Deathblossom spam build. What?

Why is this still around?

I’ve created a thief to try it myself and:

1- Didn’t find any leak in the build, if not for the low amount of health it provides (trivial tho, considering the self healing the thief gets back from its passive).

2- It’s extremely easy to play. I had never played thief before and could get the grasp of the thing in no time, whereas whenever I tried any other different thief build in no way could I pull out such an outcome with little to no effort.

How can one counter it?

I’d rather have the old backstab and see this stuff nerfed, instead of the other way around. The dodge on deathblossom is way too strong.

Its actually pretty kitten and rarely used outside of hotjoins. Anything that can remove conditions, or anyone who is decent at evading destroys that build. Not to mention anything more than a 1v1 against you and you’re useless and dead in seconds unless you constantly run. Good players will stay out of the caltrops and range you down or let you burn all your CD’s and burst you when you’re out of initiative.

You might be able to kill some warriors though, but all in all there are better and more effective builds out there for a thief.

I don’t have problems surviving that, as I’m running a semi-tank build, but I find extremely hard to kill them, due to constant dodges + regen.

I guess you’re right, duh.

As for your bunker build, can you enlighten me a little bit on how does it work?

This is only PvP related, as stated in the title.

TL;DR: I am lost at having a sustained damage or survivability using a condition/confusion based shatter build 20-20-0-0-30. Please help with other builds / tips / stuff.

I have few questions regarding builds and effective usage of said builds.

These questions mainly come from the fact that few days ago, I had tried to play a D/D ele, and despite its high learning curve, I was astonished by its ridicoulous sustain plus the fact that it nearly has no downtime.

Coming back to my mesmer, my heart skipped a bit as I have noticed how many flaws my build/playstyle had compared to those of a D/D ele.

I had tried many builds in the past, some copied from others, some of my own invention, a mix of those etc. I was a big fan of the phantasm based builds before the huge nerf, but I liked the sustain on those and the fact that I didn’t have to worry much about downtimes or being out of cooldowns.

I currently run a 20-20-0-0-30 Staff/S-P build, with adventure runes on armor and energy sigils on weapons, condition damage based, granting me a huge boost to clone spammage and loads of damage coming from confusion.

It quite is a one-trick build tho, as my usual “rotation” goes: shatter 3, which grants me to have 25 stacks of vulnerability on the opponent, shatter 2, which grants about 10 stacks of confusion (that ticks from about 1k to 2,5k max), swap weapon, create 3 clones, mind wrack.

At this point, an average enemy is usually very dead or about to die. If this doesn’t happen, I find myself out of cooldowns, basically running around, stealthing and blinking waiting for my shatters to come back. Which, in a 1v1 situation, I can deal with, I have enough escape and kiting tools to survive. It’s a totally different situation in a battle with more than 3-4 people. When that happens I find my self quite helpless.

First, I find it hard to focus on something due to the extreme amount of shoopdawoops going around there, let alone all the classes that clone, blink, stealth, push, pull etc, but I guess that’s just a matter of getting used to it.

Altho, regarding dmg output or even survivability, when I’m out of CDs, I find myself almost useless: I don’t have a good damage output from staff1, and going melee to swing with sword1 doesn’t seem such a good idea. If I get focused, I have 2 choices. Either run away and be of no help for my teammates, or try to resist as much as possible, but I will die eventually.

So, basically… wat do? Should I focus more on direct damage output rather than condition / confusion? Or use a different kind of build? Or different weapons? What gives a good sustain, either in damage or survivability?

I had all this with phantasm, but I can’t seem to find an alternative now.

Halp!

Wut? When? How? You mean there are one vs. one paid tournaments now?

Also, how kittening big is this new patch??? I feel like I am downloading a whole new game. 700MB so far and im only at 30% Oo.

@Ayanavi
I am sorry, I was not aware of the WvW status as I never played it. Not having the time to level or even farm my character, I sticked to the most affordable form of PvP available, thus the meaning of this post.

May I ask why the chance to cast phantasms out of LoS was so needed for the mesmer in WvW?

@Sobex, yeah I see your point, even tho I never experienced foliage breaking los (or did and never noticed), you’re right.

On a side note, what the flop is CoC? I suck with acronyms

I don’t get it guys.

I came back to gw2 after a 2 weeks pause and, reading everything I saw on our forums, I was uberscared and thinking “oh my god, I had choosen AGAIN the one and only class that is NEVER ok, always bugged, perma-nerfed and which everyone, devs included, hates.”

So I logged in to give it a few tries, just to see with my own eyes.
Didn’t change anything at all, I kept everything I had setup as it was before the 15th of november (illusion based build Sword+Pistol/GS) and played a few sPvP matches.

Turns out I got scared for nothing. Everything felt absolutely ok, not overpowered nor nerfed, I had enjoyed some 1v1 as well as 1v2 fights and all I noticed is that, if anything, thieves and warriors do not oneshot me anymore in 1,5 seconds.

Sure, the iZerker (these names are stupid, they remind me of apple products) bug is kinda annoying, although it felt almost trivial, rather than an incredible drawback in our playstyle.

About not being able to cast clones out of LoS (despite the fact that it was an unfair advantage) the only annoying thing here is that they go on their full CD if they fail to land.

Anyway, try to keep this post clean with constructive criticism and avoid massive pointless whines that are of no help to anyone.

Guild Wars, we loved you, and we miss you.

ITT: people who have no idea about how PvP works and think that the best way to jump into a fight is exactly the same as in a PvE environment:

“ZFOMFG, I’ma put full dpzs0rz talents so i can PENWSHOT PPL TEH LULZ!” and forget that in PvP people actually try to kill you, and you need to be able to resist bursts and CCs to perform well in a teamfight.

If you oneshot one opponent and get instagibbed afterwards, you gave absolutely no advantage to your team. It’s a zero sum game.

Plenty of times I happen to encounter thieves, mesmers or warriors in a full dps build running around thinking they’re the kings of the world, and getting surprised when I’m still with 70% health left after their unloaded all their nasty combo on me, and they’re almost dead.

F-F-F-F-F-kittening deal with it.

QQing on a skill that can be dodged, lossed and stealthed and have it go on CD just shows how bad you people are. On plus, you probably forget that when moaed you are still able to run away, dodge, survive 10 seconds, and come back. If you die during it, you would have probably died anyway.

On plus, it’s only as useful in small encounters situations. When it gets more than 3v3, it’s just meh.

But hey, let’s complain about moa cause “bad musmur moaed me and killzdz0r me whne I hd 3000 hp, QQ”.

Funny how everyone is instead ignoring a skill that gives allied team 100% damage increase for 10 seconds.

Go back to pve if you can’t handle such trivial situations.

I feel butthurt ‘cause with this system I can’t show off my ekitten anymore to other people, ‘cause this is what gaming is all about, and I can’t actually manage to enjoy a game for what it is: a game.

Edit: ROFL, p**is gets replaced with kitten, I never noticed XD

Yes of course I am in battle. The tooltip clearly states that the effect triggers while in combat. It is not supposed to proc when out of combat.

Additional info: it doesn’t happen all the times, but I’d say a good 60% of them. I’ve also noticed that if you’re standing still instead of moving while swapping weapon to trigger the effect, it sort of helps triggering it (as in, it gets bugged less times in comparison).

Although it is pretty randomic, so I can’t say I am sure what causes this bug. I guess it needs some observation.

I’ve found a bug with the trigger effect from said sigil: sometimes the effect won’t activate (not only you don’t get to see the animation, but it doesn’t actually chill nearby enemies).

I ran some tests and I think I found out that this happens only when there are a “lot of” actions being performed close to you (read: more than 2), such as an enemy channeling a spell along with some ground effect. That is enough to block the sigil to trigger its effect when a weapon gets swapped.

Which class should I choose?

Niujin.7429

So, I’ve been gifted this account from a friend of mine, altho not having ever played GW whatsoever, I would like to hear the opinion of experienced players about which class best suits me.

I’m into casters, more specifically in casters that require lots of skill to be played, but can be truly threatening and deadly when played correctly. I like the whole idea of setting up combos and spells that work together in good synergy and reward the player if performed correctly. I’ve been told by some friends that either mesmer or elementalist are the classes that can suit me, altho I am quite unsure about them (and I sort of have no idea about what a mesmer is).

What can you guys suggest me?
