Contrary to popular belief in the WvW community the commander book/icon wasn’t developed only for WvW. Commanders has a PvE counterpart also.

Take a look at the EU standings Gunnar’s Hold is moving up 7 spots. thats just stupid crazy.
And, Arborstone down 7 (3 tiers).
Get used to it. This is what it will look like after all servers are reset Friday for at least a month.
Looks like the rest of this week is just practice:

Yep, the discussion came up for SBI to just take a break for a week and drop down. But, the PUGs are having no part of it…:oP
@Porky,
As I said SBI started with a lot of competitive PvP guilds from GW1. They should be proud of what they accomplished on SBI. I am sure once they get some time on their new servers and get rested and back to playing for fun they will continue to make a name for themselves.
First off I would like to say SBI is just fine. If I had to pick a server as “under dog of the year” in WvW it would be IoJ. They have suffered a lot bigger loss than SBI. As an example we held a meeting last Sunday to see if there was still any interest in WvW. Over 40 guilds showed up. We are still in WvW and still racking up points.
The difference in SBI now and a week ago is most, if not all, the dedicated WvW guilds left. I have nothing against them leaving. It has been apparent for some time that SBI is not a dedicated WvW server. Most of the guilds that remain on SBI are PvX. Meaning they enjoy playing all aspects of GW2. Score and tier have never really mattered to us. Which can be quite frustrating to someone who is dedicated to WvW only. SBI started with many competitive PvP guilds from GW1. If sPvP had been implemented correctly from the beginning a lot of those guilds would probably still be on SBI. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case to date. So, the short version is they needed to go where ever they could participate in dedicated PvP and have fun. Without worrying about trying to make their server competitive and ruining the fun for themselves in the process.
The situation is much healthier for all concerned now. No one feels the need to carry SBI and put in insane hours to keep it competitive while burning themselves out in the process. We that remain will continue to WvW, but only for the fun of it. If Anet decides to make it unfun, or to make some other aspect of the game more fun than WvW not many will be around. If Anet decides to show WvW some love and make it just as much fun and rewarding as other aspects of the game you will see more players participating. Any blame for what SBI is now as a WvW server isn’t with the people who transferred or staid.
Outside of WvW SBI is still the same server it always was. It is just now more fun for everyone concerned. If your on SBI and want something more than you are seeing in WvW you might want to join the community at http://www.stormbluffisle.com/index.php/forum/wvw and work with the other people trying to improve SBIs WvW performance. It will be more productive there than posting here.
In all honesty it has come to the point of guild survival. I am on SBI and will be staying on SBI. I have watched my guild go from 157 in August to less than 20 actives now. Most of the guilds leaving today have been with SBI from the beginning and I don’t hold any hard feelings against any of the ones that are moving. They need to do what they need to do to keep members happy and having fun or they will face the same fate as my guild.
That is the state of the game and WvW.
Indo,
All them guys left SBI and are on other servers now.
Actually, a LOT of the guild transfers recently have been to keep their guilds motivated to keep guild members showing up. I have watched my guild go from 157 to 20 actives since Lost Shore weekend. It has nothing to do with “band wagoning” it is about survival if you still want your guild to be around in another 6 months.
Botttom line is if people aren’t having fun they won’t stick around. People are just trying to keep things fun however that is defined. If that means transfers to accomplish that is what they will do. Losing influence doesn’t matter if the guild is bleeding players.

I just wanted to stop in and say welcome to Tier 1 and grats on the work in getting there. Some of the best fights I have had was against SoS & JQ in BWE3. Glad to see things haven’t changed.
and can someone post the link to next week projections? (I’m on phone and lazy)

The Malyck story, in the Sylvari story line, tells a lot. He is Sylvari. Confirmed to come from another tree. He knows nothing about “The Dream” that the Sylvari from the Pale Tree are familiar with. That is why the Nightmare Court see him as the Harbinger because they see his tree as being free from the influence of Ventari. Malyck initially has no predisposition to fight the Elder Dragons only the Nightmare Court who have harmed the Wardens who have been kind to him since his “birth”. His determination to fight the ED only comes at the end of the story after the NC has been dealt with and he leaves to go find his mother tree.
In the original GW1 story the cave where Ronan found the cave with seeds, more than one, and sentient plant creatures guarding it. He was only able to take the one seed he planted at the grave of his family. Obviously, with the story of Malyck other seeds have made their way out of the cave and also been “planted” in some form or fashion. Though from Malyck’s story we see not all the trees are the same. Not all Sylvari from the trees have a “Dream” or are connected to other Sylvari from “their” tree.
If you study the story about Malyck there is a LOT of information about:
1) There is more than one motherTree
2) Not all “Trees” are the same
3) Sylvari from different Trees do not have the same experiences or motivations, And are the same in form , so far, in that they all seem to take on a humanoid form.
4) Not all Sylvari from every Tree experiences the Dream or a connection with other Sylvari from their mother Tree. Which is why the story ends with Malyck leaving to go find his mother Tree and the Sylvari associated with it.
5) Contrary to what the Devs have said in interviews not ALL Sylvari have a “natural” disposition to fight the EDs. Malyck didn’t until the end of his story after his meeting with the Pale Tree, when he starts getting the bigger picture from the Pale Tree.
As to the OP with the Trees being ED or ED champions. Seeing the differences between Malyck and the Pale Tree Sylvari it is hard to reconcile. I have my own theories about other Trees and the origins of other plant like races found in Maguuma and Cantha. But, that is for another thread…:o)
First off I am SBI since the day it became a server, just to get that out of the way.
Next, BG and JQ don’t suck you are just going through what we have already experienced in week 5 (22-28SEPT) and hopefully it is a lesson SBI never forgets. The match was HoD-JQ-SBI we came out roaring for the weekend into Monday and had HoD by 24K points. Morale was never higher, ques were never longer. Tuesday morning Anet did and update and when everyone came back on all the siege was gone. With in 8 hours HoD took the lead and SBIs morale took a dive with it. They ending up winning the match by over 60K points.
SBI had to sit down and do some real soul searching about just who we were in WvW. Truth was we are a server with 90% PvE population and very few dedicated WvW guilds. A lot of those WvW dedicated people were putting in 8-10 hours every day just trying to cover the bases for all the time zones and were pretty much burned out. The come back from HoD just knocked the wind out of their sails. The 90% did what the 90% always does just played casually.
Out of that week came the SBI you play WvW against now. We have learned a LOT since then. We actually started working on getting the server organized, though many will tell you we still have a long way to go just in the communication dept with the 90%. We started playing with the reality of who we were and quit making WvW a second job and started having fun again. Which is why you see the way we play through the week. We have no delusions we still don’t have 24/7 coverage. For the most part the people you are playing on the weekends now are the 90% because the dedicated WvW players have learned that they need to put their best foot forward Tuesday-Friday and are usually wore out by Friday reset.
The biggest reality is that at the end of the day WvW is just a game. It doesn’t trump real life. It should be FUN. The whole purpose is to get a break from real life doing something you enjoy. If it isn’t fun for you you need to step back and see why you are playing. Every person has to answer that for themselves. On SBI it has taken some players weeks to come to terms with it. That is fine, they come back playing with a different mindset and WvW isn’t a second job they hate as much as their real one.
Thus why our motto after week 5 became log in-rock out- screw the score. The score stopped mattering because in the end that is always decided by things beyond your control, like the 90%. What really becomes important in the long run is did you give it your best? If you did then you have nothing to be ashamed of no matter what the score or PPT is.
Bottom line if you are worried about the score or where you server is placed then you are just playing the forums. Anyone can see from the past weeks threads that is where a lot of people play WvW. If you are actually in the game just do the best you can do, you’ll have more fun in the long run. And, you might be surprised at the results when you are doing what you like to do. The BG and IoJ we played in week 6 had that attitude and in all honesty I thought you guys were great servers that week, no matter what the score said.
Kudos to all you guys that slug it out in the trenches every day no matter what server your on!! Keep having fun….:o)
For the last 3 weeks it has been right around 8PM eastern time, +/- 30 minutes…:o)
oh I thought SBI’s concern was not to be on the top spot as was stated on this thread?
I guess that was it then, till you guys got the lead now….anyways, hats off to the sbi crews who flipped almost the entire map overnight, got all 3 orbs, and closed the gap with JQ.
It has been a great week. And, all 3 servers have put up good fights. And, most important it has been fun. I’m on SBI and nothing has changed. You know how we are, it isn’t about the score it is about the fight and no one will go home a loser out of this one no matter how it turns out.
mangarrage,
Welcome to tier 1. It is like that a lot on any of the maps when more than 40 show up for a fight. I have seen fights in the garrison lords court where everyone is invisible, even your own players and all 60-80 players are just spamming AoEs trying to hit something, lol. And, even then it can take 10 seconds for a skill to go off.
I dont understand all the hate. You guys shouldve known what you were getting into by investing in chests. I’m having a lot of fun carving pumpkins and costume brawling while youre moaning on the forums about how you didnt win the lottery.
Because Anet could have done things differently. The Anet of GW1 would have done things differently. It wasn’t about the money it was about having FUN. The Anet of GW1 I would have gladly given $15-$20 every month in the cash shop because I knew exactly what I was getting. No chance or gambling involved.
I drank the cool aid for 5 years waiting for “when it is ready” only to find out it wasn’t ready and got released any way. I don’t drink it any more because this Anet has lost all credibility with me. This event has just solidified that idea.
I’m on SBI and it was explained to me quite vehemently this morning in Lions Arch that they can play WvW any time, these events are only once a year. So you can see the mind set of our server…:oP
Nope. The closest they have given for a time was during the broadcast they did this afternoon. He said “tonight” which if it is pacific time could mean there is up to 12 hours to go….:oP
They said that more than just the Halloween content is being introduced with the new update. The new dungeons, jumping puzzles, etc. will be staying. You will still be able to craft the Halloween stuff you have recipes for. Only the ingredients you can harvest for the recipes will go away with the event.
And, of course the content for the Halloween event itself will go away after 1Nov.
Noviere.7309
Based on the preview video released by PCGamer, the vendor-bought recipes seem to be account-Bound, and are purchased with karma. This means that even if your crafting isn’t high enough, you can at least get them along with the required materials and then make the item when your skill is high enough.
Obviously this wont apply to discovery-learned recipes, but there may not be any of those.
They said on Twitch that you will still be able to craft the stuff. What is going away after the event is the special things that can be harvested that you need for the crafting.
Not yet. Speculation is in an hour, but, Anet hasn’t said anything yet. Anet did a Twitch cast and said there would be new content in Fireheart Rise and Dredgehaunt Cliffs. And, Halloween content (new harvest items) all over and Lions Arch.
Soulstitch,
They have been on our server a couple of times. Be glad they are coming to SBI and not your server. Every time they come on the “militia” just starts following them around no matter what is going on strategy wise on the map. Which usually ends up turning into a disaster for us….:oP
Out of the matches I have personally been involved in the last 8 weeks the only servers that I have seen that fight to the end no matter what the score or ranks are are JQ, SBI, IoJ and Blackgate. There may be more, but I haven’t played against them yet.
And, by play to the end I mean still fighting up to the reset for the next match. IoJ and Blackgate did this two weeks ago against SBI even though the score was a blowout. I gained a lot of respect for those two servers that week.
For JQ and SBI we have had a rivalry going back to when SBI became a server in the BWEs and always fight each other that way no matter who the 3rd server is.

Raven Paradox.1860
Thanks for the score updates. Will be interesting to see which server pulls it out and which we (BG) will be fighting next week. I hope IoJ loses because we need our payback and we want to fight them.
My money is on SBI.
I have been thinking about this ever since you posted. I think it will probably still end up 1) JQ, 2) SBI & 3) IoJ. When I thought about it in the end the score is about 24/7 coverage right now and that is pretty much where these servers are. All it takes is having a gap of an hour in coverage to lose everything.
But, that said this has been one of the best weeks in recent memory harking back to the epic battles between JQ & SBI in the BWEs. I am so glad there are other servers willing to fight it out no matter what the scores or ranking are.
(edited by Notrub.6925)
SBI since week 5:
“Log on, Rock Out, Screw the Score”
All 4 servers JQ, SBI, IoJ and Blackgate have played recently and all four are gaining a reputation for fighting to the end no matter what the scores are. So I expect good fights like this to come no matter who is in the top 3.
If SoS and one of the up and coming servers also fight like this Tier 2 could become just as good. Then it really won’t matter if you are in any of the top 6 spots because you know you will still have a good fight in the coming week’s play.
Only, time will tell????
Well, according to http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA , we might not even be gone next week. ET is falling it looks like, not rising. This seems to be causing HoD having to linger in tier 1 even further
That is because TL moved again from ET to IoJ. But, you could be right because IoJ was behind HoD & ET in the rankings and might need two weeks to move up to a T1 match. In all honesty, if IoJ doesn’t get better 24/7 coverage not much will change.
The BWE rivals JQ & SBI will be bumping heads for a while. HoD proved to both servers that even a 4-6 hour window in not having full coverage on all 4 maps can mean the other server making 20K points.
(edited by Notrub.6925)
Anthrage,
You could be on to something. I know SBI has gone through pretty much the same process. Although we really didn’t get started with the “community” part until BWE3. We also set up a server wide website and 500 slot TS3 for the people playing WvW whether they are in a guild or not.
For the core 1400 players and guilds that started the project back in BWE3 I can tell you that they will not be moving anywhere no matter what the score is or who is #1. Our main goal was getting everyone together on one server because of bad experiences with our guilds getting scattered over several servers from BWE1 to BWE3. Now, our guilds would be punished for moving because we would lose everything we have built up since release. Plus, I do not know how things are on JQ, but it has been obvious since release that SBI is not a WvW server. Like I said there are about 1400 people out of 39000 that are dedicated to WvW. So it became a no brainer to set up the forum and TS3 for all the 37600 that show up on a random basis to play WvW and don’t know what to do. And, I am sure you guys have the same experiences we do with all the people just showing up on a map to get 100% explorer completion or to do their monthly. Out of the guys doing monthly some have actually gotten involved in what was really going on and come back to actually play WvW.
All the drama two weeks ago was the best thing that could of happened to us. With all the people giving up and just not playing because of the scores the ques went away. And, those of us that like playing WvW got to do just that play. Going to T2 was like a breath of fresh air from the daily grind that T1 has become. The scores with IoJ and BG didn’t matter. I actually think all 3 servers were having a blast just doing what they like to do: play WvW.
But, in regards to your post. Treating your server as “the alliance” does seem to be the way to go.
(edited by Notrub.6925)
Thanks for the education…:o)
Now I know.
I just wanted to chime in on the orb thing. First I am from SBI, just to get that out of the way.
Anyway, yesterday I played about 13 hours on the SBI borderlands map. We had held the garrison since the day before. About 3AM eastern I was waypointed to the garrison to to do repairs. I just happened to be facing the orb altar when lightning struck the room and the altar was broken and the orb was gone. About a minute later the orb appeared at the Titanpaw orb alter. We went to go retrieve it but the orb guardian and all the NPCs were green and we couldn’t attack them to get the orb back. It sat there for 11 hours before I beleive it was BG came and got it and took it to the Hills keep.
Now, that I have seen it with my own eyes I do not think a lot of the talk about people exploiting to get the orb is what is actually going on. There seems to be some kind of mechanic in place with the quaggan to break the orb altars in the keeps. Which is fine by me now that I understand it. It just means that having the quaggan on your side will be important and probably lead to some epic underwater battles from all 3 servers.
Though I do believe that the NPCs being unattackable for 11 hours by the home team must be some kind of glitch? Would be nice if someone from Anet could chime in one way or the other to verify if this is what is really going on with the orb and if it is intended?
Score as of 4AM Eastern
http://heet.enjin.com/gallery/m/4651855/detail/92420#pid=838190
I don’t think in the grand scheme of things it will matter. I am on SBI and will play HoD again next match and the match after and the match after till we all get fed up and don’t play. Unless something else changes there will never be a SBI vs JQ vs ET match. Even if you hide the scores until the end of every match.
Btw, that has to do with 24/7 coverage more than anything else. How does hiding the score fix that?
I can confirm the skill point is working on Stormbluff Isle. I even stayed and help 7 others do it to make sure it was resetting. This was at 9PM Eastern time.
It would be nice. But, I think it would have to be contained in the HoM instance instead of out in the world because in reality there are millions of Ultimate Heroes from GW1 with different names. Containing it to just the HoM instance makes it possible to actually name your hero and provide a back story of what happened afterwards. Though for me personally I could live without the back story as I have already created one. My GW1 main went to live in the Grove and died there in peace, finally. Which does a lot to explain my Sylvari main’s access to my GW1 hero’s HoM.
THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS SO DON’T READ IT IF YOU CARE!!!
Just so you know, you are missing a few points.
1) Ronan found the seed that made the Pale Tree in a cave full of SEEDS (plural, meaning there was more than one seed. Ronan only took one of them.
2) If you choose the correct set of choices for the story line you will be presented with the fact that there exists more than one Pale Tree when you meet another Sylvari named Malyck who knows nothing about the Pale Tree or the Dream. Malyck’s story eventually takes takes you to his pod in the river where Caithe explains why the Nightmare court considers Malyck a “harbinger” because he has no knowledge of Ventari’s tablet and so hasn’t been influenced by it. The Nightmare Court seeks the “harbinger” to lead them to the other pale tree who they see is free of the influence of Ventari which is what they seek because they believe it makes them fight the dragon with one hand tied behind their backs. Be that as it may, Malyck, in the end, shows that even without the influence of Ventari’s tablet that the Sylvari are predisposed to fight the elder dragons and clean up their corruption as Malyck’s last scene is him leaving to go find his pale tree and the Sylavri it has produce to raise another army to fight against the elder dragons.
In GW1 lore there have been several plant races and much speculation as to their origin/s (the Wardens in Cantha for example). The multiple pale trees coming forward with each rising of the elder dragons explains a lot of this.
5. An instantiate-able (aka overflow) , non-point scoring WvW map.. a lot of people don’t give a crap about points, they just want to roam around the map killing other players. These people can queue there and just find other people to kill. This will satisfy the curiosity of a lot of PvEer without making the queue worse. Heck make it fun and make it a Eternal battlegrounds clone.
Actually, the real problem here is that Anet made the monthly achievement require 100 WvW kills. When servers have a population of just under 40K and there are only 666 WvW spots open at at any given time you can do the math and see that it is virtually impossible for all the PvE’s to even have a chance at a monthly. So when they do get in they don’t care about winning or losing, just getting the kills to fill their monthly.
As to moving to a lower pop server for the 1000’s of us in guilds that got burned during the BWEs and couldn’t get all of our people together on one server to play together it isn’t going to happen. We put in months of work and planning for release to be able to play together on the same server to take a chance now to try and move and get scattered across servers again. Guild perks aren’t even a consideration, just like moving isn’t one. We are in a guild because we like playing together even if that means ques.
As to the OP I had hoped to see the real issues with WvW.
1) The current rendering is broke and has been broke since BWE1. Anet KNOWS it is broke and has many screens shots from players showing invisible enemies. Most of the time you don’t know if you are going against 4-5 players or 50 until your dead and count them as they walk over you.
2) Current exploits that allow players to speed cap orbs and keep them in glitched keeps where they can’t be retaken.
3) Being able to build siege in areas that keeps anyone from being able to counter them, ie. spawn zones.
4) Making the out numbered boon actually mean something. Since it’s inception it really hasn’t made any difference at all. Especially compared to the boons from orbs.
5) Giving WvW a back seat to the rest of the game. The specific issue here was that Anet decided it was more important to reduce the number of servers after BWE2 and thus increase the server pops to almost 40K. Even while they knew that they couldn’t increase the pop cap (666 per server for the 4 maps) for WvW because of the rendering issue above. All this did was create horrendous ques. Now they are trying to back track to “fix” that by adding more servers and asking people to transfer to them. Which is a NO GO for those of us that spent months trying to get our whole guild in one place so that we could play together. All it has meant is that a lot of people who enjoyed playing WvW in the betas quit playing till Anet really fixes the issue they created. They could have at least stopped the transfers to high pop servers to alleviate the issue some what but so far they have been unwilling to do even that???
There is probably a whole laundry list of other “glitches”. But those are the real issues with WvW right now.
(edited by Notrub.6925)
WvW is 24/7. It has always been advertised as such. All this stuff about “night capping” just means all you are really worried about is you. I am NA and usually play midnight to 8AM my time because that is the only time on Stormbluff that the ques are short enough that I actually get to play. By your logic my play time is not as important as yours. And, my achievements and success shouldn’t count as much as yours.
I hope they don’t do anything about it. It is a 24/7 game. Everyone’s contribution for a server should count just as much as anyone else’s. WvW isn’t about you.
Going on 14 days and still bugged on Stormbluff Isle.
I had 5 gold 60 silver last night. When I logged in this morning I had 68 silver???
I tried to buy 1 gold of gems last night on the TH but it failed every time.
I checked the TH pick up tab and it says I have 10 silver and no gems.
And, no I have not been hacked. And, no it is not on another one of my 3 characters.
This is a decision Anet made back in the the BWEs that is having repercussions since release.
1) They decided to reduce the number of servers before release thus increasing the server populations.
2) For WvW to be playable without bad lag and rubberbanding they can’t raise the WvW pop caps by much more than what it is now.
3) They make month achievements require 100 WvW kills. Do the math if the pop is around 39000 how long will it take all of them to get their monthly kills? Which has nothing to do with winning or losing in WvW.
To remedy the problem they would need to increase the number of servers to reduce the server pops. But, now the cat is out of the bag. Now it is just waiting to see if WvW dies to lack of interest and frustration or whatever Anet comes up with someway to force people to change servers to lower server pops. Either will end up being distasteful to a lot of players. But that’s where we are and it is what it is.
