I don’t understand why this topic comes up in the forums and in public chat. Seriously.
I’ve taken my character to an ale seller and consumed beer in sequence, like 15 or so. My screen goes all wonky and walking in any direction is a bit of a challenge.
Running is rather hysterical with that wave effect.
Well, next time? Pack a parachute!
Still no response.
Everybody needs to submit an ingame bug report. I have PM’d the original responder from Anet on this, but got no response.
This is bad customer service IMHO. I hope a moderator or developer is actually looking at these bug threads to get the job taken care of………
MMO players have come to expect “more content vs fixing bugs” over the years from typical MMOs.
The current Trading Post prices for potions is rock bottom. Regardless whether a “slaying potion” is Level 5 or Level 80: 3 to 5 coppers each. Had these potions did what they say they do, potion creation would be somewhat profitable. So ineffective potions are a double slap to ArenaNet’s clientele.
I, for one, would vote in favor of a 2-week period where a Bug Squashing Fest replaces yet another Living Story update. A serious concerted effort on the part of the staff to mend broken game parts would soothe a growing number of ruffled feathers.
You are not looking at the right potions. The higher ones say they offer damage reduction as well:
Powerful Potion of Sons of Svanir Slaying
Nourishment (1h):
+10% damage vs. sons of Svanir
–10% damage from sons of Svanir
+10 Experience from killshttp://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Powerful_Potion_of_Sons_of_Svanir_Slaying
That “–10% damage from” is what this thread is about. The “+10% damage to” is working fine.
Whoa! Okay, good point. I have had higher level characters than my current lower ones. But at those levels I just didn’t set aside inventory space for 9 or so potions.
So it seems we have to decide whether it’s worth the extra XP and risk. :\
Hmm.
Weak Potion of Sons of Svanir Slaying
Nourishment (30 m): +3% damage vs Sons of Svanir
+10 Experience from kills
Consumable
Required Level: 5
My thought is: we take more damage in PvE (more pain) and our reward is +10% experience (more gain). The riskier approach gains us +10% XP.
It’s as if someone said: “If you win against that veteran over there… without any armor on… heck, we’ll reward you with 50% more XP/gold/etc.” kind of deal.
I’m sorry if this has already been brought up in the 4 pages of this post. And to be fair: it’s to be expected that a potion would increase protection. But this is Guild Wars 2. Much of this MMO works differently from other games.
It might be possible the OP is asking A-Net to fix something that isn’t broken.
Edit, after reading more posts
Likely the description (in the example above) should say:
Player receives +3% more damage vs Sons of Svanir
Player receives +10 Experience from kills
But my guess is: the tooltip will never change since this is what the developers meant all along. +10 is what we get in terms of experience. So… +3% damage vs. [fill in mob name here] seems obvious.

It’s a good point. No one’s suggesting the tutorial be gotten rid of, merely skipped. I can’t see the problem with a skipped tutorial, so +1.
I have my doubts it will even happen, but I just love the suggestion. My favorite skill point is the Windmill King in Queensdale.
“…you ran from skritt!”
You sure you aren’t overreacting?
Like I’ve had people trash talking me and sending mails and all, but I’m far from thinking they are stalkers. And if they can see where your character is, and which character you are playing what’s the worst thing they can do? Unless you are doing something you shouldn’t (exploiting/scamming/botting) there should be no reason to worry about it.
I’ve re-read the original post. I can see no over-reaction there. It’s not unreasonable to issue a suggestion that GW2’s blocking system match that of GW1.
The ranger has a block on the long sword (#4). Makes perfect sense for such a large weapon.
So, would this “block” be some general skill regardless the weapon? (I can’t imagine blocking with a short bow, longbow or dagger.)
I’m curious about how the mechanics would work for a mesmer’s and elementalist’s block.
I, for once, Im tired of pressing Y (my AOE loot) specially since I play staff ele. Cant count how many times I have to go back to get my loot……
I +1 this idea, reminds me of this other game I once played, this was an amazing feature worth mentioning in any game review done.
AutoLoot Solution – Try these steps:
- Press F11 to call up the settings window and check the following items:
- [x] AoE Loot On Interact [activate this item]
- [x] AutoLoot [activate this too]
- Click the Control Options tab, 4th tab down on the left.
- Scroll down to the Miscellaneous category.
- Choose keyboard shortcuts such as L or any key sequence you prefer to loot all nearby items.
The area of looting is wider with the “AoE Loot” option on. Items you get like wood, minerals and plants are automatically put in your inventory.

The main people who have the heroic addition as a starting game, don’t need to have things purely account bound, if they are just starting out, they they would(by assumption) only have one character.
I had more than one character started before opening any of the Heroic goodies. I read the description when mousing over the packages. It gave warnings about being soul-bound, etc. So, I wanted to wait before using them on a character I might regret creating.
Although account bound so you can mail them to new characters,
I guess you know by now that it’s impossible to mail items from one character to another.
Using the Trading Post’s search filter (Category: Armor, Subcategory: Aquatic Helm), I found, no word of a lie, four items that correspond to that search filter.
Now, search for “Spineguard” and no less than thirteen items appear. Why are there less items for an existing filter (aquatic helm) while there are more available spineguards that do not have a filter?
I will agree here:
(•) All / ( ) Light / ( ) Medium / ( ) Heavy
armor search filter is basic (and surprisingly lacking) for a trade interface.

Some slider options for Norn tattoos would be a welcome change. After all, we don’t find tattoo dyes in-game. So why not let us have a greater flexibility with that set of colours at character creation time?
Hey, +1. Perhaps something in RED would help… something with a distinct “you’re about to lose this item” color.
ObTrollResponses:
Yes, I am an idiot.
Yes, the devs have better ways to spend their time.
- I don’t think it’s idiotic to have this kind of mishap. A snarky answer would expose a player’s own goof history.
- The best way the devs can spend their time, in my opinion: bug fixes, power balances, UI improvements—especially with a view to player items.
+1 for this.
Armor type Filter: Would anyone else want to see a sub-field appear when Armor is selected at the Trading Post that lets us see only armor from a certain type? Example:
Armor Type:
(•) All ( ) Light ( ) Medium ( ) Heavy
Clicking something other than All (selected by default) would only show that type.
Hmm. I’m in game now. Filter set to “Maximum”. I’ve typed “Kitten”, “kitten” and “Kittens” and all 3 words appear in /s and /m chat. None of them are blocked.
Is this a regional thing?
Weather changes offer quite a bit of realism. Queensdale is under heavy rain and lightning when the player starts as a human. For new players this signals a rich and convincing world.
However, actual game play differs. Players meet static weather. Rain in areas such as the Tamini camps in southeast Queensdale is a change… but it seems like lazy map handling: “It rains where the centaurs live… all the time. There’s your weather change. Now leave us alone.”
Temperate zones: Rain, storms, overcast skies should be common.
Frozen zones: Intermittent snowfall with occasional squalls that kick up snow making visibility limited for a few seconds. Possibly a blizzard?
Tropical zones: Hard to imitate a heat wave, but haze is possible, tropical rains, etc.
Technically everything seems in place to offer these.
Reminds me of the Bard class in the game Forsaken World. Their description:
“ Bards hold a harp, walking all over the land, telling the histories of great heroes and their deeds.
“Bards travel the world with their harps, singing about the deeds of great heroes all over the land. In combat, Bards can use their exceptional music ability to debilitate enemies while assisting their allies.
“What Bards lack in combat skills, they certainly make [up] for in the mysterious effects their songs have on enemies and allies alike. With such powerful and versatile siren-like abilities at their disposal, all will be affected in one way or another. When a bard is present, an average group can become a great group.”
When I saw the dredge using music to inspire their allies against me, I couldn’t help but think of the Forsaken World bard to a simple degree. I would give Bard a go if indeed it were a mesmer sub-profession, as mentioned by Orpheal.8263. I would lose the Forsaken World over-fancy clothing though.

It’s always risky to point to another MMO that has worked out the solution and say: “Hey! Why doesn’t our game do what that game does? I mean, they worked it out, why can’t we?” That kind of answer often gets a response like: “Their system is stupid,” etc.
Star Trek Online™. Anyone can make any name they wish. The difference in chat is that one’s account name appears to the right of your in-game name, much like an e-mail address, only the account part is dimmer. So you have “Fred@fredonline” or “Alice@elvesRus”.
While this has led to some confusion (you can meet a “Fred@fredericonline” and think it’s “Fred@fredonline”) I find GW2 offers a different kind of confusion. Here I befriend “Fred” only to have some stranger named “Alice” PM me a few minutes later like we’re old buddies … and nothing clues me in that Fred is Alice! Confusion is going to happen one way or the other.
That being said, the personal naming system is probably buried so deep in the GW2 system that it’s unchangeable. Such a request will never be considered. I prefer a non-unique naming system. And while everyone can have the same name as everyone else in Star Trek Online™, surprisingly most players opt for fairly unique names.
Edit: Good post, Pixelpumpkin.4608. Very useful tips for players who can’t create a name they may have used in other games!

If people are harassing you and you explicitly told them to stop contacting/following you. Take screenshots demonstrating their behaviour and send it to support. That way they can determine whether these people should be banned or not. At least as far as I’m aware harassment is a ban worthy offense depending on each situation.
I can imagine that the GMs or any A-Net staff would find receiving screenshots of this kind somewhat difficult to manage.
- A screenshot of someone near my character would not prove to an authority that I’m being followed, even though that player may have stalked me for hours.
- Establishing that a player can be penalized over a simple screenshot of proximity would lead to great abuse of this power in short order.
The problem involved in increasing the effect of blocking another player is that new ways around it can be found.
I vote on the side of the OP. The idea that anyone can be traced simply because they’ve been placed on someone’s friends’ list as a follower is a bit too chummy chummy for my taste.

A recommendation.
When there are no items in one’s inventory considered a “Collectible”, the option to “Deposit All Collectibles” could be greyed out (gear, top-right corner of the inventory box).
Though not necessary with our first 4-slot freebie bag, it’s more practical when a player has four 20-slot bags in the heat of battle.
