Our team is stuck as well. We keep getting placed into the Coliseum with other teams at random.
Stuck in a stronghold match at the moment.
Locking Guild Hall Functions Behind HOT
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Norin Swift.6342
I’m in total agreement here. Players with the core game should still be able to access core upgrades from the guild hall, particularly the buffs: EXP, WXP, MF, gathering, crafting, PVP. None of those game modes are exclusive to the new content, but require the expansion to use.
Locking the vast majority of guild perks behind the HoT paywall is a major disincentive for core, new and veteran, players to join and/or partake in many aspects of guilds. This has left many of my guild members upset. They want to be part of the guild and reap the benefits, but are required to purchase HoT, even if they’ve been playing for years, to do so. In this regard the new system is rather alienating.
Every time I try to preview a guild hall (either Lost Precipice or Gilded Hollow) from the NPCs in the Initiative Office the game freezes, forcing me to close the game and restart. I have an AMD Radeon 6870 graphics card.
We’ve been having the same issues in our guild as well. Chat problems seem varied across users, but we’re only able to build one thing at a time and have had upgrades hang until they’re forced through, as well.
tl;dr A variable gold to gem option should be placed back into the trading post, along with an historical exchange rate.
The new system obscures the exchange and forces players to purchase more gems than they need for gem store items.
Any open, honest exchange shows its rate. Why should the gold-gem exchange now be different? Before this update, I was able to predict the best time throughout the day to convert my gold to gems, and vice versa. This update now forces me to third-party websites for information that was once easily available in-game.
I was considering converting gold to purchase a magic carpet and a few foil-wrapped candies. I don’t need 400 gems to do so. Now, I’m forced to waste additional gold to get these items. So much so that I’m not going to make the exchange. The number of gems that can be purchased should match the granularity of items available in the gem store. If you’re going to list an item at 25 gems, I should be able to buy just 25 gems – through gold or cash purchase.
The inability to choose how much I purchase and through which means – gold or gem store purchase – makes me feel like I’m getting scammed. Why should users be forced to pay more than they have to for the option of buying an item? The way the exchange has been established is equivalent to shopping in a grocery store that only accepts and functions on $50 denominations. Sure you can buy the milk, bread and eggs for $12, but we’ll hold onto your other $38 until you find something in our store worth buying.
Finally, our guild of about 50 people was about to transfer in two weeks since our server never has more than 30 players across all maps. We have been saving gold as a guild to cover transfers and were intending to give each player the exact amount they needed for 1800 gems. Since an 1800 gem denomination can’t be acquired through gold exchange, our guild is forced to save an extra ~35 gold per player, or 1750 gold, to make our transfer! I’m sorry, but this is a substantial burden now placed on our community due to the lack of variable exchange.
I rarely post on these forums, but this change has so negatively impacted our guild and diminished my willingness to purchase gem store items through gold or cash that I’ve felt the need to speak up. And while I dislike emotional appeals, I feel like I’m getting screwed by Anet.

I have a Superior Sigil of Blood and Superior Sigil of Fire equipped on a greatsword, and after reading the combat log (great update, btw) I’m only seeing the Superior Sigil of Fire trigger as expected. The Superior Sigil of Blood does not trigger under any circumstances. This leads me to the following questions:
- Is this a bug, or working as intended?
- Can only one on-crit sigil be equipped per weapon?
- Is there a conflict due to identical recharge times that always gives Sigil of Fire superiority in triggering?
- Would equipping an on-hit sigil conflict with an on-crit sigil as well?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for all the kind words, players from other servers! Honestly, we love fighting each of you – the tactics are always varied, the fights fun, and everyone is pretty respectful.
Kaineng has received quite a few transfers, primarily individuals and roamers, over the past week and it showed over the weekend. Being able to compete with other servers in coverage over the weekend has drastically improved morale, and I feel many people on the server are now really excited about the upcoming season. We probably won’t win it all, but we’ll certainly be competitive and not get blown out of the water.
Looking at the scores from this weekend it looks like most matches are pretty balanced. I’m sure opinions will vary, but it appears the free and reduced cost transfers have been helpful to most. Best of luck to you all, I can’t wait to see you on the field!
Also, PM me if anyone is interested in some GvG fights – we’ve been working on our skill as a guild and would love to test it against others.
A number of other T8 servers have been getting some transfers (here’s looking at you, AR), and we would like to see the same on Kaineng.
I’m not going to lie, WvW on this server is tough. We are constantly reflipping our borderland, protecting what upgraded structures we can, and frequently outnumbered. When we form a zerg, it’s approximately 40 at most. We regularly rely on small havoc groups and dispersed tactics to take objectives, defend, and upgrade where we can.
Nonetheless, we have a tight-knit community, lots of fun in WvW regardless of not competing in PPT, and quite a few very skilled fighters. Being frequently outnumbered develops skill. We don’t lose week in and week out because we are wiped in fights, we frequently win those. We lose because we simply lack the numbers to hold and defend objectives beyond our borderland and EB corner for prolonged PPT.
We have a number of talented commanders, a handful of reasonably large WvW guilds, server-wide teamspeak communication, and cross-borderlands coordination. We have WvW training and organized guild raids.
If you are considering coming to Kaineng, you will be joining us to rebuild. This will take time and effort. This will be challenging.
If you, as an individual or group, want to make a large difference in WvW, Kaineng can offer that opportunity. If you are looking for a challenge and true place to develop skill in fighting and siege defense, Kaineng can offer that opportunity. If you want regular fights without lag or blobbing, and never a queue, Kaineng can offer that opportunity. If you want lots of tournament tickets, Kaineng probably isn’t the place for you.
Give Kaineng some thought – WvW is challenging here, but we relish that.
Kaineng hasn’t gotten any big guild transfers, as far as I can tell, but we have received a few roamers who have certainly helped. A big WvW transfer would actually make an enormous difference to us. That said, any individual can make a big difference too.
If you’re still considering jumping down, consider Kaineng. We’re always in fights, always defending, always pushing when we can, and relentlessly fighting regardless of the odds. If “winning” by ppt coverage is what you’re aiming for, you’re not going to find it on Kaineng unless we get more trasnfers. But if you want a daily challenge in WvW and a tight-knit WvW community, Kaineng welcomes you!
Give it some thought.
You’re welcome back anytime, Meekz! And feel free to bring friends!
Indeed, if anyone is looking for a new server to call home or want to return to their native server, we would love to have you as part of our community and fight alongside you in WvW.
I look forward to seeing more DD commanding and taking part in WvW during this upcoming season – your guys will certainly help!
Bump, hoping to see some transfers!
If you like fights, come to Kaineng. We’re frequently outnumbered, HAVE to fight to defend what we can hold, never have queues, and small groups of people can make a huge difference in PPT.
If PPT and “winning” the week-long match is your thing, then Kaineng probably isn’t the server for you. But if you thrive on adversity and want your individual actions to have great impact, then we can provide that in spades.
I think the free transfers are a good plan on Anet’s part to start dealing with population balance. Tiered transfer rates for several months straight would certainly be more helpful, but this is certainly a step in the right direction from our server’s standpoint.
I would love to see Kaineng get some transfers, but am hesitant to get any bandwagoners – many of us know where that leads. But if you’re looking for a new home, are willing to stick around to rebuild, and enjoy a persistent WvW challenge, then we have a dedicated WvW community that you would be welcome to join.
Thanks for the kind words from other servers! I’ve been on Kaineng for the rise and fall, and those that are left certainly relish the adversity and don’t get too down over the losses. Honestly, I like the dynamics in the lower tiers much better than when we were T2 or T3. EVERY person can make a difference and you don’t have the luxury of turtling and NOT fighting. And the fights are definitely intense and fun without the lag, skill lock, and skill 1 spamming with 50 v 50 fights. We do what we can with the population we’ve got and every victory over superior numbers and coverage is very satisfying. Seeing more people join us for the season would be great, but we are training newcomers every day and trying to rebuild from scratch. Once we get enough coverage, we’ll certainly have skilled players – being outnumbered is a great way to improve one’s fighting!
As a regular opponent of ours, AR puts up great fights and are the masters of defense. Kaineng has recently taken quite a few notes on upgrading, defending and holding points like AR does. I’ve been on Kaineng on the ride up to T2 and fall back down, and I have yet to see a server that gets their points defensible and upgraded as quickly as you guys. I can’t speak to the community on the server, but from the outside you definitely appear to have strong organization and communication.
Best of luck in the upcoming season, and I hope you guys get some good transfers to take on tier 7!
Kaineng can offer you nothing but peace and quiet.
Indeed, our EB lord frequently gets lonely and decides to join other servers.
I know what you’re thinking: why would we go to the bottom ranked server?
Kaineng has nowhere to go but up! As I’m sure many of you are aware, since reaching tier 2 Kaineng has been steadily losing guilds and WvW players for over a year. Many stuck it out, but reduced transfer costs at the beginning of last season was our death knell. Good news – there’s no one left to lose!
Those remaining on Kaineng are dedicated to the server and rebuilding from scratch. We have a number of dedicated and highly skilled regulars, we’re training newcomers and new players, and we’re looking for more to join us. We fight well when together and frequently beat other servers’ groups head-to-head, but simply lack the coverage to keep up PPT.
We’re a friendly community, we never have queues, and real-estate is cheap – you get your choice of objectives to claim! If you’re looking for opportunity, Kaineng is a server where you can really make a difference. From small roaming groups to large, organized WvW guilds – any transfer can help immensely.
There are a few WvW-oriented guilds on the server – LoTA, SN and HERO – but we would welcome more. Feel free to contact me or anyone in LoTA for more information and friendly discussion!
Come to Kaineng! We rarely get more than 25 people together in either our borderland or EB zergs, so roaming groups can have a big impact. Our community is small, but dedicated, and there are primarily three more-involved WvW guilds: LoTA, SN and HERO. We usually fight pretty well together, but we simply lack the numbers to hold PPT for substantial periods, so roaming groups can really help. Let me know if you want any more info!
After reading Christina’s post and seeing this, I would certainly buy gems to get an in-game mini/skin of which a portion of the proceeds went to an MS-related charity.
Advocacy and charity are not likely major components of Anet’s business model, but I for one would be more than willing to purchase gem store items tied to some donation for charity, and would love to see something like this.
