Wow, that’s really unfortunate. That’s right though; I never started it during Wintersday. I don’t see the point in saying you can have this from one holiday event (referring to the candy corn node) and not a different node from another holiday for the home instance. Isn’t Anet wanting us to develop our home instance? I honestly don’t mind spending the laurels and gold if that’s what it takes, but this should for sure be something that is still able to be acquired.
It could be possible to have it as filler content before HoT, but I’m not going to hold my breath for that. It’s rare that anyone would bring holiday storyline back to the game if that holiday has passed. Maybe we could have “Christmas in July?”
Just an FYI, I submitted a support ticket. If anything comes from this submission I’ll let you all know.
I created a new character since the beginning of the Wintersday event. It’s a Sylvari Necromancer. The interesting thing: I only received one Letter from Orphan Laine on my entire account.
Yeah, my buddy was able to continue it. I’ll see what I can do about contacting support. Anybody know if there’s a way around it in the meantime?
So, I don’t know about anybody else, but I’m a huge proponent of decking out my home instance. That being said, I had the unfortunate incident of removing my only ability to complete Orphan Laine’s challenge which would allow me to acquire the Gift of Magnanimity along with the Star of Gratitude from completing the For the Children collection. The unfortunate incident is that I destroyed Orphan Laine’s Letter before activating the Grawnk Munch storyline chain. From what I had heard, it was just reiterating what I had already read in the mail, so I just removed it from my mail because I didn’t want to see it there anymore. Now, looking back, I feel quite foolish. Most home instance objects that come from in-game content tend to be available from the Laurel Merchant, but this seems to be the only item that does not.
Does ANYBODY know a way around this where I can get it into my home instance? Devs, is there any way to acquire just the Orphan Laine’s Letter from the Laurel Merchant? I would love to get some feedback because messaging you on Twitter doesn’t seem to have an effect (which makes sense based on the amount of messages you must receive a day).
PS: It makes it even worse that EVERY single time I do a Jumping Puzzle, I am constantly mocked by the game by receiving a Mysterious Grubby Package...
Greetings! So, in search to find a way to really implement the API for mobile and web application use, I was hoping to create a forum here to talk specifically about where one might be able to learn how to use it. Of course, there is the Guild Wars 2 Wiki where you can view the documentation, and there is also Codecademy which is a fantastic place to learn the basics of many different types of code.
What I would like to do here is create a community based resource for novices and veterans can know where to start and get more specific information. Of course, there is YouTube and all that rubbish, but I want to find extremely helpful places to not just lecture but empower the learner to make his/her own iOS/Android/Web app. Now, if the YouTube video is really quite informative about a particular topic, please do feel to share. Even websites that help others to understand wrappers libraries and how to implement them would be helpful as well.
Things are always changing in this game, and I think it’s important for us to collaborate in order to take advantage of the tools we already have rather than waiting for the ‘Extended Experience’ app to get here.
Please, if you’re interested in participating, post a list of related sites to this thread as I’m about to do:
- Guild Wars 2 Wiki: API (API Documentation)
- Codecademy (Learn the different coding languages)
Has anyone actually worked on this? I’m not a programmer or someone who understands a majority of code (I’ve gone and learned a bit from Codecademy about 35% through JavaScript and attempted the first section of the YouTube API), but I was able to modify someone else’s gw2spidy script for my google sheet in order to generate the information I wanted. Is this going to work in the same way where it can work with google sheets, and if so, can I just substitute information (such as the website it pulls from) in order to make my current spreadsheet work?
Also, would someone tell me where I can get a list of which Item IDs correlate to which Items? I just want to quickly look up an Item and see it’s Item ID in order to plug that information into my spreadsheet when it becomes available for use.
Having the same exact problem as everyone else. Just made a new Elementalist aswell so not having TP is a PAIN. Hope for a fix soon!
I would LOVE to make a new character, but for some reason I can’t seem to buy a new character slot at the limited time discount…
1. Create a native client [echo effect]. I know everyone is trying to tell you this, so that should tell you the level of importance it has to us. The thing is that you could use OpenCL and make the client work without using something like cider. Isn’t that what WoW does? I mean, that would solve so many of the compatibility issues. The only thing I see going wrong here is that you would likely have to build the game engine from scratch which would take away from years of work, but you should really do the cost/profit analysis to see if that’s a doable thing! With this, there would be hardly any bugs because you wouldn’t have to try to make it work for both platforms in such a way that it only feels like the gaming community only cares about the PC side of the tracks.
2. Rather than only releasing an API for making mobile and web apps, follow through with creating the “Extended Experience App” we heard so much about and made so many of us so friggin’ excited! Following through on this not only makes the company look better for keeping their word but it also would help when there are crashes with the Black Lion Trading Company. Also, it has the potential to release to the public some designs (like character creation) that we couldn’t otherwise get our hands on which would have a similar effect to what many of us will be doing with the wardrobe system.
3. Have more/better discounts within the BLTC or allow retail stores to sell the Gem Cards at a discount. I know that ANet needs money to keep things going, and I know that after people buy the game they want to buy some in game content. So let us both win! I mean, I have a GameStop card sitting in my wallet waiting on them to either sell the Gem Cards or come out with something brilliant (which let’s be honest… who knows when that will be). I appreciate what you’re doing with the occasional free buffs, but you asked for feedback so here you go.
4. Allow some of the common gestures or features to be allowed like using two fingers to scroll within your inventory or when you press F12 to log out being able to press “C” and change characters. I know that’s such a tiny thing to improve, but what is really the harm in updating something so small/insignificant? We were able to do it in the original Guild Wars.
5. Don’t get bogged down or stressed out because “haters gonna hate” and “trolls gonna troll”. You guys have made a fantastic game that looks and feels absolutely beautiful. You know that and we know that. That’s why we bought the game! We wouldn’t have done so if we knew it would be like WoW. Not saying that WoW is a bad game because I’ve never actually played it, but GW2’s graphics far surpass what I’ve seen of WoW. The only thing is that the Mac “Beta” community feels like it has been put on the back burner because everything has to be filtered by cider and doesn’t fully take advantage of the hardware (and OS X Mavericks’ ability to App Nap) that our machines have.

Hey guys,
Just a quick update on where the whole scavenger hunt system stands since I know that’s a topic many of you have brought up recently. We’re not currently actively working on building any sort of legendary precursor scavenger hunt, this is something we want to do in the future and we’re in the midst of designing how this would function, but no one is actively building this feature and you should not expect in the Jan/Feb/March releases at this point.
We are however working on expanding reward systems to make them more re-rewarding across all parts of the game, making the open world more rewarding, and adding new ways you can earn precursors as rewards via new reward systems taking advantage of our open persistent world.
Some of these additions will come as early as the January release, and will get covered in more detail in the next week or two as well release all the details about this release once testing has signed off it’s all ready to go in January. (we’ll also provide a high level summary of our goals with reward systems, etc. in our 2013 blog post, which should be out next week)
It is now April……………………………………………………………………………. Please?
And now it’s March 2014… I’m patient as ever because there is so much to do in Guild Wars 2 as it is, but I really enjoyed things like finding the Black Moa Chick (or just the Black Moa), and I am super excited to see something like this in game. On the other hand, does it really take over a year to implement something so seemingly simple?
It’s a matter of moving the 42" TV anytime I would want to play with an additional display. My wife and I are on a tight budget, and I don’t have the luxury of spending money on another display (also, when the wife doesn’t see it as a priority, it’s not a priority).
Just trying to work with what I already have without too much of a hassle.
Does anyone know what’s going on with the TP on the Mac Beta? I’ve noticed that I never have issues trying to buy/sell items on a PC, but when I’m running the game on the Mac, it seems to constantly keep loading and loading. I have to quit and restart the game and pray to Dwayna that it makes the TP work.
Does anyone have any suggestions or tips/tricks?
Yeah, I did try to extend to my Apple TV in windowed mode, but I didn’t like that it drastically decreases the resolution of my screen. Looks like this is something that will hopefully get supported in later updates.
I have a MacBook Pro and an Apple TV. I’d like to use the Apple TV to show the wiki and guides, but it just shows a black screen (I’m not mirroring). Any suggestions?
By the way, I like to use the Mac because I like the way the trackpad works rather than using a mouse. Plus, it has a really good display, so please only constructive info.
Hey ArenaNet,
I would like to make the suggestion of having an easier way of changing characters. I remember it was very convenient to be able to press F12 and then the C key to quickly change between the characters I wanted to, and I would like to have this ability again. I know it’s nothing major and it’s a product of convenience, but I would truly appreciate this especially since it is so minor.
Thank you for listening.
That was the issue! Thanks so much!
When I send a mail to a particular person (Sovatski.5604), he doesn’t receive it on his end. Everyone else gets my mail.
Some of these things I know Anet is already working on but there are a couple things I would like to point out that I would like to see change:
- I would like to be able to press F12 and then C/L in order to quickly change character or log out.
- It would be nice to have a more convenient way to look for a group whether it is on the same world or not (which I know Anet is working on).
- I would like to see how long I’ve been playing by pressing /age.
- Being able to see how long it has been since guild members have represented in order to see whether to promote/demote that individual
- It’s a little bothersome to put nicknames in my “Friends List” and they go away after about a week or so.
Anet, you’re doing a great job! I work for a company that encourages feedback for the sake of increasing the standard and the quality of the product. Keep doing what you do, and I hope to see this stuff applied sometime soon (especially since some of these things are easy fixes… I hope).
I have done my best to stay up-to-date with the Extended Experience app. Colin Johanson posted in a previous post:
This project was delayed in favor of having the specific folks required to build it skill-set wise working on solidifying the core of the game. You’ll hear more about our ecosystem in the future, but we’re not actively working on this project, in favor of making sure the core game itself is as fun and rewarding as possible.
Edited to add: We’ll discuss what sort of projects we’re doing instead in more detail in the blog post later this week, and even in more detail as the Jan/Feb/March releases get closer.
I know that Anet has had a few issues with getting the proper team working on this. I believe I remember hearing somewhere that the lead developer of this app was let go for some reason. Not too sure on that one. I have been looking forward to this since 2010 and still look forward to it.
Anet is working extremely hard on this and it makes me happy that they want to make the best quality product before it goes on the market and hits the fan. There are a lot of haters out there trying to whine about how this game should have had all the kinks worked out before it was released, but I’m so happy they let it out finally. We found out they were developing the game for years before they finally started showing the official developments. Unfortunately, they had to put the game out to let thousands, if not millions, of players find all the kinks so they could iron them out.
Fortunately, they are looking for new employees to help with the development of mobile apps. This means that there is definitely progress! It would be nice to have a companion app to do all of your stuff on the side. I think we’ll just have to see what happens.
