They shatter on the target they were originally spawned to.
The only real utilities you use in pvp/pve/wvw in almost any spec are Blink, Decoy, Mirror Images , Feedback, Portal, Null Field, Ether Feast/Mantra of Recovery (Rarely).
In terms of Elites; Mass Invis and Time Warp are about the only good ones. Sometimes you use Moa for tPvP against bunkers, but that’s about it.
Mass Invis for levelling if you aren’t too confident to take on multiple mobs, Time Warp otherwise.
Those are the whole sets as they are. Having said that, most of the “better” looks come from mix and matching.
“I knew where the real mesmer was the entire fight”
1. Portal is basically the main thing Mesmer brings. You’re rather limited to GS/manta heavily ranged-based specs, but most classes stick to range when possible in large fights anyway. Mesmer’s shine when in voice comms and can time portal chains from supply camps to towers. Null Field is brilliant and Time Warp also has it’s moments.
2. You’ll hate it for the first ~40 levels. Mesmer’s are also fairly bad at orr farming (compared to almost any other class) and won’t get nearly as much karma/tags etc.
3. Any class can be good. Time Warp, Illusion of Life and Mass Invis./Veil (for Arah) are party-changers.
4. They sync well together.
5. You’ll want to have basically one of every weapon on you at all times. Torch 4 for blasting, Focus for speed/wall pull, Pistol for most pvp combat.
I’ve got an 80 Guardian, Thief, Ele and Mesmer and hardly put any time into the others anymore.

Sorry about that accidental deletion — I’ve done it myself. We do not have the ability to spawn items as replacements and the ability to restore (roll-back) an account is not intended for these purposes.

I believe Mesmer has a ‘vacuum’ spell that can be targeted on the edge of a keep wall to suck anyone within 5 yards down to the ground. It’s not directly pulling you down as much as it’s just pulling you toward the AOE location, which happens to cause you to overshoot and fly off the wall.
Yeah It’s the Focus 4th ability called “Into the Void”
