No my argument is that its silly and irrational to think that this idea is plausible and or needed in any way. Why would we need yet another skill slot to further our class or make it better?

My counter argument is that instead of doing this, and adding yet another button or skill slot for us to use, is to instead get the class to run as it is supposed to, make the current pet worthwhile, and to fix the class from the current skills and opportunities we have.

I understand that adding this wouldn’t affect the current class fixes, but it adds yet another thing on the plate of the ranger that is unneeded. And is only considered so because the class is currently messed up as is. So your idea that my complaints are not valid are so far fetched as to be as funny as this ridiculously stupid idea.

You misunderstand, The idea is a proposal. But regardless I am giving my own, I am saying there is no need for us to have yet another skill slot, instead fix the slots and skills we have, our current objective shouldn’t be to add more room for failure to our class but to instead fix the class from within and fix the mechanics that are currently not at optimal standards.

Adding another skill slot does nothing but give us more work an tries to cover up the underlying issue of the class not working at the standards of other classes.

I am saying you are adding a slot in the aspect that f3 becomes a utility or buff from the passive pet. One that was not already in existence. Which again is not really needed, whats needed are pets reworked to where they actually stay alive long enough for us to use them properly.

While you are right about necros more clutter on the screen means more lag for people in WvW in zergs. (No I have a decent computer so it wouldn’t affect me, but it would to a lot of others who are no so fortunate).. What you are wanting could very well be achieved with an added food buff that’s just for rangers or a added buff on the one pet we do get, that even while the pet is disabled is still active.

Having two pets out at the same time, while being more realistic is just silly. Especially in terms of whats really needed is the original pets reworked to do the damage its supposedly supposed to do while staying alive long enough to do so.

In a WvW zerg you want a pet that can do CC. Wolf is nice for the fear, when encountering the enemy pop that when your running through them and your able to interrupt and help your team.

Might have one wolf and one spider, one for AOE CC and the other for single target ranged CC. So if you are fighting someone on a wall, and your not using entangle, or its on CD then pop your spider’s f2. Root them and fire away, vs your in a ground fight, get your Wolf out, and while driving through pop your fear CC and watch 5 of them scatter.

What I run, and its probably not the best but I use Wolf for fear in zerg fights, and bird for bleed damage in single target fights. The added DPS and bleed affect can help in a fight. But its not really ment for zerg use, just what I have with me while I am on a WvW map.

Yes, what I’m suggesting is to boost ROF by ~50% and adjust the damage for a good visual of sustaining it. But in equal to the other classes. Then QZ would have a real burst impact, even better with shortened cast of Rapid Fire which isn’t that rapid now at all.

At second, I feel it a problem. We have to keep at the back of the zerg, and they usually kill downeds within seconds, so it isn’t that easy to hit them at least once compared to any melee who is in the middle of action. Not horrible now but would be nice, maybe as some kind of boost of Opening Strike.

If I were in AN HQ as a dev, would try to overhaul Rangers anyway.
(Professional animations, ~Initiative, hunter conditions, logical skill bonuses without making us OP, new armor and weapon sets, etc)

Yes, this would help a decent amount, but would definitely like to see pets be able to withstand zerg AOE, maybe a 150%-170% spike in AOE damage reduction. Seems like a lot but its very much needed in zerg situations. These changes would help a decent amount but not fix the underlying problem of still not having the damage needed to be competitive with other classes in DPS builds. However being able to get the damage from our pets that’s supposedly 10-30% of our overall damage would help a decent amount, as it stands they are kittens comparatively in a WvW fight that involves more then 3 people.

Also I am at the very least looking forward to faster f2 times.

Still won’t help the fact that we are severely underpowered for zerg fights, and that most teams reject having a Ranger in a GvG fight.

Someone post a video of a rangers pet actually doing 30% of the rangers damage in a zerg fight. Please do that, because most pets don’t last longer then 20seconds in a all out zerg WvW fight, I do not want a roaming character. And you are right we have excellent CC, and that goes well with a zerg fight, but I don’t want my character to only be viable in one situation, DPS is an important factor, and with our pets not doing the required damage they should, we become the equivalent of a kitten.

I shouldn’t have to play a melee based ranger to be viable, regardless of the way you want to determine what the RANGE in ranger means, bows are clearly our bread and butter, and should get more support.

Kal Spiro, you are missing the entire point of my post. Yes all who are crit based are going to feel it, tell me though, whats a viable alternative to playing a RANGED ranger in WvW in zerg fights? One that has enough damage capabilities to keep up with other characters? I am choosing the play the class as it is CALLED ITS CALLED A kitten RANGER. My anger is based off of the fact that when we finally were able to begin to keep up with other classes in PvP/WvW situations, we are now being nerfed again. Yes its across the entire board, but other classes have better options to deal with this kind of damage nerf, we as rangers do not, for those who actually want to play the ranger as a RANGED character. And not be a condi bunker build.

First of all, I am not a bear bow, and if you play that way especially in a zerg your worthless. This is a discussion on PvP/WvW viability and them screwing with our builds to stay ranged. I am a commander in IoJ, as well as in a reputable WvW guild, and I provide decent dmg output and CC for my team. But with the changes coming to the ranger and my dmg output being lowered by 10% when another class who doesn’t rely on crit dmg isn’t going to have there damage lowered makes us a weaker class. Its only across the board to those who rely on crit dmg to keep up. Precision and crit dmg is our bread and butter to staying viable on the dmg scale for classes. An extra sigil that melee classes have had since release is not going to change that for us. Show me a viable damage based build built around only power and no precision or crit damage for the ranger, with enough survivability to last in a zerg bust. You can’t. Now show me viable power based builds for the warrior, ele, guardian, ect. I understand perfectly what is going on, and across the board or no, its the rangers that are going to feel this 10% hit the most.

No, but what I am saying is that this is going to kill the bow ranger, bow rangers precision and crit dmg are our only viable options, sure if you want throw some survivability in there until you learn situational positioning, and how to survive. But for a ranger that’s really your best option. Take that out by reducing the amount of damage we can do and now we are 100% useless in zerg fights. Our pets don’t last through the AOE fields in zerg fights as is, and that’s supposedly 20% of our dmg? Now take 10% off a damage build and we just lost everything that makes us viable, while still being ranged, yes we can switch to other builds, but not bow based and still be viable, across the board or no this change hits us harder then them. I can throw at least 4 different zerg damage builds for each and every other class. We had ONE viable option and its being nerfed. That’s where my anger originates, I don’t want to be anything but RANGED on a kitten RANGER.

Keep in mind I am not just talking about a full zerker build, I am talking about all RANGED bow builds. Everything that we do that required Precision and crit dmg to do decently. To have the same amount of dmg output everyone else had. And to be viable in these situations, all of our builds were just shafted.

Most people don’t even think Rangers are viable in WvW or GvG as is. In fact its a rarity to see a decently played Ranger, yet I can command on my Ranger, as well as contribute quite a bit to a GvG team and a WvW zerg, I do so often, and had a lot of minds in my guild changed. But this new patch.

This patch is an insult and a slap in the face to most viable ranger builds. We are already a kitten class, and it takes a lot of work to become viable, but go ahead a-net screw us over yet again. 10% loss for zerker builds? Screw you. Do you know how long it took me to learn survivability playing that way? Exact positioning in a zerg in order to be the most effective and still have a dmg output that keeps up with everyone else while not dying 80% of the time?

This also means for my zerg busting build I am going to have to rework… Superior runes of divinity are now going to be kitten.

Thanks for making my hard work and class absolutely useless. Are you ever going to get around to making the Ranger class viable without screwing us over?

Precision is our bread and butter if you want to play ranged. Crit damage is next to that, and what do you go and do? REWORK THE kittenING THING. 10% decrease is no small thing, especially to a class that has to work hard at keeping up with the rest of them. Now, an ele or necro can do my job and be better at it, as it stood I was just keeping par with them.

On top of that, if evenly organized, the larger numbers will still win. I’d wish there was a way for an outnumbered server to defend theirselves, and perhaps even go on the attack, fighting against odds and winning because of better tactics. Numbers shouldn’t be the deciding factor, but tactics and strategy should.

Another solution against overly dominating servers could be the meddling of skritt and harathi. Because if the increased presence they feal threatened and join the offensive. Whenever a server controls the largest parts of all maps (over 60% or so) the harathi and skritt will launch an offensive. They will attack the controlled structures causing damage on the walls, gates and perhaps also draining the supply. Perhaps they whould even be able to cap structures, not only denying the dominating server points, but even retracting points from them. Then when an not dominating server runs along, they can just waltz in and cap the circle. The mobs will stay to help defending, unless the other non-dominating server attacks. Then they will remain passive as they don’t care.

Meanwhile in the other borderlands, the mobs could also launch offensives against the owned keeps by the dominating server, damaging their keeps, making it easier to attack for the losing servers.

I love this idea here. I’m a commander in IoJ. Because of server transfers before the season started we are in silver league when clearly we need to be in bronze. I full heartedly agree with stopping transfers entirely for large periods of time to the Highly Populated servers and making it free to transfer out of them, I even heard the idea for incentives to transfer out of them. Let me explain. The high population WvW servers have huge que times.. spreading those populations out again to the lower tiers would reduce que times while also making more servers more competitive. you can only really spread them out by doing nothing except leaving transfers to lower population servers free. for the PVE content they have guesting, MOST and remember I say most not all high population WvW servers have huge presences in PVE as well. Why add to that presence anyway instead of sharing whats ment to be a community game among even the lowest server. Stopping transfers to high population servers and adding incentives to populate the lower tiers helps both PVE and WvW. If someone is trying to transfer to play with a friend, let that friend transfer down. Some players will be mad about this but who are those? the small percent that want more people in high populations?

Changing the outnumbered buff to make a server more competitive while being outmanned is a great idea. Not a huge buff but enough, currently the bloodlust system works against the servers with lower player numbers, I like the system but again its all about which server has more numbers on, make it so that even if a server has more numbers on they still have to fight and work together, stay coordinated to win, don’t make the other servers just able to steam roll them, we don’t want players leaving, but we need to make it easier to defend what we have and still attack hard. The idea above that I quoted is an awesome suggestion, Obviously it needs some stuff worked out of it, but its a ground point.

Coming at this from multiple angles simultaneously is the only way to get a working solution, one at a time does nothing, and as someone else stated, fixing a complex problem that always has downsides will hurt some members of the community, Of course it will, but its the long run not what happens in the short run that matters to all of us. If most of us are still here afterwords then job well done, we lost some players that didn’t help us much anyway.

I’m passionate about this issue because of what happened to IoJ, right before the season an exodus happened. Three large WvW guilds left to larger servers. A large number of our player base. Now we are left trying desperately to defend against higher population servers. Que times? Those only happen on reset nights and very rarely in the week. Spread the population, make the lower populations have more fight, and stop allowing large populations to become larger. just my opinion

This is not just me, everyone on IoJ is experiencing this. When in Borlis Pass Borderlands the LAG is outstanding, This is not normal client side lag, or zerg vs zerg lag, this is skill lag and walking around alone and being kicked out of the game lag. Yet they are still able to attack and hit us, while ALL of us cannot do a thing. Again This is not just an isolated incident. It is happening to All of us in IoJ

We cannot go into there BL without being kicked from the server. FIX THIS please.

Ascended crafting material

Would be nice for the bank to hold stacks on ascended crafting material higher then 250. I am not yet in a position where I can use them yet, but for now when I do different runs I end up getting so many that I’m just taking up space in my bank with them. I cannot sell or trade them, and they seem valuable enough to keep large amounts of. So to compensate please increase the stack amount for the bank on these. Thank – Oddoad

Hell does anyone remember the Cyber amateur league anymore? CAL:O CAL:M and CAL:I?

I loved that, I loved playing with a team that had a sponser and was playing against other competitive teams, I loved the rankings, and the match days, the feeling you got when you won, and even the feeling when you lost and you held extra practice that week. Getting on almost every night and wiping the floor with pug groups. That was a lot of fun, but that league died, as well as the game I played with it, afterwords I went into GvG and had a blast doing almost the same thing, and was looking forward to it in GW2 but im left with this bland, fight for points, free tournys, and no real ranking system in place.

When do we get real tournaments, or to get to make our own? When will you fix mist lobbys to where there are actually people who talk? I want real tournaments, with rankings that matter, how else will we show off our prowess? I want to be able to actually find a pickup group, or a SPvP focused guild I can join and compete competitivly with.

Hell, make it so we can at least make leagues to play in. As well as spectator modes so people can watch these league matchups. So we can make our own tournaments.

This needs to be an E-sport and should have had these features when it was released, you as a team are better at making PvP games and know all these things are important to being able to play on a competitive sport level. And yet you released it without it. I’m dissapointed in you. I expected better from some of the minds that brought us GvG battles from before. Where it was fun and challenging, and when you won and got a better ranking for people to see you felt a sense of acomplishment in you and your team, that you were the best in that match, and you deserved to win.

Take a good long hard look at your game and tell me if those aspects are there. Then tell me why they are not, why did you not put the effort in to do just that before release? PvP is basically your endgame with no raids or better equipment to get after you get your exotic and legendary. But instead you placed it all in WvW, which is not a competitive esport, plus, when your server is losing in WvW they basically give up anyway and the last few days of the match turn into karma farming.

Spvp was your chance and these features are not there at the moment, its super frustrating right now trying to find a pickup group for tournys, and its even more frustrating trying to find a guild of people that want to play at the competitive level in a game that is only half heartedly setup for it.

By adding in new personal story content that allows us to get to know Trahearne, and ideally that also gives some in-game reason for the absence of our friends in all of this (maybe they are off on some other highly important support mission that enables Trahearne and us to do what we do together), we could at least feel like the story is still a little more our own, and we could feel like we have reason to follow Trahearne around.
Basically, we need a reason why we are so vested in Trahearne’s success, something above and beyond the mere fact that the content writers wanted it to be that way. We need some plot reason why Trahearne is the one who must wield Caladbolg (as opposed to anyone else), and for Sylvari characters, a solid reason why the Pale Tree gave it to him instead of us. We need some reason why Trahearne is the chosen one who must defeat Zhaitan, and some reason why he alone can accomplish it.
I’m ok with playing second fiddle to a lore NPC, IF there is reason why it must be so. But the way the personal story plot line goes right now, the character that becomes the “main” hero of the story is entirely superfluous and expendable. Remove Trahearne entirely from the story and you get a story that is virtually unchanged. Replace him with any other character, and the story would see no great difference. That, I think, is the fundamental problem with him.
The problem with Trahearne is that there isn’t a good story to distract us from the flaws in the dialog and voice acting. The story itself is disconnected. There is no flow for players, no immersion, no engagement, no emotional investment. There is just no reason for us to care about the new hero that is foisted upon us. And the result is that many of us secretly (and sometimes not so secretly) harbor ambitions to assassinate the guy after the dragon is defeated
Essentially, we need some better reason (especially for non-Sylvari characters) to be invested in Trahearne’s success. And I think that Oddoad’s suggestion of new intermediate personal story content, where we get to know Trahearne and have reason to follow him, is a great way to accomplish that.

This^. Nuff said. Got my point accuratly and wrote it into beautiful flowing goodness I do not have the tallent for. Do this and the games story will be saved. I love the storylines in games. ME series, DA, FFVII, and countless countless others have made me whoop for joy at the historic endings that have the power to bring tears to your eyes and weep with frustration, horror, anguish, and best, Happiness, pure joy at the most amazing ending you can think of to such a long journey. Where it feels like you just spent your life watching the best 50 hour movie of your life instead of playing a repetitive game that is really just a honest time waster to escape your misserable paying job, your small dumpy kitten apartment, and your girlfriend complaining at you to do something with her.

Thats why when I finished my movie I was left dissapointed, there was nothing epic about it, the dragon dies slowly while being pummelled with cannons. (like that was hard) The story leading up to it is hijacked by a character you have no reason to love or respect, though the entire time you are just hoping for a reason to make this man your king, your leader, a man you would follow to the edge of the earth for at the drop of a hat, and then asked if it was his pleasure for you to jump, and if he said yes, you would. No hesitation.

But this wasnt a movie, it wasnt a epic tale of loss and love, of friendships forged in battle or a king you respected enough to die for. Not even a tale of just grizzly war, and the tragedy that it causes, the reality versus the fiction, where war is not glorius, not pretty. (and yes, thats me saying that particular story step im referring to was awfully written) No. This wasnt a tale of any of those things. It wasnt even “My story”. It was just another escapist activity poorly written to look like a bad amateur roleplay forum.
I do love your game btw Anet. Just wish you had spent more time on these things.

Rather then uprooting him, and changing the personal storyline dramatically, add another part where we learn a lot more about him, we make him our friend and confidant and him us, and allow us to like him a lot more then people obviously do. Make him personable and a leader that was truely thrust into the position and does an outstanding job with it.. don’t just add a character we barely know to be the leader of the free races, without a background and have us blindly follow the guy through thick or thin.. make us love him, make us respect him. Thats what should be done, that way when we see him take up the mantle of responsibility we see exactly the internal choices he makes and respect him all the more for making it and being thrust into it.

Inviting people into your personal story.

It was not letting my friend join the instance with me. We were grouped, in the same map and server (not overflow) and standing right next to each other when I entered the instance and she never got the invite. Tried it three times, disbanded the group, rejoined. Restarted the game. Nothing worked to allow her to enter the personal storyline quest with me. Please fix, this seems to be happining to other people as well, look into it if you could.

It was my instance “Close the Eye” level 73 in straits of devestation.

I’m a slyvari ranger and she is a charr ranger.
