that’s even being looked at, at all? Or is this actually how the sword is intended to play? To my knowledge (granted, my knowledge of other profession is limited), no other profession has a ‘root’ component of their primary (1 button) attack skill, making dodges difficult, let alone impossible at times. From my understanding, one of the main concepts of the entire combat system in this game is to be mobile, and this is definitely a huge problem where mobility is concerned. I love the animation of the 3-part attack (it looks so cool), but the chain needs to be breakable for dodging – is this ever going to happen?

Please note, I’m not asking for a date, or even a generalization of “soon”, but just to know that the issue IS an issue and is being looked into would give my ranger a very Merry Christmas indeed.

Thank you,
Nadjiera

sword/torch pve solo build?

I know you say no glass cannon builds, but have a read through this thread and take from it what you will. I personally love the sword (oh, how I dream of the day if/when they finally fix the sword-lock-in-place mechanism). I followed a similar build to this and levelled all the way to 80 solo, and didn’t have much problems with a squishier build (granted, I think I used SB more often than the sword, but still got my melee in there too).

12 Days of Christmas

I would love to see some BLTC sales/discounts for “The 12 Days of Christmas”. I know you have “Wintersday”, an event I’m really looking forward to, but I was thinking that since the Black Lion Trading Company did “Black Friday”, it might be nice/neat to see some special deals surrounding Christmas as well for sales (and don’t we ALL win when we spend money and you give us things we want?).

My suggestions of items to include for the 12 Days of Christmas that I know my friends and I were very disappointed not to see during Black Friday:
- Bank Storage
- Bag Space
- Extra Character Slots
- Cosmetic Outfits (feel free to add new ones; and speaking of which, breaking down the components of some of your current outfits would be fabulous, i.e. I’d love the Kryta shirt, but I hate the rest of the set, and refuse to spend gems on the whole set, but I’d buy the shirt separately – of course, if the whole set was discounted, I might do that too).

And while they weren’t available then (therefore not discounted), they are now, so I’d like to also add the Make-Over Kits (full and hair-only) to the wishlist. I don’t presume to know how well you fared with your Black Friday sale, but out of all my friends, I know not a single one who spent one real dollar (nor any gems they had stored) on anything you had offered. I can guarantee you, if you had these items for sale, I would not be able to make the same claim (myself included, obviously).

Merry Christmas!

New to PvP - Looking for a Good Guide

So, I’ve made it to 80, almost done world exploration, I’m fiddling around in WvW, finding jump puzzles, and other such things to occupy my time in-game. One area that I haven’t explored at all (except the “tutorial” area) is PvP – though I think I’d like to give it a try. I’ve been trying to find something online for a Noob Guide to PvP, but my searches usually come up explaining things in PvP terminology that I just don’t follow. I don’t come from PvP in other games, so some of the stuff being said is just making me more confused than I was to begin with. I find the tutorial area not very helpful, and to be honest, I did it like 2 months ago just to see the area and try out this PvP locker thing, and so I don’t really remember the points they tried to ‘teach’ me anyways. Does anyone have a good suggestion on some reading material for those of us who have NO idea about PvP? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Voice Chat - Headset Recommendation

Awesome – thanks for all the recommendations everyone, I’ll check them out. Also, thanks for the suggestion Donari – before I would have said it had to be headset, but usually playing nowadays (90% of the time, at least), I’m alone in the basement when grouping anyways, perhaps I’ll look into getting a mic and using regular speakers when surrounding sounds aren’t an issue.

Voice Chat - Headset Recommendation

First of all, sorry if I’m posting in the wrong forum, but this looked like the best place to ask. I’ve tried looking up reviews online, but I figured other people using headsets for the same purpose I want would probably be the best source of information for finding what I’m looking for. So for those of you using voice programs to chat with groups in-game, what headset do you use and would recommend to others? I wear glasses and I’m not sure if that’s the cause, or just my current (and former) headsets were poor quality, but I find I am constantly experiencing discomfort and mild (though still annoying) pain in my ears after about 30 minutes of using a headset. I’m not sure if it’s the tightness, the sound quality, or the pressure on my glasses – but it drives me nuts and makes me less apt to want to use voice chat when given the option.

In terms of what I’m looking for, I don’t use voice chat often enough to warrant spending over $50 or $60 (hopefully that’s a reasonable amount for a good headset). I would ideally like something that’s just one ear and mic (vs two ears) as I like to be able to hear what’s going on in my house outside of the game, though I’m not averse to a good set with two covered ears either. Does anyone have any good recommendations?

Thank you!

Disconnecting in Overflow Zones

in Suggestions

Today I was lucky enough to be online to participate in the one-time event in Lost Shores. Our overflow zone completed the first portion/event, then continued on to the portion where we had to lead the Ancient Karka back to its nest. I’m not sure how fast other overflow zones were completing this, but I’d played for easily over an hour and we were mostly there when I died (one of many deaths). This time however, I was in a bad spot and no one was coming to rez me after 5 minutes. Looking at the map, I wasn’t too far from the WP, so I opted to map and run. Well, with the lag and all, my game client got hung up on the zoning screen. I waited about 8 minutes before giving up and restarting. Of course, logging back in put me in a different overflow zone. Logging in and out wouldn’t get me back to my overflow and none of the ones I was in had the event going (done or never started, I don’t know). Obviously, this was very frustrating as I missed out on finishing the event plus its reward. I would like to recommend some type of disconnect system whereby within a reasonable amount of time (and of course pending it still exists), players are returned to their overflow zones. I also think that dynamic events being so long would be better off if broken up into several smaller parts rather than one over-long one.

Thank you.
