Anyone else didn't get their character slot?

I still think that all HoT purchases should include another slot, since the expac comes with a new profession. Why wouldn’t you also get a slot to try it out?
As someone who doesn’t want to/cannot pre-purchase for some reason, it seems like a penalty (especially if you have a veteran account). I know a lot of folks find the expansion worth the value, but the game is very solo-unfriendly right now, and if you play casually/mostly solo then there is a LOT less content available to you.
These things reduce the value for me personally, and I will not be purchasing HoT. $50 is too much for me when I have to buy a char slot on top of it.

HoT should have came with a free character slot for veteran players without needing to prepurchase to get it.
Do other MMOs give you a new slot for an expansion?
Not being contrary, genuinely curious. I haven’t bought an expansion for an MMO since Cataclysm for WoW.
Yes. Usually if there is a new class to play, there is at least one new slot. (WoW for instance has done this with each expansion that had a new class – Wrath, Pandaria, and now the upcoming Legion.)
I do think it is kind of crappy to require pre-order to get the slot. I truly feel that buying any game should allow you to play every class without having to buy extra slots. The base game doesn’t even have enough for that, unfortunately, which makes it even more of a problem that the expansion doesn’t add a slot. (Let alone wanting to see the different variations on storyline in class/race/origin combos.) =(
As a side note/rant, I have been extremely turned off of pre-ordering games after a few bad experiences, so I am disappointed that there is so much push for it nowadays. /twocents
Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]

I too would like to add my voice in favor of a new character slot included with the base expansion.
It feels pretty underhanded to offer a new profession as part of the expansion content, and then require another purchase before players can try it.
The expansion feels a bit overpriced as well, but it would feel less so if a character slot was included.
Also looking for the Stalwart set in PVE. So far I have only found the coat, as a story reward.
It’s such a great look – why keep it tucked away for no one to use? The more the merrier, yes?
I understand the idea of certain looks being special rewards, but at least make it available, somehow, in both PvP and PvE. Some of us don’t do PvP, and vice versa.
So sad. I would LOVE this hat in PvE. I don’t do PvP. =(
Anet, please add this skin!
Same thing is happening to me! I was getting them yesterday, but neither the Settler Supporter or the Consortium achievements are updating when I do events with the buffs.
Hope you can get it fixed – I’m so close to my sclerite shell ^^
Isn’t there that old saying… “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Yeah. That’s the one.
Sadface that the dailies are not soloable anymore. What happened to “play your way”?
I completely agree – please bring the words back. Some people do much better with words than with symbols. I appreciate more information being there, but could you please at least make it an option?
This is the same thing that happened to Gmail… everyone thinks that symbols are better, but when we get an overload of symbols they become meaningless. To be perfectly honest I’m still trying to learn the boons/conditions ones. That bit about some people being word people? Well I’m definitely one of them.
Having to scroll over that stuff in the hero panel is just clunky, as Runiir said.
Agreed! I don’t know why you guys removed the preview of all armor types… it was a great way to see what was available for other characters while exploring on one. =(
Edited to add, what is the point of HAVING a preview function if it isn’t functional? If the problem was that people were buying things they couldn’t use and complaining, then make it so you cannot buy karma items of other armor types.
One of the main things I use the preview function for with other armor types is when I get a drop of a different type. I liked being able to see what it looked like – without having to change characters – to see if I wanted to keep it for an alt. Now it’s just annoying.

I would love to see the minis available to use anywhere at least. I hardly ever use mine since they just get deposited every time I stow my collectibles. =(
I have to say WoW did it better in the minipets department – making them pseudo “spells” that you could cast from anywhere was a much better mechanic. Since they are cosmetic anyway, why not do this? It would certainly make them more valuable, just by making people use them more often. Which as Sinnyil pointed out, will boost their gem and gold sales as well! Win-win I say.
^ In my opinion, all mmorpgs are about grinding and farming. Don’t be fooled by what Anet said. As long as the system of leveling up exists, the mmorpg genre will always be about killing things until you’re strong enough to move on the the next area.
I still think GW2 should have removed levels entirely. We’d have a lot less people asking “where is the endgame content?” now. Because the only true way of removing “endgame” is by removing the “frontgame” part as well.
Just think: no leveling would mean all progression was directed by playing through stories, acquiring skills, and running dungeons (it seems a waste of content that so many of the “leveling” dungeons are pointless to run at 80). You wouldn’t feel like you had “outgrown” any content, so you could actually “play your way”.
Oh wait, that sounds really familiar. It’s like they did it in GW1 or something. Yes, there were levels in GW1 – but effectively they served as a tutorial, since it took barely any time to get to 20, and then you had the whole game ahead of you.
Needless to say, I am sad to see certain aspects of GW1 be thrown away when they were part of the reason Guild Wars was so great, and different. Another of those things is the open skills system. I get what Arenanet was going for with the weapon skills system, but I don’t think it has the staying power that the GW1 system had. Creating builds made GW1 so very unique and interesting. I have many fond memories.
I’m still playing GW2, but I keep wishing for things that GW1 had. And part of the reason I hold GW2 to such a high standard is that so many parts of the game have been done so right.
I completely agree that waypoint costs are ridiculous. Most importantly, in a game that in every other aspect encourages me to explore every corner, the fees make me avoid exploration.
The people most hurt by the cost are the casual players like me who love the game but just don’t have time to make a pile of money. Even halfway through leveling I was traveling by waypoint very sparingly, using the mists to get to Lion’s Arch, and usually opting to run across a zone to a story point, vista, or heart to save the cash. This does not add to my play experience in a positive way. It just makes me never go look at that amazing vista ever again, because I can’t afford to travel anywhere on a whim.
This just isn’t good design. I get that there needs to be a gold sink in games like these with huge economies. But find a way to make that gold sink actually affect the people with large amounts of gold. A flat tax on everyone that penalizes experiencing the (beautiful!) world that Arenanet has created just makes no sense to me.
I think waypoint travel should be completely free (the economy in GW1 was fine with free travel— it can work), but a good compromise for me would be making travel within the same zone free.
Arenanet I hope that you are looking at this issue. I love this world you have created… so please let me experience it at my pace, and in whatever order I choose! =)
I am having this problem as well. And it isn’t character-based; I had the same problem on a few characters. It almost seems like the sound file isn’t triggering for certain parts of conversations.
It wasn’t only for the cinematic conversations, either. Some of the npc chat boxes that popped up didn’t have accompanying sound. (I knew they were supposed to because my friend was playing with me and he heard it.)
I didn’t have this problem at all at launch, just the last couple of days, since Friday.
Edited to add: it is only the NPC sound that does not play. My own character’s lines always play.
