The Pale Stag is a small guild looking for more payers of all skill levels (veterans especially preferred right for raid groups). We are a multi server guild with players ranging from brand new players to hardcore GW vets. We regularly run Fractals, PvP, dungeons, farming, and map meta events. We are planning on doing raid content with more experienced players.

Our community is small and friendly, we don’t mind teaching as long as you are willing to learn.

We have a level 11 guild hall (Guilded Hallows) and our members are working hard to upgrade it.

I’ve started running weekly guild missions as well now that we have grown enough to do them.

We have a 90% rep policy (okay to switch to bank guilds, world boss guild like TTS, PvP teams or a WvW guilds). Rules are minimal: Be respectful, be helpful, don’t rage, NO DRAMA.

Incinerator 3: spark still bugged. Cant use the cryo dust and the scalding fumes in the molten boss fractal… between this and the map completion bug I’m getting really frustrated that everything i want to work on is bugged.

In Iron Marches the “Prevent the Flame Legion from capturing Invictus Castrum” event has been stuck at 8/10 with no mobs spawning for over an hour. The flame legion shaman is the last boss I need to kill for the Incinerator III: Spark collection and this event doesn’t seem to be timing out or failing.

We are a community focused PvX guild with members ranging from casual to hardcore. We recently claimed our guild hall (Guilded Hallows) and out members have been donating actively to upgrade as fast as possible. While I wish you the best of luck in doing that, I feel I should express how hard that maybe. A lot of people in game are either A: in a large very active guild that requires 100% rep, or B: in multiple guilds perhaps one of which, as I am, a guild they started with some friends. As I said I wish you the best of luck and my aim was not to deter you, more to educate as to how hard this could actually be

I second this, Also if you are looking for people to join and help out you should include what your goal is with the guild. Are you going to be a PvE guild, a PvP guild, PvX guild? Also what kind of players you are looking for. You don’t want to start a guild and realize all the members are people you don’t actually want to be friends with. Best of luck!

Daredevil staff vs no staff

I find staff a blast to use and it has some very good dmg rotations. Try engaging with a bounding dodge for +10% dmg, AA chain for vuln, then vault for massive damage. Use the 10% increase staff dmg when endurance is not full and dodge right before your endurance refills to get the bounding dodger buff. That plus the staff trait is +20% dmg, I also slot the +7% dmg when within 360 units. Add sigil of force, ~8 vuln stacks and +10% from exposed weakness for a total of +50% dmg going up to +70% when target is below half health from executioner.

For PvE I run crusaders gear + some zerker trinkets and rune of the scrapper to get ~1800 toughness while still hitting like a truck. The only thing you’re really gonna notice switching from zerker is a lower crit chance but I can still reach a respectable 65% with fury and signet of agility, and sigil of accuracy.

I almost never switch off staff now that I’ve gotten used to it.

Same here I think I was on the same map as you. Game crashed when boss was at about half health. My logs are only showing OOM and Exception c0000005 crashes. I was having this issue before but with HoT it’s MUCH worse.

and for the record system is:
Win 10 Pro 64bit
i7 3930K 6-core @ 4.4Ghz
24GB 1600 Mhz RAM
AMD R9 280x 4GB
GW2 installed on 256GB SSD

Just wanted to say this is the first time that I can recall that GW2 has been taken offline for emergency maintenance so props for the work everyone (and I’ve been playing since the headstart)! For such a large scale release it went incredibly smooth.

Daredevil dodge animation bug

In core tyria maps (so far happened to me in Dredgehaunt cliffs and Queensdale) The special dodge animation break after a few min. IF you dodge your character will do a normal roll but the effect will still trigger EXCEPT for the extra distance on Dash.

Now My party members and I are having a bug where we approach the rock but are not able to interact with it. Have to completely restart the chapter and start at the first rock.

What I did to make it work: Quit chapter 14, start 13, quit 13, start 14, change your map location. When you start 14 again, it will tell you that you need the poison mastery. Then the “quest” changed to “Find Rox’s first marking” after map switch(I ported from tangled dephs to verdant blink), instead of earning mastery point and dat poison thing.

Dunno if this works for others.

Daredevil - hero points/elite spec thoughts

That has been my feeling regarding the daredevil since its unveiling.

I mean, its “unique class mechanic” is an extra dodge, and instead of GM traits, you get to change what kind of dodge you have (when really that should be on a toggle key just like revenant legend switch)

Not to mention the Acrobatics trait line was mysteriously gutted and horribly nerfed with the trait change patch … and now it’s clear that was done to make room for the Daredevil trait line which also focuses on dodging ….

The DD has felt half-baked since the beginning.

This. And feline grace was BETTER than one additional dodge, it meant you could dodge more often, not get one extra dodge at the beginning of the fight.

The wiki says that endurance regens naturally at 5%/sec but it takes DD 30 sec to fully recharge the endurance bar. So DD seems to have nerffed endurance regen on top of all of this(3.33%/sec) I would be happy with feline grace OR endurance refilling at the full 5%/sec rate.

I’m probably gonna play DD on release just because of melee staff but I really feel like we got shafted here.

+1 to everything in OPs post. I wrote something along these lines in the BWE3 feedback thread, along with many, many, many other people but I’ve kinda given up hope on getting a dev response to these concerns. I am only hoping that if people keep giving feedback about these design flaws Anet will re-balance/rework Daredevil sometime in the future.

Thief feels like an afterthought. Anet obviously doesn’t care about class balance otherwise certain top teams wouldn’t be able to have four elementalists. For testing balance Anet could make bots with very sophisticated AI (so good that it should only be in top tier PvE content that only 2% of players would be able to complete and too dynamic for a strategy guide to be useful…or maybe AI isn’t quite there yet technologically?) play against each other, like team A vs team B playing 100 matches, tracking data, and balancing things that way and using the data in metrics. Balancing would both revolve around 5v5 and 1v1. If a class vastly underperforms 1v1 things could change. If they win too much after the rebalance then they could change it slightly.

If not bots then paying top players to do internal testing would help, but a problem there would be a noob on thief could be a pro on elementalist so it wouldn’t be a perfect solution. The idea would be trying countless permutations of 5v5 and 1v1.

Well this is pretty off topic but either way I have to disagree. Yes the heavy condi burst had made D/P thief much harder to play but I’ve been having amazing luck playing P/P thief and having access to dash will make it work even better. Also lotus training will bring back super unicorn thief play. The meta is shifting for thief which I welcome, since D/P had been the only build worth paying for far too long. I can also see a soldier/pack staff daredevil bring pretty competitive in team fights.

The game’s 32 bit. Even with Large Address Aware the memory heap can get swiss cheesed and an allocation fails.

Restart the game every few hours. Same effect but it will be on your terms at least.

Gotcha. Thanks, makes sense why it always happens in SW now, I just turn on Netflix and train for hours on end.

Daredevil - hero points/elite spec thoughts

I just read the thread on the amount of hero points required to fully unlock the elite spec line and my first thought was this:

The unique dodges are what made the daredevil feel like a cool elite spec when I played it during the BWE. I assume that is how it is supposed to feel. However that means thief players will have to gather many more hero points in the HoT maps before accessing what makes daredevil feel like daredevil. Meanwhile all the other classes get this satisfaction right when they have enough hero points for the minor trait.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the extra dodge is great but it would feel better to have the unique dodges right when all other classes get their unique mechanic and the extra endurance later down the trait line.

Thoughts?

OOM Heap crash, 64 bit, 24GB RAM

My game crashes multiple times a day at this point, I have a plenty powerful system:
Intel i7 3930K @ 4.4Ghz
24GB Corsair RAM @ 1600MHz
AMD R9 280x 4GB @ 1050MHz Core and 1500MHz memory
Windows 10 – all updates installed

These crashes mostly happen in heavily populated SW maps, another problem I encounter, don’t know if its related, is a graphics glitch where the ambient occlusion doesn’t update and obscures sprites like name tags and AoE indicators.

I’ve tried running GW2.exe with the repair flag but it didn’t change much. Anyone else having this problem/ know how to fix it?

So for whatever reason my forum account is still signed in and working, but when I tried to launch the game today I was asked for an authenticator code, problem is I had this disabled a few months ago by support when I got locked out of my account because Google Authenticator didn’t transfer my Anet stuff when I flashed a new ROM to my phone.

So now I’m locked out of the game and account.arena.net (but not the forums, yaaaaay) because there is no option to send the code through sms, automated phone call, or email if you cannot provide the code directly from the app.

So like Googe, a backup method should be added, something as simple as requiring you to add a phone number to send a sms to when you enable the app authentication. Also fixing whatever bug caused 2FA to enable itself.

ALSO when I initially did have 2FA enabled I set my desktop and laptop to trustworthy devices so it wouldn’t ask me for the code again, both are asking me for the code now…

you do realize that it’s a purely superficial difference, right? you’ll still have to pick the traits. you’ll always end up with a special dodge, all of which are incredibly strong as of now.

plus, all our trait options are really strong. making them and the dodges weaker to give room for 3 GM traits would kitten the spec more than help it.

I disagree, the idea behind elite specs was you slot it and instantly get access to a new mechanic. Mes is going “I can go back in time”, Warr is going “Look at me go berserk!”, etc. Meanwhile Thief goes “I can dodge one more time…”.

It doesn’t FEEL like an elite spec as it is now. It feels like a nice new base spec line with some good GM traits. All the other classes I played felt really fresh, DD, not so much.

And yes, the dodges are strong, if the situation you’re in calls for the one that you happen to have slotted. In a teamfight I want Dash for the dmg reduction and disengage, but in a 1v1 I don’t want or need that, I would rather have Bounding Dodger for the extra pressure. Using BD in a teamfight is just going to leap you to your death, Dash in a 1v1 almost resets the fight since it is such a strong disengage. I always like thief because it is such a flexible class and I expected that to be maintained in the elite spec.

Okay, these changes are starting to make the dodges more appealing. I will still go back to what I have been saying about Daredevil for a while now, the 3 dodges need to be part of the baseline elite spec and swappable OOC (or even in).

All other elite specs, when selected with no traits actually selected, get access to their special mechanic. Daredevil however is simply given +50 endurance if no traits are selected. It feels like Daredevil is getting the short end of the stick, having to use GM traits to unlock the unique mechanic, and being stuck using one even though the different choices work best in different scenarios that you may come across within 30 seconds of each other.

TLDR; Good start, but please listen to all the people saying it feels unfair to have to use our GM trait to get our elite spec mechanic.

I have one major problem with Daredevil as it is now, it’s been said before many times too and I haven’t seen a response to this specific piece of feedback. All other elite specs get a new mechanic by using the elite line. Daredevil doesn’t get a new mechanic at all, we are just given +1 dodge. It doesn’t feel right that our Grandmaster line is what gives us a unique mechanic.

I don’t see why the dodge types couldn’t have been rolled into the minor trait and added an additional piece of UI that allows us to choose from the 3 dodges while OOC, or even better, in combat with a CD after switching similar to ele attunements (F3,F4,F5?).

This would feel like a much more complete and special elite spec, where as now it is little more than a base stat boost.

I would love to hear a dev response to this as it has been brought up so many times. There are other things I would like to see tweaked about Daredevil but if everything stayed as it is now with the exception of the unique dodges becoming the elite spec mechanic I would be able to get over the other small issues.

EDIT:
also once you burn some endurance the +50 endurance doesn’t really make a difference, you still have to wait the whole 10 sec (w/o vigor) to recharge one dodge, so this “mechanic” isn’t even allowing DD’s to dodge more often except for that initial burst. This is noticeable especially against smokescales where you have to burn so many dodges just to stay alive – once you double dodge you don’t really notice the extra 50 endurance for the rest of the fight because you’re dodging before your natural endurance regen can even begin to fill the 3rd dodge bar.

EDIT2:
The wiki says that endurance regens at at rate of 5%/sec unbuffed, so DD should be seeing a dodge ready up every 6.66 seconds, but it still takes 10 seconds. Unless the +50 endurance means we have +50% total (for a max of 150%?), not 150 endurance resource, which makes no sense.

TLDR: feels like 1 free dodge, not being able to dodge more often

Gonna add a few more thoughts to my previous post:
If the dodges don’t become swappable in or out of combat they feel like traits that already exist just slightly buffed and with new animations.

Lotus Training = Uncatchable (Adept Major) + torment + whirl
Unhindered Combatant = Expeditious Dodger (Adept Minor) + Rangers Evasive Purity (Master Major. diff condis removed, same concept)
Bounding Dodger = Warrs Reckless Dodge (Adept Minor) or Engies Evasive Powder Keg (Adept Minor)

Being stuck with one is not particularly interesting especially in the case of Bounding Dodger where it is essentially equivalent to 2 other professions Adept MINOR traits in DDs Grandmaster slot.

These dodges are more situational than the regular dodge too. If I pick Unhindered Combatant I have awesome disengage from teamfights and great mobility to get to unguarded points, HOWEVER if I get in a 1v1 the disengage is so strong I spend 3/4 of the fight trying to re-engage. Same goes for Bounding Dodger, awesome in 1v1s (ignoring how hard it is to land ATM) but it feels very weak as an actual dodge/disengage in teamfights. Seeing as you’re going to encounter both of those scenarios in a typical pvp match it’s almost a better idea to not take a GM trait as the normal dodge is useful in both situations.

Backstab isn’t a leap, I believe you’re thinking of heartseeker, which was already nerfed.

Trait Steal to 1,500 -> Mug + stealth + backstab, plus all the other goodies that come with Stealing.

Plus, traited, it’s a 21 second CD.

True but that’s no use in WvW where you need to use ranged attacks to get rid of enemy siege and try to keep them off the walls.

With the recent nerf of Cluster Bomb’s range from 1,200 down to 900 the thief is the only class that does not have access to a 1,200 range attack. This especially impacts thieves in WvW while trying to take down cannons, oil, arrow carts, etc.

I believe that thieves should have a viable option to play as a full ranged class if they so choose as the SB does not give the safe distance from combat that many other classes have access to.

With the last patch the whispers medium coat (transmuted) has a section that is red but no corresponding dye spot to change the color.
