Same here on Ring of Fire – many Cursed Shore events are bugged, starting with the Penitent Camp which cannot be build with tons of people farming there since days.

It says: “Lionsguard is preparing to attack”
This is my last Boss Achievment, it seems that on every european server I have friends on this event is bugges since weeks (or even longer).

LQ – Not really a question, but I hope you all know about D/D Eles and the amount of skill/timing/coordinating it takes to become a good D/D ele, not only that but people enjoy the “Challenge” that D/D ele gives to people and helps people understand the class alot more. (Basically, don’t nerf it, but instead fix the rest of our class & other classes, over-nerfing classes can cause problems for everything in my opinion, learned from a previous game…where no mages were ever played due to an overnerf )

Here – it took me 370h to be really good D/D ele taking up Arah, FotM, CoF, Orr etc with D/D ele. AoE dps and CC is the ONLY thing I have that helps me survive. I kill stuff faster then I do and it took me ages to find a build that works as support AND cc and DPS that is viable in high-end PvE.
Please don’t take this away from me. Fix other classes, ballance things but overnurfing stuff because there is a bunch of people who have no idea how to play a warrior and there are classes that are not viable due to the mechanics and skills being not good enough is a BAD IDEA.
Many MMOs did it like that and good people left because of that.

If PvP and PvE / WvW are not working together separate the skills like in GW1.

I like quite many of the ideas you have tbh.
The only thing I was kind of “surprised” was the nurf of AoE. Well I am not THAT surprised, a warrior with a greatsword is insane and for some an ele might be insane too. However some of the classes (here I am talking about Engie and Ele) are based mostly on doing enough AoE dps and CC, because if they cannot do it, they will die very fast.
Yes I am an elementarist player and yes for many the class is the most powerful (in hands of a really good player they might be but I did not see many out there tbh, just a lot of people playing their classes bad).
How exactly are you planing to nurv the AoE dps? Will classes like an ele still be able to solo? Will be killing more mobs than 1 monster at a time be able? As this class has the lowest overall HP and low armor and is based on AoE CC and AoE dps, will we be able to survive PvE after the update?
Please enlighten me how exactly this will work and what are you going to do?

Aehm it is a stupid thing to mash F1-F4 like a madman only because it gives you boons… Playing like that is suicide.

Well the way it is like it is right now, the ele player has to decide, “will I go for an element or two” – earth in your example and fire – "or will I also invest in Arcana which allows me to work with all elements equally, use the potential of all of them however not at full strength because I don’t have enough points for it?

Your idea would make eles too powerful. I like it because I play one but I don’t see how to implement it w/o breaking the balance and mechanic of the game. If this would stack with arcana then I’d lmao at it totally…

lol, ele definitely is alright. I just did not know about the plan to implement trait and build and weapon swaps with a button like it was in GW1 (thanks god for that), good to hear that ANet did their homework.

Ele is not about might stacks but they help with particular builds… Using SSo-Battle is then not required but helpful. In other cases you can go with Energy or Force or Accuracy or stack 25 times Power / CD or whatever you want to.
It just depends on what you want to play – what suits your style.
I can’t really answer your last question, as it provides additional boon duration. I assume that certain builds would still profit from the traits up to arcana 30…

I am using 0-25-0-15-30 for D/D solo play in WvW and PvE (unless in WvW defense or dungeons where Staff or S/D or S/F is required).
Yes really burst builds are 30-30-0-0-10 with air and arcane that hit really, really hard. The survivability however is low and such builds are good when:
a) there are 5 of you doing guerilla tactics (tried it out already with another 4 eles omg so much fun)
b) you like killing people and don’t care about repairing your armor
c) you are a suicide bomber maniac

Mostly b) and c) are interconnected, with a) being the ultimate upgrade to it

I prefer builds that rely on vigor and water and the ability to do good dps while being able to support whoever I meet out there in PvE and WvW. Till now that works for me as I am able to kill nearly anyone at 1:1 (or run away from them) and when in a group, the group does not get killed (that fast – still depending on the skills and brains of those kitten sapiens sapiens / neandertalis you play with)

With my S/D setup I went all berserker, sup divinity, ruby, sup sigils of battle and strength. 0-25-0-15-30
Was / is working good for me (playing D/D atm, is more fun) – 10-15 might during a usual fight is normal when you start with fire, just beware of mobs running out of tooth. arcane wave and ring of flames are nice combo etc – just as misty said… if you know where to jump and have evasive arcana, then the might stack can be 20+ for the duration of the fight (at least with battle and strength sigils).

I am using arcana 30 with elemental attunement, renewing stamina and evasive arcana. Arcana that high is good with some specific builds. What really makes me angry is the fact, that the attunement bonuses linger for 5 kitten seconds only. Instead of that I get a 7.5% chance at a crit (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Arcane_Precision) (which is 51% the way I play it with D/D) so the chance is round 3.8% that I get:
Fire: burning for 1 second
Water: vulnerability for 9 seconds
Air: weakness for 3 seconds
Earth: bleeding for 5 seconds
which is a LMFAO for a 25-minor!!! ANEt what the heck were you thinking here? Give me an additional 5 or 10s of attunement bonus and I am a happy customer… but 3.8% chance that anything happens is laughable :/

This is what I am running in PvE / WvW – here with some little changes and with staff for defense, the healing skill can be adjusted as well as other skills for specific bosses, dungeons etc.
Basically straight forward – 0/25/0/15/30 with berserker stuff, might stacking sigils etc…
it works great if you know what to do and where the limitations are. At least I can support pretty well (that is what eles do) and do decent dps, no matter the weapon I use.
You just have to jump around like master joda (too bad I am no asura), take care of your surroundings and don’t rush any red dot you see on the screen… this is no bunker, this is dps/sup

Thank you sire that you see it this way also. Every other class can go offense and defense by swapping weapons, can go range and melee with this mechanics (but an engie, however if you want to, they have medium armor and flamethrower is kind of “melee”).
I don’t mind being melee as an ele when I go for D/D. What I find annoying is the fact that being D/D is great and then a boss comes or a specific mob and I have to run away, wait and hide (sometimes nearly for 1 kitten minute) till I kind of “loose aggro” and am able to swap for Staff and party can go on (however the mob mostly is dead by then).
I am missing a possibility of “non-being-in-a-fight” weapon swap and the same with trait swap with 1 button.
Why can’t be there (for every class) a button where you can off fight swap weapon sets and at least 1 additional “off-fight” swap for traits?
This is not THAT difficult to implement and would make the life of many in PvE and WvW much easier.
You could leave this mechanic off PvP as it might break some things there but as an ele this would be awesome.
Imagine getting into a tower in WvW just before the attackers get to it, then get out of fight, press 1 button, get a staff, press another one and get the traits which you optimized for staff defense – here you won’t be able to swap any trait points! if you are 30/30/0/0/10 you’d still probably screw on healing however you could optimize the major traits…

Would that be a solution?
I doubt anyone in ANet reads this :P but hope dies the last…

I was playing S/D long time, staff in some situations, D/D now.
D/D is more difficult than S/D however gives you much more options to heal, better CC, higher dps…
The only draw is that you sit as a duck on a plate next to your opponent :P but with vigor permanently running and all that neat CC you have that is never an issue.
If a lvl 80 champion downs you with a ranged aoe atack, there is not really a difference if you go S/D or D/D or Staff :P
I recommend for every ele to learn how to play D/D as well az S/D and S/F and Staff. We have only 4 real options (say 3, Focus is nice but has not many synergies after all) so this should be a must know for everyone who want to play an ele. Different weapon sets are good for different situations (still waiting for ANet to give us the possibility to swap weapons)

For me the elementalist as it is right now is not a difficult class because it has 20 weapon skills to chose from, or because it lacks hp and armor and dps of other classes. It is the most difficult class because it lacks the LOVE of the programmers from ANet.
They watch your video and think – hey eles rule so why give them a little boost? Maybe nurf them again
And in hands of a really skilled person they rule, however there is only a handful of them I met out there.

The last problem with eles – they tend to get reduced to PvP as there is a really big bunch of people who play PvP only. So till D/D bunker works we won’t see any improvement, even if that would be necessary in certain PvE parts & m8be in WvW.

Improvements could be (here CHOOSE ONE ONLY with 3rd one being insanely great and no, we will NEVER get it)

1) Giving the ele a slight HP increase would help make him a better survivability overall being better supporter and solo.
2) Giving an ele a slight dps increase would give him the ability to solo in PvE more efficiently (m8be with the same efficiency as a warrior) because we would actually become what eles are supposed to be – glass cannon (lowest hp, lowest armor, highest dps), while being a bunker would actually allow you to kill an enemy before you sleep in.
3) Giving an ele a second weapon to choose from would allow us to go for defense or offense (the thing we are missing at this very moment the most) depending on the situation like ANY OTHER CLASS can do.

Leaving the ele the way we are… well I don’t care much tbh, I can survive nearly anything (but the one hit AoE downers from certain creatures in certain areas). But it would for sure help many people to get used to this awesome class!
I don’t think this will ever happen though… unless the community of eles will raise and claim what should be ours – with lowest HP comes the highest DPS ;D

I really like your videos and skills in WvW. Impressive!
I started playing an ele in GW1 and in GW2 I did on the release and as I don’t have that much time, I play it since then as my main.
As probably everyone I tend to use staff at the beginning (which was too slow), then changed to S/F (which was too defensive), finally landing on S/D which is a great option imo. What is a downside of S/D is the fact that the spells use too long (eg dragon tooth) to get casted, so most of the mobs (even in PvE), if they change direction and make few steps just don’t get hit by it. After countless experiences like that in situations where a few thousand dps would have made a tremendous effect on the whole battle and after I nearly bit my keyboard into two while watching a tooth, phoenix and a shatterstone hit only air because the kitten PvE mob moved 2 steps to hit another group member, I changed to D/D = best decision I could have made.
I use to play PvE and sometimes WvW (here I use basically the same skills as you do, however my traits are a bit different). I don’t like PvP, as I don’t like playing bunker or taking down the bloody trebuchet all time :P
Playing high crit/support ele with D/D in PvP is lots of fun and I tend to kill the enemy pretty fast but am not that useful on capping and holding so not really that much useful to the team.
This is the PvE setting I use:

Items are berserker/ruby (alltogether), runes – sup divinity, sigils – sup battle / sup strength.
Pretty straight forward. Survivability depends on Water being 15 with the traits to heal, soothing winds and signet (healing 320hp / spell) and permanent vigor (jumping around like Master Joda all time) with all the other boni I get by such “high” crit and the traits and placing vulnerability on every enemy I target.
For WvW I swap few traits (zephyrs boon, some of the arcana etc.) and use D/D for attack / group guerilla and staff for defense (towers etc.).

As said previously by many: ele is difficult (probably the most difficult class to play efficiently), squishy and hard to master. However an ele is a great support class (Imo the best in GW2) and most rewarding in many terms. I am happy to be an elementalist player and will not change to any other class for a main.

My feeling is however that ele being the first announced class, the ele did not receive so much love from ANet as all the other classes did. I suppose ele skills and traits got created as the first ones because they just copied the gw1 ele in many ways, as the concept was pretty clear (existing in GW1 already – we were discussing it over and over again in forums years before GW2 arrived) and all the other classes got adapted to it. (maybe I am wrong here but that is what my 7th sense is telling me)

There are some problems with the ele I see, and in a way good player like yourself are prevent the elementalist to get the balancing it needs imho to make the class a bit more “mainstream” (bad word but I am missing a better one).
Elementalist is the only class that has to really trade damage for survivability. If chosen damage the way we manage to hit hard the way a warrior or a thief does (and that is near impossible as far as I can tell, the way I compared my ele with my friends lvl 80 thief and warrior in terms of dmg) we lack survivability. Compared to all other classes the elementalist has the lowest hp and armor, this is an ele thread so we all understand it very good I suppose.
If we go for survivability, which is very well possible – bunker D/D eles who can just like that survive against several enemies in sPvP forever – we lack damage. You won’t be able to kill anyone with some skills, brains and good setting with a bunker ele, but you can cap and hold the bloody point till your teams can kill’em’off
Speaking of survivability: a skilled necro with a survivalist setting would lhao at half an army and deal more dmg in the end…

This brings me to your build. You have tremendous survivability with 19k hp and the traits you chose, however imho you lack the dps. I know, you bring down some people but compared to some other classes I’ve seen (when playing with my guildies) you can see, that the trade off hp for dps is the worst one with the ele class in general. Don’t forget here, you are a great player and I suppose that many would just die off ages before you do.
The setup is awesome though, I did a test, thanks for the ideas I got from some parts of it ;D

I run every dungeon except SE because I don’t like any gear you can get from it. I brought Arah because it’s regarded as the hardest dungeon.

D/F build offers a lot of defense, you just lack any kind of synergy between dagger and focus.

About scepter, it revolves around easy-to-dodge, hard hitting spells. You just need cc to hold mobs/people in place. They could be a bit faster though.

That is a bit of a problem with S/D build. The CC is there but does not last that long since the spells just are too slowly animated… give me a meteor from GW1 which was cast → boom, not like ow with: cast → hangs in the air (crystallizes on the floor) so that everyone sees it for seconds → hits mostly empty space because even the most stupid mob just walks away till it resolves.
Why are the ANet people not correcting such mismatches? there is no “spell needs 2 seconds to cast or resolve” so the effect should be (near) instant.

You did not answer my question how many good D/D wielder do you encounter in high level areas and Dungeons?

I play arah constantly on d/d ele (knight’s armour plus zerker’s weapons and trinkets). And I don’t die often. I only swap to scepter/focus for lupi because focus offers ridiculous defense skills and dagger/focus is like the worst combination of weapons.

They didn’t nerf Armour of Earth, they updated tooltip to match the correct duration of boons.

Well try another dungeon. I am not talking about people who run a dungeon 30 times to get their shiny gear. I know some of the dungeons too good so I probably could survive there with D/F build (never tried that one, seems wrong to even think of it).
The point is that running one instance 30x is nice, and yes, probably I never saw eles run certain dungeons with D/D because I don´t have the time to sit in front of my pc all day and night, but even if YOU play Arah constantly with D/D, how many other eles do you see playing with D/D in Orr? or Fractals? or any other Dungeon?
I said that it is possible if you know how to play, also I said that I never saw anyone play it in a dungeon efficiently. It does not mean that there are not people out there who can´t manage… but they are rare and have very good gear mostly.
Sigh… adressing the problem of the shatterstone and dragon toot hanging for seconds in the air, even if I long cast them is basically what bothers me.
And the fact that I see more eles with staff and scepter out there and the only thing that got buffed since was D/D. Ok, well no, Stone Splinters got increased range.
I play S/D and when I die it´s because I was too stupid or too overconfident. Usually that never happens :P

Not bad. For my setup only Bolt to the Heart and Stone Splinters are really useful. The improvement of the water skills is nice if you are playing fractals a lot and helping flipper out

As I play S/D the most, I am missing some improvements with the Scepter. It is not bad but it is very difficult to play efficiently as the skills that would really hit (Dragon Tooth) are just way to slow… Even for PvE dragon tooth is too slow. The same goes for Shatterstone. Why the heck does the animation take 2s? It should be cast instantly like lightning strike does, and I really don´t care for a nice animation if the skill is useless because of it. The timing both of them is a pain…

Another question (and I know I am way too late for this) – why did ANet nurfed Armor of earth? Any reason to take precious 2,3/4s away? And don´t say it´s because of PvP :/ In that case they should seriously consider splitting the pvp and pve skills because nurfing one of the little of defense an ele has seems wrong to me.

As for D/D well try to play D/D in Fractals lvl 10+ or Orr for most of the part… it is possible but mostly you will die fast. For me GW2 is more a PvE game as I have a very demanding job and not much time to really get into PvP efficiently. So while everyone is hyping about Eles being nurfed or not in PvP with the ultimate D/D , I don´t care.
The point is that while PvP part seems to get updates that balance the game, nurfs like taking 2.75s from Armor of earth really are stupid and don´t really have much to do with PvE reality.
And in some cases (skills) staff, scepter and focus really should get an update. You know, not that many are playing D/D in PvE high lvl areas and I´ve never seen anyone playing it in any Dungeon I´ve ever been efficiently.

If ANET was confident in their No holy trinity they would have made it so that ppl would play it. It looks and sounds to me even ANET has zero belive in their own creation.

Well it was playable before and it was fun… I never grind that dungeon, and it was bad that some people did this excessively, but a counter like – you can so this dungeon ONLY 3 TIMES each 24h AND / OR every rung gives you 1/3 less reward… that would be and very simple and easy solution here!
They forget that we are the customer, and in the end if they loose us due to their lack of competence or emotional instability and therefore updating the game this way (without any thinking), probably noone will stay for long…

For me honestly the dungeon designer did his job very bad and should have designed the dungeon in a better and more challenging way! Or bring an update to that particular dungeon… We are paying for his incompetence! Well thank you ANet! Is this going to be the rule? You screw up something, some clever people will find a way to do things efficiently and you don´t ask the community and give US – your CUSTOMERSkitten– different possibilities for a solution via a “test-server” or a “council of players that are chosen like in EVE”, no! you will make the game less fun, because we oversmarted you, the way intelligent people just do and tell us – you pay for our incompetence and lack of farsight…

Dungeon Updates

Well… Dungeons died for me… I was honestly enjoying them before, I was helping my friends with their first dungeons (I am lvl 80 atm, they are somewhere around 50), I was helping my guildies and I was enjoying every piece of the hardcore SM and EXP content…
However after the patch, there is NO reward. You wont even get the money back you spent on repairing the armor…
Add the intense time you need to finish the dungeon and the really bad stuff you get from the chests / mobs… well no fun at all… That is quite bad because I did not try all of the high lvl dungeons, because I was waiting for my friends to get to that lvl!
so now what!?
Tell me great ANet designer “whatever your name will be”, if you ever are reading all this threads and your community talking about quitting the game you created 5 years long (at least till you get your gray matter to work! if not entirely!!!), tell me:
WHY ARE YOU SO BLIND?!
You did a tremendous work on this game and it came to us, even it was not working perfectly the first 2 weeks, we ignored it and enjoyed it because it was FUN and REWARDING! and now you take it from us because some just are grinding what they can, because some found a way to trick you… and now you arekitten and want to block the FUN and the REWARD for everybody?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
