Pun intended!
My guess is that if you’re ONLY able to play each class for their utmost high end content potential, the engineer is nothing more than a grenade spammer with 25 stacks of might and if you want to do anything else to help the team, just log out of your engi and go play a Guardian.
But if you’re open minded to the versatility of professions like the engineer and the necromancer, have in mind that when using this build you should consider the bombs “collateral healing” for the melee members your group.
So, ladies and gentlemen, do we have a guy who appears to be a thinly veiled hired poster? 3 posts but decent knowledge of the game. And of course a post from a looking-through-rose-tinted-glasses perspective. AND a mediocre pun? “Open minded to the versatility of professions”, really? You even admit that the engi (and necro) don’t cut it at high end content besides one viable and tendonitis-inducing build. Being fun and versatile as a class in an MMO does not mean it should not be balanced to the level of other classes.
As to the post itself: KR not giving the elixir S proc means no constant regen and double cleanse that we could put in almost any build in times of yore. So in order to be even helping a group (besides the standard blast/combo finishers that every dps build has and should be aware of) we have to go full cleric, with bombs. Which is quite a useless build. Every other build would have helped the group much better. Even a grenade build that has healing turret.
If stuff die faster, the group takes less damage. The melee stack having a 700hps battery is not a good trade off for a 5th member who adds a ton of damage. (And don’t get me started on a comparison with guardians/eles that want to support, wearing the appropriate gear). So don’t try to sell that exceptionally new and innovative build (/sarcasm off) as something useful. It is fun and it can be marginally usefull for topping people up and that’s it.
That is actually one of the most well thought out and well written posts I have ever seen. I cannot (strongly) disagree even on one of the suggested changes, both on the “buff” perspective and on the “not going overboard” perspective. Perhaps FT2 being a blast finisher, as mentioned above, would need a slightly longer cooldown, considering the plethora of fields available to the engineer. Or battering ram with 30 sec cooldown and being instant might be too much (agree with the 30 sec, but believe it needs a slight casting time), but that’s about it.
I love in particular the changes suggested to thrown elixirs. It would really make them meaningful, and lessen the RNG, while keeping the variety. No thrown effect is useless and I reckon, engineers would be using all of them, when the situation calls for it. I agree with the posters in this thread that thrown elixirs are currently only used as a means to activate HGH and 409 traits.
I STRONGLY encourage the developers should take a look at this excellent thread and adopt some (or most) of the suggestions stated here. This thread is the sum of the collective engineer players’ experience, in both problems and solutions to them, in order to make the class both fun and balanced.
Yeah right.
If everyone who is not AT ALL happy with their engineer deleted their characters then we could see them looking into the problem.
When I do less dps than anyone else, there is a problem
When I have to piano through 20 skills (not exaggerating) to achieve a third of the burst dmg and control of a thief, there is a problem.
When I am being killed by an elementalist who is full hp after the 40 sec long 1v1 and I blew all my cooldowns, avoided all the large attacks there is a problem.
When I must play support in a dungeon or practically contribute nothing as a dps, there is a problem.
When I love playing that class but am forced to level up alts so that I can see over 2k numbers, then there’s a problem.
Are you people blind??? What is wrong with you realising that the damage of the engineer is WAY too low. And don’t start talking about grenade spamming or toolkit bunkering. I want to be able to play with something else than kits. I want to be able to DO damage instead of outlasting all other classes and hoping to god they are kitten
Yes, there are a couple of semi-viable builds. But is it fair that I do 1/5 the dps a warrior does? Yes i’m versatile. But I am also doing almost NOTHING in terms of damage.
So seriously, fix engineers. I quit for a month, my friends pulled me back into the game (and it’s a bloody great game overall) but after today’s humiliation both in pve and in 1v1s in WvW i’m about to quit. And it’s not only about the engineer. It’s about the attitude of “all is fine”.
A seriously disappointed engineer who has played MMOs for a decade but has never ever complained at an MMO forum in his life before. —-
