Same here since 2 or 3 patches ago. First i thought about an hardware issue but this only occurs when i play GW2. Other games and desktop don’t crash.
It happens at least every hour (most times the first ~10 minutes!) and also while idle standing somewhere in GW2.
I checked my whole memory with MemTest, i also used Cinebench and Furmark to check CPU/GPU functionality and all works fine and stable.
I also checked GW2 for corrupted data with the -repair parameter.

Here is his backstory:
Once a great trader on the basar of Kodash his guild was driven out by Palawa Jokos brutal tyranny (all trading routes with Tyria, Cantha and more were cut) and moved alongside his guild mates in the direction of the continent Tyria to establish his guild in Lion’s Arch.
During the route through the crystal desert all other member fall victim to Zhaitans and Palawa Jokos armies (to shorten it a bit, one of his comrades betrayed him and told palawa joko about it).
He hid himself with mesmer magic and moved on desperatley but with a clear mind.
Then – one night – he discovered a hidden passage, deep buried in the sands and got contact to some people called “The Order of Whispers”.
Since that day he joined that order because their knowledge might be useful in the future to bypass obstacles like bandits.
Many things happened then (to shorten it here a bit^^) and he finally arrived in Lions Arch.
He was shocked about what happened here and now wants to rebuild his guild – as Lions Arch tries to rebuild itself!
To do so he has to forge a smart plan out.

Well i think you need more than just a backstory – personality:
- clever (a talented and natural genius)
- he would constantly predict all of the possible scenarios that could happen, and plan a solution in advance, even in the most impromptu situations (even during the long travel, but i had to shorten it here)
- loyal to people he likes (he protects his comrades)
- he loves and uses black humor
- he is kind to strangers (they might be customers in the future!)
- he likes instruments and owns a harp

avoiding sandstorm in last fight

Do this when trying an achievement:
Carefully analyze the boss’s mechanics and think a way out of it!

When you kill one earth elemental a sandstorm spawns on the spame spot as the elemetal died. So don’t melee it and you won’t have a problem with it.
The wind is dodgeable with “dodge” 3 and 6.

Well i don’t own a flute so i couldn’t test it but for harp it is:
starting on middle octave and

If you want to do this on flute then you just have to convert these to flute notes:
Harp: 12345678: CDEFGabc(cdefga’b’c’)
Flute: 12345678: EFGabcde(efga’b’c’d’e’)

So for example: the first note on the harp is middle octave 6 so its “a” —> flute’s a is on first octave 4 and so on
I hope i could help you!

Edit: To do this faster on flute just watch the first step i did. 6 on harp = 4 on flute so you can take all of my notes and just subtract 2 on every note and voilá!

Sounds dropping out completely

What are your sound settings on the sliders?
Do you play in Fullscreen Mode?

Maybe it is a hardware issue:
Does this bug only occur recently or was it always this way?
Run MemTest for at least 1 time 100% clear.

I will try your bug tomorrow and see if this is the same for me.
If that is not the case its your hardware ( or software drivers) or the Guild Wars 2 data.
Run a check to verify all data:

Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add –repair to the end. (Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair)
Click OK.

Double-clicking Guild Wars 2 Repair will begin the repairing your game client. The game will launch when it is complete.

Note: Keep in mind that the verification and repair process will run each time you double-click the Guild Wars 2 Repair shortcut. If you would like to play the game immediately without repairing the archive, double-click on Gw2.exe or another shortcut without the -repair command.

This is not possible, the system has always to check which programs are running on your computer and it is not diplomatic.
Even tough i don’t know why people are upset about players with “macros” but we had this kind of discussion in another thread.

Edit: But it works on the harp and lute if you start it all 1 octave lower, they got 3 octaves. Then it doesn’t sound accurate but you can listen to it.

Weapon sounds

Hey spclight!

As far as i know there are some special weapons with unique sound when you draw or use them:

Super Set (8-bit sounds)
The Dreamer (horse sound while the projectile is in flight)
The Predator (laser sound)
Greatsaw and Chainsword
Slingshot
Pop Gun
and i think there are more. Unfortunately you cannot draw or attack with a weapon when you use the preview-function in the wardrobe but i hope these weapons i know may help you.
If you use youtube to search for these weapons you might also get to hear them or ask players ingame who already own them.

Hi Arivel,

i got no experience with the flute yet but what i can hear is that there are not really many accidentals on the first 2/3 of the song on the upper melody, so this would work on the ingame instrument!
E F G A B C D E are your notes on 1-8 but you got only 2 octaves hmm maybe someone who plays it can answer you this better!

A new toggle switch would be the best choice for this kind of things because the instrument toggle is a bad idea (if you want to listen to instruments) and the dalogue-toggle is a bad idea too when you want to listen to NPCs/Events etc.

Hi i am one of the people who publish music on gw2mb.
I never used a sheet from a gw2 player to compose the music, i always take offical sheets or (if there are none) i try to figure them out by ear.
It is hard to do this because of the timing, it takes hours for some songs.
I play the instruments ingame manually because in real life i play many instruments myself but i also use macros sometimes.
So I just do both and try to get better and better with the manually part.
Why is that? I could use macros all the time.
Well i know my songs and how to play them, and when i play i might add some highlights (extra notes) or differ the timing and spacing!
With a macro that is not possible to do.
This is “live performance” and not trying to play the exact same notes every time again and again and again and..
I call this a “cover” of a song.
Also if u check the website there are MANY songs that simply don’t work with 1 player, even macroed.
But people enjoy music (and both is music!) and I am very happy when i hear someone playing MY songs I composed on that website!

I have so much fun with the surrounding audience, we make jokes and sometimes we just chat before i start playing the next song and just having fun!
This is what a true musican (for me) is.

I am sad now. All the effort to learn how to effectively play with my friends will now be eaten by macro using players.

You can use a script/macros for duets? Thats new to me.
There are many musican guilds who can perform such a feat which a “macro user” can’t ever perform.
Also IF this would be banable:
The ressources for investigating accounts is limited. Do you really want to ban real players who want to perform music instead of bots who farm/abuse gamemechanics (example: flying in WvW, farming 24/7, pvp afk with just movement)?

That said this whole notion of legitimacy/legality could easily be solved by providing an in game track listing for players to create and store their own pieces. Then 3rd party tools wouldn’t be required or an issue.

I fail to see how someone using a macro to play an instrument detracts from people who do not use macros to play instruments. I play the flute in real life and the instruments in gw2. I feel no resentment to people who use macros because if that’s fun for them, good for them. Not to mention, constructing a macro isn’t the easiest thing to do if you can’t play the song yourself.

To that end, people playing macros are still playing music, adding atmosphere, exposing people to new songs and beautiful music, etc. If you’re really so bent out of shape about macro instruments, you must really be broken about how the macro music of this game, guild wars 2, is sold for real dollars. IRC, almost every song on the guild wars 2 sound track was made from a macrod set of instruments, not at all unlike people standing in LA letting their computer play Canon in C.

I think guild war’s music is music, even if it’s macro’d, and, for the same reason, I also think player’s music is music, even if it’s macro’d as well.

I play my harp and flute every day in divinity’s reach. I use sheet music to play. What do I do when someone rolls up with a macro and blows new away in quality? I sit down and listen to the pleasant music.This isn’t some contest, no pride involved. I was there so people could have nice music, and now someone else is doing it in my place. Playing music isn’t about who has the longest flute, it’s about entertaining people. And macros, sheet music, tabbing, and free-style can all accomplish that goal.

May i have permission to ask for your attention?
I would like to suggest a way to enhance the instruments in its current way of playing without “remaking” it.
Means that all of you who can already play them don’t have to learn from scratch again!
Nothing will change for you!

I have to explain the piano so you all will understand what i have in mind:
White piano keys are called naturals.
There are seven naturals on the keyboard: C-D-E-F-G-A-B
and it repeats itself alphabetically: C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A

Black piano keys are called accidentals, and they are just that:
the sharps and flats of the piano.
On the keyboard, there are five black accidentals per octave.
They can be either sharp (#) or flat (b), and are named after the notes they modify:
A sharp makes a note a half step higher in pitch.
A flat makes a note a half step lower in pitch.
So if you have a natural C and a natural D the accidental between them can be called C(#) or D(b) but it is always the same key as you can see in the graphic below:

Okay so what does this all have to do with our ingame instruments?

The harp:
It possesses the ability to play 3 octaves, chords and has 8 keys.
1( C) 2(D) 3(E) 4(F) 5(G) 6(A) 7(B) 8( C)

With this you can play many songs but most songs are using accidentals.
Therefore we need 5 more keys for every octave that it looks like this :

Okay here we found a problem, we got only 8 keys and the naturals are fine as they are now! So here is my solution:
When you equip an instrument (for example as a Mesmer) your whole skillbar changes, the F1-F4 keys disappear for example.
So there is free space for the first 2 and the last 2 accidentals!
The 5th one in the middle could be placed directly above the dodge-bar.
Maybe your GUI-designer got better ideas

When first equipping an instrument (after you implemented this) pop-out a tips&info-window explaining that you can make use of the controle options to set hotkeys for the accidentals and naturals (maybe some make use of USB-audio-keyboards!)
Is it possible to set a controle key for every note on every octave? Maybe not^^

This was the first enhancement to the instruments which would be profit for new players and old players as they don’t really have to change anything at all!
If they want to play like before they still can do that but they could also improve their music!

The second enhancement is a bit tricky because i don’t know your source code for the server structure (backend):
When pressing a key you can hear a slight difference in pressing the actual key and actually hearing the acoustic feedback the key produced (0,2-0,4secs depends on lag).
The same applies to every skill you use in Guild Wars 2 because the server has to respond that your action really takes place.

So please add something like an audio buffer on the client-side that prevents this delay only for the ingame instruments.
You can’t perform any combat actions while playing them so it might work.
The note still has to be recognized by the server, nothing will change there!
Just the sound on the client side has to be played simultaneously as you press the key.

This was the second enhancement.

The third and second last enhancement is to play chords without letting keys to be set on cooldown. This happens if you press the same chord 2 or 3 times fast behind one another. I don’t know what causes this maybe you can look into this.

4th and last enhancement: more octaves for some instruments at least one more upper for the harp, maybe 1 lower for the flute to match the range of the other instruments (haven’t played the lute yet so i can’t say anything about this, i hope someone with the lute could answer to this)

I don’t know if this is related to your issue, but if another player around you uses for example the /rank emote the music of all instruments will turn down.

So test it here:
Go to your home instance and turn down all sliders.
Then raise the Master Volume and the Player Instrument Volume only and play the Gramophone again.

I see your point about bach. I just hope new people who pick up an instrument from the gemstore don’t just think it is alright to macro any song since I’m sure it is the same thing as using a bot.

Honestly, I’m not sure, but I’m going to ask Customer Support about it. The fact is, we have a policy against automating gameplay through the use of macros or bots. But music? I just don’t know if the rules about third-party programs extend to non-game-related situations.

Really? You do realize that people are earning gold this way? They sit around and play a macro and set it on loop and go to bed. They wake up with whatever people donated to them because they thought they were playing music with their own hands like a street performer.

Nonsense! Do you really think people do this for earning money?
There are faster ways to aquire gold for example by completing dungeons or crafting…

Every single person I’ve seen use the harp in the last few days has been using a script. Some of them are even citing Gaile’s response as Arenanet allowing macros. Ugh, I hate this game and its players so much. ; – ;

What about moving away from them and don’t listen if you don’t like it? It’s not difficult to do so…
Also if they refer to this post Gaile wrote everyone would see that it is not the case.
On top of that: Can a macro user play a duet with harp and lute? i guess not…

The sad truth is that the ingame instruments got a delay in sound on the client side.
Isn’t this fixable just for the player who plays it?

I personally play real life instruments but i can’t play ingame instruments with the sound enabled! Why is that?
Every time i pick a note for example with the harp, the acoustic feedback occurs 0,3-0,5 seconds AFTER i pressed it and it feels very unnatural.
If i speed the song up and press a note every 0,3 seconds for example i always hear the previous note and it is so distracting that i have to stop it everytime…
So the only solution so far is: Disable the sound and then play the melody in your head and hope it sounds right for the others around you.. or slow it down…
Can you please disable the acoustic feedback delay on the client-side for us?

Achievement Bug: The Emperor's New Wardrobe

I obtained the Asura T1 and T3 Skins via purchasing them from the gloryvendor prepatch and used them on my gear postpatch. But the achievement “The Emperor’s New Wardrobe” is still at 0/90 pieces.
Does i have to buy them again in PvE to complete this or is this considered a bug?

What is the cap for the active part of “Signet of Inspiration”?
It copies all of your current boons to nearby alleis (600 range) but how many would profit of that? Ilussions count as allies.

Todays patchnotes: “Fixed a bug preventing some players from unlocking the WvW Dawn of the Season achievement.”

Well for me it is still bugged, i logged into WvW with my main character (i only play this one) and an alt but neither of them got this achievement.
Are there others still having this problem?

Well its been a while since the game was released and I would like to ask if there will be a future implementation of DirectX 11 or/and the new AMD Mantle interface next year or the coming future.
This would enhance the performance on many pcs and the game will look even more amazing.

Any plans for that?

Workaround: Party with a player that has not the achievement “Tower Antitoxin Injector” yet and let this player open the instance.

I have the same issue, my friends did the story part yesterday (with NPC) and unlocked the “nightmare” one with scarlet.
They invited me to complete the nightmare one and i got an achievement at the end (Tower Antitoxin Injector) and could interact with the machine to see the cutscene.

But there is no way to play the story instance for me, even if i leave the group and enter alone on my self.
Please fix this i want to see how the story envolves

Yeah the server captures your position wrong: Delay.

In your client you move forward and jump nearly the last second but the server gets the “jump” a split second to late so it thinks you are still moving forward and this results in a painful death. Perhaps let the client do more of the calculations devs?

i did it and spoke to moto again (a new dialogue appears) have i done and found everything or does it continue somewhere else? I found it very interesting^^

You have to play through world 2 to get this and i don’t want to spoiler here so i held it as cryptical as i could.

Is it too hard? Respect the awesome work

After playing SAB World 2 Zone 1 and 2 i’m really excited about Zone 3!
Thank you Josh for this increased difficulty in World 2! I really enjoyed it
Some traps like the one-hit darts are new for me so i died the first few times because i tried to do it “fast”. Then i continued to carefully analyse my surroundings and finally i did it! Really THIS was great design
I know this might be “frustrating” for others but don’t you want to have a challenge?
If u play World 2 several times like world 1 you might know all the traps/jumps and this will be not as hard as you thought first of it.
We had this discussion after the Guild Wars 2 release where everyone found the fire-elemental boss in Metricia Province too hard!
Take your time and fix your knowhow about the level + jumpskills and you will succeed!
Most important thing: Don’t give up!

If you run out of lives redo World 1 on Easy/Normal mode to get more bubbles and buy more lifes with it. If you don’t have time for this use the infinite coin.

Why shall guilds fight each other when all races have to merge to stand up against the older dragons?
We first have to get rid of them and then… there could be a new Guild Wars about the newly conquered territory!

Please keep in mind that this game is a mmo RPG and has a story, so don’t violate this rule.

But yeah, gvg has to come sooner or later!

My real opinion is, that the stats are not better in damage/healing/whatever but have the ability to penetrate through the karkas armor.

The problem with that is that first we will need Karka gear, then we may need desert heat resist gear, then we might need no magnetic gear. Opening the door for needing specific gear sets for specific fights/locations is a terrible idea. It makes sense to need a support, a tanky, a dps, ect type gear set. But then to need those 3 but with Kraka Pen is as bad as a gear treadmill. Its and equivalent to old school fire or nature resist sets… cough cough.

I think the Karka will vanish in the final battle, we will kill them all and no Ascended gear is needed anymore!

Perhaps (this is just a guess…) they decided to increase the stats first but now reverse their plans about the Ascended Armor.
This is okay and because of the late answer (blog post) they have this nearly one sided statement against better stats on Armor of their community.

Wheres that blog post they said would be posted? It’s been quite a few hours since those tweets from Martin.

Well the blog post wasn’t intended in the first place so i guess it will take more time than normal.

But i want to have a simple official quote about the following statement:

“Will the Ascended gear be better in Stats for damage/healing/support etc. than Exotic gear?”
“No.” <— This would be enough!
