Players who play games for gear rewards and not for the fun of it are gonna have a bad time.
Simply not true.
Developers who think that MMO PVP is its own reward are gonna have a bad time.
Hey at least you can get into WvW. Queue has never once popped for me.
Ive played every class except necro and it appears that they are all pretty bad with massive and obvious weaknesses. Except guardian. Guardian has it all. Insane DPS. AoE. Survivability. Healing. Support abilities. Crazy skills on most weapons.
You need to think of PvP in this game as an MMO version of something like Counter-Strike or DOTA.
People play round after round of these games despite not having any sort of progression.
There is temporary progression of a sort in dota.
Either way, the problem for GW2 is that there is a part of the game where there is full blown traditional MMO progression. People play PvE and expect that PvP will be like that. Then they actually do some PvP and feel like their time was essentially wasted.
I have to admit this was also my gut reaction. For me there are times when PvP can be fun. I prefer spontaneous small skirmishes and find battleground type PvP to be extremely frustrating and unfun. The zerginess of WvW is something I can enjoy, but only if we are winning. Losing a zergfest really stinks.
So the one type of PvP i prefer is essentially not available in this game as far as i have been able to tell. That makes PvP more of a chore for me, so in order to get me to do it theres gotta be some kind of payoff. I cant be the only one that feels this way.
News flash: PvP is not for you. No game should go out of its way to give you a reason to do it. If you don’t like it don’t PvP, its really that simple. Let the ppl who love to PvP do it for the fun of it, for the bragging rights, and spend your time doing something else.
Nope. I’ve encountered your type before. People like you absolutely annihilate games. Literally. The developer gets fooled into believing the majority shares your view and then 3 months later the servers start merging.
I love PvP. I like character building. No good reason at all that i cant have both at the same time. The only PvP format that is degraded by a disparity in character power is battleground instanced PvP or arenas. When it big open world your advantage matters a lot less.
Therefore, keep the static stats and gear nonsense for the smaller type instanced PvP and give us some progression tracks in WvW.

I loved DAoC. My beef with wvw is that the queue never seems to pop.
