Guild Wars 2 in 2017: Pros & Cons

Ayrilana, I looked into the OPs posting history and found that 19 days ago they posted about hanging on by a thread. I think we’re seeing the back and forth of a mind in conflict. Stay/Go kind of issue as thrashed out into the community to provoke discourse. kitten many Pros/Cons are subjective as all get out? I’ll add mine as one each to save time. (As I go a bit long on the con)

Pro: It’s Guild Wars 2
Con: To have everything is a huge timesink that can be off-putting to people without hours to spend on the game everyday. I’m a Guild Leader who spends 4+ hours a day doing content and another few hours connected to chat to make sure things are progressing for people. Not everyone has 4+hours to do a PvX run and that is the biggest detriment to the game. It actually has quite the selection of things to do, that can be worthwhile, and when people see that they have to pick/choose/budget it can be a problem.
Toss in Pride issues. Interpersonal communication Conflicts. And the like and it becomes a tsunami of sadness.
It’s a game that’s easy to love, but it can be really high maintenance.

Solution: Another Guild Hall Unlock.
And NPC “Lighting Director” which allows you to select from Day/Night/Dawn/Dusk
Done. More money out of our pockets and another thing to make the hall “Just So”

How to improve the guild decorations?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So, some thoughts on your thoughts Masuta

Point 1: It would be nice. But I believe they have done this once already and still point out not everyone is on a computer that can handle the Guild Hall without this restriction. They’re using caution. (From my understanding)

Point 2: Nothing quite like a Time Locked, and in many of the cases of the items you use as example, once per year ability to buy these things. Nothing quite like saving T6 snowflakes all year to buy snow at the holiday. Just makes us horde more.

Number 3: This appears to be a direct example of Point 6. I second this. It would be kind of neat if they could take something iconic from each dungeon, oh, they could even make it take a combine item that required dungeon tokens that was account bound to put more burden on the scribe! (See Gifts of Exploration for the Globe)

Point 4: They did this too, but they did not check everything. Or if they did they decided that it was fine. The downside to a lack of communication about the finer points is one can only assume that “Everything is Fine” no matter how much the grim reality hurts.

Point 5: I think this one is the problem with it being a player crafting profession. Instead of needing to make Tier specific items to act as the material/gold sink? They just used the prior item. It was probably a faster way to daisy chain a progression together than the alternatives. Do I understand from that perspective? Sure. Does taking 20 minutes to make a top end combine feel good? No.

Point 6: This. 100% Yes. The downside of course is if it is as hard to add space in the Guild Decoration Storage as it is to add to our personal material storage? Then I can understand the glacial speed of getting new things. Again, armchair assumptions based upon Technical Issues and not malice on the behalf of the Devs.

Would I like to see assets like the Kiel and Evon banners? Sure.
Dungeon specific assets? Just one per maybe? Just to say ‘hey, we did play this’
Mini-Pet leash in the hall where a given Mini can be “Imprinted” and wander in a chosen boxed off area? Certainly.
Racial statues that we could dress up with unlocked skins and classes? Would be a lark.

But then the grim reality comes crashing down. How many of us are actually doing Guild Hall Decorating? I walk through my Hall and I wonder who else does this. Who else enjoys this. Are we a minority?

I dunno. I love your suggestions though.

Not to mention the fashion implications the glassy blue shield has on other color and equipment choices.

Place this next to Showing/Hiding color of the Rarity of Weapons
The location of deposit collects
The muting of player chatter

Just one more QoL option to make things a bit more ‘just right’ for those who might want/need it.

If story tension is your worry, then isn’t the fact that your character is draped in plot armor the real issue here? Your character cannot die. End of story. You can’t Roll a 1 and have to start over. You can return to a checkpoint, respawn, redo the mission, but death? Not for you.

Also, she’s not always next to you. Case in point, in the Season Two episode where the takes off and nearly “gets herself injured/killed by the Inquest” But with that one? The story demands that she makes it through that episode so you can stand around, doing nothing, and she’s not going to get hurt. And in that one her golem gets trashed (Again) before things finish.

She is rarely seen outside of the team environment, so it’s not as if she’s out on her own – soloing the jungle.

Snaff and Sandy? Who’s Sandy? (If you mean his golem? I’m not exactly sure how much of the books you can say is actually in the game – thus resulting in the books being an odd reference point)

Also Snaff is the most bestest, heroic, kind, well liked, and all around final form of the Asura Race with how they talk about him. Thus it’s not surprising that he would have the bestest golem ever. That is one Asuran.

Also Efut of the Vigil is a ground pounding warrior asura who can’t speak jargon. So not every Asura is a Golem Building Inventor.

Child? One of the major plot threads in Taimi’s story is that she’s “Not A Child”
(If I can math the Wiki says she is 14 and we are not given a context clue as to how old that is in Asuran Culture)
Scarlet invasion? Giant Fighting Puppets? Expedition to the Unknown? She’s with you because she has nowhere else to be. She released herself from Rata Sum so she could stay with you.

And – Don’t Forget to Consider:

Are you injured? What happened to your legs?
I was born this way. My legs were never strong enough to carry me very far. Don’t pity me, though. I hate pity. And I don’t need it because I do just fine for myself.

I can see that. Can your legs be cured?
That remains to be seen. The degenerative effects of my condition may spread to other parts of my body as I get older, but for now it’s just the legs.

How far can you walk?
I can get in and out of Scruffy when I need to. For example, I can walk from my bedroom to the water closet. Just don’t ask me to be your partner in a dance marathon.

So either she lives now – or she doesn’t get to live later.
So she’s a good part of the team. She’s an orphan with nothing to lose but a life that has no promises of getting better. Phlunt is not her friend, Zojja isn’t exactly a mentor she connects with, so there’s only one place in the whole world to be. At your side. Plus Braham is at your side and those two get along. So at the end of the day, she’d rather be next to her friends in a world gone mad.
Just Saying.

Use the Scribe Station (Halloween pumpkins make great steps for that pit to get back out) then use the Workshop guy for Donations.

Stick a Guild member on Esa and then have them call out things over the Guild Chat so before you go, you know.

The NPC thing is a sad part of it, but it’s doable. Just adjust your tactics a little.

Guild portal woes

I had the Opposite feeling. I loved it. Link Waypoint in Chat – “I don’t have that” – Oh no, you do now. Not everyone wants to get all the Waypoints to Everything that a Guild might do on every character they might be playing or want to bring. This helps fill in some of that gap. The members can all use the Teleport to LA and the Solo Travel to the Destinations. It’s a Rank Lock on the Group side of it.

Move Guild into Hall – Swap Maps until it’s Stable – Make groups – Open Portal – Go have fun. And who knows, they might expand on what it can do past that.

As a tool for “Herding Cats” – it will always be amazing.

Just did a Trek (The Easy one cause PvE Rolled Missions that we all get)
1 Resonance Shard – 1 Rare – 20 Dragonite – 1 Commendation

Judging by the layout with the separate chest for each Challenge, you can get the separate reward for each one (1/week as usual) Can’t answer beyond that because my guild doesn’t know yet.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

NyhilistTheBoring.2674

Any way? Okay.

Original GW2 was $80 for the Digital Deluxe Preorder. I got what I wanted.
HoT Pre-Purchase? Laid down $100

Why? Because I wanted them Then and now With the stuff they came with. You’re not new to this song/dance/party but I’ll humor you.

Bought it then – have played over 10k hours. New person walks up and goes “This is new” and for them it is new. They’re at least 10K AP they cannot has behind the curve. They’re at a heavy disadvantage to getting into the game and really taking the wrapping paper off it. And you want to quibble about paying $60 3 years ago?

(Points at the Steam business model) This exists. Software gets older – prices go down. These new people missed sales, items, a shot at buying Bunny Ears (Full Ham time on Appeal to Emotion) Living Story S1, Living Story S2 when it was new and fresh and exciting!!! And now you want to be disgruntled at these brave souls looking for something new to do with their free time because the paywall of even Looking at the majesty of Tyria is gone?

TL;DR: I welcome the new Play for Frees and hope they stick with it, even if they don’t buy in ASAP, just so they can know the awesome game that so many “Vets” are taking for granted. :P

Well as you have admitted you haven’t done the event – let me elaborate on what the discussion is about.
Temple of Lyssa – Malchor’s Leap Map – has a fail mechanic where after the event has been done and over with for awhile the Risen come back and go “Gimme The Temple!” And if they get the Temple Back? You get to take it back from them again! Exciting? Sort of.
The “Floor Chest” from “Taking The Temple Back From the Risen” is where the All Seeing comes from. 124g on the TP.
So if you walk up and the Risen are in the middle of Taking the Temple Back – and you stop them – The Pact keeps the Temple and no one gets a shot in that time slot of taking it back.
The All Seeing is for an Achieve. Thus – the act of getting this item is intended.
The Risen will take the Temple back if there is no one around – so this can be seen as intended.
Taking the Temple back after that gets you the Priestess of Lyssa Fight – which is a Temple Event – which is intended.
The thing that turns sour is when you have a line of people waiting for the Risen to win. Because their inaction in the situation is what prompts the ability to fight the Temple again and win the loot.
So if we’re aware that the Temple is falling, are we mandated to protect it? Do we log out and wait? Do we leave the map? At what point does the disconnect not become obvious? We want the Risen to Win so we can do the event again.
But if this lone soul comes along and “Saves the Day”? Then no one else gets a chance to be the Winner. To be the Hero. You don’t have to do anything for the Temple to become a chance for loot and group play. Other than ‘something else’.
So the problem that we’re having is that it’s a fork in the road. It’s an option. You can deny the chance to play to the next round of people, if you choose.

Which is why I stated my appeal is to Change the Game because we cannot Change as People. Otherwise I would say something like Change the Game because the Mechanics have Changed and need to be Updated to match the current issues facing players. But that doesn’t roll off the tongue or have “Appeal to Emotion” in it.

But what do I know?

What’s impressive about the Lyssa event is how rough a post successful defense chatter can be.
Or the steps taken by players. I was assured by one of the players in a recent map I was in that he adds people to his block list with custom nickname “Defended Lyssa”
He explained to me that he explains to them the stakes involved. What they’ll end up doing by keeping the Temple open.
And when they defend it anyways he keeps them blocked because he doesn’t want them in any PuG he’s in. Because they show that they fail to listen or understand that anyone else matters.
And there are of course the people who will defend the idea that defending Lyssa is “Play your way”
Or the conversations where it turns into “Your are exploiting an event to get the outcome you desire and are violating the EULA if you just stand there and wait.”
Trolls, Counter-Trolls, and just obscene phone call level material later and it’s still the same problem.
A Mechanic exists that allows players to hate each other for playing the game. The All Seeing is an item needed for an achieve. Players have the power to cancel your attempt at getting something done. Defending the Temple is a trivial reward compared to the costs and fallout that comes after.
So I would like to second the concept of changing how this event resets itself back to taking the Temple because as it stands? It’s not working as anything that should be remotely intended.
So the appeal is: Change the Game because we cannot Change as People

I wanted to put together a really nice set of counter-statements to your Rant, and then I figured out it was just a Rant. The theory you put about the people who don’t have that much time to play? They’re there so you can add weight to your argument. “Think of the Casuals!”
But at the end of the post – with some critical thinking – it’s a rant. You want High Level Fractals (Is that 30+? 40+?) but you don’t give your level. If the Casuals in your post are in the same boat as you, as you put them there, do they have time for more than 1 Run a Night? So if they never did Fractals (So Level 1) they need to get to Level 29 – That’s 28 days. That’s a month. You’re lumping Ascended Crafting – AR – Fractals – and the Casuals together into a soup of “I need this changed to suit my poorly expressed needs!”
If in the end Crafting is the issue? It’s not that long at the station. If you follow a Guide (Which are better than ever) you can have 400/450/500 knocked out in nothing flat. Click – Combine – No Guess Work.
The material cost is already high enough
Iron out the nature of your problem – Look within for answers – and come back with a clearly expressed problem that the community might give you the insight to solve. Until then? Take a deep breath. Find your real problem. Strip away the hypothetical people which add “Appeal to Emotion” to your words.
And just say what’s really wrong.

The buffs stack. Click – Count 5 – Click – Cancel the transform – Count 5 – Click – Count 5. Just keep stacking them as you run places. As you hop – jump – and otherwise move around just keep clicking and counting while you get places. So 7 to 14 to 21 to 28 etc. Eat a stack of candy corn for hours of buffs!

What do you do In-game?

I enjoy the new YOLO (You Only Loot Once[per day per toon]) Circuit with the Guild. We log in as soon after Server Day begins as we can, party up into groups, and go World Event Hunting. We kibitz about the daily, hang in TS, and by the time we’ve killed the 7 World Chests on the main land? We’ve had a good time. I’ve been thinking of adding Temple of Zephyrs to the rotation so we can get one more chest.
Now if the timers are goofy long until the next chest? We’ll pop off a fast dungeon and then surface just in time to rock and roll for some more loot. So on a good night between 5-9ish server time we’ll knock out 6-7 World Events, a dungeon, the daily for everyone involved, and had a pretty good time hanging out. Then the guildies who have to work go to bed and tell us “See ya tomorow!”
Then the rest of my time is spent assisting people, Taxi Service for JPs, doing the YOLO on my other 80, stepping into WvW to run with the zergs (Wheee), and sitting in LA talking with the Map Chat. I actually enjoy LA Map Chat but I’m just that kind of person.
And when all that fails I take a moment out to chat with a random member on the Roster so I can touch base with how things are going in our Alliance. All in all? A pretty involved day in Tyria.

[In response to Ellda because I don’t know how to quote on this crazy thing]
It’s both to buy time and to heal. I run 1167 Healing Power before the downscale so it works out alright to dodge a bit and mix in some hp gain.

[To second the notion put forth by Kanako Davis]
The staff is an excellent weapon to have in your back pocket for making things mad. Nice spread and alright attack speed. And it has the 5 which is a great Traffic Jam ability when needing to manage a horde.

AC Path1 Burrows Question - Guardian

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: NyhilistTheBoring.2674

NyhilistTheBoring.2674

I’m a Guardian, and I protect Hodgins, so allow me to share.
I stand on the East end of the table and wait for the Gravelings. The rest of the group heads West and starts in on the burrows. I stand there and wait for it. For Utils I use Stand Your Ground, Hold The Line, and Signet of Judgment. Once the Gravelings start to pile up on me I hit Hold the Line, if I see a knockback one it’s time for Stand your ground, and if health gets dodgy I hit a dodge roll left then right (I use +30% endurance food) and get back in my spot.
Prebuff with Empower, switch to Mace/Torch, give em heck, then back to staff for another Empower for the heal. By the time I run out of CDs the group has swooped in and we mop up the last of the mess.
The key is a 4 man team that can focus on burning those burrows ASAP while you hold your ground on the table. Hodgy can’t die if the Gravelings never reach him.
