I tend to use this while learning new content. Once learned I swap back to a more traditional 20/25/0/0/25 glass cannon setup to offer more DPS to the group.

This set sacrifices a measure of raw damage due to the lack of investment in the Blood Magic rather than Soul Reaping trees, but does so for a very strong amount of siphoning and sustainability.

In short: If you get hit in the face you’ll be back up to max health in a hurry. Pretty much everything you do will invoke siphoning. If your healing well is on cooldown, then doublestack the other wells and drop back briefly to your axe for the rapid-striking nature of Axe 2 and/or dagger 2 (which also siphons naturally).

I enjoy this setup as it offers solid single target DPS with great AoE burst options to burn down adds and spawns (double well → Deathshroud → Life Transfer = Melted groups).

It’s far from optimal from any standpoint, but it will get you through & act as that security blanket you may want until you’re more familiar with the content and can ween yourself off of siphoning bit by bit. Hope this helps!

Levelling Build Advice

Virtually anything is fine for leveling, but I’ve yet to find something more laughably simple than the minion master to hit the level cap. There’s no “one way” to build anything, but something like this should get you started:

You’re basically unkillable while leveling. You’ll receive so much healing from the dagger’s autoattack and your minions’ attacks that you’ll likely stand motionless and still solo almost any champion you encounter. The build also places a strong emphasis on power, so you yourself will feel useful and chew through things quite readily.

The staff offers you some handy AoE when required & Staff2’s Mark of Blood can offer a nice regen to your whole minion brood.

It also leaves a utility slot open to play with (Signet of Spite is nice for extra dps while Locust is great for covering ground quickly) as well as a few trait options to customize to your liking. I’ll still hop back to it now and then for some extra-easy fun on nights where I’m just not mentally engaged and want simple, mindless fun.

Why No Heals In DS?

Saying “life force generation isn’t good unless you’re fully spec’d for it” is like saying “Healing isn’t good unless you’re fully spec’d for it” or “crit isn’t good unless you’re fully spec’d for it.”

Virtually nothing is really good unless you’re fully spec’d for it. That’s why it’s called a “specialization.”

I love my necro. It’s not perfect, but nothing is. Every class has short comings — some are simply more glaring than others. That’s why you want a mixed bag when it comes to party composition — bring in other strengths to counter your weaknesses.

One of the builds I commonly visit is a heavy Death Shroud build (current favorite is 10/30/0/0/30, though I mix it up a lot). It’s very fun and rewarding, but very self-serving. I get to see some fun numbers pop up on the screen and have fantastic survivability. However, this build brings essentially nothing to the table in regards to group support (unless you consider good damage and one less dead person group support).

It’s a very interesting mechanic with a lot of fun little toys to it. I do dislike the in-ability to issue commands to my minions while in stance, but it really doesn’t detract from the overall gameplay.
